tarte cosmetics holiday: away oui go portable palette and collector’s set

Many lines come out with holiday sets, but I think I look forward to tarte’s more than any other.  I have beautiful sets from years ago that I still use…they definitely stand the test of time.  Tarte recently sent us the away oui go portable palette and collector’s set ($48, a $410 value) and it does not disappoint!

tarte away oui go

Away oui go is a limited edition set that is an Ulta exclusive.  It’s one of the sets available in the new Sweet Dreams Holiday Collection.  It includes:

  • four removable eye and cheek palettes with a total of 16 full-sized Amazonian Clay eye shadows and four full-sized Amazonian Clay 12-Hour blushes
  • three deluxe sized Maracuja lip glosses
  • a deluxe lights, camera, lashes mascara
  • teal fabric stitched with pearls collector’s compact that holds the removable palettes

The lights, camera, lashes mascara is a staple for me.  It gives great volume and length and doesn’t smudge.  I love it.  The lip glosses come in three shades:  Nice, a creme mauve; Cannes, a shimmery pink; and Paris, a creme raspberry.

They are typical tarte lip glosses that are just slightly sticky and nicely glossy, although the applicator is different.  The brush is beyond stiff – it’s frozen.  I’ve had other lip glosses with a brush that started off that way, but if you bent it the bristles released.  These don’t.  It’s interesting, and I am not sure if I am a fan or not.

I adore the compact.  It’s very vintage looking and the palettes fit in it just perfectly.  It also has a nice mirror inside, so this really is a great item for travel.  I am actually storing the box the set comes in and leaving the palette on my vanity, switching the palettes out every few days.

The eyeshadows are all beautiful, with a great selection of shades and variety of finishes in each palette.  I think my favorite palette is the one with the intrigue blush.  I have always adored tarte blushes, so four eyeshadows and a full-sized blush makes my knees weak.

Makeup Wars shares holiday eye looks

makeup-wars.jpg~originalThe parties continue for Christmas, year end and New Year’s Eve so Makeup Wars has decided to show you some holiday eye looks.

One of my very favorite holiday palettes this year is the Tarte Gorgeous Getaways Set*.The colors in it are perfect for day and can be jazzed up for night. My holidays are pretty low key so the beautiful shimmers probably won’t be worn but this is what I wore for my first holiday eye this year and will surely wear again.

eye wearing the top left palette in Tarte Gorgeous Getaways

eye wearing the top left palette in Tarte Gorgeous Getaways

I used the top right palette that contains Santorini Bikini: peach satin.  Great Sphynx: milk chocolate with light shimmer.  Belgian Chocolate: this is a darker chocolate with a purple undertone.  Pacific Sunset: a coppery gold with some shimmer.  Spontaneous blush: a pinky peach satin.

I like dramatic eyes so I apply these heavily to get the most pigmentation out of the shades as possible. To do this eye I started with Pacific Sunset (coppery gold) applied lightly on the lid. On the inner and into the crease I used Santorini Bikini (peach). On the outer crease I started with Great Sphynx (milk chocolate) but then blended Belgian Chocolate into that so that it would be more dramatic. On my browbone I used Serengeti Sand which is a light beige in another one of the individual palettes in the set. I also wore the Spontaneous Blush from this set. I felt comfortable yet special in it.

This set was an exclusive at Ulta; it’s my favorite kit out of all the ones I’ve tried from Tarte. If you have a local Ulta you should see if they have this still in stock since you’ll get a winter’s worth of wear out of this (and more).

Here are some other choices I’d pick for New Year’s Eve.

1) Urban Decay Smoked Eyeshadow Palette – I bought this last year at Sephora and it’s my go to when I want a smokey eye. The variety of shades in this palette are perfect for night. Even though I have Mushroom in other palettes, it’s such a great basic color. (picture from beauty.com)

2) Marc Jacobs Beauty in The Starlet is probably the palette I’ve been most excited about this year. This is a simple eye with it but it’s so easy to combine the colors in this palette to make some standout shades.

3. Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperliners* are perfect holiday eyeliners if you like a touch of glitter or metallics. I have two of them and they wear beautifully. They give your eye just enough sparkle to light them up. They are also waterproof so they’ll last through the night.  Spark of Envy is a metallic peacock-green while Locket Book is a medium brown infused with gold glitter.

Getting Glam with Pixi Beauty for the holidays

When Top Ten Tuesday decided to use the theme of Stocking Stuffers the first products that came to my mind were Pixi Beauty’s new holiday sets. Icy Lip Luster in Snowbunny Glace and Icy Eye Palette in Buff Blizzard are the epitome of what I’d want in a stocking or would want to put in a stocking for the girls in my life. These two sets are wrapped for the occasion in Pixi’s metallic purple and silver boxes so nothing more is needed before putting it in a stocking.

I oohed and aahed when I received these for review and I know that anyone I’d buy them for would too.

Pixi Beauty Icy Lip Luster and Icy Eye Palette

Pixi Beauty Icy Lip Luster and Icy Eye Palette

The Icy Lip Luster in Snowbunny Glace is a set of 4 short chubby glosses in beautiful colors. These are just 2.25 inches tall so are easy to put in a clutch when you are out and about. The formula is ultra moisturizing, they have a slight fragrance of coconut so it reminds me of eating a Mounds bar. Two of the shades are creamy and full bodied (the tints), the other two are whispers of color with sparkle to add some lip brightening (the shimmery glosses). Pixi Beauty includes Vitamin E in the formula to keep your lips moist and nourished.

Pixi Beauty Icy Eye Palette in Buff Blizzard

The Icy Eye Palette in Buff Blizzard has my name written all over it. I love the quality, the colors, the texture and the finish of this set. It’s become a favorite that will last long after the holidays. There are 6 mineral eyeshadows in easy to wear yet striking shades. It comes with a dual sided foam applicator but I use brushes and get almost no fall out from the shadows. While some of the shadows appear to be very shimmery they aren’t that way on my lid. I’m not a matte shadow lover so the light shimmer from these are exactly the way I like my shadows. As you can see it opens from the top which makes it unique.

This beauty is only $12 and is one that will be worn all year long. Be sure to hurry to get this LE set.logo pixi

A holiday for your lips: Butter London Winter Peach Lippy Trio

A fantastic stocking stuffer idea that will really gives you gorgeous holiday lips is the Winter Peach LIPPY Trio ($39, a $58 VALUE) from Butter London.

Butter London Winter Peach

Butter London Winter Peach LIPPY Trio

I know we are all in a ‘wine’ frenzy this season- both in terms of color and in terms of beverage, ha! – but peach is a wonderful way to go for winter. The Butter London Winter Peach Lippy Trio includes Jaffa LIPPY Liquid Lip, Wag LIPPY Shimmer, and Apricot Sunray LIPPY Tinted Balm.

Jaffa LIPPY Liquid Lipstick is an opaque, warm reddish-orange-coral liquid lipstick.

The LIPPY Liquid Lipstick has a thick, slightly sticky texture with wonderful pigment and staying power. It has great mouth feel and slip. It smells of vanilla but not in an overbearing way. It’s very shiny on, and that shine lasts through most things…like most lippies, it wouldn’t withstand a shredded barbecue pork feast.

Wag LIPPY Shimmer is a beautiful, shimmery peachy-pink with golden flecks.

Wag

The LIPPY Shimmer has a thinner consistency than the LIPPY Liquid Lipstick and it glides on like silk. Despite it’s thinner formula, it’s still very tenacious and sticks around a good long time. The color is so, so pretty…I see this as a winter option, but really it could work for any season, especially summer.

The Apricot Sunray LIPPY Tinted Balm is a coral creme with medium coverage.

Apricot

Apricot Sunray LIPPY Tinted Balm

This is really beautiful. It’s a perfect coral shade and the texture of this lipstick is definitely balm-like, although it has much better staying power than a typical balm. It’s extremely fun to mix and match all three lippies. I like to wear Wag over Apricot Sunray, or for a powerful pout I put a thin layer of Jaffa over Apricot Sunray. They all complement one another and are a fabulous alternative to the season’s darker hues.

If I haven’t convinced you that peach is perfect for the season and you still want some wine, then check out the Cherry Kiss LIPPY Trio instead!  – Lisa

Lush holiday is out of this world: Shooting Stars Holiday Gift Set

Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, the bath and body store that keeps bath-time fanatics up at night with visions of thick foamy bubbles and magical color-changing bath water, has some amazing holiday gift sets this year. They sent the BIZ the Shooting Stars Holiday Set ($37.95), which is absolutely perfect to gift your bath-loving friends or to add to your own holiday wish list.  Every treat inside is totally out of this world.

inside the big ornament

inside the big ornament

Shooting Stars is a great way to tell someone you think he/she is a star. The huge ornament holds five awesome Lush treats, including a lip balm, a body soap, two bath bombs, and a bath melt.

Honey Trap

Lush Honey Trap Lip Balm

Honey

mmm, smells and tastes like honey, vanilla, and white chocolate!

Honey Trap Lip Balm is a cult favorite which is no surprise as this little dynamo is mixed by hand so it has a softer texture and smells and tastes delicious. This is a wonderful little gift to find inside that great big ornament because it is ALWAYS sold out at my local Lush store!! It smells like honey, vanilla, and white chocolate, it tastes great on the lips, and it makes lips kissably soft.

Lush

Lush Rock Star Soap

How cute is this star-shaped Rock Star Soap? This is bubble gum rock, with pink and sweet and vanilla suds that leave you singing in the shower, putting Britney Spears to shame. Rock Star is a soft soap, so keep it in a covered soap dish or out of the shower to get the most from it. It really is lots of fun and smells better than a candy store.

Lush

Lush Shoot for the Stars Bath Bomb

Shooting Stars includes the brand new for the season Shoot for the Stars Bath Bomb. A bath with this beauty is truly an otherworldly experience. It has the iconic caramel Honey I Washed the Kids scent and it turns bath water into ribbons of purple, blue, yellow and pink, with tiny white moisturizing stars floating about. It’s so cool, people have even put up YouTube videos showing what it does! Watching this bath bomb spin wildly as it shoots out different colors will have you thinking aliens have invaded your tub time…but in a good way.

Lush

Lush Twilight Bath Bomb

The Twilight Bath Bomb is awesome for a night-time bath. The vanilla and lavender scent is relaxing, a perfect usher into dream time. Bubbly bath water turns from pink to purple and then there’s pretty glitter to really brighten up your mood. In the end the bath water does look like a starry night and you are totally ready for some sweet dreams.

Lush

Lush Star Light Star Bright Luxury Bath Melt

The limited edition Star Light Star Bright Luxury Bath Melt is a beautiful, sparkly holiday treat with mega-moisturizing organic shea butter and extra virgin coconut oil. It smells clean and happy with notes of ginger and lime. The shea butter makes bath water very silky and creamy, and it’s like magic for dry skin. Like many Lush treats, this has a hidden treat inside that I won’t spoil for you, but it does turn bath water blue shot through with silver glitter. Be prepared to be a sparkly version of yourself afterward!

best ornament ever!!

best ornament ever!!

While Lush has many fabulous gift options this season, I vote for Shooting Stars.  Everything inside has something extra to really brighten your mood and make you feel like a star. Be sure to grab this before it sells out!  – Lisa

Top Ten Tuesday – 2013 Stocking Stuffers

TOP TEN TUESDAY is here with stocking stuffer ideas. This was extremely fun for me since I’ve never filled a stocking nor had one filled for me. Poor Marcia. But that has never stopped me from thinking about items as stocking stuffers. I just love the idea of it and love to hear what others would be getting. Here are some items that I used this year that I’d put in stockings if given the chance.
1. PIXI BEAUTY ICY EYE PALETTE is a fabulous palette for only $12 that I’m in love with. It would be great for any woman on your list and your own stocking too. Buff Blizzard is just the right size for any stocking.
2. PIXI BEAUTY ICY LIP LUSTER is a set of 4 glosses in a decorative box for $16. You could give 1, 2 or all 4 of these to someone on your list. The lighter shades in this are sparkly and fun and would be great for young teens while the darker shades could go to your older teen.
3. BEAUTY BLENDER SPONGE is my go to. I’ve used these for years and consider it to be a holy grail item. If you have a makeup lover in your life that wouldn’t splurge on something when there’s a very inexpensive alternative, then this would be absolutely perfect. Plus it now comes in black or white!
4. MONT BLEU MIRRORS are simply stunning. Every woman wants something sparkly for a gift and these mirrors are the perfect item to put a smile on someone’s face. There are so many styles to pick from that every woman you know could get a different one.
5. EYES COLLAGEN EYE PADS (these used to be called Eyedews) are my favorite treat for party time. These help diminish the puffiness and lines that all that partying (or life) does to me. There are now 3 varieties which we’ll be reviewing very soon. You want them and so does your mother, sister, niece and best friend!
6. FURLESSE LIP-STICKS are another favorite especially for party time. You’ll be amazed at how relaxed those pesky lines will look. Furlesse also makes Crows, Rows and Elevens for your eyes. You’ll be doing someone a big favor with these in their stocking.
7. BEAUTY SPOON is a fun and unusual gift that won’t get you in trouble with your mother-in-law. These are available at Walmart in the beauty section so you could buy this as a last minute gift. The Beauty Spoon helps get out every last bit of the creams, lotions and potions from a jar.
8. SHAVE TECH RECHARGEABLE TRAVEL SHAVER absolutely wowed my husband and I know it would wow my sons. It’s a slim, portable electric razor that you charge with your USB port. It has the sleek lines of today’s technology and fits in a pocket. The men in your life will thank you for this.
9. UNCOMMON GOODS iPHONE CASES are just plain fun. The ones shown in the collage are on sale for only $9.99. There are so many styles that it would be easy to find the perfect one for anyone on your list that has an iPhone 4/4s/5. Follow my link and enter the giveaway for one (through 12/13/13).
10. LILLY BRUSH is a practical yet nice looking stocking stuffer. It does a great job on clothing that pills up and also for removing pet fur. I bet you have a long list that this would be appropriate for.

I can’t wait to read the other lists to see what I’ll be missing out on this holiday or what I should be shopping for now actually. Join me! — Marcia

Savvy

Savvy Sleeper Satin Pillow Case in Truffle

2.  For the gorgeous guy or gal who wants to wake up to perfect skin, Savvy Sleepers Satin Pillow Cases (from $36) are a perfect choice.

When I saw Dr. Oz recommending satin pillow cases in an episode last January, I knew the Savvy Sleeper was something I needed. Silk pillow cases are too slippery…the Savvy Sleeper satin is perfect, super soft but you don’t slide off the pillow.

I absolutely adore my satin pillow case in Truffle, which is a pure black. This pillow case hides all sins, even the occasional ‘oops I fell asleep in my makeup!’ sin. It comes in both standard and king size and is machine washable. I have my special satin pillow on my bed and my hubby knows – don’t even think about stealing this pillow from me while I am sleeping!!

Why is a satin pillow case essential? Dermatologists recommend it for keeping skin smooth and free of wrinkles. You won’t wake up with the dreaded ‘facial crease’ after a night of heavy sleeping. No matter what, skin looks smooth thanks to the low sheen satin pillow case. Plus it is fantastic for preserving hair styles and blow-outs.

I also adore that the Savvy Sleeper Satin Pillow Cases have a secret pocket. Put hair ties, earrings, or headphones into it…I keep hoping my hubby will slip a cute little note in one day.

Savvy

What can you hide in the secret pocket…how about ear plugs?

Savvy

Or even better, breath mints!

Besides Truffle, other shades available include Nappacino, a creamy light tan, and White Russian, which turns pillows into white satin clouds.

Great news -Savvy Sleeper has created a 20% off code for Beauty Info Zone. Use BEAUTYINFO through Dec. 20, 2013 for 20% off your order.

Paco

Paco Rabanne 1 Million Intense

3.  For the guy who wants to smell like a million bucks, there is no better gift than Paco Rabanne 1 Million Intense ($84 for 3.4 oz, $63 for 1.7 oz) men’s fragrance.

Not only does it smell like a million bucks, it looks like a millions bucks…quite literally.

1 Million Intense is a very manly, sexy scent that was just released in September. This cologne is not for wimps – check out the notes: top notes are blood mandarin, cardamom, black pepper and saffron; heart notes are rose absolute, neroli, and cinnamon; base notes are white leather, orris root, patchouli, and sandalwood. All together it equals fresh and spicy with a touch of leather. And the packaging is nothing short of brilliant – it looks like a bar of gold. Guys who like some bling will love this gift.

Bango

Bango

4.  For the do-it-yourselfer who loves ingenious inventions, a fantastic option is the Bango Hair Cutting Kit ($15.99, available at Ulta, Amazon, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond).

Celebrity stylist Trey Burnette invented the Bango® after he got tired of his clients attempting to do their own trims in between haircut appointments. This neat little package really has everything you need to keep your hair looking perfect in between salon visits.

You can trim bangs, split ends, and top layers to keep hair looking fresh. It’s nicely affordable, and this is one practical gift that people will be thanking you for again and again. It comes with an instructional DVD, 5″ Precision Shears, 2 hair clips, a comb, and the Bango® tool. The Bango®  tool is “a patented at-home hair trimming tool that is calibrated with three comb tension to hold hair as tightly as a stylist and has straight and arched cutting edges and cutting teeth for texturizing ends.” What that means is it’s easy to trim hair – plus you can trim a little at a time to avoid the dreaded too-short bangs.

Juara

Juara Skincare Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath and Shower Gel

5.  For the girly girl who loves her showers and baths, you can’t go wrong with Juara Skincare Tiare Jasmine Tea Bath and Shower Gel ($28).

Oh my goodness…this is a huge bottle of shower/bath gel that has beautiful packaging and the most gorgeous scent ever.

Juara

one huge bottle of showering bliss

Juara

love the packaging, it’s so pretty and elegant

I am a huge fan of jasmine, so this shower/bath gel was right up my alley with its sweet but not cloying scent of jasmine tea leaves.  It’s a perfect skin cleanser that doesn’t dry out skin and in fact nourishes it with white, black and green teas.  There is no sulfate in it, so it’s super gentle and non-irritating.  And the bottle is so huge, it will probably last until next Christmas!

The packaging is just plain gorgeous, with a beautiful and elegant floral design.  Anyone who loves bath and body products will be completely thrilled to find this under the tree.

6. For the good smelling friend who believes in supporting small businesses, I highly recommend SunyIslandBlu Soap Company on Etsy.

I recently bought five body sprays from SunyIslandBlu Soap Company after I found them on Etsy, and I am totally bowled over by the high quality and the absolutely yummy scents.

I love my fantastic body sprays so much, I placed another order as gifts for my friends!  Here’s what is on the way to my doorstep right now:  Island Chic Whipped Cream Soap, Tobacco Caramel Soap, Shampoo and Conditioner in Island Coconut, Hair Detangler in Island Chic, and a Perfume Oil Set of three roll-on fragrance oils.  I chose Exotic Coconut, Island Coconut, and Toasted Marshmallow.  Hmmm…come to think of it, a lot of these might just be under MY tree with my name on the tag!!

Shinola in Detroit

7.  Speaking of supporting small businesses, an absolutely fantastic local company – everything is made in Detroit, by people who live here and raise their families here – is Shinola.

Shinola is a small manufacturing company that creates handmade watches, bicycles, and leather goods.  This  amazing local company makes beautiful, unique, sturdy pieces that will last through generations in your family.

On my Christmas wish list is the Women’s Bixby Bicycle ($1950).  Yup, pretty spendy…but this vintage looking yet totally modern bike makes my heart go pitter-patter.
