October Beauty that gives back: La Mer the Hand Treatment, Aveda Hand Relief, and Bumble and Bumble Pret a Powder

BCA 2014
A few days ago I posted an article called We are stronger together. Fight breast cancer all year round!  If you haven’t seen it, be sure to take a moment and check it out for all the information on Estee Lauder’s BCA Campaign, including the video now on YouTube.  Throughout October I will be reviewing some of the really terrific limited edition BCA products sent to us that are now available for purchase.  Don’t forget, Estee Lauder donates $1 for every product sold!

Today is all about hands and hair.  La Mer Limited Edition BCA the Hand Treatment ($45 for 1.7 fl.oz.) is a totally luxurious hand creme.  I love how it melts into the skin like butter – check it out, I only had the swatch on my hand for 10 seconds before it started slipping around.  It leaves my hands utterly soft and hydrated without any greasiness.  It’s especially good after using hand sanitizer, which dries my skin out like crazy.  This has the classic La Mer scent…to me it smells like money, ha!  This is one of those products that people swear by and hide so other people won’t ask for some.  Get one for yourself and one for a friend, then you won’t have to share!  La Mer is donating a whopping $10 for every tube sold to breast cancer research.

I can’t walk past an Aveda store without going in just to breathe in that awesome scent.  The Limited Edition Hand Relief Moisturizing Creme ($26) is scented with that fabulous Shampure aroma, made with 25 pure flower and plant essences.  Aveda is donating $4 per tube sold to research by the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  Not only that, but the tube is actually 19% larger than the normal size.  I have purchased and repurchased this hand creme because it is serious relief for dry skin…and it lasts through three hand washings.

Give breast cancer research a hand and buy one of these hand treatments for yourself or for a friend.

Bumble and Bumble Limited Edition BCA Pret-a-Powder

Bumble and Bumble Limited Edition BCA Pret-a-Porter powder

I absolutely love the adorable packaging for the Bumble & Bumble Pret-a-Powder ($26 for a 2 oz. bottle), a dry shampoo in powder form.  The BCA Limited Edition bottle has a pink cap in place of the regular black one.  It is super cute, and one bottle will last forever.  Inside is a super fine white powder that soaks up oil and gives hair great texture.  Yes, the powder is white, but it works for any hair color.  You need very little powder, just pour a small amount into your palm and rub into the scalp and hair, adding only a tiny bit at a time until you get the desired effect.  This is particularly good for giving fine hair some oomph that lasts all day.  The really great news is that Bumble & Bumble is donating $5 from every sale to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

In addition to the amounts donated by each specific company, the Estee Lauder company is donating another $1 to breast cancer research.  Plus, for every uplifting message or photo shared on Instagram or Twitter that includes #BCAstrength, the Estée Lauder Companies will donate another $1 toward education and medical research, up to a maximum donation of $22,000, to BCRF.   And check out their new website www.BCAcampaign.com where they encourage people to join with them and  “Hear our stories.  Share yours.”  – Lisa

Just delicious…be Delectable Coconut & Cream body products

Me when I wear those pancake-scented body products.  Plus a blueberry perm.  liveplayfully.gogosqueez.com

I would rather smell good enough to eat than smell…perfumey.  I’ve had my missteps with foody scents…I will never forget the time I was in a meeting and a colleague said, ‘Who smells like pancakes??’  While I was too chicken to identify myself as the refugee from IHOP, I’ve been far more careful about my ‘foody’ choices since then.  Lately, my favorite food scented products that don’t go overboard are some be Delectable Coconut & Cream body products that were sent to us.

be Delectable Coconut & Cream body products

be Delectable Coconut & Cream body products

I previously reviewed the be Delectable Coconut & Cream Decadent Hair and Body Mist HERE, which has become a staple for me.  I love body sprays because they don’t hit you over the head like regular perfume can.  So I was pretty stoked when be Delectable sent the accompanying body products in the same scent – it is all about layering.  Coconut & Cream is a creamy coconut fragrance that is deep and heavenly, and isn’t too sweet.

be Delectable Coconut & Cream Body Scrub

be Delectable Coconut & Cream Super Smoothing Body Polish

Start off your coconutty scent fest with the Coconut & Cream Super Smoothing Body Polish ($14).   This body scrub has coconut oil and aloe vera to moisturize while finely ground apricot shells exfoliate and leave skin smooth and glowy.

be Delectable Coconut & Cream Body Wash

be Delectable Coconut & Cream Body Wash

After exfoliating, the Supremely Rich Body Wash ($10) is a wonderful shower gel.  The coconut scent in this seems even more delicious.  The body wash cleanses and hydrates with coconut oil (of course!) and aloe vera.

be Delectable Coconut & Cream Hand Cream

be Delectable Coconut & Cream Hand Cream

The Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream ($10) is a thick, supremely moisturizing lotion that really softens hands without leaving them wet or greasy.  Ingredients include mango butter, shea butter and aloe vera so it easily takes care of rough skin and cuticles.  Plus, it leaves hands delicately scented with soft coconut…just lovely.

All of the be Delectable products are made by Cake Beauty and are available at Kohls.  Be sweet without smelling like breakfast…or dessert…with these super affordable and easy to find body products.  – Lisa

Yummy! be Delectable from Cake Beauty

Next time you walk into Kohl’s, go ahead and look for something sinfully sweet.  You will find it in the body product section at the be Delectable from Cake Beauty display.  This line might not take away the rumbling in your tummy, but it will leave your skin feeling and smelling delicious.

Delectable Cake Beauty

be Delectable from Cake Beauty

be Delectable has five different body products that are available in four different scents.  They sent two of their body products for me to test: the Coconut & Cream Decadent Hair and Body Mist ($10) and the Strawberry and Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream ($12).  I am a ‘foody’ scent person, and I love body products, so it sounded almost as good as coconut ice cream covered in strawberries.

Coconut & Cream Body Spray

Coconut & Cream Body Mist

I use a body mist every day and I have very particular preferences.  I like a body mist that isn’t too wet because I don’t like standing around without my clothes on…I just don’t have the time to fend off all the handsome men.  Actually, I am always running late, so waiting for fragrance to dry is annoying. The Decadent Hair and Body Mist is on the wet side, but if I hold the bottle far away it results in a finer, faster drying spray.  The Coconut & Cream scent is aptly named as it’s a creamy coconut fragrance without a lot of complexity.  This is a great hair and body mist for those who don’t want a super strong scent.  My teenage daughter absolutely loves it, and the price is definitely right.

The Strawberry and Cream Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream is a thick and super moisturizing lotion that really softens hands.  Ingredients include mango butter, shea butter and aloe vera so it tackles rough skin and cuticles with ease.

Strawberry & Cream Hand Lotion

Strawberry & Cream Hand Lotion

Strawberry & Cream

Strawberry & Cream Hand Cream

The fragrance in this is again pretty straightforward – it smells like sweetened strawberries.  The scent intensity is a little stronger in the hand cream and it lingers for a long time.  A little bit of this hand cream goes a long way, so the price is excellent and the tube lasts a very long time.

Other scents available from be Delectable include Lemon & Cream and Vanilla & Cream.  Next time you are at Kohl’s be sure to check out this sweet-smelling line, or do a little online shopping at http://be-delectable.com.  – Lisa

I’ve been using the hand cream and it’s wonderful. It’s not the least bit greasy. You can instantly go about your life after applying just a pea size amount. I’m amazed at how true the scents are. Right now I’m using Fresh Lemon Hand Cream as well as Cherry-Almond. Anyone that knows me knows that scents are not my thing but I love these, I really do. The lemon does not smell fake or like a kitchen cleaner, it’s a true tart lemon fragrance made with natural ingredients. The cherry-almond is to die for. It makes me want to open it just to smell it. You need such a small amount that you’ll think at first that you haven’t used enough but believe me, it works best that way and the jar lasts longer. Since I’m lucky enough to have 3 of these at my disposal I’ve got one in my bathroom, one by my computer, and one in my purse. My hands took a beating this winter and the skin is rough. I want to change that and Keep Buzzin’ is the way.

Top Ten Tuesday – nails and manicures

top ten tuesdayTop Ten Tuesday this week is all about nails, manicures and hands. It will be fun to see how the group of Beauty Bloggers decides to interpret this. Will we see a lot of nail polishes? Will we see treatments? Will we see puppies and kittens? (Just checking to make sure you are paying attention. Are you?) Since I’m not a nail blogger I’m concentrating on the items that I need to take care of my hands and feet along with a little about nails. Here are 10+ favorites of mine. — Marcia

1. HAND PERFECTION FROM ELLEN SIROT *- shown is the complete set of products that Hand Perfection carries. I especially love the Cuticle Pen since it’s so portable and easy to use and her daytime hand cream. In the kit is also a night time hand cream that’s wonderful too but lately I’ve been forgetting to use it and my hands notice the difference.
2. ATOPALM MOISTURIZING HAND TREATMENT – this is a new favorite. I love that it’s not greasy. I went on a little shopping spree for Atopalm products and this one attracted me instantly. (I like variety in everything but men!)
3. ECO-ARMOUR ADVANCED BALANCED SERUM *- I know this doesn’t sound like a hand product but the description says it’s for face, neck and nails. I find the scent a little too “eco” for my face but it’s great for my hands during the day. I never thought of a serum for nails but the skin around my nails is always looking for moisture.
4. TWEEZERMAN FINGERNAIL CLIPPER – This is the tool that helps me get back to sleep at night when I’m tossing and turning. I’ve never used it on my fingernails but I do use it on my toenails all the time. If you aren’t plagued with insomnia then you don’t know the feeling of every little thing interrupting sleep. For me it’s often toenails that are too long or catch on the sheets. So there I am at 3 a.m. with my handy Tweezerman nail clipper.
5. BADGER BALM CUTICLE CARE – I haven’t written about Badger Balm in a long time but that doesn’t mean it’s not in my arsenal of tools. The Cuticle Care really helps moisturize your cuticles on both hands and feet. It’s only $5.99 and lasts for ages.
6. AMLACTIN FOOT CREAM – This was in one of the Blush Mystery Beauty Boxes that I subscribed to for a while. It’s probably the best item that I got in all the boxes I bought. I use this often at night and it’s really helped my feet from cracking and aching. It’s creamy so it takes time to sink in but I honestly sleep better when I use it.
7. ATOPALM MOISTURIZING FOOT AND HEAL BALM – Again, part of my Atopalm spree. I wanted to see if it was better than the AmLactin. I like them both but they are different. Atopalm has a more gel like texture and dries more quickly. It’s recommended to use it after your morning bath/shower which is what I do (if I remember). I want softer feet obviously.
8. DURI REJUVACOTE – When my nails aren’t in good condition, this is what I turn to. It’s meant to heal and cure cracked nails. It can be used over polish or as a base coat. My previous nail tech used to use this on my nails all the time to keep them healthy. Now I have my own bottle to use over polish.
9. and 10. CULT NAILS GET IT ON PERFECTING BASE COAT and WICKED FAST SPEED DRY TOP COAT – I’m so happy I bought these when I was buying some Cult Nail polishes. Both are excellent products that I use when I’m working on my nails myself. I often put on a top coat to prolong my manicure and Wicked Fast is so shiny and faster to dry than any other top coat I own. It doesn’t get goopy quickly either like Seche Vite.
Now that you know my “secret” weapons go visit my fellow bloggers to see what they’ve chosen. I can’t wait personally since I know that I’m going to find things that will help me keep my hands looking younger than they do now. – Marcia
