It’s always interesting to me is to learn about the companies that I’m using and going to share with you. I’m not talking about the big department store brands that we are all familiar with but I am interested in the independent companies that have a story behind them.

White Sands Haircare

White Sands Hair Products were created by the Salas family with a small amount of money and one product. Once they were able to introduce their product at the Orlando Premiere Beauty Show, sell everything they brought, they began their journey from there. Their American dream had begun and now fine salons throughout the country know their story.

Lisa already reviewed the three White Sands products she received and now it’s time for me to take you back to the beginning of your shower time with White Sands Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner (as well as two others).

White Sands Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Revitalizing Conditioner

There are 3 different shampoo and conditioner lines created by White Sands and I was thrilled to receive Orchid Bliss. These two products are wonderful for hair like mine: color treated and needing frizz control. Orchid Bliss shampoo and conditioner use the anti-aging characteristics and mineral richness of the orchid flower. As someone who is averse to fragrance in products I was a little leery of what this would bring. All I can say is that it’s wonderful. The fragrance is minimal and actually one I only notice in the shower. After I dry my hair I don’t notice it all. What I do notice though is a shiny head of hair that is moisturized and soft, one that isn’t looking or feeling dried out, one that isn’t as affected by humidity.

Orchid Bliss Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner are sulfate free so I feel they’re safer for my hair. One ingredient I look for in haircare is Sodium and unfortunately the shampoo does contain Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulforate and other varieties of sodium. That hasn’t been a deal killer for me now but once I get another keratin treatment I’ll have to put the Revitalizing Shampoo to the side for a few months. Luckily for me the other products I’m using, including Revitalizing Conditioner will continue to be used once the treatment is done. The conditioner is best if you leave it in for about a minute but that’s not an unusual direction.

White Sands the Cure 24/7 serum and Porosity the fix

I’m never done when my shampooing and conditioning are finished. Next is towel drying with my Aquis hair towel and a treatment product or two to work through my hair and make it easier to style.

White Sands the CURE 24/7 serum

White Sands the Cure 24/7 serum

White Sands compares The Cure 24/7 to a blur cream. I think that’s a great way to think about this product. The serum is a leave in reconstructive treatment with visible results. It is known for repairing damaged hair fibers, making your hair stronger and healthier, and restoring hair that’s been abused. As someone who uses 2 – 3 heat tools a day I need this. I’d been torturing my hair and needed this to make my hair look smoother and less flyaway. It’s done just that. While I don’t notice that I have split ends that’s one of the positives that White Sands talks about with The Cure. I spray this on and then comb through my hair prior to blow drying.

White Sands Porosity The Fix

White Sands Porosity The Fix is an old friend of mine. My hairdresser is a huge fan of White Sands and Porosity The Fix is a product she uses on me whenever I’m in for color and cut. Just like The Cure 24/7 was compared to a blur product, The Fix has been compared to makeup for hair. This is especially great for people who color treat their hair since it temporarily fills in the “blemishes” found in each strand. Porosity The Fix is wonderful prior to any heat use, especially a flat iron. My hairdresser uses this as my shine product when she’s done with my hair. I use it that way too but also prior to using my flat iron. I can use this daily without worrying about build up.

All in all I’m thrilled to have White Sands in my repertoire. The fear of fragrance was wrong wrong wrong. What little fragrance I notice is irrelevant but my great looking hair is very relevant. Something you and your hair will notice and love too.  —  Marcia

Calling all brunettes: John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Lightening Collection is your new friend

It’s summer and there’s actually sun coming out to play. It seems like it took forever to get here but I’ve made the best of it with summer shiny hair thanks to John Frieda. They say that blondes have all the fun but if you are a brunette you too can have summer fun with the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Lightening Collection.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Subtle Lightening Shampoo

There are three pieces to this collection but I’ve mostly been using the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner to bring out shine and highlights on my brown hair. I get my hair colored about every 3 to 4 weeks but with John Frieda I’ve been stretching it out longer and getting in about 5 weeks. I love saving time and money! I’m not someone who enjoys sitting for 2 hours in a salon while getting color done. I like instant gratification – or at least quick gratification.

I’ve been washing my hair with the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Shampoo. I love how much brighter and more alive my hair looks after using this. The shampoo is a light golden caramel color that deposits color that’s lighter than my current shade. It doesn’t change the color as much as it brightens it. I usually leave the shampoo in for about 2 minutes before rinsing. This leaves my hair so shiny and it’s not drying at all.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Subtle Lightening Shampoo

On to the Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Conditioner which is thicker and luxurious looking. That I leave on for several minutes even though directions don’t necessarily tell me to do so. But I love the softness that it provides while nourishing my hair. My hair also feels fuller after using this giving me some nice volume.

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Subtle Lightening Conditioner

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Visibly Brighter Subtle Lightening Conditioner

The sum total of these two products is a more golden shade with extra brightness but no brassiness. I wash my hair 3 times per week and the more often I use these John Frieda products in between color appointments the more golden my hair looks. If you want even more lightening then wash every day. Your hairdresser won’t like this but you certainly will.

before

John Frieda Visibly Brighter after

These two products are formulated with honey and marigold flower extract which gives them a light fragrance. I notice the fragrance when I’m first blow drying but afterwards my hair just smells like freshly washed hair.

You don’t need color treated hair to try these as they work perfectly on all brunettes even those of us who need a “little” help keeping the gray at bay. At $9.99 MSRP each you’ll have months of shiny hair that makes you think that you too are a blonde having fun. —  Marcia

My hair obsession continues with Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to save time, I can “see” it on your face that you’re right there with me. That’s why we need tools that are made just for that purpose. The nice folks at Revlon wanted to help me along when they sent their One Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer.

Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

Revlon One Step Hair Dryer and Volumizer

Revlon makes two different One Step hair dryers and I’ve tried them both. For my shoulder length semi-straight hair this one is the winner. Not only do I get my hair dry with just this brush but I style it at the same time.

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

I’ve been having a hair dilemma of late. I want straight hair but I don’t want to straighten it with chemicals. I’ve done that in the past and probably will again but now isn’t the time. With this Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer I am getting straight hair but it’s not super straight. I’m getting just enough volume and lots of swing.

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

Because I’m able to work quickly I’m noticing less damage too. The bristles are nylon pin and tufted bristles. Since they have this wavy pattern there’s volume added without pulling. The barrel has a 2″ diameter so it’s best for longer hair. I think it would be amazing on very long hair since you’d get it flat at first and then be able to add gorgeous waves.

With Ionic Technology and a ceramic coating you get the protection your hair needs from the heat. There are 3 heat settings and I’ve been using it on the second one. I don’t notice it ever gets cool but setting 1 is great for refreshing my hair on days I don’t wash.

What can beat a tool that can be used wet or dry, that saves time, that helps with shine and volume? That’s why you need to consider the Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer.  —  Marcia

Evolving my hair care with ColorProof PlushLocks Leave-In Smooth and All Around Flexible Hairspray

ColorProof Hair Care

When I look in the mirror before I leave each morning and I see good hair, I just know it means I am going to have a good day. If I’ve got some reliable products, I can go days without having to wash and dry my hair which saves valuable time for sleeping and…well…more sleeping. So I usually turn to ColorProof for a little magic to turn my bed head into good hair/good days. My two recent favorites that ColorProof sent me to test (and that will no question be repurchases for me) are ColorProof PlushLocks Leave-In Smooth ($30.00) and ColorProof’s AllAround Flexible Hold Hairspray ($26.00).

ColorProof Hair Care

ColorProof PlushLocks Leave-In Smooth makes my hair wonderfully soft, silky, and shiny. I have very fine hair and this never weighs it down. My hair is pretty long so I always need help with my ends, which tend to get crunchy by after a few days, and this little bottle of goodness never fails to do the trick. It keeps my color vibrant, keeps my strands smooth, and keeps my curls in place.

ColorProof Hair Care

I use a little hairspray every day and I am absolutely loving ColorProof’s AllAround Flexible Hold Hairspray. My other favorite hairspray is one of theirs – the Epic Hold Hairspray. I think I have five back up cans in my cupboard. I use that one when I need all day hold for megacurls. The AllAround Flexible Spray is the one I reach for when I have beachy waves that I want to keep all day long. It keeps my volume so my hair doesn’t fall flat, but my hair is still soft and I can run my hands or a comb through it. The spray doesn’t smell all perfumey, and it doesn’t build up so if I need a refresher the next day it’s never a problem. I love this hairspray and plan to buy several cans to join my other back ups. Then maybe that OCD voice in my head will give me a break. Oh who am I kidding…but I’m still buying those cans!

You can find ColorProof in salons nationwide, as well as online and at Amazon and Overstock.com. I love this line and recommend them for their hairsprays in particular. I really hope you will check them out – you won’t regret it!  – Lisa

Spring hair trends at Meijer! L’Oreal, Pantene, and John Frieda drugstore finds

Meijer spring hair

*This is a sponsored post, all opinions my own*

Spring is so close I can almost smell it!!  I can’t wait for soft warm breezes blowing my hair, smelling the lilacs and the jasmine…oh I just can’t wait.  Both Marcia and I have been thinking a lot about replenishing and refreshing our stashes for the change of the seasons, and Meijer is the place to do it.  I am super lucky because I have a Meijer just about two miles from my house.  I prefer going there because I can get my groceries plus any other sundries all in one place.

Meijer recently sent some samples of some of their hair care they have featured for spring.  I have a few favorites that are worth considering on your next shopping trip.

L'Oreal Extraordinary Clay Hair Products

If you have teenagers in the houes, you need the L’Oreal Clay Extraordinary Clay hair products.  The clay does a great job of absorbing excess oil and dirt, rinsing clean so hair is soft and smells great.  What is unique is these products also treat dry ends at the same time.  The Extraordinary Clay Clay Mask is a pre-shampoo treatment for roots that works extra deep, giving very oily hair a fantastic lift.  And the Dry Shampoo is incredible for turning dirty, oily hair into fresh looking and fresh smelling locks.

Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner

We have a lot of guests at my house, so I keep my guest bathroom well stocked.  I always have bottles of Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner in my shower because everyone loves this stuff.  You can’t go wrong with good, basic hair care with a beautiful lather that detangles hair, leaving it soft and shiny.  Yup, everyone is happy.

L'Oreal Color Vibrancy Intensive Shampoo and Conditioner

For those of you with dry and damaged color treated hair, the L’Oreal Color Vibrancy Intensive Shampoo and Conditioner are your answer to those hair care woes.  My daughter recently got her hair tips dyed a bright red (and I instantly became the coolest mom to ever live), and this shampoo and conditioner has really helped keep the color super vibrant.  Just check this out:Red tipsred tips

They promise 60 days of color vibrancy, and my daughter is totally put the shampoo and conditioner to the test!

L'Oreal Ever Pure Hair Care

For super gentle care that colored hair loves, the L’Oreal Ever Pure Hair Care features products with no sulfates.  This is an especially good line for very dry, porous hair.  The Repair Remedy Balm rivals any deep moisturizing treatment I have ever tried, including some extremely expensive boutique brands.

L'Oreal Air Dry It hair styling products

I use a lot of heat styling tools all fall and winter, so I start taking a break from them and letting my hair air dry come spring.  In fact, in the summer I never let a curling iron or a blow dryer get close to my hair.  I think that’s how I’ve been able to keep my hair long and healthy for so many years.  I am impressed with the L’Oreal Air Dry It hair styling products that are excellent companions for those low maintenance hair days.  The Un-done Style Cream gives hair shape and body without buildup.  Add in a dollop of the Air Dry It Ruffled Body Mousse for extra curl and wave support, plus a spritz of the Air Dry It Wave Swept Spray to fight frizz, and you’ve got beautiful beachy locks with basically no effort.

John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray

As beautiful as they are, spring days can also be extremely humid, especially where I live in Michigan.  I can’t tell you how many days I spent forever either curling or straightening my hair, only to run from the house to my car and find it’s morphed into a head of frizz that looks like an old dandelion.  A favorite hairspray of mine is John Frieda Frizz Ease Moisture Barrier Firm Hold Hairspray, which not only hold my hair in place, it also locks out frizz for 24 hours.  All I need is 8, and it delivers!

The selection and variety of hair care products in Meijer is fantastic, and they have awesome prices for the spring season.  Be sure to stop by and stock up!  – Lisa

Hair do or hair don’t? Lots of options from Conair Brushes.

I used to only have one hairbrush. It was an Aveda paddle brush. I used it until it looked like a 3-year-old had gotten a hold of some scissors and given it a bad haircut – patches of missing bristles, most of the end nubs missing. I finally decided to branch out and see what else existed in the hair brush world and I haven’t looked back since. Conair recently sent me a few of their new brushes to try and I was more than up to the task. One didn’t work for my type of hair but happily two did – I wonder which of these brushes is perfect for your hair?

Mitch Stone Luxury Repair and Style CreamBrushes aren’t always easy to review because success or failure absolutely depends on the suitability for my personal hair type. So keep in mind that your mileage will vary from mine. I have mid-back length fine hair. While it’s fine, I have a ton of it, which means lots of tangling issues. Conair sent me three brushes, all with very different purposes:  the Round Ultra Detangler, the Dry Shampoo Brush, and the Flip Side Brush.

Conair Ultra Detangler BrushConair Ultra Detangler BrushConair Ultra Detangler BrushConair Ultra Detangler Brush

The Ultra Detangler ($18.99) is a large round wooden brush that works on wet and dry hair. It’s a good detangler – my long hair easily separates, even when it’s wet and matted. The flexible ball-tip detangling bristles don’t pull or break hair and I love this brush for styling. I section my hair and use this right at the root for lots of volume and then at the ends for a slight curl. This is a winner for medium to long hair lengths…those of you with short hair will find the barrel too large.

Conair Dry Shampoo BrushConair Dry Shampoo BrushConair Dry Shampoo Brush

I reviewed the Conair Dry Shampoo Brush ($7) about a year ago and I filed it into the ‘I never knew I needed this, but now I will never be without it’ file. I use dry shampoo all the time – probably four or five days a week on average. I spray along my hair-line all the way around as well as on my part. Sometimes I will use dry shampoo on first day hair for a little more texture and volume. And sometimes I use it because I am, as usual, running late and I just don’t have time for anything but hair triage.

Dry shampoo is awesome, but it has drawbacks if it’s not applied properly. That’s where the magic of the Conair Dry Shampoo Brush comes into play. This brush has a combo of boar bristles and nylon bristles. The boar bristles are on the inside of the brush and they distribute the dry shampoo into the hair while brushing out the dirt and oil. The nylon bristles on the outer portion lift up the hair and give it lots of volume. So hair is lifted while the dry shampoo is evenly distributed, making those tell-tale white patches a thing of the past.

Whether you have short, medium, or long hair, the Conair Dry Shampoo Brush is a must-have brush.

Now on to the one that didn’t work so well for me –

Conair The Flip Side BrushConair The Flip Side BrushConair The Flip Side Brush

Such a cool concept – the Conair The Flip Side Hair Brush ($6.98) is a doubled-sided brush with nylon bristles on one side and boar bristles on the other. The nylon bristles detangle wet or dry hair. The boar bristles give hair lots of shine. Unfortunately, the smaller size didn’t work well for my long layers. My hair actually kept getting tangled in the brush. It’s not the choice for those of us with long hair. Those with short to medium length styles will probably love the time and space-saving design.

Whether you are a one brush woman or you like to play the field, I think Conair has lots of cool brushes to choose from — which ones look good to you?  – Lisa
