Defend your hair from the polar vortex with Mark Hill Salon Professional

If you want to tackle the hazards of winter hair, Mark Hill is your go-to guy.

Mark Hill

Mark Hill

The UK hair stylist Mark Hill won both ‘British Hairdresser of the Year’ and ‘International Hairdresser of the Year’ not just once – but twice each! He is known as the ‘Master of Sexy, Wearable Hair.’ Lucky for us, he also has a fantastic and affordable  hair care line, Mark Hill Salon Professional that takes care of dry, static-filled winter hair.

For super dry hair, I recommend the MiracOilicious products. They leave my hair incredibly soft and moistened, but not flat and limp.

Mark Hill MiracOilicious 2 Minute Treatment

Mark Hill MiracOILicious 2 Minute Treatment

The Mark Hill MiracOILicious 2 Minute Intensive Treatment ($11.99) is a hair mask that I use once a week to save my ends from indoor heat and outdoor frigid air. I like to put this on the entire length of my hair, although if you have oily roots you might want to just concentrate on lower half. It makes my hair so happy – I am extremely impressed with the way it repairs dry ends and leaves my hair wonderfully shiny.

Mark Hill MiracOilicious Moroccan Argan Oil

Mark Hill MiracOILicious Moroccan Argan Oil

The Mark Hill MiracOILicious Argan Oil ($11.99) is terrific on damp hair. It moisturizes, repairs, and even speeds up dry time. I love, love, love this oil and it’s a great price for an argan oil.

Now, if frizz is your main enemy, I would advise you try the Defrizz-ilicious products.

Mark Hill Defrizzilicious

Mark Hill Defrizz-ilicious

The Mark Hill Defrizz-ilicious Oh So Smooth De-Frizz Conditioner ($9.99) is a big tube of conditioning goodness for hair. The secret ingredient is something called Sea Silk. I am not sure what that is, but it definitely leaves my hair silky soft and free of frizz.

Some real hair magic - Mark Hill Magic Drops

Some real hair magic – Mark Hill Magic Drops

I think the Mark Hill Defrizz-ilicious Magic Drops Rescue and Repair Treatment ($11.99) has a perfect name because this leave-in treatment is magical for dry hair. I have great results on my hair, but the ultimate test was on my youngest daughter’s hair. She wears a knit hat and you know how baby fine hair goes like this once the hat is off:

Well, when I smooth some Magic Drops into her damp hair, she can wear her knit hat knowing she won’t become the fly-away queen.

The magic ingredients include Micro Wheat Proteins & Keravis, which create some sort of alchemy that make this leave-in treatment pretty miraculous.

My Mark Hill hair - look ma, no frizz!

My Mark Hill hair – look ma, no frizz!

My  hair is very fine, so moisturizing products that tackle frizz often leave it so weighed down I can’t get a curl. Mark Hill Salon Professional products give me soft, conditioned, volumized hair with no static or frizz, even in the middle of a polar vortex. This is a TERRIFIC hair care line and I highly recommend it!

You can find Mark Hill Salon Professional internationally at Boots stores and in the US at Walgreens and Ulta.  – Lisa

Double hair goodness with Hubalou hair wrap and Duelette

If I were you I’d be questioning what in the world is a Hubalou and who is Duelette? The answer is that these are two products I’ve been using to help my hair look better.

Hubalou Hair Wrap

Hubalou Hair Wrap

I learned about Hubalou from Allison of Never Say Die Beauty. She reviewed the Hubalou Hair Wrap that she received from Gloss48. I thought about it overnight and didn’t stop thinking about it. Since I was ordering something else from Gloss48, it was a no-brainer that I’d add this onto my order.

Hubalou Hair Wrap

Hubalou Hair Wrap

Previously I was raving about my Aqua Towel for drying my hair. Mine is so old that it already has its driver’s license. It looks that old too. It’s very dingy and I wanted it replaced. Well Aqua Towel has changed the material and the last one I bought wasn’t nearly the same. Plus it attracted hair and wouldn’t let it go. I cringe when I see hair in things so that was a waste.

Hubalou on the other hand is made from soft, sustainable bamboo fibers. I love the feel of it and it doesn’t grab onto hair, it just helps dry it faster and without any damage.

how do I use Hubalou?

how do I wrap Hubalou?

how do I wrap Hubalou?

I’m sure most of us have used a hair turban so using it isn’t going to be difficult. Because this is so large it’s easier to tie up in turban fashion. It starts absorbing water instantly. I wrap my head out of the shower, do my morning routine (teeth, RX, vitamins) and then I’m ready to  blow dry. My hair isn’t bone dry, it’s still quite damp, but it’s amazing how quickly my hair dries after using Hubalou since it’s gotten the water out.

This sells for $24.00 and comes in 3 shades (cream, peach and plum) at Gloss48. It’s just the thing you need to minimize your dry time. It’s perfect if you have dry or brittle hair because of the softness. This is a top buy of mine.

Now you get to learn about Duelette. If you have hair long enough to wear in a pony then you really want to learn about Duelette. A lot of companies make stretchy hair ties that you can wear on your wrist that look better than the coated rubber bands. But Duelette makes an actual bracelet that looks great on your wrist as well as in your hair.

Duelette

There are different styles and colors to pick from. The bands come in either black or white, the beads are 14k gold and silver plated for shine and durability and can be worn alone or together to create different looks for different occasions.

The one I was sent is a combination of the gold and silver so it works perfectly with any jewelry and my watch. I open it wide, pull my hair back and then slide the bead to the spot it most comfortably holds my hair in a pony.

It’s stylish on my wrist as well as in my hair. For $15 you have your choice of 6 combinations so that you too can look great in just a short time even if you are coming from the gym. Duelette can be found at ChillyJilly.

Get Brazilian model hair with Plastica Fios products

Brazilian model Flavia de Oliveira

Brazilian model Flavia de Oliveira

What do I want to have in common with the Brazilian beauties like Giselle Bundchen, Adriana Limos, and the stunning Victoria Secret model Flavia de Oliveira? Well of course those bodies but that’s not going to happen. I’ll settle for those flowing locks instead and mine comes courtesy of PLASTICA FIOS haircare.

Plastica Fios haircare

Plastica Fios haircare

These are the 4 products that I’ve used for the last few months. When I was in rehab my husband would bring me some of the packages I received to cheer me up. The only thing I kept from those boxes was the Plastica Fios Smoothing Shampoo, Smoothing Conditioner and Primer. I honestly didn’t care one whit about beauty but I did care about cleanliness. I was in a wheelchair so I needed help showering and I couldn’t wait until an aide came to help me twice a week. I loved using my pretty lilac bottles and feeling like me again.

Plastica Fios’ tagline is Hair Plastic Surgery. I love that! The products are for smooth shiny hair that helps reduce frizz.

Plastica Fios Smoothing Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner

Plastica Fios Smoothing Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner

The first two steps to having hydrated, frizz free hair are the Smoothing Shampoo and Smoothing Conditioner ($20 each). I really appreciate that they are numbered, I don’t have to squint in the shower to figure out which to pick up. Both are white creamy products that are very moisturizing yet don’t leave hair greasy at all. They contain a combination of acai oil and arginine that helps to nourish your hair. plastica fios info conditionerThere is a slight pleasant fragrance but one that doesn’t linger. I know some people love fragrance in products but I’m not one of those.

Plastica Fios Primer and Instant Reconstruction Mask

Plastica Fios Primer and Instant Reconstruction Mask

The next step is either the Plastica Fios Primer or the Instant Reconstruction Mask.

Plastica Fios Primer

Plastica Fios Primer

I use the Plastica Fios Primer ($15) more often than the mask. This is a thin cream that I pump onto my hands and then smooth through my hair. The leave in conditioner does 5 things for you:

  • Thermal Protection
  • Restores Hair Fiber
  • Prevents Breakage
  • Prevents Frizz
  • Provides long-lasting smoothness
Plastica Fios Instant Reconstruction Mask

Plastica Fios Instant Reconstruction Mask

The Instant Reconstruction Mask ($24) is a once a week treatment that I use just 1 to 2 times a month. I no longer wash my hair daily so I don’t feel I need this extra hydration that often. My favorite time to use this is a few days before getting my hair color-treated. It adds some extra nourishment and makes my hair wonderfully soft.

Plastica Fios Instant Reconstruction Mask

It’s a luxuriously rich cream that your hair will appreciate. It helps strengthen hair and gives you that Brazilian model look.

Plastica Fios is a line developed by Cadiveu Professional: Developed in Brazil, the Cadiveu Professional brand uses natural ingredients and innovative green technologies so consumers can get the hair they have always wanted. Cadiveu is an eco-friendly company contributing to waste reduction and producing 100 percent recyclable packaging and never testing on animals.”

Besides giving my hair a beautiful look, I appreciate that these products use natural eco-friendly ingredients. While I’m never going to be tall with legs like a supermodel, I can sure use work on producing beautiful hair with Plastica Fios. — Marcia

Getting in the holiday groove with Glossybox December 2014 Subscription Box

Glossybox 2014 DecemberDecember is the holiday month and the December Glossybox has everything you need to be party ready. The Glossybox Subscription Box is $21 a month (or you can save more with a 3-month, 6-month or annual subscription.) Each box has a combination of deluxe and full size beauty products and the box that Glossybox sent to us for review this month is pretty impressive.

Glossybox 2014 December packaging

It only makes sense that the December Glossybox has a holiday theme. I adore the packaging, it is just beautiful. The box is adorable as well as sturdy and will definitely find its way under my tree this year. Once that gift is opened, I am taking my box back to reuse it again next year!

Glossybox 2014 December Subscription Box

Glossybox 2014 December Subscription Box

Four of the five items in this month’s box are full size, with a combined value of $94…pretty awesome for a $21 box. The products in the December Box are what you need for soft hands, skin, and hair, plus fabulously festive lips and nails.

Glossybox 2014 December Subscription Box takes care of skin, hair, and hands!

Ritual Cosmetics Miracle Scrub in Ginseng & Ginko Biloba (full size, retails for $17):  I am so bad about wearing gloves…my hands always need a serious intervention. This is a scrub for hands (too fragranced for your face!) that does a wonderful job of leaving them soft and lightly scented.

Toni & Guy Prep Leave-In Conditioner (full size, retails for $17):  I have loved this conditioner for years because it gets rid of frizz and still leaves my hair bouncy. Most leave-ins are too heavy for my fine hair, but this stuff is the bomb.

NUXE Masque Creme Fraiche de Beaute (full size, retails for $32):  This mask has the most beautiful citrus scent, one that is light enough to work for skin care. It’s really amazing for dry, dehydrated winter skin. Great for after long holiday flights, too!

Bellapierre Cosmetics Mineral Lipstick in Burlesque (full size, retails for $20):  I only recently discovered the awesomeness that is Bellapierre Cosmetics – I reviewed the 5-in-1 Mineral Foundation HERE and the Mineral Blush, Lipstick, and Nail Polish HERE. The lipstick has natural waxes and mineral pigments, iron oxides and antioxidants including Vitamin C and Vitamin E. It is a creamy, smooth, highly pigmented lipstick. Burlesque is a fuchsia pink, but don’t let that scare you – this is a very wearable, festive pink that is party perfect.

Ciate Mini Nail Polish in All Aglow ($8)  I love mini nail polishes, and this one just screams ‘holiday’.  All Aglow is a golden shimmer with flecks of red – major holiday glam over a matte black polish!

The December Glossybox is a winner. Four great full size products plus a super cute mini, with a combined value that is over $70 more than what you pay for it. Gift yourself one of these before they are all sold out!! – Lisa

Get some Goody hair accessories for the good girls on your list!

Goody Holiday Collection
My girls have been very, very good this year, so it only makes sense to put some Goody in their stockings!  They sent us a few items from the new Holiday Collection and these hair accessories are super cute.  The Holiday Collection features jewel tones that are fun and festive, and you can find all the items at Meijer.

Goody Holiday Collection Ouchless Black and Multiglitter Elastics

Goody Holiday Collection Ouchless Black and Multiglitter Elastics

Hair elastics are a basic item that every girl needs, and the Goody Holiday Collection features great sets with bonuses!  The Ouchless Black Elastics ($4.99) come with 30 black elastics that won’t snag or break hair, plus four jewel tone glitter elastics for some bling.  My girls like to use a black elastic to secure their hair, then layer with different multicolor elastics for style.  If your girl uses more multiglitter than black, just get the reverse set – Ouchless Multiglitter Elastics ($4.99) with a bonus four black elastics.

Goody Holiday Collection Ouchless Multiglitter Headwraps and Ribbon Elastics

Goody Holiday Collection Ouchless Multiglitter Headwraps and Ribbon Elastics

My youngest daughter is a fencer, so she needs headbands that keep her bangs out of her eyes, especially when wearing her fencing mask.  The Ouchless Multiglitter Headwraps ($3.99) do the job and don’t get all tangled up in her hair.  These are also a great choice for some color with updos and braids.  Another favorite are the Ouchless Ribbon Elastics.  Every night, I put my daughter’s wet hair in a braid and wrap the end with a Ouchless Ribbon Elastic.  The ribbon is strong enough to keep the braid in place as she sleeps, but soft enough not to crease her hair.  In the morning we take out the braid and she has beautiful waves that last all day.  Plus, she keeps a couple on her wrist like a bracelet, and uses them whenever she wants to put her hair back.

Goody Holiday Collection Purse Brush and FashioNow Flower Salon Clips

Goody Holiday Collection Purse Brush and FashioNow Flower Salon Clips

I just love the FashioNow Flower Salon Clips ($4.99)!  They are darling, and the colors are so cheerful.  Each clip comes with 5 bonus elastics so you can put in a ponytail then add the clip for style.  For a really neat gift, add in a matching jewel-toned Purse Brush ($4.99).  This little brush is the perfect size, and it comes with a bonus ribbon elastic.

Reward the good girls in your life with some Goody good stuff, for goodness sake!  These cute and cool accessories are just waiting for you at your local Meijers.  – Lisa

ECRU New York Acacia line review and giveaway

Over the last almost 3 months I haven’t been able to control a lot in my life. But happily I have been able to control what I’ve used on my hair. There are two different lines that I used exclusively for the last few months and I’m here to not only share ECRU New York with you but to offer a giveaway for my favorite product in the line.

In the summer ECRU New York sent some of their Acacia line of products. The shampoo and conditioner went right into my shower while the BB Protein Cream went on my vanity.

ECRU New York was created to “Treat and Perform”. Silk proteins are used in every product within the collection because they strengthen and improve the integrity of the hair.

What are Silk Proteins? According to ECRU they are the highest grade protein ingredients created from the hydrolysis of silk fibers. The inner part of silk is removed by this hydrolysis. It’s been used in high grade skincare for years but research found that these silk proteins formed a protective film that sealed the hair. The result is a hair cuticle with increased elasticity, beautiful shine and protection from damage.

The products I’ve been using are from the Acacia Protein Collection. They consist of a shampoo, conditioner, BB Cream, masque and oil. Today I bring you the shampoo, conditioner and BB cream.

ECRU New York Acacia Protein Shampoo and Conditioner are both safe for color treated hair, hair that has had processes done to it (like a keratin straightening), and are paraban free. The shampoo contains Acacia Collagen™, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Wheat Protein, Panthenol, and Sunflower Extract. It is extremely moisturizing and leaves my hair soft and shiny. It washes out easily even when I am just standing on one foot at my kitchen sink. The conditioner contains similar but enhanced ingredients, Acacia Collagen™, Wheat Amino Acids, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Wheat Protein, and Safflower Seed Oil, and leaves my hair feeling protected. One claim is that it helps mend split ends, I don’t agree or disagree with that statement since I haven’t seen proof of that in my own life. These two products keep my hair so well moisturized that I don’t notice split ends occuring.

The other product is one I mentioned in an Ipsy review since I received a travel size one in my last Ipsy bag. I was thrilled and started using it right away since I wasn’t able to go upstairs to get my full size one. This is the Acacia Protein BB Cream which is my favorite of these three products. This is a styling cream that is both lightweight and easy to use. I don’t notice fragrance in any of these products when I use them but if there is fragrance then it’s just light and refreshing. The Protein BB Cream contains Acacia Collagen™, Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, Silk Amino Acids, Jojoba Oil and Monoi Oil. These excellent ingredients are what makes this BB Cream so special. I like to use this on my towel dried hair prior to blow drying. I can comb through my hair with ease and this is helping protect it from the heat of my appliances.

We were sent an extra ECRU New York Protein BB Cream and are happy to have this as a giveaway for one of our readers. I’m sure you’ll love it as much as I do since I know we all care so much about the way our hair looks.  The giveaway is open for US and Canada only through 11/15/14.  — Marcia
