This morning I woke up late. I don’t mean 10 minutes late. I don’t mean one too many taps on the snooze button late. I mean an entire 45 minutes LATE. You know how it goes – getting sleepy kids up and ready, then stepping in who knows what…something that one of the pets threw up (you hope it’s vomit because any alternative you can conjure up is waaay worse), forgetting your phone and having to run back inside, all while knowing there is a meeting starting without you and YOUR BOSS IS THERE WONDERING WHERE YOU ARE. I am almost breaking into a rash just thinking about it. samples
We’re here to introduce you to these TSA Mini Miracles sets of ColorProof’s top selling products. We were thrilled to receive these for review knowing what a great brand ColorProof is. These are essential for keeping your color stay true during your travels just as ColorProof keeps your color true in your everyday life. As always, ColorProof products are 100% vegan, gluten-free and sulfate and salt-free. If you want the ultimate overperformer for you life, these are perfect for you.
Marcia’s hair needs taming
My choice of the Jet Set travel kits is CRAZY SMOOTH. I was very excited to have a chance to try out ColorProof since Lisa has always raved about the line and I love Lisa’s hair. The CrazySmooth® System seemed perfect for me and it turned out to be just that.
The JetSet travel kit ($19.99) is the perfect way to try out ColorProof. With 3 products in the set I got the chance to test the CrazySmooth® Anti-Frizz Shampoo, CrazySmooth® Anti-Frizz Condition, and PlushLocks® Leave-In Smooth (2 oz each).
CrazySmooth® is 100% vegan and perfect for my keratin treated hair. There are no sulfates, salts or gluten in these three 100% vegan formula products. When you both color treat your hair and have a treatment in it you need to be careful which products you use so that the money you’ve spent isn’t washed down the drain.
ColorProof Crazy Smooth Anti-Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner use a proprietary blend of exclusive oils including Camellia Oil from Japan and Abyssinian Oil from Africa, along with seaweed and shea butter. They have a slight fragrance but not one that’s noticeable after using. The reason I like these includes how they not only make my hair smooth but also incredibly shiny. I love seeing less frizz and so much shine.
The follow up product is their PlushLocks® Leave-In Smooth which I’ve used with ColorProof products and with other lines. I smooth a quarter size blob through my shoulder length hair and wet brush it. My hair isn’t snarled and it’s easy to brush through. The beauty is in the aftermath when my hair is dry and has some volume. Even though I have a keratin treatment I don’t want flat hair. I want volume without frizz and that’s what I get. This too has the same ingredients as the shampoo and conditioner so I’m getting heat and color protection. My only (mini) complaint about this is the bottle which I can’t squeeze. It’s made of very sturdy, recyclable plastic and is resistant to my strength so I have to open it, turn it upside down, and bounce some out. Right now it’s not a problem though I do worry about it when I am close to the end. If that’s the only complaint then I can surely live with this.
Lisa’s hair needs moisture
My choice of the Jet Set travel kits is SUPER RICH. It’s a little embarrassing to admit how excited I was to try this travel kit…the ColorProof HardCore Epic Hold Hairspray is my favorite hairspray of all time, so I just knew I wouldn’t be disappointed with the SuperRich® set.
The SuperRich® JetSet travel kit ($19.99) has three products that will satisfy really thirsty hair: SuperRich® Moisture Shampoo 2 oz., SuperRich® Moisture Condition 2 oz., and DeepQuench® Moisture Masque 1.38 oz.
My hair is fine, although I have a ton of it. It’s also long, about mid-back, and while I typically let it air dry I also often heat style it into curls or else super straight. You know what that means – ends that are dry as a desert.
The SuperRich® Moisture Shampoo is very gentle and goes easy on my color treated hair. The lather is thick and velvety, and here’s a fun fact – it’s also terrific as a body wash. How perfect is that when you are traveling and space is at a premium? It leaves hair soft, shiny, and full of body, even without a conditioner (yup I am a little crazy, I tried it that way too). It’s 100% vegan, gluten-free and sulfate and salt free, so you know it keeps hair color looking the best possible.
The SuperRich® Moisture Conditioner is great – it really treats my ends and gives me lots of shine. When I use these two together I get ‘floaty’ hair – it feels amazing and has tons of bounce and body.
Sometimes, though, I need CRAZY moisture – like after a few days of swimming in a pool or the ocean. That’s when I pull out the big guns.
DeepQuench® Moisture Masque is everything super thirsty hair needs, even if your hair is extremely fine. It injects tons of moisture into hair without coating it and weighing it down. I put this on the bottom half of my hair after shampooing and leave it on as long as possible, two minutes at least. Wow does it do a fantastic job! Soft, swingy, shiny, healthy hair that really holds a curl. Once again, ColorProof impresses the heck out of me. I’ve got my travel set – now I need all three products in full size.
Whether you are a JetSetter or a stay at home person, these sets are great ways to try out the ColorProof professional line. ColorProof products are sold mostly at salons though you can find them at Sleek Hair, and in Beauty Brands stores. Use the salon locator to find ColorProof locally.

The website Truth in Aging carries an amazing amount of products that will help us as we go through the aging process. You can count on them for over 20 brands and one of their newest is Truth Vitality which is a line of products especially designed for women with fine hair or women with thinning hair, those who’d simply like more voluminous hair on their head or eyebrows. We were sent a few products to see if it helped our aging heads.
What does your shower drain look like? It is a messy tangle of hair?? I shudder when I see mine…I can’t believe I am losing that much hair every time I shampoo and condition. Truth Vitality Shampoo and Conditioner promised me less shedding, so I was more than happy to give them a whirl.
It’s funny, for hair products that promise volume the formulas are certainly on the thin side…but they do deliver every promise.
Their nourishing formulas are infused with a unique copper peptide complex to encourage hair growth, as well as powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and extracts to rebuild struggling strands from the inside out.
The True Volume Shampoo’s formula is loaded with beneficial ingredients to fight thinning hair, increase volume and strength, and stimulate new hair growth, including copper peptides, caffeine, ferulic acid, vitamin A, and beta carotene.
Our conditioner offers a unique combination of emu oil and copper peptides to stimulate the hair follicles, increasing their size and encouraging hair growth. There’s also caffeine, beta-sitosterol, Aspen bark extract, and macadamia nut oil to add strength, volume, and shine.
I do see less hair in my drain so I know I am shedding less as I use the True Volume Shampoo and Conditioner. My hair feels very soft, floaty, and full. It’s shiny too! Volume hair products often leave my hair feeling coated, but these don’t – my fine hair loves them.
These two hair products retail for $64, but right now I see them on the Truth in Aging website as a duo for $54.40.
If you have fine or thinning hair, you will love this sulfate/silicone/paraben-free duo. If you want to address hair loss, I think this is an excellent option.
BROW EMPOWER from Truth Vitality was created for people just like me. I never had to worry about my brows and gave them little thought. I’d pluck to keep strays away but they were full and I basically ignored them. Along came age and illness and my eyebrows are no longer what they were.
Brow Empower ($39) is a lightweight gel that you can apply day or night. It’s a light brown serum that will dry down so that you can apply eyebrow makeup over it. This stimulates healthy growth using a blend of copper peptides, vitamin B5, and emu oil. Copper peptides increase the size of hair follicles and stimulate new hair growth while the vitamin B5 and emu oil gently condition and smooth the hair strands.
The applicator of Brow Empower is a new technology and can break easily so you need to use some TLC with it. I admit that I dropped mine and it doesn’t work properly but I’m still using the product. I use a cotton swab to get the product and apply it to my brows that way. I’ll often then use the applicator to smooth it onto my brows.
Truth Vitality added a unique touch to this product. There is a small pin like tool that helps you keep the applicator top free from product. If it starts to clog up just wipe the metallic tip and orifice with a soft cloth or tissues and insert the pin. It clears it easily. I wish other products had thought to include something like this.
Something I found very interesting is that Truth in Aging has a community of testers so this and the other products in the Truth Vitality line have been tested and reviewed by them. I’ve started to see some brow growth and am finding new hairs. It’s so easy to use that I’ll continue this and hope that I can eventually see a fuller brow.

When AQUIS Towels came calling the Beauty Info Zone ladies came running. This is the premier brand of hair towels and we were excited to be able to use their newest towels. There are so many types of towels from AQUIS including body towels that this is only the tip of the iceberg. Today we are all about their hair towels.
Choose the best for your hair
AQUIS comes in formats to suit different hairstyles and lifestyles. There are basically three choices.
Length: Long towels are for long hair, otherwise choose regular.
Fabric: Lisse Luxe is best for delicate hair and curls, Waffle Luxe is best for thick hair and lots of it.
Format: Turbans are super convenient and stay on better. Plus there is no temptation to rub your hair (old habits die hard).
Our towels are also light and easy to tie, usually dry hair slightly faster.
No one asks for frizz but everyone should ask for AQUIS!
Lisa and her Lisse Luxe Hair Turban: I use a hair turban every single time I shampoo. My hair is long, but a regular towel is just TOO MUCH to wrap my hair in…it falls off my head within minutes. Hair turbans keep my wet hair safely in place and good ones do double duty by also reducing my dry time.
I love, love, love the AQUIS Lisse Luxe Hair Turban ($30). First, it comes in a super cute plastic pouch that is perfect for travel. I am so addicted to hair turbans that I can’t go without on vacation! It has a button and fastening loop to keep the turban in place and hair out of my face. I even use this when I am doing a facial mask or applying my makeup.
The best part, though, is how well it absorbs water. The turban is made with Aquitex, which is soft and comfy and incredibly absorbent. This saves my hair from heat styling time, resulting in wonderful side effects like better hair health, less frizz, and less split ends. I love my AQUIS Lisse Luxe Hair Turban so much that I only have one complaint – I need more because my daughters keep stealing it!!
Marcia and her Lisse Luxe Towel:
I introduced my Aquis Lisse Luxe Towel on my Frizz Busters post the other day. I too use mine every time I wash my shoulder length hair. I fold it turban style and it wicks out the wet. I save so much time drying my hair because of the efficiency of this Aquis Towel.
The one I have is the full size Lisse Luxe towel which comes in several colors. Mine is a chevron weave and if that doesn’t suit you just pick from Desert Rose, Ivory White, or Cloudberry. The Chevron is perfect for my gray and white bathroom!
This particular towel is 19 X 42 in (50 X 107 CM) which gives it plenty of room to wrap my hair and stay wrapped. I leave it on for 5-10 minutes while I’m brushing teeth, taking vitamins, prepping my skin with moisturizer. When I remove it my hair isn’t wet wet anymore, it’s damp but not damaged. Rubbing a towel on your head is not good for your hair so it’s important that the water gets wicked away without pressure.
I’ve owned Aquis towels for years and years. As soon as I first learned about the brand I went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to purchase one. My previous one has gone on many vacations with me so it’s seen a lot of good times but when I look at the new one I know it’s time to put my previous one away.
The size and feel of the Lisse Luxe is superb. I know this is going to sound silly but I have a phobia about hair clinging to towels and items (this is coming from the mother of a shedding dog). Lisse Luxe doesn’t hold onto those hairs so I don’t have to get the shivers picking them off. A small thing but important to me.
Whether you are a fan of the Turban or the Hair Towel, you are in for a treat. At $30 each they may seem expensive at first but you’ll get so many years of use from these that they’ll practically paying you to use them. The Aquis website has free shipping at $30 which is a bonus. Aquis Hair Turban is also newly available at Sephora.com to make your shopping even easier.

Frizz isn’t pretty.
Frizz doesn’t make me happy.
Frizz needs to be busted.
Even the women in the new Ghostbusters movie appear to have frizz. Not a pretty sight. So what do we do? We find products that help us tame the frizz and that’s what today is all about.
Aquis Towels have been around for at least 20 years but they’ve changed over time. I remember buying my first one and being amazed at the difference using this towel on my hair. When drying your hair, using friction causes frizz. With an Aquis towel or turban you allow the water to wick out of your hair leaving it easier to to style without frizz. My newest one was sent by Aquis and I am in love with it. Sunday, July 10th I’ll be showing more pictures and telling you more about this towel but I can assure you that you need one of their towels in your life.
BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT ACAI SMOOTHING SERUM and THERMAL STRAIGHTENING BALM
After towel drying my hair I turn to serum, balms and other products to be able to even get a wet brush or wide tooth comb through my hair. I’ve used the Brazilian Blowout Acai line on and off for years. I get a keratin treatment about every 8 months so my hair is basically straight and fends for itself most of the time with frizz. But if I forget to use product I’m lucky to make it through one day let alone several. The Thermal Straightening Balm is used when I blow dry my hair since it locks out moisture. The Smoothing Serum is a multi-tasker. Not only is it great for blow drying and flat ironing but it’s recommended for use when you go swimming. Wet your hair and smooth some of the serum in to protect your hair from chlorine and salt. You don’t need to have a keratin treatment to use these great products, they are great for everyone.
FRIZZ NOURISHING STYLING CREAM and STRAIGHT
Unless I’m testing a new line I like to switch up the products I use so I’m always going back to Living Proof. Everything I’ve tried from them has been excellent. My go-to line is the No Frizz one. Their Nourishing Styling Cream is just the thing to stop frizz. As they say “weightlessly blocks humidity, smoothes and conditions, no heavy silicones or oils”. If you believe in frizz busting this is one of my favorites. After buying it the first time I quickly bought a second during a holiday special. Straight Style|Lab is a spray that I use when I wash my hair. I apply the Nourishing Styling Cream otherwise I can’t comb through my hair. Then I spray this on in sections to seal. This can be used on wet or dry hair but it’s best used before you heat style.
DERMORGANIC LEAVE-IN TREATMENT AND FAST DRY SHAPING SPRAY
I’m a huge fan of DermOrganic products. The first time I used them they were sent to me but I’ve since purchased several of the products. The Leave-In Treatment is a repurchase for me. This is a wonderful leave-in that is so amazingly light that you’d almost never know it was in your hair. But you do know because it does such a great job adding softness, shine, thermal protection, and controlling frizz. It’s made with Argan Oil of Morocco. While it’s not advertised as a frizz buster, it definitely works that way for me.
Fast Dry Shaping Spray is a great lightweight spray even though the name says Plus Hold. I hate helmet hair and I only use a spray on days that are very important style wise (like my niece’s upcoming outdoor wedding). I included this since it does a good job of allowing me to brush through my hair yet controlling it and keeping frizz from taking over. It’s vegan and there is no: animal testing, artificial preservatives, sulfates, gluten, sodium or chloride, salt, parabens, MEA, DEA or dyes. Plus it has a pleasant fragrance unlike so many sprays I’ve tried.
These are the products on my vanity, what do you use your war against frizz? — Marcia

For those of us with fine and/or thinning hair, it can be quite a challenge to find a solution that is botanically based and not full of chemicals. Recently I have been testing VoluMedic, an all-natural system for fine/thinning hair that works for both men and women.
The reason we experience hair loss is because our hair growth cycle is out of balance. That imbalance results in less hair during the anagen or growth stage, and a bigger number of telegen or degenerating hairs. The VoluMedic System not only slows this process down, it can even reverse it – again, for both men and women! Some highlights:
- Cleanses and stimulates the flow of nutrients to the scalp
- Removes DHT build-up
- Increases percentage of hair follicles in the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle
- Thickens and adds body to thin, fine, limp hair
- Eliminates the use of aggressive, sulfate cleansers, protecting the scalp and hair color
- It’s a simple, flexible system
- Uses no paraben preservatives
- Contains no dyes or synthetic fragrances
- Is formulated gluten-free
The most innovative active ingredient in VoluMedic products is Pisum Sativum, a sustainable phytonutrient. Swiss studies showed significantly increased Anagen and decreased Telogen follicles on a mixed panel of men & women who used our system. 85% of users showed a 78% average increase in the Anagen / Telogen follicle growth ratio after 90 days use.
Whether you suffer from thinning hair or hair loss due to heredity, medical conditions, or simply from aging, VoluMedic can work for you – and it’s an easy, 3-step system.
The first step is to shampoo with the VoluMedic Shampoo. This shampoo smells minty and fresh, and leaves hair feeling clean but not stripped since it doesn’t contain any sulfates. It does, however, get rid of sebum and build up, which clogs hair follicles.
- Cleans and builds body without sulfate stripping of vital nutrients or hair color
- Helps eliminates sebum and styling build-up at the follicle
- Invigorates the scalp
- Compatible with keratin straightening systems.
As a result, it gives hair a lot more oomph and volume.
The second step is to condition with the VoluMedic Thickening Conditioner. This also has a fresh, minty scent. It strengthens hair and adds even more body.
- Thickens each hair shaft for added body
- Smooths and protects the surface of the hair
- Adds life to fine or thinning hair
- Stimulates the scalp
After rinsing and towel drying hair, there’s just one more step toward a thicker, fuller ‘do.
While the shampoo and conditioner keep hair healthy and prep the scalp, the Scalp Stimulator does the bulk of the work. For some reason I was expecting this to be a foam, but it’s actually a liquid spray that is applied directly onto your scalp. Just massage in with your fingers, then enjoy the tingling sensation for about a minute before styling. That sensation means it’s working, dissolving excess sebum and promoting a healthy scalp. VoluMedic says this sensation can last for up to 3o minutes, but it only lasts for a few minutes on me and isn’t unpleasant at all.
The Scalp Stimulator gives some immediate gratification, making hair full and thick right away.
- Helps increase the flow of nutrients for healthy hair
- Promotes the Anagen, productive phase of the hair cycle
- Helps clear clogged hair follicles
- Safe and effective, stimulating formula
- Hair color safe
- Contains no paraben preservatives, artificial dyes or fragrances
Basically, the VoluMedic Scalp Stimulator makes your hair thick and full through creating an awesome anagen follicle stage and getting rid of excess sebum that inhibits hair growth. Like the Shampoo and Conditioner, the VoluMedic Scalp Stimulator has no sulfates, parabens, artificial fragrance or dyes. All VoluMedic formulas are also safe for color-treated hair.
If you – or your significant other – has fine or thinning hair, give VoluMedic a try! You can find this line at Sally Beauty stores and through their website. The 30 day Starter Kit is only $23, so why not give it a shot? – Lisa

We are a confusing bunch around here. Last week for Top Ten Beauty we talked about hair and this week for Makeup Wars we are also talking about hair. I’m actually glad because I mixed them up and now I get to add more hair products that I use all the time.
First thing to know about me is that I get my hair professionally straightened. I recently had another Brazilian Blowout procedure done, at least my 6th one. At the present time I’m only using the Acai line made by Brazilian Blowout but that will change in about a month. Prior to that I was using Pai-Shau and Living Proof. There are two things that you need to make sure are absent from your hair products whenever you have it straightened: they must be sulfate-free and have no sodium chloride. The sodium pulls the straightening out of your hair so that it doesn’t last. I watch for that in all products I use but especially during the first 6 weeks after a treatment.
Brazilian Blowout Acai products are specially formulated for a keratin treatment. They are the aftercare regimen developed to extend the life of your Brazilian Blowout Professional Smoothing Treatment. Even if you have another brand of treatment done, I’d still recommend these products since they do the job they are formulated to do: keep your hair straight, frizz free, smooth and silky looking.
Both the shampoo and conditioner are products I’d use 365 days a year. I find they keep my hair from drying out. My hair retains moisture because they contain smoothing proteins that fortify and seal the cuticle.
The conditioner provides UVA/UVB protection and is safe for color-treated hair. This is a mild everyday conditioner that glides through my hair.
All the Brazilian Blowout Acai products have a light citrus fragrance that doesn’t linger but I’d love it if it did since it’s so pleasant.
The Brazilian Blowout Acai Deep Conditioning Masque is to be used approximately once a week. My hair is shorter now than when I first started having my hair straightened so I find I only need this about every 10 days. My hairdresser swears by the Deep Conditioning Masque and uses it instead of the conditioner. She has beautiful thick hair that always looks lustrous and healthy. This masque not only smoothes and conditions, it promotes shine while also infusing moisture in your hair. The masque is what’s going to help with the longevity of a keratin treatment.
Brazilian Blowout has created several products to help style your hair. My favorite of these is the Acai Daily Smoothing Serum. I always have to put in a styling product before I brush through my wet hair and this one is great. It’s clear and not too thick, has that luscious citrus scent, and helps detangle my wet hair. This is what keeps my hair looking shiny and fights the humidity.
I’ve repurchased these products over and over. I use Amazon since I save a bundle over what my hair salon sells it for. My Deep Conditioning Masque is the newest of my replacement products so it has the new packaging.
Another brand that I’m crazy about is Living Proof. I use the
FRIZZ line which is the No Frizz line. Sephora had several samples available of Living Proof so I took advantage of those to see what I thought of the line. Once I got the samples of No Frizz Shampoo and Conditioner, I was sold. Living Proof is available at Ulta, Sephora and Amazon but I find that the prices on Amazon are much better so that’s where my replacements will come from. And I will replace these products since they’ve giving me living proof that they work well.
Both Living Proof FRIZZ shampoo and conditioner sold me when I saw that they were color safe, sulfate-free, and contained no heavy silicones or oils. I can add an oil I like when styling but that’s my choice. “The first new anti-frizz technology in over 30 years, it does what silicones can’t; eliminate frizz by blocking humidity-without weighing hair down.” This shampoo’s key ingredient is PolyfluoroEster which creates an invisible shield on the hair to lock in moisture-proof smoothness and repel dirt and oil, so you can go longer between washes to break the frizz and damage cycle.
I chose to buy Living Proof No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream as the product to use after washing my hair. I always need something to comb through so I’ll be tangle free. While it’s more expensive than their
Frizz Leave In Conditioner, it has more benefits.
No Frizz derives performance from Living Proof’s “miracle molecule,” PolyfluoroEster, to create a weightless shield on hair that blocks humidity absorption, smooths the cuticle, and repels dirt. The PolyfluoroEster shield is established over the first five uses of the No Frizz regimen, so it becomes stronger, the longer you use it—and can be maintained with consistent use of No Frizz products.
That’s the reason I chose the Nourishing Styling Cream. I need so little that it doesn’t matter that it’s a little more money. Plus it really works. In the winter when I knew I was coming towards the end of my treatment, this is what kept my hair from misbehaving.
In the future I’ll be exploring more from Living Proof. I actually have a travel set of A Perfect Day that I will break into in the future. Until then I plan to continue my
