Soft and smooth hair with Organix Penetrating Oils

I know, I know, putting oil into freshly washed hair seems counter intuitive…but it’s a wonderful thing when you use Organix Penetrating Oils ($8).

Organix Penetrating Oils

Organix Penetrating Oils

Organix sent the BIZ two of the Penetrating Oils (previously called Dry Styling Oils); I tried both the Hydrating Macadamia Oil and the Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Oil.  In general, both make hair extremely soft and frizz-free.  The keratin in the oils strengthens hair and make it wonderfully shiny.  Either one works for any type of hair from super dry to super oily. organix awapuhi penetrating oil

The top photo is the new packaging – my samples are in the older packaging.  New face, same product!  The Repairing Awapuhi Ginger Oil smells wonderful.  This is the one to choose if you use a lot of heated styling tools on your hair.   Just apply about a nickel size of oil to towel dried hair then style as usual.

The Hydrating Macadamia Penetrating Oil is the one to choose if you have very dry ends or overly processed hair.  It really puts moisture back in without weighing down fine hair.  It is also terrific on dry hair.  Just a few drops  smooths my hair like crazy.

I am completely sold on the Penetrating Oils.  My hair is very, very happy when I use them!

And speaking of dry oils…be sure to also check out the Moroccan Argan Oil Dry Body Oil ($6).  I use dry body oil every morning after I shower, and this is one of my favorites.

Two beautiful hair care bargains: Marc Anthony Moisture Gloss and Pro Finish Ultimate Hold Hair Spray

Lately I have been into ‘updos’, braiding my hair, putting it in a bun, or at the very least curling it. For Christmas, my mom got me The Perfecter (I’m sure you have seen the infomercial!) and that has made curling my hair extremely easy. While it’s probably best for people with short hair, for my long layered hair it gives me a smooth, softly curled look in about 3 minutes. To assist in my hair styling adventures I experiment a lot with different hair care products and some of my favorites were sent by Marc Anthony. Marc Anthony is a very reasonably priced hair care line that you can find online here or at drugstore.com, and it is also easily found at stores like Ulta and Walgreens.

Moisture Gloss

Marc Anthony Moisture Gloss Daily Drops

Moisture Gloss

Moisture Gloss Daily Drops

The product that really first defined the Marc Anthony line is the Moisture Gloss Daily Drops ($7.99). Oh my, talk about getting yourself some shiny hair!! This has micro-refined silicones that actually penetrate the hair shaft instead of just sitting on top of it. It only takes a few drops for my mid-back length hair so the price is right and a bottle lasts a very long time.

Moisture Gloss

What Moisture Gloss Daily Drops can do for you!

I massage a few drops into my damp, towel-dried hair and I have no static and no tangles. I end up with super smooth, super shiny, and completely frizz-free hair. I also use a few drops on my dry second day hair to freshen it up without weighing it down.  Moisture Gloss Daily Drops is an excellent product that is also a fantastic bargain.

Pro Finish Hairspray

Pro Finish Hairspray

Another big favorite of mine is the Marc Anthony Pro Finish Ultimate Hold Hair Spray ($7.99). I like hair spray that holds my curl, but doesn’t leave my hair stiff or crunchy. This is a fabulous hair spray that truly does the job. It keeps my curls, yet my hair is still touchable and soft. Whether I use a little or a lot, Pro Finish Ultimate Hold Hair Spray never gives me flaky hair.  t does have a bit of a scent, but it’s pleasant and it quickly dissipates.

Marc Anthony has some really terrific hair products at bargain prices. Pick these up the next time you see them at the store, you won’t be sorry.  - Lisa

Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask by Nelson j Beverly Hills

Super soft, floaty hair that smells of delicious coconut…that is what I was envisioning when Nelson j Beverly Hills sent the BIZ their newly launched deep conditioner, the Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask ($20).  Nelson j is the fascinating haircare line created by celebrity colorist Nelson Chan, who also has a famous hair salon in Los Angeles.  If you read Allure or InStyle you probably recognize the name because they regularly feature Nelson and his salon. Nelson is known for eco-friendly products, natural and non-toxic hair coloring, formaldehyde-free Brazilian straightening treatments and fantastic haircuts.

Nelson j

Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask comes in three all natural scents:  coconut, pomegranate, and rosemary mint. I tried the coconut, and the scent is DIVINE. It’s a deep, rich coconut that lasts on my hair so I keep sneaking sniffs of it all day long.  The hair mask is a 100% argan-oil based, deep conditioning treatment that truly hydrates and moisturizes even the most dry and damaged hair.
I use it a few different ways, depending on how much time I have. If I can, I like to put this on towel dried hair then wrap it back up, leaving it on for about 20 minutes before rinsing. The results are amazing. If I don’t have time, I use it as a regular conditioner, putting it on in the shower after shampooing then rinsing after a minute or two. Just this gives me wonderfully soft, scented, beautiful hair that doesn’t need any styling products.
NelsonJ

the deliciously coconut scented hair mask

I haven’t tried this next technique yet, but I will for sure this summer: To protect hair from chlorine and salt water damage, apply the mask before swimming onto damp hair from root to ends, without rinsing. Works on all hair types, especially dry, damaged hair.

The main ingredients in this phenomenal hair mask include argan, citrus and peppermint oils. It has NO sulfates, parabens, or artificial fragrances. It’s really perfect for cool, dry weather because it is such marvelous hydration.

If you have dry, color-treated, or damaged hair, you will want to check this out. The Argan Oil 7 Moisture Healing Mask is an outrageously terrific hair mask that should be in your shower.  - Lisa

Seven tips for super sexy straightened hair

(This post is brought to you by Beauty Info Zone in conjunction with Argos)

It seems inevitable…those with straight hair want curls and those with waves want straight hair. If you want to create straight hair with volume and movement, this post is for you!
Here are seven tips for beautifully straightened hair that looks natural and flattering.
1.  Be sure to clean your flat iron! Styling products can collect on the iron and compromise the straightening efficacy of the plates.
2.  It may seem like common sense but make sure you hair is completely dry before flat ironing. Otherwise the heat will damage hair by drying it out or even scorching it.
3.  Divide your hair into sections first and then flat iron UP – go from as close to the root as you can get to the end of the section. Ironing up and out from the scalp will give you the absolute best body and volume.
4.  Use a great hair straightening tool! Argos carries some of the top flat irons available, here are a few options:
Babyliss Salon Control 235

Babyliss Salon Control 235

Babyliss Boutique Salon Control 235 Hair Straightener This one has a super fast heat up, as well as 12 different heat settings from which to choose.

Babyliss Pro 235

Babyliss Pro 235

Babyliss Pro 235 Smooth Hair Straightener This option has longer, tourmaline ceramic plates that are perfect for a frizz-free finish.

Babyliss Ceramic 235

Babyliss Ceramic 235

Babyliss Smooth Ceramic 235 Hair Straightener  This flat iron has rounded housing, which means you can straighten your hair OR create curls – pretty ingenious.

5.  Use the right size flat iron for your hair. Shorter or very fine hair does better with smaller irons that have shorter plates. Longer or very thick hair works best with larger irons that have longer plates.

6.  Use the right amount of heat. For very fine hair, you want about 250 degrees, no hotter than 300. Medium hair needs a temperature in the 300 – 350 range and you can go up to 400 degrees for very thick hair.

Arganesse Hair Treatment is wonderful for heat styling

7.  Use the right styling products to protect your hair from heat damage. Some of my favorites include  ArganesseMoroccanoil, and  Unite U Luxury Oil.

Follow these seven tips and you will have beautiful, swingy, volumized straight hair.

And when you want to switch up the straight look, just go for some serious beach waves with the Babyliss Wave Envy Barrel Hair Waver!  - Lisa

Long and Strong hair with Zero Frizz thanks to Angelo David

I am a huge fan of Angelo David, one of the premier hair stylists in New York. He is a true artist who is known for being able to create ‘dream hair’ for every single client.

While I can only dream of being his client right now, I can still use his products to get some Angelo David magic in my hair styling routine.

Angelo David

Angelo David

I have used his VOL Spray (previously named Premier Volume Spray) for over a year now and it never lets me – or my hair! – down. Needless to say, I was pretty thrilled when he sent the BIZ a few more of his hair products to try.

Zero

Zero Frizz Control

Zero

Zero Frizz Control

Zero Frizz Control ($19.50)  is a hair cream that is applied to wet hair before drying.  I tend to have problems with frizz in humid weather, as well as fly-away, static hair during colder months. But when I use this cream, my hair is super smooth, shiny, and static-free but not weighed down. This is a beautiful lightweight hair cream that really works.

Zero

love the air-free pump!

And the packaging is perfect. Two pumps are just the right amount for my hair, but mine is pretty long, about mid-back.

Another great product is Angelo David’s Long & Strong Detangler ($17.50).

Long

Long & Strong Detangler

Long

strengthens and smooths!

The Long & Strong Detangler is a spray-on conditioner that is applied to wet hair. I spray this on after towel drying my hair but before combing it out. It keeps my hair looking healthy and it minimizes fall out during combing. Three different ingredients do wonders for long locks – green tea extract provides protection, horsetail extract provides shine, and aloe extract provides smoothness. Used together the Long & Strong Detangler and the Zero Frizz Control give me really great hair days!

If you aren’t able to go to New York for an appointment with the man himself, do the next best thing and get some of his terrific hair products. You can find them online at www.angelodavid.com/store .  - Lisa

Checking out the future of beauty with the From the Lab September box

From the Lab is a wonderfully unique concept in beauty boxes. Each month you get between 1 and 3 plainly packaged skin care, color cosmetics, or hair products that haven’t even arrived in stores yet…so you really are checking out the future of beauty today.

Checking out the future of beauty...today

Checking out the future of beauty…today

I previously reviewed the Body Serum No. 580 that was in August’s box, you can check out my review HERE. When From the Lab sent their September box for review, I was extremely excited…

The pink box gets me all giddy

The pink box gets me all giddy

And then I saw that it was a hair product. Oh my. I have been testing lots of hair products lately and have made some truly amazing finds…I was rather skeptical that this particular hair mask would do much of anything that my other favorite hair products don’t already do.

Hair Mask

Hair Mask No. 718.  We don’t know what the name will be when it hits the stores.

Plus, it’s a hair mask…which means one more step. I already shampoo, condition and use styling products. Do I really want to do even more?? My hair is long and I have a lot of it, but it’s extremely fine so hair masks are usually far too heavy for it. Plus I am impatient. I don’t like sitting around with gunk on my hair. Despite the fact this mask promised to treat my scalp along with my hair and promised to put an end to my bad hair days, the future of beauty for September wasn’t looking promising to me.

Good question!

Good question!

In the name of research, and in the name of the future of beauty, I tried Hair Mask No. 718.  (I know, I know, my life is SO tough!)

Hair Mask

Hair Mask No. 718

Hair Mask

the thick and creamy Hair Mask

First, it wasn’t nearly as inconvenient to use as I had imagined. I woke up, quickly put a thick layer on my dry hair from scalp to ends, then went about my morning ritual of brushing teeth etc. while my shower water warmed up. By the time I got into the shower the mask had been on for the required ten minutes. It added maybe one minute to my morning routine.

I quickly rinsed my hair clean, then shampooed and conditioned as usual. I didn’t change anything else regarding my normal hair products except for the addition of this mask.

And guess what? It gave me a freaking amazing hair day.

My hair was smooth, shiny, and soft. The biggest difference though was the volume. Like I said, my hair is fine and long, so getting volume at the crown and around my part is never easy. I didn’t even have to work at it after using this mask! The body and volume were simply incredible. And every time I use it, I get the same results. I am completely sold.  From the Lab recommends using the mask twice a week.

From the Lab says this about Hair Mask No. 718:  Hair Mask No. 718 nourishes your scalp with a powerful anti-aging complex featuring stem cells from the Uttwiler Spätlauber, an incredibly rare apple known for its longevity. Combining this advanced skin care with a biomimetic peptide and customized polymers, Hair Mask No. 718 provides focused conditioning, glide, and improved combability to both wet and dry hair without depositing the build-up that can weigh down your locks. And the addition of trusted ingredients, such as provitamin B5 and natural oils, adds softness and shine while protecting your hair.

Here’s what I say: Yes, a rare Swiss apple can put an end to bad hair days. The really fantastic news is that From the Lab subscribers can order even more of monthly products they love…although this hair mask is so awesome I’ll bet they run out of it quickly.

From the Lab is still running their special, a monthly membership for only $19.95 a month plus S&H, $10 off their regular price. Now is the perfect time to invest in the future of beauty.  - Lisa
