March’s Glossybox had the best surprise in it

The reason I love subscriptions like Glossybox is because you never know what you are going to find. There are always surprises of some kind but this month when Glossybox sent the March edition to us for review I found the best surprise in it. I know that all the boxes contained something similar but it was like they had read my mind and found a perfect item for my lifestyle.

March 2014 Glossybox

March 2014 Glossybox

Inside this month’s box were 3 deluxe samples, 2 full size items and the bonus item – an Alex and Ani Charm Bangle. Now from my past reviews you know I love jewelry, especially items I can wear to work. Kids (of all ages) notice what their teachers and mentors wear even if they don’t comment on it. This Alex and Ani bracelet means a lot to me because of the way I feel about the world in general. I don’t want to get all gushy on you but this really made me feel wonderful.

Alex and Ani Charm Bangle

Alex and Ani Charm Bangle

“A majestic creature that embodies grace and beauty, a swan is a powerful symblol of love. Swans epitomize affectionate connection, as they typically created lasting bonds and mate for life. Embrace the devoted energy of this migratory being with the Swan Charm as encouragemnt to glide through life with an open heart.” – Alex and Ani

Along with the bonus bracelet each box received a different Alex and Ani product in Scent 7. The one I received is a Soap Bar in Scent 7 (full size $14) which symbolizes ENERGY. It’s a strongly scented bar containing shea butter and coconut oil. “Invigorate your senses and lift your spirit with each use.” These two products speak to me and the way I view the world so they are the highlights of this subscription box.

The deluxe samples are all products I’m looking forward to using. As you must know by now I love hair products so having an Alterna Haircare product, Bamboo Volume Plumping Strand Expand, in the box is perfect for me. I complain about the lack of volume that my hair has but if I use the right products like this Alterna Haircare one, I get fullness and beautiful looks. This .85 fl oz product is the perfect size for travel or for discovering if this works. (Full size 4 oz is $22; value of this is about $5)

Deluxe minis from Glossybox: Sisley, Nails Inc, Alterna and Etre Belle

Sisley, Nails Inc, Alterna and Etre Belle

There’s a luxurious Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask sample (full size is $158/2.1 oz; value of .38 oz sample is about $26) is the first mask that Sisley Paris has created with anti-aging active ingredients. It’s rich in trace elements, vitamins and plants extracts. I always feel special using a product from Sisley and a mask is a wonderful product for an at-home spa day.

Sisley Paris Black Rose Cream Mask

Etre Belle Cosmetics is a new brand for me so finding this Liplift Peel brought a smile to my lips. Liplift Peel is a gentle exfoliator for lips to be used about once a week. It just takes 2 minutes – the first minute is using the exfoliator in a circular motion on the lip area, the second minute is letting it penetrate, and then you remove with a dampened cloth.  This is particularly nice to have as we leave winter behind. (Full size items of 0.5 fl oz retails for $17.80)

So now that I’m cleansed from head to toe, my skin is masked and exfoliated and my body about to be adorned with jewels, Glossybox includes the prettiest spring shade of polish in Brook Street. This coral pink mini is perfect for fingers or toes that are waiting to be seen at last. It’s a great size for the fickle since it will give you enough for several uses.

This is a delightful box yet I know it’s not for everyone since there’s just one cosmetic item in it and lots of people are hoping for cosmetics. My feeling? There’s always next month and in the meantime I’ve got some amazing products to use and enjoy. What do you think of the March Glossybox?

It’s easy to subscribe to Glossybox and each month for $21 delivered you’ll get surprises galore. They are great for travel and for new discoveries. They are great for luxuries (like the Sisley) or heartwarming surprises (like the Alex and Ani charm bracelet). This March box has a value of at least $91. You can only come out ahead!

Oooh, I almost forgot that I have a spoiler for you for April. Glossybox is going to include one out of 13 shades of the wonderful Ciate Nail polishes in each box. That’s great news for me and hopefully you too. — Lisa

p.s. Another clue for April!! Each box will have Bellapierre Cosmetics Lip Gloss in Vanilla Pink ($24.50 value)

Get it for your guy: The Men’s Glossybox

Shampoo, shave, and style – that’s what the latest Glossybox for Men promises and for $40 it delivers everything your man needs to groom himself right up.

The Men's Glossybox

The Men’s Glossybox

There are two full size hair items, one full size skin care item, one full size shave item, and two sample size items.  The full size items together are worth $78, so this is definitely a bargain box of manly products.

Redken Clean Brew

Redken Clean Brew

Redken For Men Clean Brew Shampoo (retails for $12.50):  you know those commercials where there is a screaming hot guy out in the woods, doing something really manly like chopping down a tree or riding a wild horse?  The scent of this shampoo is exactly like what I imagine that screaming hot guy smells like.  It’s woodsy and clean and fabulously macho.  My husband LOVES this, it really is a terrific shampoo for guys who like working on cars or building houses because it has anti-grit technology that will clean even the most tenacious engine oil out of hair.  And if your guy has naturally oily hair, it’s shampoo perfection.

Redken Firm Grasp

Redken Firm Grasp

Redken for Men Firm Grasp texurizing hair clay (retails for $19):  this gets a big thumbs up from the hubby.  It’s a texturizing hair clay that smells woodsy, but it’s not an overpowering scent. It is terrific for shorter hair, leaving a matte finish that looks mod yet rugged.

Nuxe Men's Eye Cream

Nuxe Men Multi-Purpose Eye Cream

Nuxe Men Multi-Purpose Eye Cream (retails for $28): it is a small bottle, but it is the full size product. The eye cream is in an airless pump, it’s really terrific packaging. The eye cream is a thin cream that smells vaguely of pine.  It is designed to soothe puffiness, decrease dark circles, and decrease the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It sure leaves my skin super soft and hydrated. I got my husband to use it for a few days, and he liked it…but I’m betting it’s not something he will use all the time.  Eye cream is a little too much maintenance for him. So guess what? I’m stealing it for myself.

Zirh Prepare Shave Oil

Zirh Prepare Shave Oil

Zirh Pre-Shave Oil (retails for $18.50):  this is an oil that your guy smooths on before the shaving cream. It gives the shaving area more lubrication so shaving is easy and razor burn issues are things of the past. It’s a small bottle, but one drop is all my husband needs for shaving his beard, so this will last a very long time. Again, my husband liked it and said it worked great…but I am betting this is one more step he won’t do regularly, although he will reach for it when his razor is at the end of its lifetime. In the meantime, I am using it for shaving my legs.

Bulgari Man Extreme

Bulgari Man Extreme

BVLGARI Man Extreme Cologne (this is a deluxe 0.17 fl.oz. sample, a full size 3.4 oz. retails for $79):  what a nice, big sample of this deliciously manly cologne! I find a lot of men’s colognes are way too strong, but this one is subtle and masculine at the same time. Notes include pink grapefruit, Calabrian bergamot, balsa wood, and Haitian vetiver.

There is also a small tube of Sisley Moisturizer that is meant for application after shaving. It’s definitely something to throw in the travel bag for soothing irritated skin.

All in all, it’s a great box. The full size items are terrific and money-wise you get a lot of bang for your buck. Anything my hubby wouldn’t use was of interest to me, so nothing is going to be wasted! I think this is a wonderful gift for the guy in your life. I give a big thumbs up to this Men’s Glossybox.  - Lisa

Glossybox welcomes 2014 with this fun January box

January 2014 Glossybox

January 2014 Glossybox

I’ve been extremely lucky this month since I not only received this January Glossybox for review but also the limited edition La Prairie box. Both of these are filled with items that I hadn’t tried before (except for one) so they’ve enriched my life. The January subscription box teased us with two special items and I knew I wanted both of them. When I received the box I quickly opened it to make sure that they were in there. Smiles followed!!!

And what's inside the January box?

And what’s inside the January box?

The most treasured item in the January Glossybox is a Beautyblender sponge. I am crazy about Beautyblender and am thrilled to at last have the three colors they’ve made (the original hot pink, black and now white). The other teaser was Vichy though I didn’t know exactly what would be included.

Glossybox for January 2014

Let’s learn about the items in this month’s subscription:

BALANCE ME Super Toning Body Wash

Balance Me Body Wash

Balance Me Body Wash

This is loaded with spa inspired aromatics like juniper, bergamot, geranium and lavender. It’s a great wake up shower wash that foams to get you going in the morning. This deluxe sample is 1.7 fl oz while the full is 3.4 fl oz making this great for home use or to take to the gym or on vacation.

TONI&GUY HAIR MEET WARDROBE Casual Sea Salt Texturising Spray

Toni&Guy Casual Sea Salt Spray

Toni&Guy Casual Sea Salt Spray

I didn’t try this since my goal with hair is straight and smooth but that doesn’t mean that my blog partner isn’t dying to get her hands on this. You spray this evenly on your hair (either towel dried or dry) and work it through to create tousled waves. It has light hold to keep your style fresh looking throughout the day.

VICHY Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream:

VICHY Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream

VICHY Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream

VICHY Aqualia Thermal Rich Cream

The Vichy moisturizer is especially good for people with dry skin. It’s paraben free and contains the mineral rich Vichy Water as well as Hyaluronic Acid. It has a light fragrance that works for me during the day as it dissipates after about 10 minutes.  It’s a great winter moisturizer.

THE ORIGINAL BEAUTYBLENDER beautyblender.pure

Beautyblender and cleanser

Beautyblender

Beautyblender

Actually the original Beautyblender sponge was the one we affectionately called The Pink Egg. There was much debate on whether facsimiles of this were worthy but in my opinion nothing matches the Beautyblender. While I adore my pink egg I’d be afraid of just how dirty this white one would get but since it can be used for both skincare and cosmetics, I’ve got the perfect use for it! Skincare it will be. When I opened Glossybox I thought at first that this was a small size but it’s just the packaging that’s smaller. The sponge is full size and absolutely wonderful. If you’ve never used this then Glossybox brought you the best product ever! The cleanser is a small size and it really does get these sponges clean better than anything else.

BELLAPIERRE COSMETICS MINERAL BLUSH in Desert Rose:

Bellapierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose

Bellapierre Mineral Blush in Desert Rose

I don’t know if every box contained Desert Rose but it’s a beautiful shade that should be universally flattering.  Mineral products are recommended for all skin types even the most sensitive. This is a full size blush at 4g (value $20). It’s also available in Autumn Glow, Amaretto and Suede. My advice with this type of top is to only peel back a small amount of the taped top and then shake the powder into the top of the blush. That’s how I use all loose products like this so that I don’t get any overload or spilled product.

Glossybox's products for January 2014

Glossybox’s products for January 2014

This box is an especially nice one and a great way to start a year with Glossybox. For $21 a month you get great products like the ones this month. The value of this month’s box is approximately $62 so your money is well spent.

Is there anything in the January box that you’d love to own too? — Marcia

Glossybox has a very special edition from La Prairie

la prairie limited edition Glossybox

la prairie limited edition Glossybox

If you are a fan of la prairie skincare or you are longing for the line but don’t have the money for it, then you have a special opportunity from Glossybox for a box that is filled with only La Prairie skincare. This is not part of the regular subscription. It’s a limited edition box that Glossybox and la prairie put together for you. You don’t have to be a subscriber to Glossybox to order this amazing edition but you should hurry because it’s going to sell out quickly. Glossybox sent this so that I could share it with Beauty Info Zone readers.

One of the reasons it’s going to be the hottest item around (or maybe I should say coldest once you see what’s in it) is that there are two skincare items that aren’t even released yet. When you buy this box you’ll be among the first to try out their latest and greatest before it’s available in stores.

In the box you’ll receive 5 deluxe size samples of products. These are not packets, they are all nicely sized to give you weeks of use.

Not everyone uses a toner but it really can be an essential tool since it completes your cleansing process and gets your skin ready for the rest of your regimen. The size in the box is 2 fl oz.  The cellular lotion softens the skin and helps clean your pores at the same time.

ESSENCE OF SKIN CAVIAR EYE COMPLEX:

I am of the firm belief that you should be using eye creams day and night. This one is a lightweight gel that gives a lift to your undereye area. This 0.17 fl oz size is best used in the morning since it soothes away signs of stress and fatigue while instantly firming and nourishing that area. You only need a tiny amount to achieve the effect you want.

This is the product that made my heart skip a beat. Dry oils are the hottest commodity in skincare now. If you’d normally shy away from a product for your face with the word oil in it, now’s the time to try this out. It’s sheer and weightless so you’ll never feel like you have an oil on your face. The Dry Oil seals in the moisture within your skin so that you don’t dry out. You don’t have to worry about spilling it since you just press down on the top and the right amount of oil will appear. Your heart will skip a beat once you try this too.

The combination of the Dry Oil and Crystal Cream is perfect for those with skin on the dry side and for the harsh winter we are all having.

Now that you’ve seen the treasures in this Limited Edition Glossybox, it’s time to quickly order it. This goes up for sale on January 27th though they have teased us and given subscribers the opportunity to do a pre-sale. You don’t have to be a Glossybox subscriber to purchase this box. Glossybox’s Happy Holiday December box

Happy Holiday Glossybox

Happy Holiday Glossybox

I received the December 2013 Glossybox just as the year was ending and it was a wonderful way to end the year. I love surprises which is why I’m such a fan of subscription boxes. Glossybox was the first exciting box to come on the scene and it remains that way after all of this time.

contents of the December 2013 Glossybox

contents of the December 2013 Glossybox

Glossybox includes 5 items in almost all of their boxes. While not all items are full size, they don’t include anything small. You don’t end up with one or two uses from anything they include. There are deluxe size samples which will provide weeks worth of use.

The December box had 3 items that are skincare and body care and 2 items that are cosmetic. On to the delight of these treasures.

Glossybox skin and body

Glossybox skin and body

Anatomicals body cleanser

Anatomicals body cleanser

ANATOMICALS You Need a Blooming Shower is a Body Cleanser that is 5 oz. The full size is 10 oz. so this is a very large sample size. The fragrance of this is pretty strong since it’s a mix of rose and jasmine scents. It contains aloe vera and witch hazel. It’s meant to be both relaxing and refreshing.

full size pumpkin mask

full size pumpkin mask

MICHAEL TODD TRUE ORGANICS Pumpkin Mask is a product that I’ve loved for a long time. (Lisa recently reviewed it on Beauty Info Zone.) This is also a deluxe sample that will last you for a long time since you just don’t need that much. This mask is great for unclogging pores and dissolving impurities. I’ll never complain finding something from Michael Todd in a subscription box.

Naoboy Oxygenating Cream

Naobay Oxygenating Cream

NAOBAY Oxygenating Cream Moisturizing is a new brand for me. The full size of 1.7 fl oz. is $44 and the deluxe sample in the box is 1.01 fl oz. Naobay is a very lightly fragranced cream that helps keep your skin balanced and hydrated. It contains essential oils like rosehip oil and sweet almond oil.  Naobay is one of the European companies that Glossybox partners with so it’s great that they are bringing a product from Valencia that’s natural and organic to their subscribers.

The two full size cosmetics are what made me most excited because they are both items I’d have bought on my own and they are wonderful.

Nails Inc in Victoria

Nails Inc in Victoria

Victoria by Nails Inc

Victoria by Nails Inc

NAILS INC nail polish in Victoria is a beautiful deep cherry red cream. I’d always recommend Nails Inc polishes. I get amazing wear out of their cream polishes. This is a beautiful winter shade. The first coat feels almost fuchsia but it deepens with more coats. This full size polish ($9.50) is an absolute winner in my book. This is a Glossybox special color too so you can only get it there.

Ardency Inn eyeliner

Ardency Inn eyeliner

Ardency Inn eyeliner

Ardency Inn eyeliner

ARDENCY INN Punker “World’s Baddest Eyeliner” is a brand I’ve been wanting to try out. Getting this marker type eyeliner ($19) is perfect. I’m in a liquid eyeliner phase right now and was over the top excited to see this in the box. This Ardency Inn product is what makes a subscription box so much fun – a new brand, full size that fits into my life perfectly.

Ardency Inn eyeliner thick or thin - it does it all

Ardency Inn eyeliner thick or thin – it does it all

This is one of my favorite Glossyboxes ever. Lisa wants the shower cleanser (too strong a fragrance for me) and I want the rest! A Glossybox subscription costs $21 a month and as you can see there was much more than $21 worth in the box. While the December box is sold out, it’s not too late to subscribe to get the January box. I’m sure it will be an exciting way to start 2014.

Any products in here make your heart go pitter patter? — Marcia

The November Glossybox celebrates the Holiday Romance

For November Glossybox was inspired by holiday romance. They thought of gorgeous matte skin that was paired with bold and dramatic shades on the eyes and lips. The whole idea is to indulge a little and be a whole lot girly.

November 2013 Glossybox

November 2013 Glossybox

Inside the box are the indulgences that Glossybox sent for review. Not all boxes are the same though so you it’s likely you’ve read reviews that have slightly different products in them.

I really enjoyed opening this box to see how the theme matched the products. I think they did pretty dark good. My box contained 5 items even if you can’t see the eyeshadow in the box.

Emite Makeup Micronized Eye Shadow in Dams (full size and $27) is the darkest of dark shadows. It starts the theme off perfectly since it makes for a bold and dramatic eye. Dams can be used wet or dry so you can use this as an eyeliner or as a shadow. Emite has some beautiful products on their Swedish website.

Nicka K eyeshadow brush ($5.00) is a great brush to use with an eyeshadow this intense. It’s made with quality pony hair and is soft and luxurious feeling. It’s loose enough to pick up the pigment of Dams lightly if that’s what you want or go over the shadow a few times for intensity.

Glossybox’s theme said “gorgeous matte skin” and that’s what you’ll get with the next two products.

Aloe Source Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish ($30 for 6.7 oz, this is 1 fl oz.) is one of the nicest cleansers I’ve ever tried from a subscription box. It’s sulfate-free and has very gentle exfoliating with the jojoba microbeads and alpha & beta hydroxy acids. It’s delicious smelling (citrus which is my favorite) and cleanses perfectly.

Now that we’re all cleaned up we need to moisturize and this is where the luxury really comes in. Sulwhasoo Concentrated Ginseng Cream would cost you $220 for a full size 2.02 fl oz jar. Instead you can enjoy this beautiful 5 ml jar and think of sitting in your Hollywood home, eating bon bons by the fire and talking to your many admirers. You’ve got beautiful smokey eyes, fabulously smooth skin and now they want your hair to be just as beautiful. That’s where Mastey Color Protecting Leave-in Oil Treatment comes in. If you haven’t used an oil treatment on your hair, you are missing something. This one is a terrific addition to the box since it contains certified argan oil from Morocco, olive oil, and grape seed extract. While it’s not fragrance free it has a subtle aroma from the natural ingredients. It’s especially great for color-treated hair (raising my hand here) and/or damaged hair. This deluxe sample is over 2 fl oz.

Glossybox has a few things up their sleeves too. Right now they have a Limited Edition Gold Holiday box that will cost you $50 but it’s a $150 value and a great holiday gift. Plus they have their amazing collaboration with Net-A-Porter.com for $40 which has some fabulous items like an Ellis Faas mascara and a Kevyn Aucoin eyeshadow duo.

Glossybox did a great job of covering you from your neck on up with the November box. As usual, it’s always a treat to get a Glossybox in the mail. I’m a firm believer in subscription boxes and the thrill of getting new brands, travel size products and a bit of luxury coming my way. Glossybox is an expert at doing those things. The Byrdie Glossybox for October

Subscriptions boxes are addictive for me and as soon as you see this October Glossybox you’ll know why. When the first thing you see in a box you’ve paid $21 for is a mascara that would cost you $23 then you have a lot anticipation to see what else you’ll be enjoying.

October Glossybox

October Glossybox

The October Glossybox is the Byrdie box. What and who is Byrdie? It’s a lifestyle website that features cosmetics, skincare, celebrities, hair, and nails. Glossybox and Byrdie collaborated to put together a luxury box for us.

Byrdie Glossybox contents

Byrdie Glossybox contents

The thing that I’ve noticed in the 2 boxes I’ve received from them lately is that Glossybox has changed and it’s definitely for the better.  There is no longer the Glossybox Magazine since they can do that more efficiently online, leaving more room and money for what we want in the first place! The brands that they are working with now are much more high end and exciting to someone who buys a lot of makeup and skincare to begin with. The boxes also seem more balanced with what you are getting.

Glossybox for October 2013

Glossybox for October 2013

I’m excited to share with you all the items in this box and then to give you a teaser about the November box. The first item I saw was a full size Tarte Lights, Camera, FLASHES Mascara.  Tarte calls this a “statement mascara” and that’s because it’s meant to do everything: lengthen, curl, and magnify lashes.

The mascara wand has two sizes of bristles. Start using the short, soft bristles that are on the denser side of the brush. Then flip it 180 degrees and comb through with the longer, firmer bristles. Tarte makes wonderful, cruelty-free mascara that lasts without smudging and flaking. Lights, Camera, Flashes is amazing for volume and a jet black look.

The next item I saw in my box was a tube of lipgloss by a U.K. brand, balance Me. This is 100% Natural Origin. The shade I received is Super Soft Beige. It looks brown in the tube but it’s more of a pigmented nude once on. This can be found under treatments on the balance Me website. The value is £12.00 ($19.28) for this full size Tinted Lip Salve. The color is limited edition for the Byrdie Glossybox. This uses ingredients like coco butter, mango seed butter and shea butter to plump and hydrate your lips.

I had two skincare items in my Glossybox. One is from Fresh and I’m pretty sure everyone who subscribes got this one. The other is from Sesha and it appears that there were a few different products in boxes. The Sesha Skin Therapy I got thrills me since its a full size Rejuvenating Anti-Wrinkle Mask. It’s for mature skin and even though I act immature, my skin doesn’t. You can buy these separately for $9 each which is terrific since you can try one or one each of the masks they carry and see what you love best. While Sesha is a new brand for me, Lisa has tried two products that she loves.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream is the other skincare item in the box and it’s absolutely wonderful. This wonderful moisturizer uses their Super 7 Complex. I thought it was full size and was shocked to find out it’s one-third the normal size. The Lotus Youth Preserve Face Cream is going to last for months. The full size is 1.7 oz ($42) and this is 0.5 oz. making the value of it around $12.

The 5th item (Glossybox always has 5 products) is Bulgari Eau Parfumée au thé vert. This is a unisex green tea cologne that is getting a lot of raves. I don’t wear fragrance and I don’t love getting fragrance in my boxes but I’m pretty much alone on that part. This has the cutest bottle. I used to collect minis in spite of my not wearing them and this would have been a welcome addition to that collection. I’m sure I’ll find it a loving home.

You can still order the October box on their website so if you love these products like I think you will, then definitely order and start a subscription. For $21 this month there was at least $66 worth of product.

Now for the hint for November – remember this box is $21 and the hint is worth $27.
