Spring blush the Makeup Wars way

Spring blush favorites

Spring blush favorites

Makeup Wars is back to redden your cheeks, bring a flush to your face and enchant you with beautiful blush. We’ve picked some of our favorites that are gracing our cheeks this spring and into the summer. I’ve chosen 9 but I could have chosen 90 most likely.

If you are a Beauty Info Zone reader then you know that I love cream blush. I’m much more likely to buy a cream blush than a powder one so I’m starting with my springiest creams.

1. Tarte cheek stains come in 8 shades and you’ll have a tough time picking out a favorite. I chose Fearless since that’s the one I’ve been using the most lately. It’s a pinky coral and seems to look great with almost every eye look I choose.

2. Maybelline Master Glaze Cream Blush Stick in Pink Fever is my version of Radiant Orchid in a blush. It’s one of the best buys of the year for me since I love the longevity of the product, the perky color and the price. I need to pick up more of these.

3. Face Stockholm Creme Blush in London is getting a lot of love these days. I took a new picture for this review but I’ve used it so much that it looked raggedy. It’s a papaya shade that looks super bright in pictures and swatches but not on my face. I use a light touch when applying this long lasting color.

4. Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise is a blush that just doesn’t want to swatch for me. It’s described as ‘warm toned hot pink’ which is a great, if confusing, description. It feels cooling when you apply it. The Cheek Gelee can be used alone or as a stain to wear under a powder if you find blush fades on you. I just might have purchased Pink Escape during the Sephora 15% off sale.

5. Make Up For Ever HD Second Skin Cream Blush in 210 but I easily could have picked 225 and 330 since the 3 I have are scrumptious. I love the colors of these. They are so smooth and as Lisa said “DREAMY”. We’ve reviewed 6 of these and can’t praise them enough. Find a color (or 5) that you love and you’ll never be sorry.

I’m no slacker when it comes to powder blush and have a small mountain of those too. The 4 I’ve chosen are the ones I’m finding most versatile for spring.

6. TheBalm InStain in Argyle is my latest buy. I purchased it from Hautelook and will purchase more the next time they are on sale. I love the color of Argyle (petal pink) and I love not only how smoothly it applies but it has amazing longevity. It does have stain-like qualities. The pigmentation is intense even though Argyle is the lightest shade available.

7. Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek in Parasol is absolutely beautious. I constantly express my love for the Dollskin Cream blushes so I was excited to receive this powder blush. It’s as amazing as the cream blushes. Parasol is so soft and cream like. It has a gorgeous glow to it. Tarina Tarantino describes it as shimmering bright pink coral. I describe it as beautiful.

8. Senna Sheer Face Color in Pink Diva is the sweetest pink of the group. When I want a pink that’s pink this is what I pick. While the name says sheer, the blush isn’t sheer. It’s loaded with cool tones of pinkness.

Senna Pink Diva

9. Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Intensity Cheek Color in A Little Toasted doesn’t appear to be a blush you’d choose for spring but it’s great for that very reason. I sometimes need a very neutral shade and this is a neutral. There’s a brownish mauve tinge to it that was hard to capture but it’s there. It’s almost like a contour color for my fair skin.

FACE Stockholm Spring 2014

I often wonder, why doesn’t FACE Stockholm get more blog press? This is an utterly fantastic line with top-notch products and shades. Spring 2014 at FACE Stockholm is right on trend with natural, peachy-pink shades and a hint of some sassy purple.

FACE Stockholm sent us four items from the latest collection: Mineral Foundation, Pearl Eyeshadow #36, Toffee Lipstick, and Worship Blush.

The Liquid Mineral Foundation ($36) is a thin, lightweight foundation that provides medium coverage. I have issues with an oily t-zone, but not when I wear this oil-free matte foundation. It comes in a sleek-looking glass bottle with a built-in spatula. I don’t apply the foundation using the spatula – to be completely hygienic I scoop some out onto my metal palette, then apply the foundation using my Beauty Blender. It gives a gorgeous finish that lasts all day. I have Synsk, which is a great shade for those who have that not quite light, not quite medium skin tone.

The Spring 2014 Collection features Pearl Shadow in #36 ($19), which is described as a ‘greige’ shade. It just might be the prettiest eyeshadow I own – it’s no mystery to me why this is one of FACE Stockholm’s most popular eye shadow shades. It goes on as a mixture of pink, taupe, grey, and purple, and it seems to become more purple as the day goes on. I have worn this every single day since it arrived! This eyeshadow is a perfect pop of color in the otherwise neutral palette of the spring collection.

The Cream Lipstick in Toffee ($22) is a feminine, soft coral that is perfect for spring. The creamy lipstick is opaque, with great lasting power and just enough shine. It really complements the blush in the collection, Worship.

The Blush in Worship ($20) is a velvety, shimmery peachy-pink. The pigment is amazing – FACE Stockholm is one of the few brands that has powder blushes that will last all day on even the most oily skin. The texture is to die for, buttery and fabulous. Worship is a fantastic spring shade and is one of the most popular shades they offer.

I am absolutely loving the Spring 2014 Collection. Other items featured in the collection include the Precision Eyeliner, Cream Eyeshadow in Apricot, Tinted Brow Fix, and the terrific Luxe Lash Mascara. The Spring 2014 Collection from FACE Stockholm is a fantastic way to say hello to the new season.  - Lisa

Did you know Face Stockholm has nail polish? Check out #168

Face Stockholm nail polish in #168

Face Stockholm nail polish in #168

Face Stockholm is one of the BIZ’s favorite cosmetic brands. The two of us are crazy about the Face Stockholm products we’ve been sent or have purchased. Not many people though are aware that they have nail polish that is not only unique but of the highest quality.

One of my all time favorite polishes is by Face Stockholm, it’s the glorious holographic Aura that I featured in a Makeup Wars post. I can’t wait for warm weather to return so that I can apply this again.

The majority of their 120 shades nail polishes are cream polishes and can be found on their website (be sure you click the number to see the swatch and description) along with some at blush.com. The polish I was recently sent is #168 which is described as “cream crocus”. It’s a beautiful purple that leans blue.

This polish was an absolute delight to wear. It applied flawlessly in two coats and wore perfectly for a solid week. I couldn’t ask for more in a polish.

Lots of loving for 3 creamy products from Face Stockholm

While Face Stockholm has just come out with their spring collection I’ve can’t stop wearing some of the products from their other collections. I love that there’s a timelessness with Face Stockholm’s products. Often when they spotlight what they think is important for a season, they are products from the regular line since they create products that are classics or classics with a twist.

Face Stockholm cream eyeshadow in Taft, Nail polish in #168 and London creme blush

Face Stockholm cream eyeshadow in Taft, Nail polish in #168 and London creme blush

I love creams for my face so when I was sent a few creamy Face Stockholm products for review I was thrilled. To me there’s a youthfulness with a cream product that I don’t always get with powder products. I’m old enough to need all the youth that can be thrown my way.

Face Stockholm Creme Blush in Rio and London

Face Stockholm Creme Blush in Rio and London

One of my very favorite products from Face Stockholm has been their Crème Blush in Rio. I am totally head over heels in love with it. Face Stockholm makes 14 different crème blushes all named after countries. I’d rather own these blushes than travel to the places they are named after – that’s how much I like them. Rio is a gorgeous candy pink while my newest one, London, is papaya. It’s almost scary bright in the compact but once on, it’s fantabulous. It’s a darker shade than my original Rio so I have to use a lighter touch on my very fair skin. To me there’s no season for these blushes since they work all year long for me.

Face Stockholm crème blushes are dewy without being greasy looking. I find that they work well over any type of foundation or powder I’m wearing. They are extremely easy to blend. I love a cream blush because of the ability to blend it more seamlessly than a powder blush. Depending on my mood I use my fingers, a sponge, or a brush. But no matter my tool, I end with my fingers to help meld the cream into my skin and make sure that the colors are muted around the edges of the blush. On my normal to dry skin they last a good 8 hours before I have to add anymore.

Face Stockholm KRÄMÖGONSKUGGA in Taft

Face Stockholm KRÄMÖGONSKUGGA in Taft

A new product for me is their KRÄMÖGONSKUGGA which they call their “Dream Cream Eye Shadow”.  This comes in 18 shades ($24). You don’t have to know how to pronounce this shadow to love it luckily. I was sent it in Taft which is described as ‘cream sable’. When I think of sable I think of a redder shade though than this is. Taft is a neutral brown that can be worn as eyeliner or as an eyeshadow. I’ve worn it as my actual eyeshadow color, in addition I’ve worn it as a base for powder shadows. Taft is one of the longest wearing cream shadows I’ve ever tried. It doesn’t crease on me and it lasts an entire day. Face Stockholm says it’s waterproof and I believe that. I need a dedicated eye makeup remover to take it off.

Face Stockholm KRÄMÖGONSKUGGA in Taft

Face Stockholm KRÄMÖGONSKUGGA in Taft

My only complaint with KRÄMÖGONSKUGGA is the packaging. When I wear a cream eyeshadow I like to use my fingers to apply it and there’s no way I can do that with this little jar of loveliness. It’s only about ¾ of an inch across so I have to use a brush to get it out. My finger just won’t fit. It’s not a loose cream, it’s on the stiff side which helps make it last so long so you’ll need a firm enough brush to get it out and apply it. For me, the best brush is a taklon one like MAC 242 brush which is a great size and material to fit in the jar and apply it. The shade that is calling my name in this collection is Linne. It’s a shimmer taupe that looks light enough to wear alone or as a base shade.

For a long time you could only buy Face Stockholm in New York or Europe. They now have locations throughout the US  though none near me. In addition blush.com (part of Dermstore) carries a lot of the line though not the cream eyeshadows.

If you are a fan of cream products consider searching for the ones from Face Stockholm should be on your agenda. They may be a little harder to come by but once in your possession you’ll be thrilled you made the extra effort.

Side by Side: Face Stockholm Lipsticks in Summer and Citrus

Face Stockholm

Face Stockholm Lipstick

The latest lip shades from Face Stockholm are gorgeous, no-fuss shades just right for that journey from the last dog days of summer to the first crisp and cool days of fall.

Face Stockholm

great shades from Face Stockholm!

There are a total of 156 Lipstick ($22) shades available at Face Stockholm (a makeup artist’s dream!!) with three different formulas:  Matte, color-saturated coverage with no shine; Cream, perfect, rich cream coverage; and Veil, a sheer wash of moisturizing color. Face Stockholm recently sent the BIZ two shades to try, and here is what we found.

Face Stockholm

love the chic silver packaging

Lisa’s Side:

While my shade preference in lipsticks has definitely expanded over the years – I remember wearing nothing but frosted pink all through high school – I still gravitate towards cooler colors. The shade Summer happens to be right up my alley.

Face Stockholm Summer

Face Stockholm Summer

Face Stockholm Summer swatch

Summer is a bright berry shade in the cream formula. This is PIGMENTED, capital letters intended, and totally earned by this lippie. If you have thicker lips, you will want to wear this full force for an absolutely gorgeous pop of berry-liciousness. If you have thinner lips like me, you will want to gently press this on for the most fantastic berry stain that really lasts. Sometimes I wear a clear shimmery gloss over it, but usually I just wear the color alone and wish my lips naturally looked that way all the time.

Marcia’s side:

Lisa and I could have been twins in our taste in lipstick when we were younger. The thought of anything other than a light pink (and preferably frosty) was frightening. Luckily we’ve both become more sophisticated in our taste. Once faced with the list of 12 lipsticks from that gorgeous collection from FACE Stockholm I knew that frosty pink was out and a light citrus was in.

Face Stockholm Citrus lipstick

Face Stockholm Citrus lipstick

Citrus Lipstick caught my eye instantly. It was different than my normal picks and it looked so pretty. When it arrived I was thrilled with my choice. The description of Citrus on the FACE Stockholm website is “a sheer pommelo” which I promptly googled. I knew what a pomelo/pommelo was but I need to see why it would be used this way. From What’s Cooking America I learned that: The skin is green to yellow and slightly bumpy; flesh color ranges from pink to rose.

Face Stockholm Citrus swatch

Face Stockholm Citrus swatch

As you can see by my swatch and lips this fits pretty well, it’s definitely a citrus shade but with a lot of pink in it. It’s a perfect lipstick to wear with my warmer eyes and cheeks. Lately I’ve been enamored with shades of green, khaki and antique golds on my eyes therefore I need a lipstick that’s going to look good with types of shades. Citrus to the rescue.

Face Stockholm Citrus lipstick

Face Stockholm Citrus lipstick

This is an extremely easy lipstick to wear for me. It has no fragrance and it glides on. I can wear a lipliner to make the color more intense or I can put it on quickly and know that I’m good to go.

Whether you go with a cream like Summer or a sheer shade like Citrus, you can’t go wrong. FACE Stockholm is coming out of hiding and it’s time you discovered the wonderfulness of their lipsticks along with Beauty Info Zone.

Wantable keeps adding beauty to my life

My August subscription from Wantable arrived with some new surprises and items that I know I’m going to love owning. While this is my most expensive subscription box, it’s also the most reliable as to what I’m going to get. I’m always delighted by items that Wantable sends and August just kept on adding to that feeling.

August 2013 Wantable Beauty Box

August 2013 Wantable Beauty Box

If you read 100 reviews/articles about Wantable you’ll see 100 combinations. There are a few things that are in many of the boxes but for the most part each box is customized by the profile you’ve filled out. I’ve seen several other articles and no box was exactly like mine. I’m delighted with mine and will use every single item in it.

FACE STOCKHOLM is one of my favorite brands so to get two items in the box by them is a thrill. It’s funny though because on someone else’s blog I saw a comment that they didn’t want FACE Stockholm – well send it all to me. The first item from FACE is the gel eyeliner in brown ($24). On my profile I’ve got two items under “LOVE” – eyeliner and eyeshadow. Therefore I receive a lot of eyeliners in my boxes and that makes me happy. I hadn’t tried the FACE Stockholm gel eyeliner and I can always use another brown gel since I go through them faster than any other color.

The other FACE Stockholm product is the most stunning and vibrant red nail polish in #128 ($12). Unfortunately the website for FS has terrible swatches so I’d never know to pick this metallic pinky red out. I’ve reviewed Aura, a holographic polish, from them and adored it so I’m thrilled to have one of my favorite colors now to try.

The “LIKES” on my profile are blush, highlighter, lip color, nail polish, lash products and tools. I think I’ll take off highlighters for the next time though since I’ve got a lot that I love already. The rest of items in my box are all from this list showing how much attention Wantable pays.

MICHAEL MARCUS was introduced to me in my last box with a pretty pinky coral nail polish. This time I received a lipstick named Ann ($24). I had specified I didn’t want bright lipstick and Ann is a neutral that’s within my comfort zone.

This next item brought me great joy – Whip Hand Cosmetics. I’m a huge fan of Whip Hand and I’m so excited to see that Wantable has partnered with them. I’m hoping to get a lot more from Whip Hand in my boxes. This time it’s Whip Hand Cheek Flash loose blush in Biased ($18). This is the prettiest soft pink blush and works perfectly with my Whip Hand pink lipgloss that I showed in my Pink Makeup Wars article.

Also included is my first tool from a Wantable box, this is a JAPONESQUE Travel Smudger Brush ($14.50). I’m looking forward to putting this in my travel brush bag since I have nothing like this in there. Japonesque brushes are excellent cruelty free brushes.

Last is a bonus that isn’t counted in the total: a Lise Watier sample card of the Ombre Supreme Souffle eyeshadows. The card shows all six shades and has samples of Sunrise Peach and Vert Enchante. I’m looking forward to trying both of these as this is a favorite formula.

So there you have my delightful Wantable Subscription for August. I buy my subscription but I have to say thank you to several of you who helped me get this month’s box for less. If you sign up for emails using my link then I get $1 off my next box. If you decide to subscribe via my link I’d get $9 off my next box. So I thank those of you who have signed up past and future. It’s always nice to save some money. Here’s my link: https://www.wantable.com/invite/1DV7tjqbktQ

As you can tell, I highly recommend Wantable. While I pay $36 a month for my subscription I got $92.50 worth of items, all products that I’m excited about to boot. This is the one box that I believe will hold my interest for a long time to come! — Marcia

Makeup Wars – favorite summer manicure with FACE Stockholm

 photo summermani.jpg

I was very excited when the MAKEUP WARS group decided to do a favorite summer manicure for this go-round. I instantly knew what was going on my nails for it. Recently I mentioned that my two favorite nail finishes are metallic and holographic. I’m a lot like a magpie – attracted to pretty shiny items. Put me in front of a nail polish display and my choices will all be this type of beauty.  FACE Stockholm isn’t necessarily known as a nail polish company but as of now I proclaim they should be. They’ve come out with a new collection that appeals to the magpie in me and hopefully you.

The collection is called Optical Diffusions and there are 6 Holographic shades. I was sent Aura to sample and it’s totally amazing. When I went to get my nails done there was a woman who had finished her manicure but wouldn’t leave until she saw mine. The polish fascinated her and she was amazed that there is no glitter in it.

The surface looks glittery but instead it’s a smooth field of intricate color. The main shade is a lavender while the hologram effect comes through with glimmers of pink, blue and gold shining through. In normal light Aura mostly looks like a shiny lavender with interest. The beauty really comes out in bright light though since that’s where you see the holographic beauty of the polish.

Aura is a linear hologram that applied beautifully. It looked perfect with one coat but you really need two to bring out the full glory of the radiance. FACE Stockholm polishes are free of Formaldehyde, Toluene and DBP. If I have any complaints about these FACE Stockholm polishes it’s “how do you pick just one?” I want them all. These are available at Face Stockholm stores and their website for $16 each. Is there a shade you’d pick? — Marcia

Be sure you click on all these icons to see what all the other Makeup Wars bloggers have chosen. Summer is the perfect time for a manicure so I’m excited to see what else is out there for me!
