Why Chella Eyebrow Color Kit is a necessity to me

In the 6 years that I’ve been blogging I’ve gone from never touching my eyebrows except for some plucking to being extremely concerned about them. Never having to think about brows was easy. I’d do my entire face, spending forever on getting it just right, and not go near my eyebrows. Life happened though and through age and illness I now need to complete my eyebrows every single day.

Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Kit

Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Kit

Chella Eyebrow Color Kit is the perfect way for you to start on your eyebrow journey if you are anything like me. When this kit was sent for review I was thrilled, now I just need to fill in the pieces when needed. Chella’s eyebrow kits come in 6 great color combinations: Awesome Auburn, Beautiful Blonde, Dazzling Dark Brown, Elegant Ebony, Luscious Light Brown, and Tantalizing Taupe.

Awesome Auburn Awesome Auburn
Beautiful Blonde Beautiful Blonde
Dazzling Dark Brown Dazzling Dark Brown
Beautiful Brown Luscious Light Brown
Tantalizing Taupe Tantalizing Taupe
Elegant Ebony Elegant Ebony

Each kit contains the Eyebrow Color Pencil, a highlighter pencil, an eyebrow defining gel, and a dual size pencil sharpener, along with a small booklet to help guide you into shaping your brows perfectly for your face.

Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Kit

Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Kit

While you can buy each of these products separately the kit, normally $$54, is on sale for $37.80 which is a great price for all 4 of these items.

Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Pencil

Chella Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Pencil

The Tantalizing Taupe Eyebrow Color Pencil is a mechanical pencil that doesn’t drag at all. I can’t tell you how many pencils I’ve used that stop gliding while I’m in the middle of doing my brows. This is creamy and allows you to draw individual brow strokes or fill in the places that are sparse with ease. It’s also smudgeable when it’s newly applied but lasts throughout the day once set.

Chella Latte Highlighter Pencil

Chella Latte Highlighter Pencil

Each kit contains a highlighter pencil. In Tantalizing Taupe it happens to be the shade Latte which is too dark for me. But with other shades like Ivory Lace which I already owned I can tell why this is such a raved about product. The pencil is meant to brighten and visibly lift your eyes. I need a very light hand when using either of the shades I have since they are intensely pigmented. It’s a multi-use product that can be applied on the brow bone (either above or below your brow), to help with dark circles, blemishes and red spots. But wait, it’s also safe for your waterline and the inner corners of your eye. What more could you ask for??

Chella swatches: Tantalizing Taupe and Latte

Now with a pencil as thick as the Chella Highlighter you need a pencil sharpener and Chella did us a favor and put in a dual size Sharpener to meet all our needs.

Chella Highlighter Pencil and Dual Size Pencil Sharpener

That’s not the end of the products you need because this contains Chella Eyebrow Defining Gel. You especially want this in the summer. The clear gel helps hold your brow hairs in place and sets the color from the pencil. In the summer you get hot, inadvertently brush your hand across your face –  whoops, you’ve removed the color. This Eyebrow Defining Gel prevents that by keeping your brow color where it belongs without your brows feeling stiff.

4 perfect pieces + 2 uneven eyebrows + the desire to look your best all add up to a Chella Eyebrow Color Kit. Your eyebrows will thank you for the care.  —  Marcia

Sleek MakeUP makes summer shine even better with Precious Metals Highlighting Palette

Sleek Highlighting Palette in Precious Metals

Sleek Highlighting Palette in Precious Metals

Sleek MakeUP first came to my attention on Makeup Alley. The ladies there were going nuts over the amazing colors of their palettes and the even more amazing prices for this highly pigmented line. I ordered eyeshadows because I had to see what the fuss was about and I didn’t regret that one bit even though it was more expensive to get in the US. Happily now Sleek has made it easy to purchase their products on their website without the high prices and shipping.

Sleek MakeUP sent us a package of some of their newest products which Lisa and I have drooled over. She recently reviewed their VIP Lipsticks which are a semi-matte. I need to remind her that she promised me Private Booth. I took the Precious Metals Highlighting Palette and Eyebrow Stylist and I’m not promising them to her, I want them all to myself.

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette with names

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette with names

Sleek MakeUP Precous Metals Highlighting Palette is one of three Highlighting Palettes that they’ve created ($14.99) and it’s all I could ask for, especially with summer finally here. This is a high shine palette that contains 3 cream pans and one powder one. Some are more shimmery than others but all have a radiance that I love.

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette

The four shades (clockwise from upper left) are Platinum, Royal Gold, Antique Bronze (powder), and Renaissance Gold. These are such versatile highlighters and I’ve found you can wear them anywhere on your face and also on your body. I L.O.V.E. them on my eyes. I’ve been a fan of cream eyeshadows for years and the Precious Metals palette is perfect for me. I start with an eyeshadow primer, apply the cream shades with my finger and usually put a powder eyeshadow in the crease or sometimes Antique Bronze there. It lasts the entire day without creasing or fading.

Precious Metals: Platinum, Royal Gold

Precious Metals: Platinum, Royal Gold

Platinum is meant to lift your browbone with its creamy white with a light pink undertone. Royal Gold is a bright yet light gold that is beautiful on my lid. Sleek suggests using Royal Gold down the bridge of your nose as a highlighter.

Sleek Precious Metals: Renaissance Gold and Antique Bronze

Sleek Precious Metals: Renaissance Gold and Antique Bronze

Renaissance Gold is less sparkly so I’ve used it a lot on my eyes. Sleek’s suggestion of applying Renaissance Gold on your cupid’s bow to make your lips more prominent is a winner! It’s a wonderful shade for that especially since it’s more natural while still being metallic. Antique Bronze works wonderfully as a bronzer and a highlighter. It’s also a great eyeshadow shade.

Sleek: Platinum, Royal Gold, Renaissance Gold, Antique Bronze

Sleek Precious Metals Highlighting Palette is not only a bargain to me with its 4 shades that enhance and glow but it’s one that’s going to make my summer more beautiful.

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

I was happy when I found Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in the package. My eyebrows went from nicely shaped and filled in naturally to scraggly monsters that are thin. I desperately need eyebrow products these days and this Eyebrow Stylist is great for me. This automatic pencil comes in three shades: light, medium, and dark. I was sent Dark which is a great shade for my brunette brows.

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

One end contains a flat tip so that you can create a light outline and then with the pointed angled edge fill in your brows. It’s easy to use feather strokes to create an illusion of hair. What I like is that I can heavily fill in the sparseness at the front of my brows and then flip it to use lighter strokes for the rest. This really fills in well and it’s not a waxy feeling.

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist

The spoolie isn’t unusual but it does a great job of grooming your brows so it gets an A from me!

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

Sleek Eyebrow Stylist in Dark

This is not the best shot of my brows because they needed some plucking but you can see how well this fills in and looks natural. You can easily layer this or apply a darker line if you need more coverage. At $8.99 this is one of the better buys I’ve found in eyebrow pencils.

Two great finds from SLEEK MAKEUP. We no longer have to worry about the difficulty and expense of buying Sleek since they’ve made it so easy. —  Marcia

Thrive Causemetics – doing good for you and others

thrive eyeliner and eyebrow

THRIVE CAUSEMETICS has a special name and a special cause. They are a company that every man and woman around should appreciate and support. For every product purchased, a product is donated to a woman going through cancer treatment. This totally warms my heart making me even more thrilled that the company chose to send these to try out. It’s also a company that I want to see thrive.

At the current time Thrive Causemetics carries a variety of products: Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner, Infinity Waterproof Eyeliners, Faux Lashes, Lash Adhesive, and Hair Ties. Plus a great mug for all beauty lovers.

I have both an eyeliner and a brow liner to introduce you to.

THRIVE CAUSEMETICSINFINITY WATERPROOF EYELINER

thrive causemetics infinity eyebrow

Infinity Waterproof Eyeliner comes in various configurations. You can purchase a single liner for $22 or do a combo set of two products for $40. There are 4 matte shades and 1 shimmer liner to chose from: LAUREN (black), ELLA (brown), HODA (slate grey), GUILIANA (purple shimmer), and TALIA (navy). I have this in HODA which is a terrific slate grey shade. Even though I like a black liquid eyeliner I often find that it’s aging. This shade of grey is recognizable as grey and a softer look. I love how this glides on so easily.

Thrive eyeliner smudger and sharpener

Thrive Hoda Eyeliner (slate grey)

Thrive Hoda Eyeliner (slate grey)

Thrive makes this so easy to use by having a built in sharpener and smudger on the opposite end. Even more important is how long lasting this is without smudging or just plain disappearing during the day.

THRIVE INFINITY WATERPROOF BROW LINER

Thrive Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner

Thrive Infinity Waterproof Brow Liner

As regular readers know, I’ve become eyebrow obsessed so having this brow pencil is terrific. There are two shades available: Christina and Audrey. Christina is for those of you with light brows while Audrey is for darker brows. I was sent Audrey which is a good universal shade for brunettes. This is a windup pencil that never needs sharpening. It’s great for drawing in individual brow lashes since it’s got such a fine point to it. The opposite end has a spoolie which I rely on for smoothing out color.

from left: Hoda eyeliner, Audrey brow pencil

The pencil is a triple threat; not only is it waterproof but it’s a wax and powder in one. The pigment is buildable so that helps me with the sparseness on the front of my brows. This contains shea butter, sodium hyalurante and ceramides which help encourage the growth of fuller brows. I may marry this if that happens over time!

There are so many reasons to recommend Thrive – beauty with a purpose that is paraben free, sulfate free, latex free, cruelty free and vegan. Can’t beat that. Even makeup artists like Jamie Greenberg used Thrive products like Audrey Brow Liner and Thrive Adhesive on clients like Kaley Cuoco at the Golden Globes. Brow and lash love for 2015

Make-up, applying mascara

As I was doing my makeup for New Year’s Eve I realized that the biggest change in my cosmetic life for 2015 was that I absolutely can not go without doing my brows anymore. A combination of age and illness created eyebrows that just didn’t cut it anymore. I went for most of my life not touching my eyebrows with much more than a tweezers. They had a great natural shape and were filled in nicely. That’s not the case any more. That’s why I decided to share the 2015 eyebrow and eyelash products that have made a difference for me.

PIXI BROW POWDER PALETTE  –  Shades of Brows

Pixi Beauty Brow Palette

Pixi Beauty Brow Palette

This is my most used brow product for everyday. My hair isn’t necessarily the same shade from color to color so I appreciate having a choice of shades that I can use straight or mix. Right now I’m dipping twice into the darkest shade and once in the one lighter since my hair is very dark at the moment. I’ll get it colored soon and can reevaluate how I want to use the colors. One of the best buys at $12 I’ve found. *

PIXI ENDLESS BROW GEL PEN

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

The Endless Brow Gel Pen is another best for me from Pixi. This is not a universally loved product but I like it so much that I bought 3 the last time I ordered from Pixi. It’s not really a pen, it’s a pencil that is gel-like in texture. It’s a heavier look than the brow palette because the gel is thicker. I like wearing this when my brows really need attention.

SENNA COSMETICS BROW SHAPER

Senna Brow Duo in Brunette

Senna Brow Duo in Brunette

I love Senna Cosmetics but I hadn’t tried their eyebrow products before because I just didn’t care about my eyebrows. Now that I have this Brow Shaper with the plumping brow shade and pomade I really appreciate why Eugenia Weston, owner and cosmetic guru, is so well known for eyebrows. These powders really cling to my eyebrow hair and fill in naturally where I’ve lost some hair. Another reason to love Senna. *

IT COSMETICS HEAVENLY LUXE BUILD A BROW BRUSH

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Build A Brow and It Cosmetics Tightlining 10-in-1 Dual Ended brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Eyebrow brush

It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Eyebrow brush

OMG, this is the best brush ever for eyebrows. It was created for IT’s Build a Brow Creme Gel Stain and it’s great with that but it also shines with every gel or cream brow product I’ve tried. The bristles are staggered so they really get into your brows to deposit color. This is totally unique and totally worth every penny of the $24 price.

BENEFIT ROLLER LASH MASCARA

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

Officially named Roller Lash Super Curling and Lifting Mascara, this is one of my favorites of the year. I find Benefit Cosmetics to be hit or miss but after reading the raves for this I caved and I’m glad I did. The curved wand really does help curl your lashes although I always use an eyelash curler. The combo of the eyelash curler and Roller Lash gives me eyelashes that stay curled for a good 12 hours. This was good for me for a solid three months staying easy to wear and easy to remove.

CATRICE LASH MULTIMIZER VOLUME MASCARA

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara wand

Catrice Ultimate Lash Multimizer Volume Mascara wand

At $7.99 this is 1/3 the price of the Benefit mascara and almost as good. The Multimizer is a volume and definition mascara. While it doesn’t help add curl, it holds it well. The older this gets, the better it gets. Which means a new one is in my future.

BARE MINERALS LASH DOMINATION VOLUMIZING MASCARA

Bare Minerals Lash Domination

BareMinerals Lash Domination

2016 was the year I realized I loved volume mascaras. Before that I always thought I was looking for length and definition but the mascaras I like best this year turned out to be volumizing. Who knew? Besides charming me with the polka dot packaging, Lash Domination * charmed me with the twisty turny brush and lashes that looked great. They call this a 10-in-1 mascara since it Volumizes, Lengthens, Thickens, Separates, Lifts, has All-day wear, is Mineral fortified, Resists clumps, Fights Flakes, and is Smudge-resistant. After reviewing * this, I bought another.

SURRATT BEAUTY RELEVEE LASH CURLER

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler

Surratt Beauty Relevee Lash Curler opened

I didn’t need another eyelash curler but I wanted this Surratt Beauty one after reading all the raves. Everyone has different shaped eyes and the lash curlers that a lot of people rave about (Shu, ELF etc) pinch me. This Surratt Relevee has been a delight to use. It opens widely, does a great job fitting my eyes and creates a curl that really lasts. If I want to use the method of inching up my lashes I have to use a magnifying mirror so I can see my lashes better.

As usual with a list like this, I’m sure I left out other wonderful products that I discovered in 2015. Even if I did though I know I’m recommending the ones that really have stood out to me. Have you tried any of these? What would you say stood out the most for you this past year?  — Marcia

September brings new Pixi Beauty #pixibeauty #fall2015

Pixi Beauty Endless Brow Gel, Cat Eye Ink, Mattelustre Lipstick

Pixi Beauty Endless Brow Gel, Cat Eye Ink, Mattelustre Lipstick

Welcome some new products to the world of Pixi by Petra this month with the launch of Mattelustre Lipstick, Endless Brow Gel Pen and Cat Eye Ink. These are certainly welcome into my world since they were sent to test.

This year matte lips have taken off like American Pharoah – it’s definitely won the Triple Crown with all cosmetic companies. But Pixi Beauty has a slightly different take on matte lips and one that’s much easier to wear with their MATTELUSTRE lipsticks. There are 11 enticing shades that are only $12 each. What makes these different is that they are not a flat matte. Instead there’s a light lustre finish and a slight plumping to your lips with these long lasting lipsticks. My lips didn’t feel dry when wearing them. I have Pure Fuchsia which is a vivid cool shade of this dark pink. I also have Plum Berry described as “cerise berry tint” which on me is quite red, I don’t see the plum but I do see the berry.

Pixi Beauty Mattelustre lipsticks in Plum Berry and Pure Fuchsia

The tubes themselves are Pixi green but the outer packaging is a covering of a bright fuchsia color to keep the lipsticks sealed. They are a chunky tube but the lipstick itself is the normal size. Pixi added peptides, hyaluronic acid, and vitamins C & E help to create fuller, smoother looking lips with these 11 beauties. Be sure to look at these on Pixi’s website to see great representations of the shades.

Pixi Beauty Mattelustre lipsticks in Plum Berry and Pure Fuchsia

Both of these shades are in the cool family but there are others like Peach Blossom, Honey Bare, and Bitten Rose that are for those of you who look better in warmer shades. What I’m going to search Target for is Plump Pink, a cool mauve pink. Happily for me these are fragrance free and a demi-matte formula rather than a flat matte.

CAT EYE INK is a new liquid liner ($14) with an unusual tip. It’s a slanted felt tip that you can use to create a thin line if you are careful or a thicker one. It is only available in Intense Black which is typical for a cat eye. It’s a very wet liner so you can’t just slap it on. Take your time with this so that it doesn’t bleed since it’s so juicy. I think you need to use an eyeshadow primer first and let that dry down, then pat on your lid shade or a translucent shade. Next apply the liner carefully. Once it’s set, it’s set and it’s very long lasting. I’ve had times it was easy to get the liner look I wanted but other times that this didn’t cooperate with me.

Pixi Beauty Cat Eye Ink Pen

My favorite new product is ENDLESS BROW GEL PEN ($11) which I know I’ll be buying again and again. I’m in love with Pixi Beauty brow products and until this arrived I’d been using the Brow Powder Palette non-stop. But Endless Brow Gel Pen has kidnapped me and is making me use this instead. It comes in three shades (Light a neutral light taupe, Medium which is neutral ash brown, and Dark a neutral cocoa gray). I have it in Medium and when I swatched it I really was worried it would be too light. That worry was changed to relief the first day I wore it. With my (sparse) dark brown eyebrows it’s a great shade.

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

Pixi Endless Brow Gel Pen in Medium

The texture of this brow pencil is unusual, I’ve only tried one other like it (but much more expensive). The formula is soft and smooth and truly glides on. It’s just so easy for me to use to fill in my brows. If you like to draw individual hairs then this might not be for you though. But I’ll be buying it as soon as I notice it’s getting too small to use.

Pixi Beauty Natural Brow Duo loves my eyebrows

Pixi Beauty Brow Guide

Pixi Beauty Brow Guide

1. To find the perfect brow size for your face, place the pencil against your nostril.2. Point the pencil straight up from your pupil to find your natural arch. 3.  Finally point the pencil from the nostril and out, to find where your brow should end.
Fill in with light strokes with the pencil side of the Natural Brow Duo and finish by setting the brow by brushing up with the tinted gel.

Natural Brow Duo from Pixi Beauty has come to my rescue. I’m suddenly obsessed with eyebrows which you’ll see more of this week. I never had to worry about eyebrows before but the hair on my face is moving. Those little hairs on my lashes and eyebrows are migrating downward. It’s an age thing. Hairy upper lips and chin are now prevalent while lashes and brows get skimpier. It’s totally not fair. But with the right tools you can help remedy this problem.

Part of the package I received from Pixi contains this 2-in-1 Brow Duo. The duo is available in 3 shades: Natural Brown which is a “suit all adjustable brown”, Deep Brunette (dark brown) and Soft Black ($16).

Pixi Brow Duo in Natural Brown

Pixi Brow Duo in Natural Brown

One side is a pencil and the other side is a brow gel. I struggle with my brows and once I got the hang of using this I’ve been enjoying this duo so much.

Pixi Natural Brow Duo pencil end

Pixi Natural Brow Duo pencil end

You’ve seen the shape of this pencil before so it’s not totally revolutionary. There’s a reason why you’ve seen it – it’s a perfect shape to help fill in your brows. It has a slanted wind up pencil that needs to be warmed up a little before applying. When you first get this it might seem like there’s not a lot of color but if you rub it on your hand or blow it with your hairdryer you’ll soften it up for easy use.

Pixi Brow Duo gel end spoolie

Pixi Brow Duo gel end spoolie

The opposite end is the spoolie for the Gel side of the duo. This works like a mascara spoolie would and picks up just the right amount of the gel in the tube. Since the brush is relatively small you can really work with it to add a little color, fill in sparse areas, and tame your brows. I’ve been aghast lately at some of my eye shots since I never realized, until too late, that I was starting to look like a balding Groucho.

Pixi Brow Duo in Natural Brown

As you can see the gel is visible but still very light and natural. I’ve used it with other brow products since I received it and it works great with everything.

I’m very happy with my tamed and filled in brows and just have to remember that Practice Makes Perfect. Pixi Beauty is helping me with this. It’s time to get on the Pixi wagon and tame your eyebrows along with me. — Marcia

Happy times with Pixi Beauty in January

Each month Pixi Beauty picks out a variety of cosmetics as their favorites. January’s picks are absolutely amazing. I was thrilled when I received this box of treasures and have been using them non-stop.

Pixi Beauty picks for January

Pixi Beauty picks for January

The products you see are: Correction Concentrate, Gilded Garnet Nail Polish, Natural Brow Duo, Large Lash Mascara, Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush. Each one makes me love Pixi even more than I already did.

Pixi Beauty Correction Concentrate

Pixi Beauty Correction Concentrate

My absolute favorite of these products is Correction Concentrate ($12). This pot of wonder makes such a huge difference under my eyes. In real life I always felt my concealers worked well but in photographs I’d see nothing but darkness under my eyes. I don’t have great photography skills and have to take a dozen or more pictures to get one that’s slightly passable. Once I started using this soft peach I noticed that my undereyes looked brighter. The pot is small but potent. Once I can’t get my finger in I’ll use a brush since I want to use every drop of this wonderful product.

Speaking of brushes, the Flat Liner Brush ($12) has more than one job. Yes you can use it as a push brush for eyelining but you can also use this for the Correction Concentrate. Use it to dab the corrector under your eyes to hide all the sins.

Pixi Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush

Pixi Beauty Large Lash Mascara ($16) is one of two mascaras that Petra has created. This one has an oversized brush to pick up all your lashes. Not only is this a lengthening mascara but it adds great volume yet isn’t clumpy at all. It has all the attributes you want in a mascara – no clumping, no flaking, no raccoon eyes – all you get are beautifully defined lashes.

Pixi is also featuring their Lash & Brow Brush ($8). I love having a brush like this because it does double duty. I like using it to brush my lashes before I apply mascara. That insures an even look and makes sure my lashes aren’t sticking together. The bristles on the brush are well spaced out making it a more effective brush. My other use for this brush is for my eyebrows. It tames them and also helps distribute color through my brows more evenly.

Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush

Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush

Pixi’s Natural Brow Duo is getting its own post later today, that’s how much I have to say about it. What you need to know now though is that this has two sides – a waterproof brow pencil and a tinted soft-hold brow gel. With my new brow obsession, this is a fab product for me to be using.

I love when Pixi sends nail polish and the one they sent this month proves why. Gilded Garnet ($8) is one of their newest polishes and it’s a winner. It’s described as a deep burnished maroon with gold shimmer. I see it as more of a brown in most lights, a cinnamon brown, with some subtle gold shimmer in bright lights.

Every one of these 6 pieces are ones you want in your makeup collection. I’m loving Gilded Garnet Nail color as it’s a great fall and winter shade; I am mad about the Correction Concentrate and want to own one of these forever; and the Natural Brow Duo is getting a lot of admiration around here.
