The magic word in skin care these days is ‘peptides’. Peptides are cell-communicating ingredients that act as a messenger to the different cells, providing information for healing wounds, irritation, and inflammation. If peptides have the right base formula and are in the right packaging – meaning an airless pump – they are an extremely effective ingredient. Apothederm sent the BIZ their Hydrating Eye Cream ($40) to test and with something called SmartPeptide® technology inside I was definitely intrigued. Who couldn’t use a little magic around the eye area?
There is a lot of science that goes into a great eye cream. The SmartPeptide® technology is a combination of peptides (Hexapeptide-21) that help to repair skin with a perfect base formula (shea butter) that has moisturizing ingredients that help the peptides penetrate and absorb properly into the skin (glycerin and squalane oil). Here are specifics about the ingredients:
SmartPeptide helps to control visible photoaging while calming and soothing the delicate eye area. It works to stimulate the skin’s own natural repair and regeneration system. Tests have shown that this peptide controls visible signs of photoaging while calming and soothing the skin.
Helps corrects dry, dehydrated skin, leaving it feeling soft and smooth.
A powerful humectant that relieves dehydration by drawing essential moisture into the skin.
An emollient oil replenishes and protects the natural moisture balance of the skin.
The formula for this eye cream is quite elegant and the packaging is perfect – hello, airless pump! With the peptides in the right base, and packaging that keeps them stable, this is one heck of an effective eye cream Apothederm reports that an independent clinical study showed 93% of participants said skin was smoother in 14 days, and 83% reported a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles after 14 days.
This eye cream is quite rich, a little goes a long way. The bottle lasts a long time and I am loving the results. It leaves my under eye area plump, hydrated, and younger looking. I can certainly say it has lessened the look of my fine lines, and it does a great job of reducing puffiness and inflammation. I think Apothederm’s Hydrating Eye Cream is definitely a winner.
