Spring blush the Makeup Wars way

Spring blush favorites

Spring blush favorites

Makeup Wars is back to redden your cheeks, bring a flush to your face and enchant you with beautiful blush. We’ve picked some of our favorites that are gracing our cheeks this spring and into the summer. I’ve chosen 9 but I could have chosen 90 most likely.

If you are a Beauty Info Zone reader then you know that I love cream blush. I’m much more likely to buy a cream blush than a powder one so I’m starting with my springiest creams.

1. Tarte cheek stains come in 8 shades and you’ll have a tough time picking out a favorite. I chose Fearless since that’s the one I’ve been using the most lately. It’s a pinky coral and seems to look great with almost every eye look I choose.

2. Maybelline Master Glaze Cream Blush Stick in Pink Fever is my version of Radiant Orchid in a blush. It’s one of the best buys of the year for me since I love the longevity of the product, the perky color and the price. I need to pick up more of these.

3. Face Stockholm Creme Blush in London is getting a lot of love these days. I took a new picture for this review but I’ve used it so much that it looked raggedy. It’s a papaya shade that looks super bright in pictures and swatches but not on my face. I use a light touch when applying this long lasting color.

4. Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Poppy Paradise is a blush that just doesn’t want to swatch for me. It’s described as ‘warm toned hot pink’ which is a great, if confusing, description. It feels cooling when you apply it. The Cheek Gelee can be used alone or as a stain to wear under a powder if you find blush fades on you. I just might have purchased Pink Escape during the Sephora 15% off sale.

5. Make Up For Ever HD Second Skin Cream Blush in 210 but I easily could have picked 225 and 330 since the 3 I have are scrumptious. I love the colors of these. They are so smooth and as Lisa said “DREAMY”. We’ve reviewed 6 of these and can’t praise them enough. Find a color (or 5) that you love and you’ll never be sorry.

I’m no slacker when it comes to powder blush and have a small mountain of those too. The 4 I’ve chosen are the ones I’m finding most versatile for spring.

6. TheBalm InStain in Argyle is my latest buy. I purchased it from Hautelook and will purchase more the next time they are on sale. I love the color of Argyle (petal pink) and I love not only how smoothly it applies but it has amazing longevity. It does have stain-like qualities. The pigmentation is intense even though Argyle is the lightest shade available.

7. Tarina Tarantino Dollskin Cheek in Parasol is absolutely beautious. I constantly express my love for the Dollskin Cream blushes so I was excited to receive this powder blush. It’s as amazing as the cream blushes. Parasol is so soft and cream like. It has a gorgeous glow to it. Tarina Tarantino describes it as shimmering bright pink coral. I describe it as beautiful.

8. Senna Sheer Face Color in Pink Diva is the sweetest pink of the group. When I want a pink that’s pink this is what I pick. While the name says sheer, the blush isn’t sheer. It’s loaded with cool tones of pinkness.

9. Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Intensity Cheek Color in A Little Toasted doesn’t appear to be a blush you’d choose for spring but it’s great for that very reason. I sometimes need a very neutral shade and this is a neutral. There’s a brownish mauve tinge to it that was hard to capture but it’s there. It’s almost like a contour color for my fair skin.

Eyeliner delight with Eddie Funkhouser

If you follow me on Beauty Info Zone you probably know I’m obsessed with eyeliners. I’ve been trying to write reviews about the different ones I’ve been trying since I have a goal to find the ultimate liquid eyeliner. In a way it was Eddie Funkhouser that started me on this quest. I fell totally in love with his Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus. I wanted to see if there was a brown liquid eyeliner that I could love as much. So far it’s no go. This is still a fun quest and I’m finding lots of eyeliners, liquid and pencil especially, that I’m enjoying a lot.eddie funkhouser liners in box

Imagine my surprise when on Valentine’s Day I received a box from Eddie Funkhouser that contained two eyeliners. It’s like he could read my mind. Other than a diamond ring there’s nothing better than a few new eyeliners to try. (I’m the princess of exaggeration).

Eddie Funkhouser Graffiti Cream Eye Pencil and Graffiti Liquid Liner

Eddie Funkhouser Graffiti Cream Eye Pencil and Graffiti Liquid Liner

Eddie Funkhouser Graffiti Cream Eye Pencil and Graffiti Liquid Liner are my latest and greatest toys. Graffiti Cream Eye Pencil ($10.49) comes in one color – Absolute Black. But it’s not just black, it’s black black and more black. This deep dark color applies smoothly and evenly lining your eyes in one easy stroke. Because it’s a cream eyeliner pencil you have time to smudge so Eddie made it very easy for you and included a smudger on the opposite end of the pencil. This is a twist-up pencil which also has a built in sharpener.

The pencil is great in 3 special ways: 1) as a dark black eyeliner pencil that doesn’t travel to give you raccoon eyes, 2) as a smokey liner when you smudge it and 3) as a black liner to go with the Graffiti Liquid Liners. What they recommend is to apply the Graffiti Cream Eyeliner without smudging and then apply a line of one of the bright colors of Graffiti Liquid Liners right above and out. This makes for an amazing cat eye especially.

Eddie Funkhouser Graffiti Liquid Liner is one fun eyeliner ($9.99). It’s available in three outstanding shades that fit the Eddie Funkhouser line perfectly. I have HAZE which you can see is a gorgeous metallic grape, there’s sparkle in it that’s both purple and red. You’d think it would be totally out there for a woman of my age but it makes for a gorgeous look, especially with soft shadows. There’s also INDICA (metallic ocean grown blue) and KUSH (Metallic harvest green).

Step one is to clean off the brush since too much can come out. I like to wipe it on the edge as I pull it out and make sure it looks even on the brush. If I don’t do that I’ll get an uneven application – see photo below.

The goal with the Graffiti Liquid Liners is to add beautiful, hologram-inspired impact to eyes for an amazing accent of multidimensional, fashion-forward color. This is a fun eyeliner for me to use when I want to add a little more zap to my life. I’m not going to wear purple metallic liner in my everyday life but weekends are meant for a great dinner out and a little excitement.

Speaking of excitement, blush.com now carries Eddie Funkhouser. I’m overjoyed about this discovery. Not only can I get free shipping and Ebates but I can get my thrill of Eddie any time I want.

An online romance or true love? Let’s ask Eddie Funkhouser…

Once upon a time there was a woman named Marcia and a man named Eddie. Somehow Eddie learned about Marcia and he started to court her. He was a makeup artist and he knew that Marcia loved makeup, especially eye makeup. So he had his friends contact her and offer to send her a few cosmetic items. Marcia, being leery of online romances, investigated him and found out his name was Eddie Funkhouser and he was a legitimate artist as well as cosmetic creator. He was starting his own line which interested her a lot. So she allowed them to send a few things.

The first item she tried was the Eddie Funkhouser Quattro Variable Lash Mascara. This hit her hard. She was falling under Eddie’s spell just from one product. She let him know and wrote him a letter expressing her love and excitement about what he was doing. She contacted him on Facebook and let him know there too. He was nice and so much fun but he couldn’t tell her when she’d be able to buy another one.

Eddie Funkhouser Ultra Definition Eye Lining Stylus

Months went by and Marcia was now using his Ultra Defining Eye Lining Stylus all the time. This liquid eyeliner had taken her love for Eddie and his mascara to a new level. She was chomping at the bits waiting to purchase these 2 products. At last the day came, 11/7/13, a day she can’t forget since she instantly went online and placed an order. Her mascara was long gone and she had nightmares about finishing up or losing her Eye Lining Stylus so she ordered those. And with Marcia being infatuated with eyeshadows she had to buy some of those too, she knew that would make Eddie happy.

Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Eye Color

Eddie Funkhouser Hyperreal Eye Color

And that’s where we are in this article – Hyperreal Eye Color ($8.49 each). Choosing colors online isn’t the easiest thing so it took her a long time to make up her mind. What she ended up with was THE BENJAMINS, described as a shimmering dark forest green, and NEW BOHEME, described as a shimmering forest green. These shades aren’t exactly forest greens, at least the forests that she’s been to, but describing the shades isn’t the easiest thing to do. New Boheme is lighter than most forest greens, it’s a midtone green that has a satiny finish. The Benjamins has more blue to it and is more of a spruce green; it has a light amount of shimmer that’s not the least bit overwhelming.

When you open these pans you can see a glitter to them but they don’t translate that way on the eye. It is important to use an eyeshadow primer with these so that they’ll last longer and be more vibrant. Unfortunately the website doesn’t enlarge the shadows so you can see them more clearly. Marcia is going to have to write to Eddie about this! The eyeshadows layer really well.

This romance is still in the beginning stages. With 12 total eyeshadows to explore, Marcia feels that there are a lot more dates to come. And of course she wants to know more about Eddie and his blushes, foundation, and lip products. The two of them are into this for the long run. At the current time they are keeping the relationship online at the Eddie Funkhouser website. Marcia is anxiously awaiting the appearance of Eddie at more Rite Aid stores and at Urban Outfitters. She knows that if Eddie is in town she’ll be the first to run into his arms and flutter her lashes at him. She’s sure that he’s awaiting that day too.

A letter to Eddie Funkhouser regarding Quattro Variable Lash Mascara

Dear Eddie Funkhouser,

Please don’t take offense but until about a month ago I’d never heard of you. I didn’t know you were an acclaimed makeup artist.  I didn’t know you were from Australia. I didn’t know that you were so adorable either. A PR rep contacted me and asked if I wanted to try out a new “masstige” line that would be featured at Rite Aid. Of course I said yes since my goal is to try out every line available while I can. Then one day in my mail arrived a cute box and three items – a liquid eyeliner, a mascara and a pastel eyeshadow palette. As usual, I waited until I could photograph these in their pristine state and then was able to use them.

I have been so impressed with the mascara that I need a separate post just for this. Eddie Funkhouser Quattro Variable Lash Mascara is one of the best mascaras I’ve ever tried. It’s now in my list of top three mascaras of all time. While I haven’t tried every mascara available Quattro Variable Lash Mascara has made me want to stop buying new ones (not that I will since I am a makeup blogger/junkie after all). Not only does this make my lashes look fantastic but it does tricks. It’s not a one trick pony as they say. Of course you know this but my readers need to know.

Setting two

Setting two

There are 4 settings on the Quattro Variable Lash Mascara as the name implies. The bottom of the tube swivels from one dot to four dots. The more you twist, the more volume you get:

• = Enhance and accentuate lashes while leaving them looking natural

•• = Separate lashes creating fullness and volume

••• = Separate lashes for extra fullness and volume

•••• = Create maximum length, separation and definition

brush on setting 3, notice the twist

I started with one dot, went to two and now switch between two & three. On nights out though I can pump it up to four dots to create the ultimate in Eddie Funkhouser eyelashes. As you twist the dial to a new number the brush changes. Setting 1 you saw a straight brush, now in setting 3 you see how the brush has turned so you get a different type of application.

this is setting 2 on me

this is setting 2 on me

As far as I know this isn’t a tubing mascara but when I go to remove it I do find bits of it on my face. I always use a specific eye makeup remover with it since the color is so intense that I want to take it off gently. With a cotton square and eye makeup remover it comes off easily but I don’t think water alone would be enough. funkhauser mascara closed

Eddie, I can’t wait until this is online and at my local Rite Aid store. For $12.99 (but hopefully sales) I’ll be buying this for sure. When I have no smudging even by the end of the day, when I still have curl at the end of the day, and when I have lashes that I can intensify as needed then I think I’ve found a keeper. Thanks for creating something so wonderful.

Your friend,

Marcia of Beauty Info Zone
