My loves, likes, and dislikes

I thought it was very interesting that the selections Wantable sent me this month include three pairs of earrings, even though earrings are in my ‘like’ section.    But you know, I have bracelets, watches, and rings all in the ‘dislike’ section, so I guess I have limited categories from which the stylists can pull.  I am going to do some major surgery on my preference list for next month.  Regardless, every piece in my September box is a winner and I am extremely happy with my selections.

Carly Headband

Carly Headband

The Carly Headband (retails for $14) is two beaded strands of alternating pearls and beads on an elastic band.  The band is very comfortable, and the silver beads and pearls show up nicely on my brown hair.  Often I find elastic headbands sort of collapse on me and slide off, but this one stays in place and doesn’t hurt my head.  Color me happy!

Gracie Earrings

Gracie Earrings

The Gracie Earrings (retails for $15) have a dangling trio of shimmery silver hoops.  These are so much prettier in person, photos just don’t do them justice.  They are very delicate but attention-grabbing at the same time.

Faye Earrings

The Faye Earrings (retails for $22) are small but thick silver hoops with sparkling rhinestones.  These are very expensive looking, the rhinestones are quite convincing!  This is a perfect pair of classic hoops that will go with anything – definite anchor earrings to strengthen a jewelry assortment.

June Stud Earrings (retails for $41) are truly beautiful studs from Cate & Chloe.  Even the box is to die for!  I am seeing versions of these knotted mesh studs everywhere, and this silver pair is elegant and intriguing.  They are a little heavy for my second piercing, but Lobe Wonder (a miracle product that takes the pressure off ear lobes so heavier earrings hang perfectly) takes care of that.  I love these paired with the Faye Earrings, or with the Gracie Earrings for contrast.

Even though I didn’t have a wide assortment of type of jewelry, the pieces I received are top-notch and in styles I love.  Plus, Wantable is still an amazing value – this $36 subscription box has a retail value of $92.  If you haven’t signed up yet, now is the time for Wantable to pump up your fall accessory wardrobe.  - Lisa

Stunning eco-friendly laser cut jewelry by Joyo

Joyo 2My favorite quote of all time is from architect Frank Lloyd Wright.  He said, “Give me the luxuries of life and I will willingly do without the necessities.”  Now those are words to live by!  His architecture inspires me because it is based on patterns found in nature.   I have found that same inspiration in the super chic and exquisitely designed laser cut jewelry from Joyo which was sent to us for review.

Joyo founder and creator Jenn Liddiard

Joyo founder and creator Jenn Liddiard

The creator behind Joyo is the gorgeous artist Jenn Liddiard.  Jenn makes every single piece of her jewelry collection by hand.  That means she creates the patterns, laser cuts the wood, then sands, oils, and assembles every single accessory.  You can feel the love in this jewelry – it is palpable.

The designs are based on geometrical and natural patterns, and she uses natural materials like wood.  Check out the Baroque Earrings ($45).

The Baroque Earrings have a pattern based on the ornate detail found in late 17th and 18th century architecture.  My pair has 14k gold filled ear wires; sterling silver is also an option.  There are two different wood type options as well, walnut and birch wood.

The length is 2.75″ with a 2″ drop and 1.5″ width.  The laser cut of these is fascinating, and the earrings are feather light.  They truly are works of art.

The stunning Baroque Earrings are just a small peek at the laser-cut jewelry Joyo offers.  There are many other earring designs, as well as laser cut, eco-friendly bracelets and necklaces that will become the focal point of any outfit.  Joyo Jewelry can be found in boutiques and is also available at the online store.  - Lisa

Transitioning into fall with the Wantable August Accessories Box

For August,Wantable paired up with Rachel Weiland for picks that transition from the dog days of summer into the cooler autumn months. Trends include hard metallics, sparkling beads, and vintage flair. Wantable sent a great box that is all about layering pieces, pairing up different lengths to play with focal points and create unique looks.

Wantable August Accessories Box

Wantable August Accessories Box

My August Accessories Box has four – or five, really, since it’s two pairs of earrings – items with a total retail value of $93. That’s beyond awesome for a $36 subscription price, and I am extremely happy with every piece (although the sunglasses are on the large side for my face.)

My favorite items are the Cece Earrings (retails for $12). I am head over heels in love with this pair of posts.

Cece Earrings

I am astounded that these only have a $12 retail value because they have a very expensive look and feel. The hamsa symbol earrings have pale blue stones. If you aren’t familiar with the symbol, it’s an ancient symbol for magical protection. Since I like to always have all bases covered, I am totally down with that. The hamsa posts are paired with pretty peach stone posts – they look terrific together.

The Karleigh Scarf

The Karleigh Scarf

The Karleigh Scarf ($18 value) is a lightweight infinity scarf. It has a feather print and beautiful shades of black, tan, blue, and taupe. This is a great scarf that is light enough for summer but will also work until the snow flies.

The most expensive item in my August box is the Ettika Triple Faceted Ring Bead Chain Necklace (retail value $45). It has a short gold chain with three faceted beads. This is a classic yet unique necklace that is a great staple for any accessory wardrobe. It’s great on its own or layered with one or two longer necklaces.

The Bryn Sunglasses (retail value $18) are the final item in my August box.

These sunglasses have a really interesting black and brown pattern on the frames – you can see the that the pattern sort of morphs from spots into stripes. These are definitely ‘Jackie O’ style frames with major coverage. While they really are big for my face, these are the sunglasses I will reach for whenever I have a headache and have to go out in the sun.

I like the little gold fleur-de-lis on the stem along with the earrings. In fact, this a box of accessories that can all be worn at the same time.

I am definitely happy with my Wantable August Accessories Box, the best value I have received so far at $93. If you love accessories or need to build up your wardrobe, I have no doubt that this is the best subscription box out there.  - Lisa

Fashionistas rejoice! The Wantable July Accessories Box

My Wantable July Accesorries Box has made me very happy with four summer accessories that totally perk up my warm weather jewelry and hair collection. The selection Wantable sent the BIZ this month is pretty terrific.

For July, all four pieces definitely fit my preferences – I love sunglasses, hair accessories, drop earrings, and statement necklaces. Trends this month include Aztec influences, gold, and turquoise.

The Aubree Sunglasses

The Aubree Sunglasses (retail value $18) have a cool, funky print – pixellated chevron. You can’t go wrong with the wayfarer shape. These are absolute perfection for the beach.

The Valarie Headband (retail value $14) is one of the few classic pieces I have gotten from Wantable. The black band features a gold and rhinestone jeweled accent that shows up beautifully and works with dressy and casual outfits. It’s a headband that looks great with long, loose locks or with a braid or ponytail.

The Carlisle Earrings

The Carlisle Earrings

The Carlisle Earrings (retail value $16) are delightful gold tone drop earrings with faceted turquoise colored stones. Talk about boho heaven! These stunning earrings work great with a loose summer dress and a casual, messy bun.

My favorite item in my Wantable Accessory Boxes tends to always be the necklace and this month is no exception. The Amber Necklace (retail value $42) is dazzling…photos really don’t do it justice. Distressed gold tone tabs are accented with light and dark green jewels. It’s a fashionista’s dream necklace.

The total value for this month’s box is $90…truly a great value for a $36 box. Wantable continues to impress the heck out of me. What accessories did you get in your Wantable subscription box this month?   – Lisa

Darling, you look beautiful! Wantable June Accessories review

As we tumble head first into summer, my Wantable June Accessories Subscription Box assures me that I look beautiful. The great news is the goodies in this box definitely help me get there in style!

My preferences

My preferences

This month, I received three pieces that fit my preferences – one hair accessory, one pair of silver earrings, and one necklace. The inspiration for June was centered around favorite summer activities like festivals, barbecues, and lazy days. I am more of a boho babe than a rebellious rocker and my selections certainly reflect my style.

Bri Headband and Miranda Earrings

Bri Headband and Miranda Earrings

Bri Headband

Bri Headband

The Bri Headband (retail value $11) is a twistable diamond wire band covered in a fun, funky print fabric. I love this. Headbands can be too tight giving me a headache, or too loose for my long hair. But this is perfect. I can twist it into any shape, and it holds my hair back with ease. I love the print for summer too – beautiful colors that work at the beach or at the bar.

The Miranda Earrings (retail value $18) are thick, geometric silver earrings with a snap-shut backing.

I love these because my hair doesn’t get stuck in them – earrings with an open enclosure typically are problematic for me. These have a beautiful shape and add class to any outfit. They are a bit heavy for my ear lobes, but I use Lobe Wonder patches and the weight is no issue at all.

My third piece is the Margaery Statement Necklace (retail value $38). I have one word for this:  GORGEOUS.

Sometimes the accessory boxes have four, five, or even six items, but I am really digging the three quality items that arrived this month. Wantable continues to be one of the very best subscription boxes available – this month’s value is $67 for a $38 box. There are many stunning options from one of our favorite online retails stores, Mont Bleu. They have beautiful nail files, Swarovski-encrusted brushes, and jewelry, plus a whole lot more. They ship unbelievably quick, plus they have great prices and their pieces come with certificates of authenticity.

Mont Bleu sent some fantastic gift options for the girl graduate.  Take a look.

The Shamballa Bracelet with Siam Red Beads ($35.04) is a fabulous option that is right on trend. I work at a high school, and the girls just go bananas for these bracelets. The Siam Red crystal beads are embedded in a waxed cord that is woven in a macramé design. The bracelet adjusts so it will fit any size wrist and it comes in a beautiful leatherette box with a certificate of authenticity.

The ring is made with brass that is covered with rhodium, so again there is no worry about allergic reactions.  Not only is the ring stunning, it’s also super practical because it adjusts to any finger. No worries about getting the wrong size!

Here is a comparable ring, the Two Crystals Swarovski Ring, it has rounded stones and this one is only $11.68! Plus it comes in a variety of colors.

Wantable Accessories Box for May 2014

I really, really loved my Wantable Accessories Box for April 2014, so much so that I doubted the one for May could ever live up to it. I got my May box and now the question is…is it all that and a bag of chips? Or is it just all that?

Wantable May

This month, the theme is anticipation for days at the beach, hot summer nights, and evening fairs and festivals. Trends are Boho and bold pastels like mint, coral, and turquoise. It all sounds exactly like me…except somehow the pieces didn’t quite add up to what I was hoping for.  I think a huge factor is that out of the four pieces in my box, three of them were earrings. Don’t get me wrong, I love earrings! But I tend to like a wider variety of things…a hair band or a hair clip would have been awesome. And when you consider I put earrings in my ‘Like’ category…well, three pairs off earrings is puzzling to me.

My loves, likes, and dislikes

The Lori Earrings (retail value $16) are very pretty silver geometric drops framed with rhinestones. I love these – they show up beautifully against my dark hair.

The Sophie Earrings (retail value $18) are opal-ish rectangular stones shot through with black veining that almost looks like a spider web. While I think these are very pretty, they just aren’t my style…they don’t show up at all with my hair color, so I would have to wear them with some sort of updo. I think, however, they will end up as gift for someone who can pull them off much better than I can.

The Titian Earrings (retail value $20) are olive, tan, and grey faceted stones set in gold tone. They are growing on me…I can see them with a flowy white shirt, skinny jeans and black ankle boots.

The Brooklyn Necklace (retail value $29) is by far my favorite piece this month. It is really gorgeous. It’s a mixture of silvery beads and pendants on a dark metal chain. It is a stunning piece that doesn’t overwhelm my smaller frame, and it’s perfect paired with everything from a v-neck t-shirt to a little black dress.

While I loved the selections for this month (and in particular adore that necklace), I have to say that with so many of the same type of jewelry – 3 pairs of earrings – the Wantable Accessories Box for May is just all that. No bag of chips this month.

However, anything I won’t wear will certainly make for a beautiful gift for one of my beautiful friends. The fun of subscription boxes is in the surprise – and in knowing I won’t always love everything.  When I look at the value – $83 for a box that costs $36 – Wantable is most definitely one of the top subscriptions boxes out there. Even though I didn’t get my ‘bag of chips’ this month, Wantable is still my major highlight each month!  - Lisa
