Boxycharm creates Faces of the Moon

boxycharm october card front

What would you expect to find in an October Boxycharm subscription called Faces of the Moon? A little black maybe? After all it is Halloween month. If you don’t know about Boxycharm, it’s a monthly subscription that only sends full size products. At $21 a month you’ll more than get your money’s worth. For example this month’s box is valued at $137. You read that right. I spent $21 and received $137 worth of items. Granted not every product is one I’d choose for myself but as someone who just loves to hold BIZ giveaways, it gives me more to share.

Do you recognize any products in here? My guess is two or three are ones you could name.

Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask

Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask

Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask ($64) is the big ticket item here and the biggest product in the box. If you follow Beauty Info Zone you know that I’m obsessed with masks. This is a relatively new obsession but one that’s fun to experiment with. Palmetto Derma Rejuvenating Antioxidant Mask is an herbal smelling clay mask. It doesn’t dry down completely on my face but it doesn’t stay wet either.

“The soft clay in this mask gently purifies the skin and cleanses pores by absorbing impurities. Its advanced antioxidants defend against free radicals to reverse daily skin damage while its cooling effect refreshes and soothes.” It’s recommended to use this for 15 – 30 minutes. As with all new skincare I start slow and then build up. While this isn’t my favorite mask it’s a nice change and I’m glad to find this in my subscription.

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara

Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara ($24) is a very interesting mascara and a perfect choice for October. I’ve received this before in a subscription and it’s in my current arsenal. If volume is what you want, volume is what you’ll get. The full brush adds extreme volume. It can be messy if you aren’t careful since most of us aren’t used to the Christmas tree shape that’s this large. (This brand new one will be in an upcoming giveaway, the open one is the one I’ve used.)

Lord & Berry Line/Shade Eyeliner

Lord & Berry Line/Shade Eyeliner

Lord & Berry Line/Shade Eyeliner ($18) is … let’s say it together … BLACK. I’m not sure why companies think we need a thousand black eyeliners but they do. The difference with this, according to Boxycharm, is that it’s formulated with kajal and kohl to provide rich, consistent color. It’s also said to be blendable and waterproof. I didn’t swatch it since I’d rather share than open one more black liner.

CULT Cosmetics Nail Polish in Boneyards

CULT Cosmetics Nail Polish in Boneyards

CULT Cosmetics Nail Polish in Boneyards ($12) is the perfect shade for October and the Faces of the Moon. It’s a great shade for Halloween and winter. Boneyards is a versatile, mysterious polish. Enjoy waves of evening grey, whether you’re uptown, downtown, working a weekend or weekday look.”

I love Cult polish and have many in my stash. They wear beautifully on me so this dark grey is very welcome in my life.

Bellapierre Cheek and Lip Stain in Coral

Bellapierre Cheek and Lip Stain in Coral

Bellapierre Cheek and Lip Stain in Coral ($19.99) is a lightweight and oil free product. While the name is Coral, it’s more like a soft warm pink on me. Bellapierre is a mineral makeup brand. The other shade that Bellapierre created this in is a cool pink. The only negative for me about this is the size of the pot. I have a lot of trouble picking up product with my finger in something this size so a brush is a necessity. It’s easy to apply though and if my lips are primed I can wear this on them. I prefer it as a cream blush but sometimes you need to carry less around and this fits that need.

Top Ten Mascaras for 2015

Beautysets - Top Ten Mascaras
What a tricky topic this is. Beside the choice of color for a lipstick, I think mascara is the hardest product to agree on. Our eyes are so different as is what we are looking for in a mascara. What’s one person’s “OMG” is another person’s “You like that???”. Here are 10 of my latest OMG mascaras. Some are new to me and some you’ve seen over and over again but a little reminder can’t hurt.
I did my list in order of the price of the mascara not in order of the love of it.
1.  MILANI TOTAL LASH COVER ($4.99) is one I pick up every time I notice a BOGO sale. I love how this mascara makes my eyelashes look and I love the price. It’s always sold out and there’s a reason for that.
2.  MAYBELLINE LASH SENSATION ($8.99) is one I can’t resist even though it’s a bear to remove. But the look is so lush that I can’t help but love it. Just have a good eye makeup remover handy.

3.  RIMMEL WONDERLASH ($8.99*) is a new one for me. I’m still on my first tube of it but I’ll buy it again. It’s a great everyday mascara that makes my lashes look full and comes off with ease.

Rimmel London Wonderlash

4.  EDDIE FUNKHOUSER QUATRO VARIABLE LASH ($12.99) is one you’ve seen a “few” times. I’ve bought so many of these and still have one left. When some of my stash is used up, Eddie will be back in my cart without a doubt. This is a mascara for everyone since there are 4 variable settings you can use depending on how much volume you are interested in. Just turn the knob and you get fuller and fuller lashes. I keep mine on the 3rd one.

5. BAREMINERALS LASH DOMINATION ($18) was sent for review originally. I love the way this applies and already bought a new one. This is another that looks great all day and removes easily at night.

BareMinerals Lash Domination

6.  TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA ($23) gives me the false eyelash look I want. It could easily be my number one favorite. Lash lashes that aren’t crunchy, length, volume. It’s got it all.

7.  IT COSMETICS HELLO LASHES ($23), my list wouldn’t be complete without Hello Lashes. My original one came in a set that was sent and since then I’ve bought it half a dozen times.

8.  DOUCCE PUNK VOLUMIZER ($24*) was in one of my recent Wantable boxes and it caught me by surprise. It’s so not me but I can’t help but like it. I don’t know if I’d buy it again but the novelty of having a very volumizing mascara is fun for me. It’s truly a night mascara since I don’t usually have “out there” lashes.

9.  CHARLOTTE TILBURY ‘FULL FAT LASHES’ 5 STAR MASCARA ($29) is my luxury choice. It’s one of the products that I was most excited to get from Charlotte Tilbury and I’m not disappointed with how great my lashes look when wearing it.

10.  MDMflow GREATER THAN MASCARA (approximately $33) was in my Boxycharm box from July. I wasn’t so sure about this new UK mascara but I stuck with it and I really like it. I’m glad it was in my subscription though I’m not sure if I’d repurchase. But I do like it and it needed to be in my list.

Would you want some Wantable cosmetics? Of course you would.

Wantable Cosmetics for July 2015

Wantable Cosmetics for July 2015

Each month WANTABLE SUBSCRIPTIONS delivers unique boxes to their subscribers. While Lisa loves the Intimates and Accessory boxes, I am truly a Cosmetic maven and that’s the box that I love getting from them (pr sample). Whenever I see a Wantable review online I like to read it to see what they sent to the subscriber and I’ve yet to find a duplicate among them. One thing I have noticed for the last few months is that the brand DOUCCE has made a big appearance. I’ve received three different Doucce products and other than the fragrance of the lipstick each has been a great addition to my cosmetic wardrobe.

The one thing that surprised me this month is that I received two items very similar to my June box. I was a bit put off at first but when I went to use them I realized just how much I liked the additions for July. In June I received a Doucce black liquid eyeliner and this month I received a Frankie Rose gel eyeliner in black. June and July brought me mascaras but they are as different as can be. The Chella Water Resistant mascara from June is great for a daily mascara while the Doucce mascara is wild and crazy (and a great look).

Doucce Volumizer Mascara in black

Doucce Volumizer Mascara in black

DOUCCE VOLUMIZER MASCARA is called PUNK VOLUMIZER MASCARA on the box. I was intrigued and frightened at the same time. At my age the word Punk isn’t in my personal vocabulary but what was the harm of trying this? Doucce says this mascara defines lashes one by one making them thicker and adding spectacular volume. My puny (unpunklike) lashes actually did end up with spectacular volume. I can only imagine what they’d do for someone who had great lashes to begin with. This is NOT a mascara I could wear daily because it eventually flakes on me but when I’m going out at night and just have a few hours, it’s definitely a go. The retail price of this mascara is $24. If I were to return it (which I won’t) Wantable would refund $10.67 towards my next box.

Frankie Rose Limitless Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Midnight

Frankie Rose Limitless Waterproof Gel Eyeliner in Midnight

I wear eyeliner every day of my life though I wear brown more than black. I was a little upset with another black eyeliner until I tried FRANKIE ROSE COSMETICS WATERPROOF GEL EYELINER in MIDNIGHT. This gel eyeliner is incredibly smooth and applies like a dream. It’s a rich dark shade that’s smudge proof and waterproof. When I use this I’ll use Reviva Labs Eye Makeup Remover to get it off. It won’t wash off but it’s doesn’t stain. I’m a fan of Frankie Rose Cosmetics so whatever Wantable wants to send me from the brand is wonderful. The eyeliner comes with a small brush (2 1/4 inch closed) that opens to 3 1/2 inches. I prefer my own brush but this is pretty decent. Like the Doucce mascara the price is $24 with my price being $10.67.

Manna Katar Eyeshadow Stick in Spellbound

Manna Katar Eyeshadow Stick in Spellbound

MANNA KADAR EYESHADOW STICK IN SPELLBOUND is the third item and one I was excited to see. If it’s eyeshadow then I want it. What’s not to love about a taupe eyeshadow? Welllllll – it’s sparkle city. But it’s not the kind of sparkle that falls down on the job. Once I put this eyeshadow crayon on everything stays where I put it. It sets quickly and there’s absolutely no fallout. My cheeks and under eyes don’t end up glittery. This $24 eyeshadow is great with the punk look of the mascara so these will be a couple. And I’ll do my eyebrows next time I wear them – oops.

The last item in my box is a SETA Eyeshadow Brush. This brush brand is new to me. I have Tools listed under my Love column in my preferences so I’m always happy to find a brush, especially one for my eyes, inside. This pretty teal brush is firm yet soft and is manmade and costs $18 (return value $8) but I couldn’t find any more information about the company.

This month’s Wantable Cosmetic box has a value of $90 so you’d come out ahead with this $40 box. If you kept all the items then you’d have a $4 credit and next month’s box would be $36. Wantable has been sending out cosmetics for a few years now and they just keep making some great choices. When you are thinking of a subscription, think Wantable. — Marcia
