Conceal, correct, and contour with Pixi by Petra

Pixi Beauty Contour and Conceal

Pixi by Petra Correct, Contour and Conceal

There is a saying, ‘you are only as sick as your secrets’. While in general it’s not healthy to have secrets (and goodness knows I have subjected you all to way too many photos of me wearing absolutely no makeup) I have many skin issues that I prefer to keep covered up. Lately my favorite enablers have been the products that Pixi Beauty sent me to test.

Pixi by Petra Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach and Concealing Concentrate in Adaptable Beige

Pixi by Petra Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach and Concealing Concentrate in Adaptable Beige

Pixi has a great concealer for blemishes and undereye circles, as well as a terrific color corrector that I love for covering up red areas. The Concealing Concentrate in Adaptable Beige ($12) is a small glass pot of neutral beige concealer. The concealer is indeed concentrated, with tons of pigment so you only need a small amount for complete coverag.  My problem with many concealers is they just don’t last…after a few hours, my dark circles are showing. I don’t have that problem with the Concealing Concentrate; it truly lasts all day. It’s waterproof and has a matte finish that doesn’t settle into fine lines. It also has lots of ingredients that skin loves, like vitamins A, C, and E.  My only beef is the packaging. The jar opening is very small, so it’s pretty impossible to use your fingers and even a concealer brush is a challenge. Besides that issue, I think this is a winning concealer.

The Correction Concentrate in Peach ($12) is very similar. It’s the same formula but in a brightening soft peach shade. Petra says this is “My secret to looking like I’ve had a restful night’s sleep! This dense corrective concealer blends seamlessly into the skin while instantly erasing stubborn darkness.” This is a great option if you have red areas you want to conceal and correct.

Pixi by Petra Natural Contour Powder Shape and Shadow

Pixi by Petra Natural Contour Powder Shape and Shadow

I am also a big fan of the Natural Contour Powder ($20). This is a natural looking matte contour powder. While the color looks quite deep, I don’t worry about overdoing it since it sheers out easily and any mistakes can be quickly corrected. The ingredients are great, with peptides, multi-vitamins, aloe vera, super fruit and coffee extracts. Thanks to the aloe vera, this a nice creamy powder that blends in beautifully with skin. It’s a very impressive contour powder.

While keeping secrets isn’t always the healthiest way to go, when it comes to cosmetics I think that secrets are a girl’s best friend. Pixi has some excellent products that are really great for concealing, correcting, and contouring. Be sure to check them out next time you are at Target.  – Lisa

Adding to your concealer wardrobe with Mally Beauty

Have you heard the term “concealer wardrobe”? It’s part of the new lingo that beauty buffs are using in describing beauty techniques. A concealer wardrobe is just like your clothes wardrobe but it is all about concealers and correctors. Just like you don’t usually wear the same undergarments every day, you shouldn’t necessarily wear the same products under your foundation. Part of a concealer wardrobe is knowing the best product for the job. Concealers are not a “one size fits all” type of beauty product.

Beauty Info Zone was happy when Mally Beauty shared an amazing concealer with us so that we can show you what’s been added to our concealer wardrobes and what we like about these babies.

MARCIA and MALLY BEAUTY DARK CIRCLE CORRECTOR in LIGHTER

The Dark Circle Corrector is available on QVC as a set of two for $30.  You can find it HERE.

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter

The Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter is like a magic wand for me. It has an applicator that’s like a shower head, twist and the concealer/corrector squiggles out. I love that I can control the amount that I need.

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter

Here’s how I cocktail this: I start with a peach cream corrector shade under my eyes similar in shade to Mally Beauty Cancellation Concealer. Once that’s blended I then apply Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter as seen below.

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter application method

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter application method

Blend that with a concealer brush or a the skinny tip of a Beauty Blender and I’m concealed for the day. It’s amazing how great this combination works to cover my dark circles.

Mally Dark Circle Corrector in Lighter blended

From what I’ve read this was formulated with a special brightening pigment that helps disguise colors like red, blue, purple or darkness under your eyes. It brightens your undereye area so that nothing plagues your look. I’m thrilled to have this addition to my concealer wardrobe.

LISA’S SIDE

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia…as usual you are RIGHT!!!!!!! I love this concealer too – it is freaking amazing. In fact it has become my favorite concealer ever. I even brought it to work one day to show my coworkers.

Mally Dark Circle Corrector

Mally Dark Circle Corrector

I have very dark under eye circles so I tend to gravitate toward heavy concealers. I need lots of coverage and lots of light reflection, otherwise I look perpetually tired. I thought the Mally Dark Circle Corrector was not going to have enough coverage since it’s a very lightweight cream, but it totally surprised me.

Mally Dark Circle Corrector

I dot this on underneath my eyes, and also smooth some under my eyebrows and down the center of my nose. It blends in beautifully with the Mally Foundation Brush and really covers those dark circles! I love it with the Mally Face Defender BB Cream as my foundation (I reviewed both of these HERE).

By the way, I have skin that is just shy of MEDIUM, and I use the concealer in the shade Lighter. Right now it looks like the concealer is only available in the shade Darker. I don’t know if that’s because Lighter is sold out, but I think the colors are all pretty forgiving. We hope what is available works for you, because we’d love for you to have the same great experience we have had!

Becca Radiant Glow Collection is highlighting fun in a box

BECCA Radiant Glow Collection

BECCA Radiant Glow Collection

Ladies, you need this special edition BECCA RADIANT GLOW COLLECTION before it’s gone. This is an Ulta exclusive that I’m so happy I picked up. Everything in this collection is going to make you glisten and glow. For $32 you’ll find 4 delights that will make you crave more Becca.

BECCA Radiant Glow Collection products

BECCA Radiant Glow Collection products

I bought it on a whim and I’m glad the whim paid off. One of my very favorite products is BECCA UNDER EYE BRIGHTENING CORRECTOR. I like it so much that I was considering buying a backup when I spotted the kit. It contains a 1 oz. size of the corrector. While the jar is considerably smaller it’s just as wonderful and perfect for on the go (or as my backup). This is a luminous light peach corrector that I apply under my eyes before any concealer or foundation. It opens my eyes up making me look more rested.

BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector

BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector

The second product that I really was eager to try is the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone. As you know it’s all about the glow lately and Becca is one of the top brands for that. This 0.085 oz deluxe mini is big enough to get your brush in so it’s easy to use. Moonstone is a pale gold that’s absolutely luminous. The pigmentation is there without being heavy at all. I can control the amount of shimmer that shows depending on the brush I use. This is perfect for me in the spots that need to brighten me up without making me look like I need to go out dancing. A full size is $38 so it’s a perfect way to try before you buy. Shimmering Skin Perfectors come in 4 shades with Moonstone being the lightest.

The Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight in Opal wasn’t even on my radar before. A full size is $41 so having the opportunity to try this is perfect. There are 5 shades with Opal being in the middle of the pack and considered the most universal of the shades. It’s described as a golden opal pearl. The 0.17 oz wand looks like a concealer but instead it’s a beautiful radiant cream that you’ll want to use strategically. Put a little at the top of your cheekbones or on the cupid’s bow of your lips to bring out a touch of radiance. How I wish I could get Pearl and Moonstone in this packaging.

The last item in the collection is stunning but it’s not a Marcia color so I’ll save it for an upcoming giveaway. Beach Tint Shimmer Lip Souffle in Raspberry Opal is a full size gloss ($24). Here’s what Ulta has to say about it: “BECCA Beach Tint Lip Shimmer Soufflé is a double dose of pigment and shimmer. This lightweight, marbled gloss melts beautifully into the lips. The satiny-soft texture drenches lips in hydrating color, while brown algae extract smooths and softens for sophisticated shine that lasts for hours.”

Can you see why I’m so excited about this set? It’s considered to be a $70 value and it’s well worth the $32 it costs. I saw about a dozen boxes of it at my Ulta store and it’s still online so maybe you should grab this now. There’s also another set called Shimmering Skin Perfector Glow on the Go for $20 containing both of the Shimmering Skin Perfectors in the shade Opal. Should I cave in and buy that? Would you? — Marcia

Makeup Wars – making up your undereyes

Makeup Wars - under eye products of the month

Makeup Wars – under eye products of the month

What products do you have use that are strictly for under your eyes? What products do you have that will multi-task so that you can use them under your eyes and elsewhere on your face? That’s what this week’s Makeup Wars is taking on. I went through my drawer that I keep most of my concealers in and pulled out what you see in the above picture. These are the items that are in current use but oh baby, there are more. Let’s take a look though to see what Marcia’s eyes are sporting these days.

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum and Sustainable Youth Anytime Lift Eye Treatment with alasta

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum and Sustainable Youth Anytime Lift Eye Treatment with alasta

I had to start with the eye serums that I’m using lately. I didn’t really realize until I took my pictures that I was using an eye serum day and night. In the morning I’m using SUSTAINABLE YOUTH ANYTIME LIFT EYE TREATMENT with ALASTA*. I’ve chosen that for mornings because it doesn’t interfere with makeup and it helps with puffiness and dark circles. At night I’m loving ATAL ADVANTAGE VELVET EYE SERUM* which will get a complete review soon.

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum and Sustainable Youth Anytime Lift Eye Treatment with alasta

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum and Sustainable Youth Anytime Lift Eye Treatment with alasta

ATAL Advantage Velvet Eye Serum is a cross between a serum and an eye cream. I took to this like a duck takes to water. I’m loving how the ingredients are helping to moisturize my undereye area and fighting my fine lines.

Next are my correctors. At the moment I’m going between two different ones. PIXI CORRECTION CONCENTRATE in BRIGHTENING PEACH* and BECCA UNDER EYE BRIGHTENING CORRECTOR.

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

PIXI Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach is a thicker product and needs an eye cream under it to make it go on smoothly. This really does a great job of cancelling out dark circles. I always use a foundation with this since it can look a little too peach otherwise on my fair complexion.

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

Pixi Correction Concentrate and Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector

BECCA Under Eye Brightening Corrector is a softer product. The texture is creamier so it glides on easily and the color is more brightening. The price difference is substantial ($12 and $29) so if you are on a budget go with Pixi.

I can’t seem to get enough concealers, it’s one of my weaknesses. While I chose 6 here there are more that I use and love. I use all of these concealers under my eyes and some I’ll use elsewhere on my face too. When we leave the house at night the first thing I do is grab a concealer and fix my face.

Concealers from IT Cosmetics, Nars, Dior, tarte, CoverFX

Concealers from IT Cosmetics, Nars, Dior, tarte, CoverFX

1.  IT COSMETICS CC+ EYE* … Originally this was only available in a TSV but IT got smart and it’s now available separately. I have 3 different IT Cosmetics undereye concealers but chose to show this one because it has SPF50+ and it’s got amazing coverage. This is the concealer that has a slanted metallic applicator though I seem to get too much out if I apply it with the applicator. This is a full coverage concealer which may be too heavy for some people in summer but I use a very small amount and blend well.

2.  COVER FX CAMOUFLAGE CONCEALER aka Conceal FX is one I use anywhere and everywhere. This is a terrific general concealer so you really can buy this and be done. When I saw that they manufactured this in X-Light I was instantly sold.

3.  TARTE SMOOTH OPERATOR AMAZON CLAY CONCEALER is one of two tarte concealers I love, the other being Maracuja Concealer in the tube. This is the only stick concealer that I use even though I have much more expensive ones. I love the portability, the ease of application and that it comes light enough for me in Fair.makeup wars undereyes concealers all4.  NARS RADIANT CREAMY CONCEALER in Light is one I didn’t take to right away. I bought it because of the raves but it took me a while to like it. It will never be my favorite but it’s the wand concealer I find myself using the most these days. It’s very creamy and long lasting.

5.  DIORSKIN NUDE CONCEALER has gone through a few changes. I bought this originally and within weeks they came out with a new improved version so I exchanged it. It’s a great undereye concealer and one I like to use a lot to touch up with at night.

6.  DIORSKIN STAR CONCEALER is an even newer version of concealer for Dior. I use this interchangeably with Dior’s Nude Concealer and don’t see much difference between the two.

Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher, Dior Skinflash, YSL Touche Eclat

Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher, Dior Skinflash, YSL Touche Eclat

Last are my highlighting concealers from Charlotte Tilbury, Dior and YSL. YVES ST LAURENT TOUCH ECLAT has been a favorite for years and years. I’ve gone through half a dozen of them. I like the original formula, Radiant Touch, because it brightens my undereyes and gives them a lift. I wear this any time I want to look and feel my best. CHARLOTTE TILBURY THE RETOUCHER is my newest one and I think I bought it because of the brand. I have it in #1 Fair and it’s a got good concealing properties along with a touch of brightening. DIOR SKINFLASH RADIANCE BOOSTER PEN is Dior’s answer to YSL. I bought this in #2 which has just a small touch of peach to it.

It takes a lot to be presentable these days!!  Which of these have your tried? Which of these do you want to try? Check out what the other Makeup Wars bloggers use so you can find a favorite. — Marcia

Polished perfectly with Pixi Beauty

pixi april inside box

For some reason I never noticed the inside of the box when I receive a package from Pixi Beauty for consideration. While the box itself is the same each time, the month’s products are always a delightful surprise. And the quote from Petra, the founder of Pixi Beauty, hit home this time “I can help women capture their natural beauty effortlessly.” That’s more fitting for this trio of products than others I use from Pixi.

April's newest product from Pixi Beauty

April’s newest product from Pixi Beauty

These three products help give me a minimal makeup look if I want. They work together perfectly together or alone.

Let’s start with H2O Skintint ($24) which is a water based gel that is available in 3 shades. I have the middle shade Nude which is a little too dark for me but I am able to tone it down with a drop of a lighter BB Cream to make it blend in well on my skin. The lightest shade, Cream, would probably work perfectly for me so I’ll have to check Target to see if this is in stock.

The ingredients in this are soothing as well as moisturizing. The finish is considered to be a semi-matte. I love that it’s fragrance free.

Pixi Full Cover Foundation Brush

Pixi Full Cover Foundation Brush

Pixi’s FULL COVER FOUNDATION BRUSH is my favorite product in this review. It’s fabulous whether you want it for full coverage or for a lighter coverage like the H2O Skintint. This brush is a bargain at only $15 and it’s one you need in your collection, even if you already own a foundation brush.

Pixi Full Cover Foundation Brush

Pixi Full Cover Foundation Brush

The head on this brush is what makes it such a delight to use. It’s fuller than the typical foundation brush and very dense. It’s so soft that I want to use it all the time. Foundation practically blends itself with the use of this brush. It can be used for powder, especially a powder foundation, or concealer on larger areas too. This never leaves my face with brush strokes, just with natural looking foundation.

Pixi Full Cover Foundation Brush

Pixi Full Cover Foundation Brush

The last delight is one I was really excited to see in the box. In a previous Pixi review I wrote about how much I love the Correction Concentrate in Brightening Peach because it covers my dark circles. Well it now has a friend that’s so much easier for me to use because it’s in crayon form. UNDERCOVER CRAYON in PERK-UP PEACH is the baby sister of Correction Concentrate. This is a new product from Pixi Beauty and comes in 4 shades. Perk-Up Peach ($14) is for brightening and neutralizing redness and dark circles.

The peach crayon applies lighter than my purposely darker swatch and blends in well with either my finger, a sponge or Pixi’s foundation brush. I like to use it in a V shape under my eyes using the side of the crayon, not the tip. I also use it at the corners of my nose to neutralize the redness that I usually have there. Here are the details from Pixi: “Youth-preserving formula with peptides to plump lines, wild rose to nourish & liquorice root to fade darkness. Dries matte, stays put and looks super natural.”  Youth preserving? They had me at that one!!

As usual Pixi and their cruelty free products make me sit up and take notice. Products I need at affordable prices that are easy to use. What are your favorites from Pixi? — Marcia

Happy times with Pixi Beauty in January

Each month Pixi Beauty picks out a variety of cosmetics as their favorites. January’s picks are absolutely amazing. I was thrilled when I received this box of treasures and have been using them non-stop.

Pixi Beauty picks for January

Pixi Beauty picks for January

The products you see are: Correction Concentrate, Gilded Garnet Nail Polish, Natural Brow Duo, Large Lash Mascara, Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush. Each one makes me love Pixi even more than I already did.

Pixi Beauty Correction Concentrate

Pixi Beauty Correction Concentrate

My absolute favorite of these products is Correction Concentrate ($12). This pot of wonder makes such a huge difference under my eyes. In real life I always felt my concealers worked well but in photographs I’d see nothing but darkness under my eyes. I don’t have great photography skills and have to take a dozen or more pictures to get one that’s slightly passable. Once I started using this soft peach I noticed that my undereyes looked brighter. The pot is small but potent. Once I can’t get my finger in I’ll use a brush since I want to use every drop of this wonderful product.

Speaking of brushes, the Flat Liner Brush ($12) has more than one job. Yes you can use it as a push brush for eyelining but you can also use this for the Correction Concentrate. Use it to dab the corrector under your eyes to hide all the sins.

Pixi Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush

Pixi Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush

Pixi Beauty Large Lash Mascara ($16) is one of two mascaras that Petra has created. This one has an oversized brush to pick up all your lashes. Not only is this a lengthening mascara but it adds great volume yet isn’t clumpy at all. It has all the attributes you want in a mascara – no clumping, no flaking, no raccoon eyes – all you get are beautifully defined lashes.

Pixi is also featuring their Lash & Brow Brush ($8). I love having a brush like this because it does double duty. I like using it to brush my lashes before I apply mascara. That insures an even look and makes sure my lashes aren’t sticking together. The bristles on the brush are well spaced out making it a more effective brush. My other use for this brush is for my eyebrows. It tames them and also helps distribute color through my brows more evenly.

Lash & Brow Brush and Flat Liner Brush

Pixi’s Natural Brow Duo is getting its own post later today, that’s how much I have to say about it. What you need to know now though is that this has two sides – a waterproof brow pencil and a tinted soft-hold brow gel. With my new brow obsession, this is a fab product for me to be using.

Pixi Brow Duo in Natural Brown

Pixi Brow Duo in Natural Brown

I love when Pixi sends nail polish and the one they sent this month proves why. Gilded Garnet ($8) is one of their newest polishes and it’s a winner. It’s described as a deep burnished maroon with gold shimmer. I see it as more of a brown in most lights, a cinnamon brown, with some subtle gold shimmer in bright lights.

Every one of these 6 pieces are ones you want in your makeup collection. I’m loving Gilded Garnet Nail color as it’s a great fall and winter shade; I am mad about the Correction Concentrate and want to own one of these forever; and the Natural Brow Duo is getting a lot of admiration around here.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate – you’ll love it

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate Cream

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate Cream

If you read Beauty Info Zone you know that we are mad for It Cosmetics. We’ve been fortunate enough to try so much of the line and we keep falling deeper and deeper in love. When we were sent the Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate we weren’t sure if It Cosmetics could beat the original Bye Bye Under Eye. We’ve both used that for years and agree that it ranks right up there as favorites.

It Cosmetics doesn’t stand on its laurels though, they are always coming out with new products and trying to improve what’s available. Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate is one of those products. If you notice, it’s called a Corrector Concentrate, not concealer. It comes in three shades – Light for fair to light skin tones, Medium for light to medium skin tones, and Rich for tan to rich skin tones. It was created as a corrector which is why there are less shades. Correctors are especially important under your eyes to cover the circles and discoloration that you might have in that area.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate Cream ingredients

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate Cream ingredients

Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate was specially made as an anti-aging product. It contains the benefits of skincare while also providing full coverage correction. Ingredients include  green coffee extract, niacin, hylauronic acid, peptides, cucumber, avocado, and hydrolyzed collagen; all ingredients that we look for in our skincare.

This sells for $38 at QVC and Ulta and comes with the great brush for application. On to the reviews!!

MARCIA’S SIDE:

I’m convinced that all of us over a certain age have issues under our eyes. They might be dark circles, puffiness, discoloration or just plain old dullness. I’ve yet to meet someone that doesn’t complain about what to use under their eyes to correct their problems.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate

When I opened up this corrector I instantly thought of the Bye Bye Redness that I previously reviewed since the packaging is the same and it comes with a small brush that’s perfect for the product. But Bye Bye Redness is a very creamy product and you have to be careful that you don’t get too much out; Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concealer Cream on the other hand is quite dense and you have to work a little to get the product out. I’m thrilled that it comes with the brush since my nails are long and small pots don’t work that well for me. Plus the brush is perfect for application.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate in Light

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate in Light

Because the consistency is on the hard side what I do is put some eye cream on my hand or steel palette, I pick up the It Corrector Cream with the brush and then blend it on my hand with the eye cream. It lightens up the texture so that it’s now easy to apply. I apply it in a V shape under my eyes with the brush, then go back and blend it in. I also use this where I have any redness or small spots, especially at the side of my nose where it’s always redder than the rest of my face.

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate blended

It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concentrate blended

I’ve got to say that I really love the full coverage of this and I expect to use it up until every bit of it is gone. I only need a little bit at a time though so it’s going to last me for months. The shade Light is perfect for me as a concealer but I think that even Medium might work but strictly as a corrector for my insomniac under eye area.

LISA’S SIDE:

IT

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye UnderEye Corrector packaging

I am a big, big fan of IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer, the one in the squeeze tube. I have very dark undereye circles no matter how much I sleep or how good I feel, so I need a heavy duty concealer. I love the original concealer so much that I was skeptical I would like this one…but I really, really like it. As Marcia mentioned, this isn’t just a concealer, it’s a corrector, so it leans peach in terms of color. I think that it does a great job of covering the blue under my eyes, so I often use the corrector on the blue areas, then the concealer in a V from the outside of my eye to my nose.

the brush

the brush

I love the brush, it’s a fantastic little guy that is perfect for cream products and it fits just perfectly in all those odd shaped areas on the face.

IT

this is Light – it’s illuminating and the peach tones cancel out the blue

Light swatched on my tanned hand

Light swatched on my tanned hand

Bye Bye Under Eye Corrector Concealer Cream has a beautiful creamy consistency but it doesn’t crease at all throughout the day. I swatched it above on my tanned hands, and you can really see how illuminating the Light shade is. I would love to try the Medium, I could probably use it alone as both a corrector and a concealer. For now, though, with my faux-tanned skin I use the light to change my blue to a normal skin tone…and it works magic. IT Cosmetics hasn’t failed me yet!

In the October issue of Marie Claire magazine this was chosen as the top “most wanted” item for under eye circles. Even Marie Claire readers agree with us. Now it’s your turn to try it and agree with us.
