My New Year’s Eve Manicure with KB Shimmer and Color Me Monthly

KBShimmer Rollin with the Chromies

KBShimmer Rollin with the Chromies

This is the manicure I’ve chosen to wear this weekend and through New Year’s Eve. KB Shimmer sells their polishes both on their website and through their Etsy shop. It’s $8.75 at both places. I have a story behind this polish and how I know it wears amazingly well.

KB Shimmer Rollin with the Chromies.

KB Shimmer Rollin with the Chromies.

KBShimmer’s Rollin with the Chromies is available through their Etsy shop although I originally bought this from their website. I had it applied over an Essie polish on August 15th; on August 18th I fell. Well that meant this polish was on my nails for 8 full weeks before I was back, wheelchair bound, to get my nails done again. The best part is that the entire time I was in the hospital and the rehab center I got compliments on the color. My nails were super long after 8 weeks but the color looked perfect.

Rollin with the Chromies

Rollin with the Chromies

Rollin with the Chromies is a linear holo without glitter. The shimmer in it is amazing. And the shift in color in different lights is even better. The polish changes from cyan, to blue, to red orange, to burgundy and more. KBShimmer says it’s best in 3 coats or 1 coat over black. I love it over a dark purple or dark blue.

I received Color Me Monthly Annapolis when I was in that awful rehab and couldn’t review it then. But I knew I’d want to wear it and when I decided that 8 weeks wasn’t enough of Rollin with the Chromies I instantly knew that this inky dark purple was the perfect base coat. This manicure is 1 coat of Color Me Monthly and 1 coat of KB Shimmer.

I’ve been a big fan of the nail subscription box COLOR ME MONTHLY for exactly 2 years now. This unique company creates one special polish a month and keeps getting better and better. For November they produced an absolutely gorgeous shade called ROASTED CHESTNUTS. I don’t think that they could have improved on this at all.

Color Me Monthly, Roasted Chestnuts

Color Me Monthly, Roasted Chestnuts

ROASTED CHESTNUTS is a brown with embedded colored glitter. It absolutely shined on my nails. In bright light the colors glistened calling for people to come and take a gander. We had a week without sun yet even that couldn’t hinder how much I enjoyed wearing this polish. What could be better for November than roasted chestnuts, a glorious shade?

COLOR ME MONTHLY keeps up with the seasons and times of year by sending a color that’s appropriate for then. But you’ll want to wear the shades over and over. Of all the polishes I’ve received from them, there is only one that I haven’t worn a second (or even third) time. The others just call my name.

I normally keep away from polishes with glitter since they are so difficult to remove. I have a wrap done on my nails to keep them strong and the removal process with glitter destroys the glue. NOT the case with Color Me Monthly’s Roasted Chestnut. This came off (after one week) as easily as any cream polish I’ve used. There was no staining and the only place that needed a little extra removal was where the wrap was old at the base of my nail. I was so happy to see that but I should have known since I’ve found the quality of these polishes to be superb.

Color Me Monthly captures October exactly

The colors of fall are so interesting especially if you live in a state with a changing climate. In Michigan we are lucky enough to have a true fall and the color changes are magnificent. Colors are more vibrant than ever as the trees lose their chlorophyll. While it’s sad for me personally that winter is coming, I love seeing what Mother Nature has provided for us to enjoy.

Color Me Monthly has created a shade for October’s monthly subscription that is spot on for this season. The shade they sent for review is named Pennywise and it’s one of the most beautiful copper tones I’ve seen. While it’s based on the copper of a brand new shiny penny, it is so reminiscent of fall that people can’t help but notice and admire it.

Pennywise, Color Me Monthly October

Pennywise is a duochrome copper metallic that shines with colors like pink, gold, orange and even some green depending on the light.  I love polishes that aren’t static.

Each month Color Me Monthly brings one new polish to subscribers for $7 (including shipping). I’ve been lucky enough to receive several of the polishes and have a beautiful collection that I go back to often. The nail polish is free of toluene, formaldehyde/formaldehyde resin, dibutyl phthalate (DBP), and camphor.

For September the shade, shown below, was a gorgeous deep blurple. If you miss a shade you can often find it in The Vault for $9. But why spend extra when you can get it for $7 and be assured of not missing one?

Products that aid in our fight to stamp out breast cancer

As everyone knows October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink surrounds us whenever we shop, whether online or in person. There are so many cosmetic companies that donate to a variety of charities that it’s hard to keep up with them all. Some companies, like the Estee Lauder corporation, give year round and generously. They even have their own foundation, Breast Cancer Research Foundation, that sponsors initiatives in women’s fights against this disease. Lisa has written several articles about the wonderful products you can purchase that will donate portions to this fight. Bobbi Brown Pink Ribbon Lip Gloss collection, and products from La Mer, Aveda, and bumble & bumble are among the Estee Lauder products that support the fight.

Some of the items I’ve come across in my internet reading that I’d be interested in are listed here.

JUARA is one of the companies that will be donating 10% of October sales to Cancer and Careers, a program of the CEW Foundation, empowers and educates people with cancer to thrive in their workplace by providing expert advice, interactive tools and educational events.  Cancer and Careers strives to eliminate fear and uncertainty for working people with cancer through a comprehensive website, free publications, career coaching, and a series of support groups and educational seminar. Founded by four socially-conscious women, JUARA Skincare combines Indonesian botanicals and ancient Indonesian health and beauty rituals with the latest skincare technology to restore the skin’s natural balance while evoking the calming experience of an ancient beauty ritual.  JUARA is in fact an Indonesian word that means “winner” or “champion”. “As women entrepreneurs, we created JUARA to help women “champion” their natural beauty, but also because we wanted to take control of our own lives and become champions of our own.”

AVON

Avon is a company that considers Breast Cancer to be a huge issue for women and supports this cause year round with walks and products. They created the Avon Foundation Breast Cancer Crusade for this purpose. One of the products that they are donating $5 per purchase is Anew Vitale, an evening gel/cream that contains salicyclic acid (good for oily and combo skintypes).

Top 10 Tuesday shares spring and summer nail polish

Top 10 Tuesdays picked a topic that’s close to my heart for this go around. I’m a nail polish junkie even if I have no artistic skills and can’t even apply well. I love having a collection of the prettiest and newest nail polishes but I rarely forget about my previous ones. I didn’t quite narrow it down to 10 but I forced myself to stop adding new ones. It’s easy to see what my favorite colors are in my pictures but I’m always willing to experiment. I hope you enjoy what you see. Let me know if any of these are favorites of yours too. — Marcia

1. TRIND Caring Color in SURF’S UP – this is the prettiest teal I own. I’m crazy about metallic polishes and Surf’s Up is an outstanding one. The wear was great. Toes will cry out for this shade but so do my nails.*

2. FORMULA X in A LITTLE SEXY - I feel a whole lot sexy with this denim blue almost lavender polish. This set me off on a light blue craze but this is my favorite of the ones I used. Pick this up at Sephora before it’s gone since it’s a limited edition.

3. ROCOCCO in SANDRINE CREAM – I love this blue too. It’s deeper and less denim than the FormulaX but it’s a stunning light blue that is perfect now and will remain so in the summer. I bought this online but it’s harder to find now.

Rococco Sandrine Cream polish

4. COLOR ME MONTHLY – CHIFFON – Whenever Color Me Monthly sends a polish I swoon. The surprise of this subscription box is what makes it so much fun. Chiffon is a beautiful lavender that I hope will be in their Vault so you can pick it up if you don’t subscribe.*

5. FACE STOCKHOLM #168 - Not an original name but this purple is just too pretty for me to care!*

6. FACE STOCKHOLM AURA – Last summer Face Stockholm came out with holographic nail polishes and Aura blew me away. Imagine sitting in the sun and being able to look at this beauty. It shines and so will you.*

7. butter LONDON MOLLY CODDLED – This is the first Radiant Orchid item I bought once the color was announced by Pantone. It’s still my favorite Radiant Orchid cosmetic. This will always be in style, no matter what the color of the year is.

8. FORMULA X in FIERY – I do love my red polish. Fiery is a flaming red metallic that you’ll love all year long. This is truly seasonless – wear it on your toes this summer and your nails any time.

9. DIOR in FRONT ROW – I obviously didn’t need another red polish but this is more of a pinky red and it’s Dior’s new gel formula so I was justified in buying this. The wear and application are terrific and I’ll be back for more new Dior now.

10. butter LONDON in KERFUFFLE – The best peach I’ve ever tried. I normally don’t look good in peach but this is a pinky peach that is perfection. I hope Ulta does more BOGO so I can buy more colors like this.

11. and 12. butter LONDON LOLLY BRIGHTS in Lolly and Stroppy – These two polishes got compliments galore and will continue to do so all spring and summer. They are metallics with shimmer embedded in them. The colors are bright and happy.*
