The Jojoba Company – Jojoba Bead Facial Cleanser and Natural Pigment Oil

The Jojoba Company Natural Pigmentation Oil and Jojoba Bead Facial Cleanser

The Jojoba Company Natural Pigmentation Oil and Jojoba Bead Facial Cleanser

What is Jojoba oil (pronounced ho-HO-ba)? According to The Jojoba Company jojoba is a desert plant that produces a small bead. ” It produces a rich, pure golden liquid wax (it is often called jojoba ‘oil’).  But unlike oils this unique liquid wax acts like our skin’s own natural oils, absorbing deep below the skins surface. “It is the only plant on earth known to produce a wax similar to that found in young, healthy human skin”

The Jojoba Company has its own farm in Australia so that they can control how the plant is grown, this way they can avoid chemicals and preservatives. The father/daughter team who created the brand have found ways to incorporate the plant and oil into an entire skincare line.

I’ve used The Jojoba Co’s Pure Jojoba Oil (review) for over 6 months to help keep my skin and hair looking their best. When the company offered me their Natural Pigmentation Oil to even skin tone and reduce the appearance of pigmentation, you know I was thrilled. They later sent their Jojoba Bead Facial Cleanser to make life even better!

Jojoba Company jojoba bead facial cleanser

Jojoba Bead Facial Cleanser is a very gentle cleanser that’s infused with tiny jojoba beads. This is a cleanser/exfoliator that I can use on a daily basis if I want since it’s so gentle. If you love a very scrubby cleanser this might not be strong enough for you, but it’s perfect for me. I like to use an exfoliating cleanser but I can’t overdo it so this very lightly scented product is a perfect addition to my regime.

“We have used 100% natural solidified jojoba beads that are completely safe and eco-friendly—no plastic particles here. The beads gently exfoliate while hydrating Vitamin C, quandong, aloe vera and Vitamin E dissolve impurities. Use daily as a 2-in-1 cleanser and exfoliator for glowing smooth skin. Suitable for all skin types.”

I love the ingredients used in this and I feel comfortable knowing that this calming cleanser has great natural ones. The jojoba beads won’t hurt the environment so it’s good for everyone.

Jojoba Company Natural Pigmentation Oil

Jojoba Company Natural Pigmentation Oil

The Jojoba Company Natural Pigmentation Oil is meant to target sunspots, age spots, and uneven skintone. There’s a pleasant light citrus fragrance to this. I use it at night since it’s an oil and my foundation has occasionally balled up under it if I’m rushing and not letting it meld into my skin. It’s so moisturizing that at night I don’t need to use another moisturizer if I don’t want.

The packaging is just the best. The top of all Jojoba Company boxes is so great you almost want to store it in the box but this copper colored bottle is beautiful on its own and looks pretty on my vanity.

PurErb Essential Oils for skincare sensation

PurErb Skincare

PurErb Skincare

When your first glimpse of a website looks like this, you know you are in for a unique experience. PurErb Skincare is a brand based on herbology-based care and aromatherapy. They embrace the power of nature with something called NLE (natural liposome encapsulation) that intensifies the ingredients.

Pur Erb Serenity Calming Facial Oil and Vitality Deep Cleansing Oil

PurErb Serenity Calming Facial Oil and Vitality Deep Cleansing Oil

We were sent two products to learn about this newer line that are perfect examples of what PurErb™ is all about.

The Vitality Deep Cleansing Oil is a clear rinse off cleanser that uses 15 exotic botanical ingredients in its formula. This cleanser absorbs into your skin quickly which helps moisturize and soften it. Start with a dry face, then put a drop onto your fingertips and rub them together. Massage this onto your your dampened face and neck to activate the oil. When you are done just pat it dry to leave your skin radiant, smooth and beautifully refreshed.

Pur Erb Vitality Deep Cleansing Oil

Pur Erb Vitality Deep Cleansing Oil

It contains ingredients like Abyssinian, Moringa, Geranium, Kukui, Frankincense, and Sacha Inchi oils to provide Mother Nature’s answer to calming your skin.

  • Dissolves and washes away surface impurities
  • Helps prevent dehydration and excess sebum
  • Leaves skin refreshed, smooth, and radiant

I love the smell of this and I’m normally extremely sensitive to any fragrance, I mostly smell citrus. It’s not too sweet or too tart, it’s in between and I love it. What is terrific about this is that they sell a 1 oz size (the one I have) for only $9 so you can try out a nice size bottle before investing in the 6 oz. $32 size.

Serenity Calming Facial Oil isn’t a cleansing oil so it’s used differently and has a much stronger aromatherapy fragrance to it. This is considered to be a Meridian Oil which are used often in spa treatments. According to PurErb these oils resonate more deeply than individual essential oils and are better for transporting your senses and enhancing well being.

Pur Erb Serenity Calming Facial Oil

PurErb Serenity Calming Facial Oil

This too has oils that are multi-layered and include Baobab, Marula, Bulgarian Rose, Helichrysum, Sandalwood, and Lavender.

With Serenity you first do a precleanse and tone your skin. Dispense a small amount onto your fingertips and rub them together. Then massage this onto your face and neck. You won’t be washing this off. This is the oil you’d use either alone or under a moisturizer. Here are the benefits:

  • Absorbs quickly to moisturize and soften
  • Nourishes and calms stressed skin
  • Ethereal floral notes promote relaxation
  • Helps soothe mental and emotional distress

A full size 1 oz bottle (the size of mine) is 1 oz and sells for $75 while a .3 oz is $28. These contain more expensive ingredients thus the price difference. While both of these oils come in darkened glass bottles to keep the ingredients away from light, Serenity’s bottle is also frosted protecting it even more.

Information about some of the essential oils in PurErb Skincare

KUKUI: The Kukui tree was originally valued for its oil used in torches and lamps, from which its alternate name “Candlenut Tree” was derived. The dark nuts, white flowers, and downy leaves of the tree adorn traditional Hawaiian leis and symbolize enlightenment peace, and protection. The rich, silky oil contains essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins that soothe dry, stressed skin, deeply moisturize, relieve skin irritation, and promote healing.

SANDALWOOD: Prized across the globe for thousands of years, the Queen of Sheba offered sandalwood as a gift to honor King Solomon. Inhaling this scent helped Buddhists maintain alertness during meditation, and prompted Australian Aborigines to focus before the walkabout rite of passage. The slow-growing wood provides a luxurious oil that fades scars, tones, and rejuvenates the skin, while the elegant fragrance creates a sense of clarity, composure, and tranquility.

BAOBOB:  Known as the “upside down tree” of legend, the baobab overflowed with energy and walked across the African plains. Mother Earth decided to plant the baobab upside down to make sure it stayed in one place, and ever since, its root-like branches reach up to the sky. Baobab oil provides a superior source of essential fatty acids and antioxidants, promoting softer, smoother, and more toned skin. Vitamins A, D, and E deeply moisturize and nourish dull, dry, and aging skin while encouraging the regeneration of skin cells.

FRANKINSCENCE:  This fragrant resin has been revered by royalty for thousands of years, valued even more than gold. Unguent vases discovered in King Tutankhamun’s tomb contained frankincense, as further testimony of the ancient Egyptian obsession with eternal youth. Known for its healing powers, this anti-aging secret conditions, tones, and rejuvenates irritated, environmentally-damaged skin. The aroma is reminiscent of pine, honey, and lemon, and provides a sense of calm and serenity.

MORINGA:  Ancient Egyptian tombs often contained vessels filled with Moringa oil for use during the afterlife. Today, this deeply penetrating aromatic oil is still valued for its superior antioxidant and moisturizing powers for ageless-looking skin. With a superior oleic acid content of 72%, Moringa oil is deeply absorbed, delivering vital nutrients and restoring moisture to the skin.

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee – a relaxing end to a beautiful day

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

I’m happy to be introducing you to a fabulous product that I have been using for the last 2 months: Osmosis Melt Away Gelee. You’ve long heard about double cleansing but you’ve never seen a product quite like this.

pr sample

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee brand new and crystal clear

Mostly I hear about oils for makeup removal prior to washing but Melt Away Gelee is a paraben free gel that is very soothing. I like to use my fingers to apply this to my face but others like using a cotton pad with it.

Some days I get super lazy and want the easiest way to remove my makeup and this is when I’m really thrilled I have this cleansing product. TMI but I sit on the toilet seat (closed) and pick up a small amount of this clear gel and rub my entire face with it. I massage it in to pick up all the vestiges of makeup. When I’m done I’ll use Micellar Water (either a cleansing sheet or on a cotton square) and remove the gel. My face is not only ultra cleansed but it’s softer than ever.

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

Melt Away Gelee doesn’t clog my pores and there’s nothing harsh about it. It just melts my foundation etc. away without any scrubbing.

Another way I use this is prior to cleansing with my sonic cleansing machine (Sonulase). I remove my facial makeup with the gelee, add cleanser to the Sonulase, and wash while exfoliating and treating my skin. It’s not an extra step at all.

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

Osmosis Melt Away Gelee

This is said to remove waterproof makeup but I find it doesn’t remove my mascara well. To conquer that I take a q-tip and put some on the end and gently rub. It’s a little messy though since the black ends up on my face but it’s easily washed away.

I have nothing but praise for this gentle makeup remover. The ingredients are moisturizing (avocado oil, jojoba oil and aloe vera) and soothing. If you have any irritation on your face this would be an excellent choice too.

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, 2-Octyldodecanol / Dibutyl Lauroyl Glutamide / Dibutyl Ethylhexanoyl Glutamide, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Avocado (Persea Gratissima) Oil, Jojoba (Buxus Chinensis) Oil, Lycium Barbarium (Goji Berry Fruit) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Extract, Pheoxyethanol
Do you use any precleanser? If you do then consider Osmosis Melt Away Gelee, you won’t be sorry. — Marcia

The promise of younger looking skin with the Obagi 360™ System – (giveaway time)

Obagi 360™ System

Obagi 360™ System

Obagi has long been a heavy hitter in the skin care arena. This line was one of the first to be popular among dermatologists and it continues to be an extremely popular medical-strength line. I was sent the Obagi 360™ System to test, which is a 3-part system that is perfect for younger people. Not that I qualify as a ‘younger person’ anymore – luckily I did find this system to be quite versatile!

There are three products in the Obagi 360™ SystemExfoliating Cleanser, Retinol 0.5%, and HydraFactor Broad Spectrum SPF 30. This simple but effective 3-step system is perfect for teenagers and those in their twenties. The major concerns addressed include the appearance of fine lines, dull skin tone, uneven skin tone, and clogged pores.

Obagi 360™ Exfoliating Cleanser

Obagi 360™ Exfoliating Cleanser

The Exfoliating Cleanser is a gentle cleanser that gets rid of dry skin and helps unclog pores. It works like your typical exfoliating cleanser – apply to damp skin, gently massage in, then rinse. I use a makeup remover first so the cleanser can really penetrate and clear out trapped dirt and oil.  The exfoliators are fine enough that it works with a Luna or Clarisonic, and it preps the skin perfectly for the Retinol treatment. The key exfoliating agents are soft beads that mechanically re-surface the skin, and linked papain, which is an innovative, stabilized form of papaya fruit acid.

Obagi 360™ Retinol

Obagi 360™ Retinol 0.5%

The Retinol 0.5% is no joke. Results happen quickly so it’s not long before you see an improvement in collagen and sun damage. The packaging is perfect for maintaining the efficacy of retinol. The question will be whether or not your skin can tolerate this level of retinol, because it’s definitely medical grade stuff. My skin loves it, but I had to build up to using it every other day. I still can’t use it every day – if I do that, my skin gets really sensitive and I get a burning sensation. So you’ll just need to experiment to find out what you can tolerate initially, gradually increasing application as your skin gets used to the product. The Retinol 0.5% truly resurfaces skin and gives amazing, measurable results.  Younger people will also appreciate this for acne prevention.

HydraFactor Broad Spectrum SPF 30

HydraFactor Broad Spectrum SPF 30

The HydraFactor Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is an effective moisturizer that also prevents skin damage thanks to the protection from UVA/UVB rays. This is a thick moisturizer and a little goes a long way. It feels very soothing after applying the Retinol product. If you needed a nighttime moisturizer you will probably want to supplement this system since the SPF isn’t needed at night.

The Obagi 360™ System is indeed a simple but effective system that works for any age skin, but it particularly suited to those in their teens and twenties. It’s only available through a physician’s office and if you visit the Obagi website ( you can find a doctor near you who carries the line. They also have a neat feature that helps you identify which Obagi products are right for you, so take a look even if you aren’t a ‘youngster’ anymore! – Lisa

Great drugstore skin care finds: CeraVe Healing Ointment and Foaming Facial Cleanser

CeravePart of the reason I think I love beauty products so much is I am a bit of an adrenaline junkie. There is a huge rush that comes from combing the drugstore aisles and finding extremely inexpensive products that end up being worth their weight in gold. One line that is indeed a goldmine is CeraVe. Two of my favorite products that I highly recommend are the Healing Ointment ($22) and the Foaming Facial Cleanser ($13).                                                                                                              PR samples

Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser and Healing Ointment
The Healing Ointment is going to completely replace Vaseline in your home. It’s similar in texture to Vaseline, and is very gentle on skin. It is the bomb for super dry, chafed, or cracking skin. You know how dry heels and the bottom of toes get in the winter? Slather this on at night, put some socks on, and in the morning you won’t believe how much that cracking has healed.
Cerave Healing Ointment

CeraVe Healing Ointment

The ingredients are about 50% petrolatum, or what you find in Vaseline. Also included are hydrating mineral oil, silicone, and waxes that give dry, cracked skin the major hit of moisture that it needs. And there is more! It also has hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which repair skin. All of these ingredients make for soft, healed skin. This healing ointment is fragrance-free, which is awesome. It does leave skin kind of tacky, although I would say less so than Vaseline does, but it really is a wonder for cracked, dry skin.

Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser

My second CeraVe recommendation is for the Foaming Facial Cleanser. What a great buy! If you have normal to oily skin, this is the stuff for you. It’s very gentle and is fragrance-free. It has a nice, light foam and is a water-soluble cleanser that removes dirt and makeup and leaves skin feeling soft. If you have sensitive skin or suffer from eczema or rosacea, this is a perfect drugstore choice. YES!
These two finds from CeraVe are not only great for your skin and wallet, they will also satisfy the shopping/adrenaline junkie in you. Marcia loves this line too and I know she has more recommendations to give you soon. – Lisa

Skincare 101 – my Paula’s Choice regimen

Paula's Choice Resist line - my personal regimen

Paula’s Choice Resist line – my personal regimen

Makeup Wars is always a favorite for me. If you haven’t been hanging around Beauty Info Zone then you might not know that Makeup Wars is when a group of bloggers choose a topic and we all post about the same general idea. But the articles are so varied since we are all coming from different places in our life. Skincare 101 is a most exciting post because I know that I’m going to learn so much from the other “warriors” and what they are going to share.

I’m sharing my Paula’s Choice Resist products that I received from #PRIMP, Pretty in my Pocket, after a wonderful phone consultation. I’ve loved and used Paula’s Choice products for years. But the line has gotten so big that I was at a loss as to what I really should be using. I read the descriptions and everything sounds wonderful. The phone consult which takes between 10 and 15 minutes and is free to all, is perfect. Your representative discusses your skin type, age, skin concerns, and what you want to work on and then creates your own personal regimen. You can then pick out which items you want to start with or wait for another day. I recommend that you don’t wait though. I’ve been using my PC Resist products for 4 months now and don’t intend to stop. I’ll add in other lines that I want to review but I’ve always gone back to Paula’s Choice.

For this review you need to know that I’ve got skin that used to be combination but is now on the dry side, especially in cold weather. My concerns are keeping my face looking as youthful as possible while dealing with large pores, fine lines, and firmness.

Paula's Choice Resist Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser and Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner

Paula’s Choice Resist Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser and Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner

I use both the Resist Optimal Results Hydrating Cleanser and Advanced Replenishing Toner morning and evening. There are other cleansers in the Resist line but for my needs (and advancing age) I needed one that is gentle and hydrating. This is a lotion that cleanses my skin and removes any facial makeup without stripping my skin of essential oils. While it works for all skin types it’s especially recommended for normal to dry.

The Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner is a step that I often resist. There’s so much misinformation around about using a toner and it’s often skipped but it can be an essential step in balancing your skin and keeping it well preserved (and not pickled). This toner is one for anti-aging which can be seen in the ingredients. It helps build collagen for firmer skin, it contains anti-irritants to calm redness, and it has licorice extract & acetyl glucosamine to improve skin tone. The packaging is hard plastic so you can’t really squeeze it out, you pour it onto a cotton pad and there’s never too much that comes out. It removes all vestiges of makeup. It’s great after using a cleansing cloth if you are too tired to use a soap and water cleanser since it removes all the residue from the cloth.

Paula's Choice Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment and Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer

Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment and Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer

After cleansing and toning I use Paula’s Choice Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment and Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer. These are daytime only for me because of the ingredients in them.

The Resist Daily Smoothing Treatment with 5% AHA contains glycolic acid which gently exfoliates and protects your skin’s barrier. This was chosen for me because it helps fade sun damage. I’m a firm believer in SPF but that’s not how I was brought up. I apply this AHA treatment as soon as I’ve finished with the two cleansing products. I like it to sink into my skin while I’m putting on my eye makeup. This is a light yellow creamy lotion that makes my skin feel very soft. I love anything that helps me correct my uneven skintone so this is a definite rebuy for me.

Resist Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer w/Broad Spectrum SPF 25 is the only moisturizer I took on a recent trip. I was packing light and this tube was exactly what I needed. I used it both day and night but at home I just use this during the day. Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer fits all the things I’m looking for in a daytime product: fragrance-free, broad spectrum sunscreen (mineral based), works as an anti-aging product, contains antioxidants, and my foundation never balls up when using this PC sunscreen.

Paula's Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer and Resist BHA 9

Paula’s Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer and Resist BHA 9

Paula’s Choice Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer and her Resist BHA 9 are the two products I use only at night. After cleansing and toning I first apply Resist BHA 9 and let it work its magic on my skin. This thin tube is totally different than the other BHA I have from Paula’s Choice. I laughed when I got this because it’s subtitled as “for stubborn imperfections” which describes my life to a tee. This is actually a product that’s good for so many of us as it is a concentrated salicylic acid spot treatment to tackle the most stubborn imperfections for dramatic results without irritation. It’s to be used for acne breakouts, Anti-Aging, blackheads, enlarged pores, and keratosis pilaris. Being stubborn myself I use this all over my face and not as a spot treatment. My main goal with this is for my enlarged pores and anti-aging. I am seeing a difference on the pores on my cheeks, especially when I apply cream blush. During Christmas there were so many deals popping up that I bought a set containing this BHA so I wouldn’t run out. It has a slightly oily feel to it. I’ve never had any irritation with this. It’s a winner for me.

Paula's Choice Resist BHA 9

Paula’s Choice Resist BHA 9

Since the Resist Barrier Repair Moisturizer has retinol in it, it’s strictly for night use around here. This was chosen for me because I had said I’m concerned with fine lines and future wrinkles. It’s very lightweight so I thought that it wouldn’t be enough moisturizing for me this winter but I was mistaken. I’m testing other skincare right now but I make sure to use this Barrier Repair Moisturizer a few times a week. The retinol in this works to improve skintone and I’ve been very happy with that overall. The percentage of retinol isn’t mentioned anywhere but it’s a mild one. This is best for normal to dry skin and happily is fragrance free.

Paula's Choice Resist Anti-Aging Eye Cream

Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Eye Cream

Oh what an uproar there was when Paula’s Choice announced they now had an eye cream. It was always her stand that we didn’t need a separate cream for eyes and many of her products are recommended to be used near your eyes. But women (especially me) want an eye cream and Paula listened. Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging Eye Cream was brought out after much testing since she knew she’d be scrutinized by everyone for going against her grain. This is a nicely rich eye cream that hasn’t caused me to have any milia. I used it religiously for 2 months and now alternate it with any others that I’m testing. I love the packaging of it but I often get out more than I actually need. The amount on my finger is really enough for both eyes twice. I try to squeeze lightly so that not too much comes out. I rub it between my fingers to soften it and pat it on under my eyes. While it’s a very good eye cream at a good price, I’m not sure if this is a repurchase, but then again I have a drawer full of eye creams so we’ll see down the road.

There you have my Paula’s Choice regimen. When I’m ready to add new products or I have a question about one of their products I’d have no problem calling again or using their live chat online. I also have no problem telling you that this is a line to be trusted and one I believe in. If I had a daughter, I’d gladly steer her towards Paula’s Choice to find her own routine.

Keeping it clean with Paula’s Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Cleanser and Advanced Replenishing Toner

I’m a huge, huge Paula fan from way back…in fact, it’s really thanks to her that I am a beauty blogger today. Her skin care line is one I go back to again and again, so I was more than happy to test some items the BIZ was sent. I think that this line excels in two areas: cleansing and treatment. Today I am excited to be sharing with you two of my favorite cleansing items, the RESIST PERFECTLY BALANCED CLEANSER ($18 for 6.4 oz) and the RESIST ADVANCED REPLENISHING TONER ($23 for 4 oz)

This is a perfect workhorse cleanser. It’s amazing for anyone with oily or t-zone issues – I think she has better cleansers for those with dry skin. This one is terrific for removing excess oil as well as whatever is left from the day while at the same time treating and hydrating skin.

It’s a light lotion cleanser that has a slight foam. Works great with any cleansing device because it has some slip. I do like to wipe off my eye makeup first with Paula’s Gentle Touch Makeup Remover ($15) but this cleanser does take off eye makeup without stinging my eyes. The ceramides and the hyaluronic acid are wonderfully soothing ingredients that leave skin super happy. Great stuff!
I am a big believer in toners. Good ones remove any last vestiges of makeup while also calming skin. This one does both, plus the antioxidants fight wrinkles and free radicals. The bottle is a squeeze bottle that can be a little challenging at first – I was putting way too much toner on my cotton pads – but it can’t be in a spray bottle because the toner has a lotion quality to it that’s too thick to spray. Check out everything it does for skin:
  • Anti-Aging, Extra Sensitive Skin, Wrinkles
  • Soothes Dry/Very Dry Skin
  • Antioxidant-rich formula reduces wrinkles & repairs damaged cells
  • Licorice extract & acetyl glucosamine improve skin tone
  • Soothing formula calms skin while removing last traces of makeup
  • Unique milky texture leaves skin looking radiant & feeling unbelievably soft
  • This product is 100% fragrance- and colorant-free.

I especially appreciate this toner when I have dry spots or chapped areas from the cold Michigan weather. This is, truly, the best toner I have ever used.

I recommend the Paula’s Choice line all the time – it has fabulous basics that work and the Resist Perfectly Balanced Cleanser and Resist Advanced Replenishing Toner are fantastic staples to include in your skin care routine. If you are new to Paula’s Choice, click HERE for $10 off your first order!  – Lisa
