Makeup Wars shares their favorite purple eyes

Do you think of Crayola purple when you imagine wearing a purple eyeshadow?

The shade that we grew up with if only had a box of 8 or 16 crayons is not the purple that Makeup Wars is in love with. As we’ve grown up Crayola purple is our last love but has led to many other shades within that range of color. Ones we didn’t imagine when we were 8 years old.

My purples are all over the board from lavender to violet to wine to almost black. All are beautiful and all have something special about them.

1. CHANTECAILLE TANZANITE

If you’d ask me to name one eyeshadow that was my favorite purple this would be it. I’ve gone through several of these since it’s got just the right amount of blue in it for me. Seeing it in the pot I’d never think it was a blue purple but on my eyes it is. I’m not putting these in any order except to say this has always been my number 1.

2. NARS KAUAI

I love this metallic violet. Nars describes the duo as Gold Lame and Smoky Iridescent Orchid. I don’t use the gold because it’s very sparkly and gets all over my face. But this purple is to die for.

3. ROUGE BUNNY ROUGE DELICATE HUMMINGBIRD

Rouge Bunny Rouge Delicate Humingbird

I swear this is more purple in person but in reality it’s a taupe purple. It’s not intensely pigmented but it’s beautiful and easy for me to wear. A combo of two favorite colors can’t be wrong.

4. LE METIER DE BEAUTY PLUM

Le Metier de Beaute Plum eyeshadow

This is almost a periwinkle shade. It is a typical LMdB eyeshadow in that it’s sheer (sheerer than my swatch) and works well for layering. But most days I’m not in the mood to layer so I use this with a firm brush and get a lot of pigment from it.

5. LE METIER DE BEAUTE FIG

Alone Fig is not a favorite but it works so well when using the Couches de Couleurs method. This is a very brown version of fig with a touch of red. It can change a look from day to night with ease.

6. CHANEL MAGIC NIGHT OMBRE ESSENTIAL

Chanel Magic Night

Chanel Magic Night

Sadly Magic Night is discontinued but I had to include it since it really is a favorite. The undertone of Magic Night is milk chocolate and it has purple pigment added to create a shade that makes for a beautiful smokey eye. One of the advantages to this shadow is that you can easily use gradient tones so you can get a great look with just this one shadow.

7. TARINA TARANTINO MAGICAL JEWEL EYESHADOW PALETTE*

I am totally in love with this palette. I’ve been wearing it at least 3 days a week for the last few weeks. Every shade in this is gorgeous and creates a perfect cool toned eye look. There’s mauve, smoky amethyst, violet, creamy white and a light pink lilac. It wears like a dream. The name Magical fits it completely. A full review will be forthcoming.

So there you have my very unCrayola line of favorite purples. I love the variations available and that I don’t have to look like a crayon.

Are any of these in your repertoire? Any favorite purples I should look into? — Marcia

Makeup Wars introduces our personal Holiday Wishlist items

“I want nothing for Christmas” said me NEVER! Of course I want a gift. I may not get anything beauty but I can dream can’t I?? The Makeup Wars bloggers have decided to put together our wishlists of what we’d like to see under our menorah or Christmas tree this year. My wishlist is 100% beauty related which comes as no surprise at all. The good news is that these are all pretty easy to get, the bad news is that I bought some of it while waiting to publish.

Let’s start with what I bought! After our Favorite Metallic Makeup Wars I was terribly tempted by the Laura Mercier Art Deco shadows that so many of the bloggers put on their list. They were sold out at Sephora which made it even more important for me to buy them. So Nordstrom.com and my reward certificates came in handy and now I own some of these. While they aren’t on my wishlist since they are on a UPS truck coming to me, they should be on yours!

Laura Mercier Art Deco eyeshadows

What I also bought was one (I promise only one) of the new Burberry Complete Eyeshadow Palettes. I just kept looking at this picture and had to wipe the drool off my face several times. I bought Smokey Grey No. 1 because I have been buying brown shadows galore in 2012. On my wishlist though are more of these. Luckily these are permanent ($59 each). Take a gander:

Burberry Complete Eye Palettes

  • Smokey Grey No. 01 Grays
  • Mocha No. 02 Warm neutrals
  • Pale Nude No. 03 Cool neutrals
  • Dark Spice No. 05 Smoky neutrals
  • Plum Pink No. 06 Plums
  • Pink Taupe No. 07 Pink neutrals

Next on my wishlist is more Too Faced, in particular the Too Faced Bon Bons Set. There’s something so girly and appealing about this $42 box set. Their description makes it even more appealing to me: “As enticing as a box of scrumptious sweets, Shadow Bon Bons features a delicious range of shadows from soft vanillas to rich coffee, an ultra-black LashGASM mascara, a built-in mirror, and a shimmering gold Candlelight shadow primer, making it easy to create bountiful looks. Go from sweet and sassy to subtle to dramatic with this one versatile set.”

Too Faced Bon Bons

Prime Beauty introduced me to the Eye Candy Full Face Collection from Lorac on her blog and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Doesn’t this sound like fun for $59??

- 4 x 0.68 oz Eye Shadow Palette in Ooh La La Vanilla (Nude Eye Shadow Palette), Caramel Love Affair (Golden Eye Shadow Palette), Tantilizing Cocoa (Bronze Eye Shadow Palette), Blackberry Truffle Seduction (Smoky Eye Shadow Palette)
- 0.17 oz Cream Eye Liner Palette in Mesmerizing Dark Chocolate
- 0.17 oz Cheek & Lip Tint Palette in Indulge in Berry Kisses

Lorac Eye Candy

Let’s move away from the eyes (which is difficult for me). When Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog reviewed the Armani Nude Lip Set ($49) I suddenly had a desire for it.   The set includes Rouge d’Armani #103 and Gloss d’Armani #103. I love my light shades of lipstick and even though I probably have dozens of similar shades there’s just something I like about this.

Armani Nude Lip Set

I have the Chantecaille Rose Petals Highlighter ($74) on my wishlist because it’s just so pretty. I’d probably never use it, I’d just look at it.  Read this and weep: “A kaleidoscope of colorful powders blend together beautifully to impart a sheer, flattering glow on all skin tones. Unique light-perfecting powders provide a veil of subtle radiance, while flexible polymers ensure long-lasting, comfortable wear. Innovative technology allows the soft, iridescent pigments to be evenly sprinkled throughout the entire powder.”

Chantecaille Rose Petals Highlighter

On the practical side I’d love the Le Metier de Beaute CHEM60 Pro-Peel & GLOW10ai Mask Set ($265). After seeing it work in person I’d love to have that glowy skin.

Le Metier Ready, Set, Glow

And one more for the road – I am a Swarovski crystal nut. I love those crystals so when I saw this Tweezerman Swarovski Crystal Mirror ($150) I fell in lust. “Add some glam to your beauty routine while isolating even the finest hair for precise, easy tweezing. The optically correct 1X/10X magnifying mirror is clear from edge-to-edge with no distortion. This gorgeously decorated two-sided vanity mirror will be a beautiful addition to any household. *Made with Swarovski® Elements

Thanks for reading my very long wishlist. My address is available upon request (LOL). Let me know if any of these would be on your wishlist too. Curious minds want to know. Now I’m going to read the rest of the Makeup Wars Holiday Wishlists and probably add many more items to mine just like I did after the metallics. — Marcia

The latest from Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Le Metier, Guerlain, and Chantecaille

Marcia and I stopped by Neiman Marcus yesterday to get the latest news from our favorite MA, Kim McFadden.  While we were there, the fabulous Christine Wujczyk joined in and showed us all the latest and greatest from some terrific lines.

The first thing we looked at was the new Chanel Ombres Tissees Irridescent Effects Eyes in Beiges ($75), and Marcia and I squealed like school girls.  It is so gorgeous in person, pictures just don’t do it justice.

They did not have a tester just yet, so we weren’t able to swatch it.  The colors are so pretty, and it has a beautiful sparkly overlay.  We took tons of pics so you could see how it changes depending on the lighting.

The sparkle is an overlay, so once you use the top layer it’s gone.  It looks like it would be a very soft, pretty, but subtle color for eyes or cheeks once that overlay is gone.

After checking out Chanel, we wandered over to Bobbi Brown where there are a lot of exciting new products coming out.

Bobbi Brown has doubled the size of her lip glosses, replaced the awful applicator with a doe’s foot applicator, and only increased the price by one dollar!! These beauties are only $23.

Just look at all the gorgeous colors.  I am so excited about the improvements, I love Bobbi Brown lip gloss but I just hated the applicator and the tiny size.

She also has some truly beautiful mineral loose powder foundation out now.  Pictured above and below (very heavily swatched) is the color Light.

We found this foundation to be oh so silky and smooth, it’s really beautiful.  And no shiny bismuth in this baby.

The Bobbi Brown makeup artists are recommending the loose powder mineral foundation be applied with Bobbi’s face brush ($50).

We were very impressed with the Neiman Marcus exclusive, The Tailored Collection.  The brushes, palette, mascara, and bag all retail for only $100.

New at Le Metier de Beaute are two gorgeous nail polishes, Anatolia and Urban Dweller ($10).

I liked Anatolia best, and Marcia liked Urban Dweller.  Both of them are beautiful.

We are looking forward to the Le Metier skin care line release later this month!

Next stop – Guerlain.  They have some truly gorgeous new lipsticks and eyeshadow quads out now in their Fall 2011 collection.

Above are the testers for the Rouge G lipsticks ($47), and you can see the two bottom eyeshadow quads (Ecrin 4 Couleurs $59) as well.  I swatched some of the lipsticks, and they were so beautiful – pigmented but glossy, complex yet wearable colors.  I got all excited and swatched like crazy then forgot to write down which was which!  But here’s what they looked like:

And the eyeshadow quads were typical Guerlain fabulous.  Of course Marcia and I wanted every single one.  Here are some pics.

And finally, looking very pretty are the new berry colored lipsticks from Chantecaille.  These are the new colors in the Lip Chic Collection, Violetta and Calla Lily ($32).

The berry colors are perfect for the upcoming fall looks.

If you don’t have a Neimans nearby, don’t despair.  Just call Kim McFadden or Christine Wujczyk at 248-643-3300, extension 2104 and they would be thrilled to help you.  What new products are you most excited about?  – Lisa

I’ll be checking out all of these deals on Black Friday – what deals have you heard of that you can share?  – Lisa
