Wantable, you brought a big smile this April

Have you heard of Wantable? Of course you have. Lisa and I talk about it all the time. We are Wantable fiends. Lisa has become the Wantable Accessory fiend while I remain the Cosmetic Box fiend. We have our readers to thank for a lot of that because you’ve used our affiliate link to help us earn credits toward a box to review – like this April Cosmetic Subscription box.

Wantable Cosmetic Subscription for April 2014

Wantable Cosmetic Subscription for April 2014

You are going to have to forgive me a little or at least be prepared for me to gush. Yes I’m going to gush. There’s a gush-worthy item in this delightful box and I can’t stop myself.

To give a quick recap – you fill out a very comprehensive profile that Wantable keeps improving upon. You pay either $40 for a one time box or $36 for a subscription that you can cancel at any time. If you get a box that you don’t like, you can return it for a refund. So if I like nude lips and bright polish I’m not going to get a flaming red lipstick and a nude polish. Your box will always be worth at least double and sometimes a lot more than you’ve paid.

my loves, likes and dislikes

my loves, likes and dislikes

April’s box had some great products. From my “love” list is a Cailyn Cosmetics eyeliner. I’ve reviewed lots of Cailyn eyeliners but I’ve never had a regular pencil from them so this is a first. Not my favorite item in the box but something I’ll get a lot of use out of. ($7)

The rest of the items are from my “like” list but they are more loves than likes! Billion Dollar Brows Hint of Tint Taupe brow gel is one of the few BDB products I haven’t tried so I was happy to have this in my box. It’s great for the many days I’m rushing but need something on my brows without having to be precise. It has a mascara wand to combine color and hold. The more you use, the darker it becomes. It’s also good to have to hold other brow products in place like a cream color. ($18)

La Bella Donna Mineral Light Lip Color in Shell is a beautiful lipstick that is conditioning while being rich and creamy ($24.50). Shell is the color of my mother’s lips. I looked at it and instantly felt my mom. At the moment my mom is in a nursing center but the minute she is up to putting on makeup again, this will be hers. It’s a beautiful shade that I’m sure would be fine on me but it’s screaming Mom to me and I know it will look great on her. Plus who doesn’t want a new lipstick to feel better?

Now for my gush, I hope you are ready. When I opened the Wantable box and saw a box from GlamNatural I was really happy. When I saw the words CREAM BLUSH I did a happy dance. You know I love cream blush and I’ve only had the opportunity to try very small samples of GlamNatural Cream Blush before. I had ordered a sample kit from the company and I loved the blush but I didn’t have the exact right shade since it was too light. Well, gush gush, Wantable sent me Glam Natural Cream Blush in You Make Me Blush, and it does. I mean it does make me blush and beautifully so.

Let’s start with this luxurious packaging. Open the box and you’ll see a black velvet pouch with the blush contained in a golden bottle that pumps out what you need.

You don’t need this much because it’s so richly textured. The color of Make Me Blush gives a beautiful, healthy glow. It’s super easy to blend since it’s really a liquid. It’s very satiny. My advice is to pump out a very small amount and build it up if you want. The amount above is too much for both cheeks.

I’m in love with this cream blush ($32) and I’m thrilled that Wantable included it my April 2014 box. While they didn’t know that I’d love it, someone has very good taste to put this brand and this product in the box.

Other brands in other boxes this month were Chella (a tool kit that I’d have also gushed about), BelleZZa eyeshadow, ‘Tini Beauty lips and more. No matter which brands you’d end up with, you’d surely love them. And if not then have no fear and return the box.

I look so forward to my Wantable boxes coming. I am going to do a little switching on my profile to see what changes will do – just for the fun of it since I can always change back. I hope you’ll use our affiliate link if you do decide to subscribe. And I hope if you subscribe you’ll find things to GUSH about too. — Marcia

Side by Side – 10 top color items for 2011

Beauty Info Zone hasn’t done any top 10 lists lately and we’re way overdue. It was super hard to pick out of all the reviews we’ve done and narrow it down to only 10 products each so if we cheat a little, don’t be mad. We’ve both reviewed so many products that we reach for all the time. Here’s what’s standing out to Marcia and Lisa’s Top Ten for the first half of 2011.

MARCIA’S LIST:

  1. Rouge Bunny Rouge: Oh how I love my Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadows. Here are two reviews that I’ve written about them. There will be more to come! Start with my first RBR post and then read this post.
  2. Illamasqua nail polish: I love my nail polishes and I have used so many that have won my heart. But Illamasqua are the ones I’m lusting after.
  3. Face Stockholm: All the Face Stockholm products I’ve tried have been absolutely wonderful but if I have to pick one to live with forever after it would be the Rio cream blush.
  4. Billion Dollar Brows: Here’s where I cheated. I know I said 10 items but I use the BDB brow powder and tweezers every single day so I have to include them both. I would be lost without these now.
  5. Tarte Inner Rim Brightener: Another product I use every single day; I even have two since I don’t want to be without this.
  6. Le Métier de Beaute’ Fresh Creme Tints: I have all of these and I love them to pieces. I’m a cream girl/lady/woman and these are so creamy. They double as blush and lip tints.
  7. Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes: Cheating again, more Tarte but I can’t help it. These are the longest lasting powder blushes I’ve ever tried. Every color is fabulous too.
  8. Armani Intense Eyes to Kill eyeshadows:  These are unique on the market and I love using them. I’m so sad I didn’t buy more which means I will be buying more!
  9. Face Atelier Lip Putty: I picked this over all the other great Face Atelier products because I use it constantly. It’s the best product I own to prime my lips.
  10. Dan Read foundation: I know Lisa is going to mention this but the more I thought about the list, the more I realized I couldn’t write my top ten without it.

LISA’S LIST:

  1. Dan Read eyeshadows:  Everything about Dan Read makes me happy, especially his foundation, but I’m in an eyeshadow kind of mood lately and these have won my heart.
  2. Vasanti Eye Products: Every single eye product that I use from Vasanti is wonderful. Eye Wonder is a fabulous eye cream and Vasanti’s Moon Dust Shimmer Powder is amazing.
  3. OCC pigments:  I have always loved pigments and my collection is huge. OCC pigments stand out though because they are top notch and I love them all but Artifact is the very best.
  4. Cargo eyeshadow palettes: I’m obviously on an eyeshadow kick lately and Cargo started this kick. Once I tried their palettes I became more obsessed with eyes than ever. Cool Neutral has gotten me through many work days because I know that even if I wake up late I’ll end up with a polished eye.
  5. Unii palettes: I’m in love with the amazing colors of Unii palettes. They bring a smile to the face of this serial depotter. Anyone who likes their eyeshadows and blushes in palette form needs a collection of these.
  6. Cargo Magic Brush: This is the brush I choose if I can only have one brush. It’s so soft and does such a magical job on my face.
  7. Face Stockholm color correcting foundation: I’ve been amazed with the Matte Foundation in Lilac. I never thought something like this would work but oh my goodness, it’s a fabulous addition to your foundations.
  8. Face Stockholm blush: Shambella matte blush has been my most used blush lately. The quality is terrific, so incredibly smooth and easy to blend.
  9. Illuminare eyeliner: I never thought that I’d fall so in love with an eyeliner but Illuminare Beyond Black has stolen my heart.
  10. Illuminare foundation: Illuminare makes several formulas of foundation and I refuse to pick a favorite; I can’t help but love Extra Coverage foundation/concealer and Mattifying Mineral foundation. Add in their Fast Application Pad and you have perfection.

We hope you’ve gotten to the end of this very long article. We each could have done a list of 20 but we have to stop at some point. We will be following up with another Side by Side with our top 10 on other types of products.

Did we hit any of your favorites in this list? — Marcia and Lisa

Get plucky with Billion Dollar Brows

See this picture? It’s the proverbial desert island.

See this picture? It’s what is going with me when I’m banished to this desert island.

You’ll notice the chair in the picture. I’ll need that to prop up my 10x mirror so that I don’t end up looking like this picture.
When we think of a tweezers we usually think eyebrows. Well I do too but I also think of other facial hair (giving away my deep dark secrets here). Billion Dollar Brows has provided me with the best tweezers so that I can take care of all my unwanted facial hair. This tweezers ($20) is what’s used in the Billion Dollar Brows studios. It was perfected for use by their artists and it’s absolutely wonderful for grasping all the little hairs. It’s a stainless steel slant tip tweezers that was created to meet the high standards of the makeup artists that use them.

I am pretty paranoid about facial hair. While my vision isn’t quite what it used to be I still can see the unwanted hairs too easily. With BDB Tweezers I can grasp all the fine hairs as well as the stubborn prickly ones. This tweezers has become my new HG tool. It’s absolutely perfect.

When you pluck as many brows as a brow tech does then you need the best there is. When you pluck your very own brows you also need the best there is. That’s why you need bdb Tweezers. — Marcia

Billion $ Eyes with Billion Dollar Brows

Two years ago a group of makeup friends from Beauty Grapevine met in L.A. for days of glorious shopping and to go to the IMATS show. It’s hard to describe IMATS unless you’ve been there but it’s a makeup wonderland. Unfortunately this is a very crowded wonderland. One of the first booths I saw there was Billion Dollar Brows and it fascinated me. I labored over what I should buy since they had an eyebrow tool that looked fabulous but in the end I stuck with the tried and true and bought their Universal Brow Pencil. I had owned one previously and hadn’t replaced it so I plunked down my money and hurried on to the rest of the show fully planning to get back to Billion Dollar Brows. Unfortunately time and money (and my stamina) ran out and I didn’t get back to them but now I have that tool in my life!

Let me start with the Universal Brow Pencil ($14.95)  since it’s a tool I’ve used successfully for years. The color works well with most hair shades. It’s water resistant (good for my hot flashes) and easy to use. If your hair is very dark apply it with more pressure until you get the desired darkness, if it’s light then apply it with a lighter hand. The pencil is an automatic one so no sharpener is needed and there’s a spoolie on the opposite end.

Billion Dollar Brows also has two other products for coloring your brows. There’s BDB Brow Powder ($16) which comes in Blonde, Light Brown, Taupe and Raven.  I have it in Taupe and it’s a perfect shade. My brows are dark but I was taught not to put anything too dark on my brows since it’s aging especially in the front where my brows are sparse. The brow powder glides on easily with the Angled Brow Brush ($15) and is smoothed with the spoolie at the opposite end. The brush is firm yet soft. It’s got both natural and synthetic fibers to create the perfect touch.

Billion Dollar Brow Gel ($12) finishes the look.  It’s a clear gel that grooms those flyaway brow hairs while sealing in any color product you’ve used. I’ve used this alone on days I just want to groom my brows and I’ve used it with the powder to make sure that when hot flashes hit I still have some color on my brows. You’ve never seen me in action with a hot flash – I drip from my head on down! I’m grateful for BDB Brow Gel on those occasions.

I don’t want to neglect BDB’s “SECRET WEAPON” – Brow Duo Pencil ($18).  This is a two sided thick pencil that is like magic! One side contains a concealer and the other a highlighter. The highlighter is the star here but the concealer is great too. With the highlighter you glide the pencil directly under your eyebrows and then with either your finger or the BDB Smudge Brush you blend it in to frame and brighten your eyes.

b

The BDB Smudge Brush ($15) can be used in many ways. You can use it as recommended with the Brow Duo Pencil or you can use it to line, especially tightline, your eye liner shades (below brush on the right).

Because this review is so long already I’m going to do a part two with my absolute favorites from the line. I just wanted to whet your whistle and give you an introduction to a terrific company. You can find Billion Dollar Brows at Nordstrom, Beauty 360 and on their website. If you are ever in Beverly Hills you’d get the opportunity to go to their salon where it all started. Every product they make that I’ve tried is top-quality and tools you need in your arsenal. The website has short videos for each of their products to show exactly how to use them, that alone is top notch in my world.  – Marcia
