Sistar Cosmetics is a beautiful line that features naturally-derived, cruelty-free, and non-GMO beauty cosmetics. We definitely appreciate Sistar and you will too after reading our review of the Glo Glitter Eyeshadow and entering our giveaway!

Sistar’s GLO GLITTER EYESHADOW ($8.99) is a liquid eyeshadow that has all the emphasis on shine and glitter. There are 7 different beautiful shades to choose from, and these beauties can be worn alone or layered over another eyeshadow.

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow

There is an art to using glitter eyeshadows, and Sistar breaks it down into four simple steps:

Primer is a definite must for the Glo Glitter Eyeshadows, and the Glo Glitter Primer is a terrific option that really keeps the Glitter Eyeshadows in place with little fallout.

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow Primer

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow Primer

Usually glitter and I don’t mix…but the Glo Glitter Eyeshadows are really beautiful! As long as you follow the proper application techniques, they blend beautifully and really enhance your eyes without looking tacky. I am very impressed with the lack of fallout, which is because the Glo Glitters are a water-infused liquid. This means that the glitter really sticks to your eyelids and doesn’t end up all over your face.

You can use the Glo Glitters by themselves (although be sure to use a primer first), or you can layer them over eyeshadow. Either way is lovely, and with the does foot applicator, the actual application is so easy.  The Glo Glitter Eyeshadows go on wet, so you need to give it about 10 seconds for the drydown before opening your eye.

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow in 24K

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow in 24K

I have 24K, which is a shimmery gold. This isn’t one that I can pull off by itself because of my skin tone, but those with darker skin tones will absolutely rock this shade. Instead, I like to layer this over taupe and brown eyeshadows. The effect is gorgeous.

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow in Pink Pearl

Sistar Cosmetics Glo Glitter Eyeshadow in Pink Pearl

My other Glo Glitter is Pink Pearl, which is a shimmery medium pink. This one I can do alone – so pretty!  The shimmer is silvery and it really makes my brown eyes stand out. With Pink Pearl and lots of black eyeliner I am ready to take on the night!

Glo Glitter eyeshadow swatches in 24K and Pink Pearl

I just kept one of these Glo Getters so that the rest could be in our giveaway. Also with my older eyes I rarely use anything quite this glittery. Rosegold Glo Glitter is a beautiful shade that works especially well with my favorite eye shades.

Sistar Glo Glitter RoseGold

I don’t wear a whole glitter eye but I absolutely love to highlight the midpoint of my lid with a glittery or metallic eyeshadow. RoseGold is perfect for that. I take a very small brush to apply it midway on my lid just above my lashline. Then with that same brush or a slightly bigger blending brush I tap it on so that it gives me an almost halo look. It opens my eyes completely and makes them shine like a star.

Now let’s talk about removing a glitter eyeshadow so that you aren’t a glitter face for days. SISTAR has that covered so I just follow their directions:

These Sistar Glo Glitter cream eyeshadows are perfect for summer when you want to shine and will be a lot of fun during the winter holidays when you are partying and want to stand out. Therefore you want to enter our giveaway to win 4 Glo Glitters plus the Primer!

Marcia is using Raspberry Shortbread Shampoo Bar

Humboldt Soap Company Shampoo Bar in Raspberry Shortbread

If you are a Beauty Info Zone reader then you know that I’m extremely fussy about fragrance in products. That’s never been a problem for me before with Humboldt Soap Company so it was interesting to try the Raspberry Shampoo Bar and see what my nose and hair thought. Note that this is Fragrance Phthalate-Free.

Why raspberry?

Raspberries contain folic acid which is great for inducing hair growth
and making your hair shinier. Raspberries also contain vitamin C which
has been shown to be very beneficial in maintaining a healthy scalp.

The way to use this bar is to wet your hands and hair and then massage the bar onto your head. Work it in to achieve the amount of lather that you like though I never get a lot of lather. This is a great scalp cleanser as well as hair cleanser. Rinse well after and you are ready for your favorite style. Since my hair tangles easily I used a light conditioner after but that’s all I needed. I was able to comb through my hair with ease and without having to add any styling creams or gels.

Since I had a keratin straightening treatment about a month ago this information is very important to me: Vegan Friendly Keratin Protein extract of corn, wheat and soy to strengthen and enhance the elasticity of individual hair strands and reduce the “fly away” hair syndrome. As an additional benefit, keratin protein holds antioxidant benefits.

I wash my hair 2 – 3 times a week and am looking for shiny easy to manage hair. Humboldt makes that easy by using great ingredients like this: Macadamia Nut Oil fatty acid content is the real winner for skin and hair. Those fatty acids help to add shine, strengthen, and nourish the hair follicles, which in turn fight off hair loss and brittle strands. Macadamia oil is great for calming the hair of frizz, tangles, and

Amla Oil helps get rid of dry flakes from the scalp and dissolves grease and dirt from the follicles, improving overall scalp health.

What did I find using this? First I really enjoyed the fragrance of it since it was a true raspberry and not a sickly imitation. It made my shower time delightful. I was concerned that my shoulder length hair wouldn’t be soft and silky afterward but that was a mistake. I didn’t feel the need for a styling product which is a miracle. With my Wet Brush I was able to comb through with ease. And I enjoyed how my hair looked shiny and smelled great. The fragrance was noticeable to me for about half an hour and then I didn’t really notice it much. I actually wish it lasted longer since it’s so refreshing.

Lisa is using Mango Madness Shampoo Bar

I love the idea of shampoo bars – they are perfect for transport and environmentally conscious.  They are great for camping out or for plane travel since there is no danger of leaking.  Kids love them, and it makes bath time much easier.  Plus, really good shampoo bars leave hair smelling great while also rinsing out clean. My Humboldt Mango Madness Shampoo Bar lived up to my expectations for a shampoo bar and then some.

Humboldt Mango Madness Shampoo Bar

The Humboldt Shampoo Bars are discs of shampoo that are extremely condensed, about 60 to 100 times. In fact, one bar has roughly the same amount of shampoo as three regular plastic bottles of shampoo. This means that when you use a Humboldt Shampoo Bar, you are doing your part for the environment and reducing the amount of plastic waste.  I do recommend that you use a special soap dish for your shampoo bar, like the one I have pictured below – it’s called a Soap Lift ($6) and it really increases the life of your bar.

Humboldt Mango Madness Shampoo Bar

The Mango Madness Bar smells fabulous – it has a true mango scent that smells like a ripe, rich mango.  Mango is an excellent ingredient because it has tons of vitamin C which keeps your hair and scalp healthy.  It also has vitamin A, which is particularly good in a shampoo because it helps hair growth and it assists with sebum production, the stuff that keeps your scalp from getting dry and scaly.

If you have long hair like I do, there is a secret trick to using the Mango Madness Shampoo Bar.  If you rub the bar on your head like you’d think you should, you will find that long hair gets all tangled up and becomes a rather awkward experience. The trick for those with hair longer than shoulder length is to get your hair wet then smooth the bar straight down from crown to ends.

Tangles shouldn’t be a problem if you use the bar correctly, plus the Mango Madness Shampoo Bar has a detangling weapon ingredient – Abyssinian Oil, which also makes hair feel smooth and look shiny.

Humboldt Mango Madness Shampoo Bar

The Mango Madness Shampoo Bar leaves my hair feeling clean but not squeaky.  It has a lot of emollient ingredients, like cetyl alcohol and BTMS-50 that condition and moisturize hair.  Plus it has panthenol, which helps hair retain moisture.  When I use my Mango Madness Shampoo Bar, I only need to add conditioner to my ends which are always very dry.  I have colored hair and this bar is definitely mild enough and conditioning enough to make my hair vibrant.  Overall, my hair smells fantastic and looks great – soft and shiny.

We are loving the Humboldt Raspberry Shortbread and Mango Madness Shampoo Bars.  Take advantage of Amazon Prime Day and stock up on several of each!

G.M. Collin Masks have something for everyone

G.M. Collin face masks

Three masks, three different purposes, and three ways to bring your skin some added relief. That’s G.M. Collin and a portion of their mask collection. G.M. Collin isn’t a brand that you hear much about but that should change since my first experience with it has been one I want to continue. Altogether G.M. Collin has 8 uniquely formulated dermo-corrective solutions to perfect your complexion. The three newest ones are Aqua Mask, Glow Mask, and Pure Mask.

With all of these masks the directions are the same – on clean, dry skin apply uniformly on your face and neck. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off. It’s recommended to use them twice a week.

I found that these don’t drip so I could do other things while the masks did their job or I could relax with my iPad.

G.M. Collin Aqua Mask

I’ll play favorites and start with the Aqua Mask. Maybe it’s the remarkable blue gel that appeals so much to me because it reminds me of a vacation. It’s meant for all skin types and is not only refreshing but it’s very hydrating. The gel nourishes skin and keeps dryness away. The gel feels cool when you apply making this a summer treat.

G.M. Collin Aqua Mask

  • Provides an intense, immediate and long-lasting moisturization.
  • Replenishes and reinforces the skin’s barrier.
  • Visibly smoothes and restores suppleness.
  • Provides a sensation of well-being.
  • Infused with a powerful blend of moisturizing ingredients, like Polynesian water microorganisms, to visibly smooth and restore the suppleness of dehydrated and stressed skin.

    G.M. Collin Aqua Mask

My next favorite is the Glow Mask.

G.M. Collin Glow Mask

This is a creamy orange mask that is a vitamin cocktail disguised as a facial mask. This one is so great for your skin. It’s meant to bring dull complexions and fatigued skin back to life.

G.M. Collin Glow Mask

Formulated with Camu camu extract and vitamins, this deliciously creamy mask:

  • Revives tired-looking skin.
  • Provides a radiant glow to the skin.
  • Moisturizes and nourishes the skin.
  • Decreases skin redness.

I love how my face looks and especially how it feels after using Glow Mask. While I don’t exactly glow, I’m no longer feeling dry and aching for moisture on my dry skin.

The third one I have is Pure Mask. This purple mask is a clay mask so it’s especially good for people with oily or problem skin. It helps to clean out your pores too which is why I occasionally will use a clay mask. It’s not a go-to mask for me but one I like having in my collection so that I can clear up my skin when necessary.

G.M.Collin Pure Mask

The ingredients in Pure Mask is what makes this a vital mask for some people. It contains both Bentonite and Kaolin Clay to detoxify and reduce excessive sebum. It has antioxidants from super berries that provide protection from free radical damage and environmental toxins that can clog pores. This purifying blend contains Salicylic Acid, combined with a complex of natural botanicals and extracts that work to alleviate redness and improve over all texture.

G.M.Collin Pure Mask

This is the only one of the three masks that has an obvious fragrance. It contains a Rose Myrtle extract called Acnilys, which acts as an oily skin regulator, decreases visible skin redness, tightens the appearance of pores and limits inflammatory lesions. The fragrance was strong as I first applied the mask but lessened within the time I used it and didn’t linger on my skin.

G.M.Collin Pure Mask

You can find GM Collin Masks at (lower price there),, (receive 10% off your first buy there) and at many spas.

As someone who believes in the power of a good mask I think these are great to help your skin achieve your maximum beauty.  —  Marcia

Recipes for gorgeousness! DIY Beauty by Ina de Clercq

DIY Beauty by Ina de Clercq

Are you a do-it-yourselfer? If so, I have an excellent book for you! As cosmetics lovers we are well aware of the monetary cost of being aficionados…although our significant others may not be (ha!). Making your own products can save tons of money, plus there is a real satisfaction in choosing which quality ingredients go into your creations. And let’s face it – it’s just cool to know how to make deodorant, whipped body cream, and bath bombs. There are quite a few excellent do-it-yourself books on the market, but what makes DIY Beauty by Ina de Clercq  ($17.99) different is all of her recipes are inspired by favorites from current lines. So, do you love La Mer’s The Body Crème but just can’t afford it right now?  You can make your own! How about Nars the Multiple? No problem. MAC’s Cleanse Off Oil? The recipe is easy.

sample, affliate links

There are over 100 recipes in DIY Beauty that range from face masks to cream eyeshadows. The recipes aren’t difficult, although some do require using a double boiler. DIY Beauty addresses proper storage for each recipe, as well as how long the homemade product will last.

The chapters include recipes for every kind of face mask, hair products, moisturizers and eye cream, deodorant, blemish cream, lip gloss and lip balm, bronzer, eye shadow, highlighter, loose powder, makeup cleanser, body scrubs, body oil, hand soap, bath bombs, foot soaks…the list is incredible! The recipes are inspired by products from lines like Kiehls, Dr. Jart+, Tom Ford, Moroccanoil, Lush, Dior, Korres, La Mer, Bumble and Bumble, The Body Shop, Nars, MAC…too many to list!

What I really appreciate are the notes on how to customize the recipes so you can create products that are perfect for you. I am also not the most artistic person, but I find these recipes to be extremely easy to follow, and the ingredients aren’t things that are difficult to find. While DIY Beauty doesn’t list specific resources for ingredients and containers, I have a few to recommend that I think are wonderful.

For supplies, I like Mary Tylor Naturals. I reviewed this company a few years ago HERE which is actually what started my love of DIY beauty products. I made a moisturizing cream that I still love and I have some friends who ask me to make it for them. Mary Tylor Naturals has almost everything that is called for in the DIY book – the only ingredient I couldn’t find was the cosmetic mica for colored cosmetics products, but you can find that at any of these links:

DIY Beauty is an excellent book with creative but easy to make recipes for beauty products, all based on our favorites from big lines. It is a ton of fun, and your products will last for months! You can find DIY Beauty at most book stores, as well as online at Amazon.  – Lisa

Taking care of lips and toes with Soapcreek Company Lip Mend and Heel Butter

What areas need special attention in the summer? Lips and feet! Lips need extra moisture and care with sun exposure – days at the beach can really irritate and dry out the delicate skin. And hot summer days mean sandals, which means feet are out in the open…they need some extra love too! The Soapcreek Company has two products that I have been using nonstop on these lovely summer days:  Lip Mend and Heel Butter.

Soapcreek Company has a lot more than just soap!  Soapcreek Company is one of those wonderful lines that has exquisite products that are all natural, made with the best ingredients, and done with an artistic flair. Everything is made by hand without any synthetic fragrances, dyes or  harsh chemicals and their packaging is all from renewable sources.

Soapcreek Company Lip Mend

Soapcreek Company Lip Mend

Soapcreek Company’s Lip Mend ($5.95) is a luscious lip balm that features great ingredients that my lips love. Lip Mend has a combination of coconut, jojoba seed and sweet almond oils that dry lips just drink in. There are eight different varieties available on the website right now, each with a different plant essential oil – my personal favorite is the Orange Dream Lip Mend with the Moist Mint as a close runner-up. There are some other very interesting ones available, like Mint Mojito and Bergamot Blush.  Lots of fun for lips!

Soapcreek Company Heel Butter

Soapcreek Company Heel Butter

What Lip Mend does for lips, Heel Butter ($9.95) does for feet. Heel Butter is a super rich balm that soothes dry, cracked heels and makes feet incredibly soft. It melts right in, and I love the results. I recently went for a pedicure and my nail tech was amazed at how soft and smooth my feet were. She asked if I regularly exfoliated and I said no…but I do use Soapcreek Company Heel Butter! She was so impressed she wanted the website and the info. Heel Butter makes feet summer and sandal ready, no doubt about it.  I have the Peppermint Tea Tree version, although right now it looks like the only available is the Lavender Eucalyptus Heel Butter. Because everything at Soapcreek Company is made by hand, their stock varies.

For summer ready lips and toes, I highly recommend that you head over to and have a look! And don’t forget to pick up some soap – previously reviewed HERE.   – Lisa

My nails are craving more from Ani Michele

Ani Michele nail polish

There are many humanitarian reasons why I am crazy about the Ani Michele nail polishes I was sent and then there are reasons why I’ve fallen for these.

Ani Michele polishes are 7 free which means that they don’t contain Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Camphor, Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP) or Xylene. All of these add up to polishes that are healthier for your nails.

And even more importantness  – Ani Michele’s polishes are vegan, certified cruelty-free, and made in the USA. Why that sentence is a rave in itself.

Ani Michele For The Love of Blue

Why else? Well on the back of each polish there’s a positive saying. Ani Michele was created by Ani Sousamian who wanted her products to be safe to use. She also wants to make a positive impact on women everywhere and “to reach for the stars and do what motivates them to make a difference for themselves and those around them”.

I’ve worn each of the three polishes for a full week and in those weeks I’ve enjoyed long lasting color that doesn’t fade, stays shiny, and looks as good on day 7 as on day 1.

Ani Michele

There are just 4 polishes in the Pastel group and I chose a winner with Go To Pink. It’s the shade I used to wear and then it suddenly disappeared and I’ve been craving it for ages.

Ani Michele Go To Pink

Go To Pink is an opaque cream in a very light but somehow bright cool pink shade. It’s on the thick side so someone with short nails could get away with one coat but I found that two coats smoothed it out to make it look its best. I got so many people commenting on my nails when wearing this that it surprised me. There obviously aren’t enough beautiful light cool pinks around but there is Go To Pink!

Ani Michele For The Love of Blue

Ani Michele For The Love of Blue

Next I tried a metallic polish because I adore metallic polishes. For The Love of Blue makes me want this gorgeous shade for my next car. It’s a fabulous dark blue with just enough of the metallic finish to make it stand apart from the 345678 other blue polishes out there. It’s a very rich cool blue that is stunning on. The one caveat with For The Love of Blue is that it’s a stainer so make sure you use a basecoat and when removing use a different piece of cotton for each nail.

Ani Michele City Lights

Ani Michele City Lights

Ani Michele City Lights

I know we aren’t supposed to pick favorites but c’mon you all – we do. It’s not like I’ll hurt the feelings of Go To Pink or For The Love of Blue by telling you that City Lights has my heart. First, it’s a holo and I am nutsy about holographic polish. Second, it got the most beautiful shimmer within so it feels like you are wearing different polishes wherever you go. I felt like it was a dark blue almost denim base. The holo has subtle shimmers in every color and they work together to make your nails outstanding looking.

Ani Michele City Lights

Ani Michele City Lights

I see so many other polishes on the Ani Michele website including Smile With Your Heart, a bright cheery red with 20% of the proceeds being donated to Caps for Kids, a children’s cancer charity. To me this color and others from the brand show the heart and love that Ani puts into her products.  —  Marcia
