AN Classic

AN Classic Rose Hydrating Mist

The Classic Rose Hydrating Mist ($25) is something I have used for years. The roses used in this toner come from the “Valley of Roses” in Bulgaria. It has organic Rose Hyrdosol in it to soothe and refresh your skin. I like to spray some onto a cotton pad to smooth on after cleansing or sometimes I spritz it on to freshen up and hydrate my skin. I use it before I put on my makeup and any time I want a little pick-me-up. It’s a beautiful product.

verbena

Verbena Blossom Hydrating Body Scrub

Verbena Blossom Hydrating Body Scrub ($28) is exfoliating deliciousness, a non-separating sugar scrub that feels like heaven as it softens and polishes your skin. It’s not the least bit greasy, it’s light and whipped into a state of perfection.

Verbena Blossom Anti-Oxidant Body Lotion

Verbena Blossom Anti-Oxidant Body Lotion

The Verbena Blossom Anti-Oxidant Body Lotion ($26) is a light but creamy lotion that moisturizes and nourishes the skin. It’s just perfect to use after the Verbena Blossom Hydrating Body Scrub. The elegant combination of anti-oxidants protect the skin from pollution and other environmental stressors, and the scent is gorgeous. It’s a fresh, citrusy, uplifting scent that I absolutely adore. Artisan Naturals is available at local boutiques so take a look at the website to find a store near you or you can also buy products online.

Living in the moment with Artisan Naturals Aromatherapy Candles

A few weeks ago I was messing around on the computer and I came across a picture of me with my daughter when she was just a baby.

I looked at it in wonder, I could not believe that the picture had been taken five whole years ago.  Where did that time go??  And then I started thinking, you know, we get so wrapped up in lists of things to do and the business of working and family that it’s very easy to forget to slow down, take some deep breaths, and just appreciate the moment.

I decided that I am going to stop wondering where the time went, and instead focus on the moment and appreciate what I have right now.  One way to do this is to use ritual, to make it a point every single day to do something simple that brings you into the moment and helps you focus on what is right now, not what is past or what is coming up in the future.  For my ritual, I light a candle.

I like to use the Aromatherapy Soy Candles by Artisan Naturals.  I love how they come in these beautiful 8 oz. size travel tins and have cotton wicks which give a cleaner, non-smoky burn.  These candles are full of essential oils and are made with soy wax.  There are six different scents available.

The tops are sprinkled with botanicals – isn’t it lovely?  And you get a complimentary matchbook with each candle.

Artisan Naturals Breathe Aromatherapy Candle

The Breathe Aromatherapy Candle with Peppermint and Rosemary ($16) is an exceptional candle that definitely brings me back into the moment.  The scent is fresh and clean with peppermint, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils that also help calm any respiratory ailments.  Every morning I light this candle and sit quietly for one minute, breathing deep and thinking of all the things in my life I am so grateful for.  And I do this again at night, right before I go to sleep.   It’s a beautiful way to start and end my day, and it reminds me how very lucky I am.  Last night I did this with my daughter, and she was thrilled – we took turns saying something we were grateful for, which for her ranged from soft bed sheets to her new Spy Kit so she could spy on her brother.

Artisan Naturals is a gorgeous line with amazing skin care as well as a full range of aromatherapy candles.  Take a few moments to check out the website, and create a quick ritual of your own to help you remember and honor all the blessings in your life.  – Lisa

Lisa’s Top Picks of 2011: Skin Care, Body Care, and the rest!

A few days ago I posted my favorite color items, you can find that post here.  ‘Top picks’ posts are the ones I enjoy writing up the most, I love sharing the extra good stuff with you, and I love being able to put all this fabulousness in one review!  I was going to publish today’s post of my favorite skin care, body care, and other miscellaneous items yesterday, but boy did I get hit with the flu.  I’m all better now, so here is my list for you.

Favorite skin care:

I found several skin care items that I am constantly reaching for over and over. I love the Chella Foaming Cleanser Lavish Souffle, it the perfect cleanser and you only need a tiny bit.

Chella Foaming Cleanser

I really got into natural organic lines, like Annmarie Gianni Skin Care Neroli Toning Mist and Coconut Oil, beautiful products from a fantastic line with a great message.

I also loved the Artisan Naturals Lemon Cypress Exfoliating Mask, which is my favorite go-to for pesky breakouts.

To even out my skin tone, I have been absolutely loving the Omorfies Etenia Lightening Cream by Kleraderm.

Two other skin care lines that I adore are 3Lab (for their amazing Super Eye Treatment and Perfect Lips)

and YBF Skin Care (Hydrate B and Boost are flipping fabulous).

YBF Boost

Favorite primer:

This one is a tie for me.  I am completely impressed with Reviva Labs Makeup Primer,

it’s a great silicone based primer that actually goes on light.

And I am totally loving the Youngblood Mineral Primer,

Youngblood Mineral Primer

which has a wonderful texture and really helps my makeup stay put all day.

Favorite Facialist:

My favorite facialist this year was Joanne Kallabat, owner of Kleraderm.

Joanne Kallabat with her son, Michael

It’s such a treat to go to Nordstrom and get a $150 facial for only $20 – plus she gives the BEST face massage ever.  I love how she gives tons and tons of samples first.  She wants to figure out what works best for your skin before she will even let you buy anything!

Favorite Fragrances:

I have completely embraced the layering concept by Lisa Hoffman, and her Tuscan Fig fragrance is just to die for.

Lisa Hoffman Variations case with the Tuscan Fig fragrance

Plus, her iScentify scent finder is super fun to play with.

I also fell in love with the Juara Candlenut Fragrance.

This is a swoon-worthy coconut scent that makes everyone want to hug you.  And then hug you again.

Favorite storage solution:

Wow, this one was a life changer – the Zuca Pro Artist Case.

It has totally changed my organizational system, and has made makeup gigs so much easier, as well as travel.  Looks like we are going to be doing more contests with Zuca this year, so stay tuned!!

Favorite hand cream:

I am a hand cream addict, since I work at a school and need to wash my hands about twenty times a day.  I cannot do without my Votre Vu Duette Lux Lip Balm and Hand Cream.

Little mirror, lip balm, and then hand cream, all in one package??  Absolute genius, and the hand cream smells truly amazing.

Favorite body products:

2011 was a Whish year for me, that’s for sure. I love this retro line, every single product is a winner.

Just this morning I was thanking the Whish Gods for making their amazing Shave Crave Shaving Cream.

Tarte Cosmetics is a line better known for its great color products, but a true unsung hero is the Tarte Celebutante.

It’s a gorgeous body shimmer spray that smells unbelievably good, like fresh coconut and vanilla.  Yummy!!

Speaking of coconuts, I went pretty ‘coconutty’ for the Bodycology Island Coconut products.

The body cream, body wash, and body spray are all truly terrific, and I reach for them all the time.

Favorite sunning/self-tanner products:

I am a big fan of faux tanning, and I had some great discoveries this past year.  Hampton Sun is a go-to line for any sun products, including faux tanning.  I love the Privet Blossom products, they have a unique scent that is totally summer in a bottle.

Hampton Sun Shimmer Spray in Bronze

The spray SPF is amazing, and the faux tanning and body shimmer products are excellent.  Try this line, you won’t be disappointed.

Another great discovery that changed my faux tanning was the Beautisol Self Tanning Magic Mitt.

This $6 wonder completely changed my faux tanning experience for the better!!  No streaks, no worries, no problems.  Love it!!

I also fell in love with Tan Towels.  Such a quick, sanitary way to get a deep tan, plus the towelettes travel so well.

Miscellaneous:

Favorite cleaning products:

Dusting Fragrance

I am the first to admit that housekeeping is never a priority for me, so finding things that help make cleaning joyful is huge for me.  Sweet Grass Farm has pretty awesome cleaning products that give me extra motivation, my favorites are the Dusting fragrance and Lemon Verbena Liquid Soap.

Favorite clothing line:

I am totally digging the Sprigs clothing line.  Pictured above I am wearing my Banjee while shopping.  I love these little guys, they really do make life easier.  And I wear my infinity scarves all the time too.  So many great items, it’s a fabulous line that I am so happy I discovered this year!

That’s it for all my favorites of 2011.  And now on to an amazing year of even more terrific discoveries in 2012!!  – Lisa

Side by Side – Top Ten products for 2011

We recently enthralled you with our Top Ten products in the color department and today we’ll do the same but with products in other categories. These are all items we’ve reviewed in the first 6 months of 2011 and have fallen in love with. It’s always hard to narrow down lists like this since there are so many others that we can recommend but we beat our heads against the wall and this is what we came up with. They aren’t listed in any particular order.

LISA’S TOP TEN

1.  YBF Skincare – I love everything I’ve tried from the line but I’ve only reviewed Boost and Hydrate B Concentrate. Both make any other products I use work better so they had to be part of my top 10.
2.  Skin 2 Skin Care – the Photoaging Repair Cream has become a staple for me.  I am saying goodbye to hyperpigmentation with regular use of this fabulous, elegant product.

3.  Makeup for Ageless Beauty by Linda Mason – I learned so much from this wonderful book. It’s the perfect book for those of us 40 and above. Linda Mason uses older models and realistic makeup as well as helps us solve problems. Highly recommended.
4.  Argan Magic hair products – What a fabulous line and it’s so affordable. I adore all 3 of the products I’ve used and I hope you’ll not only go read about them in my review but buy them too. You’ll be just as thrilled as I am.
5.  Beautisol Self Tanner – I’m obsessed with self tanners and Beautisol is one of the absolute best products on the market. One of these days I’ll even convince the pale Marcia that she’ll be safe with Beautisol.
6.  Sweet Grass Farms – Where to begin? I can’t pick out a favorite so you’ll just have to believe me that everything I’ve tried from Sweet Grass Farms is wonderful.
7.  Artisan Naturals – This is another brand I can’t get enough of. I’ve used Artisan Naturals for several years and every product is amazing. Good for you and good for the environment.
8.  Tarte Celebutante – I call this the unsung hero of Tarte’s line because you never hear about it but you should. Reread my review to see why.
9.  Xen-Tan – This is the most clever self-tanner on the market. The dial makes for perfect color no matter what shade you’d like your tan to be.

10.  Whish Shave Savour Hair Inhibitor – It’s summer and I hate shaving. Whish to the rescue.

MARCIA’S LIST:

  1. Sirius Skincare machine – This wonderful, affordable skincare machine is perfect for cleansing, hydrating, exfoliating and just making my skin glow.
  2. Stages of Beauty – Stages of Beauty Grace Cream comes to bed with me every night. They’ve perfected a brand for each age group and I appreciate this greatly.
  3. DNA EGF sunscreen  – This is the sunscreen that I use most days, no fragrance, moisturizing and gentle on my skin. Plus it’s got all this science behind it!
  4. Aveeno sun tour – the Aveeno Sunscreen Cancer tour is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself this summer. I learned so much about skin cancer and I’m grateful that Aveeno is providing this free service.
  5. Evan Healy – it’s unusual that a skincare company sells a trial kit so that you don’t have to shell out big bucks to make sure that a line works for you. Evan Healy has 3 kits and I’ve tried the Rose kit. It’s a line that I highly recommend.
  6. Enzo Skin Pure Vitamin E Oil - By far my favorite skincare product of the year. I love my Pure Vitamin E Oil. You’d think with summer that an oil would be too rich for your skin but you’d be thinking wrong. I still get dry patches and I know that Enzo Skin works for me each and every time.
  7. Exuviance Age Reversal eye cream – Oh I love eye creams and I have a ton (just bought a few more too!!) Exuviance though has been the one I’ve been reaching for most nights. It’s not too rich and it’s not too light, it’s just right.
  8. Real Techniques brushes (Pixiwoo) – Love, love, love. These brushes are worth every penny (and that’s about all they cost). I am constantly using the face brushes especially. The quality is amazing.
  9. YBF Skincare Define and Quench  – Lisa and I agree wholeheartedly about the YBF brand. Absolutely everything I’ve tried is wonderful. For my top ten I’m picking Define and Quench for lips since both have helped me since I tend to ignore my lips when doing skincare. Whenever I use these YBF products I’m reminded of how great they are.
  10. Sebastian Color Ignite - Sebastian Color Ignite Shampoo and Conditioner are products I recommend over and over. Whenever I’m asked about my hair (and it’s pretty often actually) I mention these. They are easy to find, reasonably priced and make my hair beautiful. Thanks for rereading our top 10. These are the standouts among other standouts.

Glowy, soft skin from Artisan Naturals

Not too long ago, I wrote about one of my most favorite organic skin care lines, Artisan Naturals.  Today I have more to report.  In addition to the terrific cleanser, toner, and masks from this line, I also really love the serums and moisturizers.  Here are some that are currently in heavy rotation for me:

In the mornings, I then apply the Ultra-C Antioxidant Treatment Serum ($27).  This does a great job of tackling my hyperpigmentation issues.

It has a slight citrusy scent that dissipates quickly.  It’s also moisturizing, so if you have oily skin to begin with you probably wouldn’t need another moisturizer.

My crazy skin is both, though – very oily through the t-zone, and very dry on my cheeks.   So in the mornings I use the Environmental Defense Antioxident Creme ($36) over the Ultra-C.

This beautiful, elegant moisturizer is full of antioxidents, with ingredients including extracts of pomegranate, strawberry, and date.  Yum, it’s almost good enough to eat!

At night, instead of the Ultra-C and the Environmental Defense moisturizer, I use the Luminous Glow Night Time Treatment Serum ($36).

This is a fragrance free 8% AHA product that really makes skin supple and glowy.  I also find that while it’s not billed as an ‘anti-acne’ product, it helps keep my skin clear due to the great job it does exfoliating.

I absolutely adore this line, I love what the products do for my skin.  I am trying out even more Artisan Naturals now too, and I’ll be reporting on them soon.  Check out their website, they often run some great specials.  And enjoy the holiday weekend!  – Lisa

Getting clear, blemish-free skin with Artisan Naturals

Artisan Naturals is cruelty free, all natural skin care line that I have used for over five years now.  I try many skin care lines, but I always come back to Artisan Naturals.  I find the product formulations to be elegant, extremely effective and affordable, and the customer service is amazing.

As I get older, my skin gets crazier.  Do you find that to be true for you?  It just baffles me.  I am battling wrinkles, dark under eye circles, hyper-pigmentation, and blemishes.  I swear I have more hormonal breakouts now than I ever did!  I love the Artisan Naturals products that address the needs of acne-prone skin because they take care of business without giving me dry flakiness.  Trust me, I am flaky enough as it is.

Above is the Green Tea Clarifying Cleanser with AHA ($24).  Lovely stuff, it’s a gel cleanser that gives a bit of foam.  It cleanses the skin thoroughly without stripping, which can cause even worse break outs.  The AHA’s exfoliate, getting rid of dirt and dead skin cells.

After cleansing, I use the Willowbark Anti-Acne Clarifying Toner ($19).    This is a gentle toner that fights the bacteria that cause acne and also helps exfoliate the skin.  It has a spray pump so it’s extremely hygienic.

After toning, once or twice a week I use this – the Lemon Cypress Exfoliating Face Mask ($22), one of my ‘secret weapons’.

I think over the years I have gone through about ten jars of this.  I ADORE it.  Lemon and cypress exfoliate the skin, plus it has tiny jojoba beads that really tackle dead skin and clogged pores.  I put this on and leave it for about ten minutes.  Then, I massage it in, and those little beads feel amazing.  After it’s washed off, skin is bright and clear and radiant.  LOVE it!!  If I feel a breakout coming on, I use this mask, and most of the time it takes care of the problem before it even truly manifests.

I also use the Zinc and Aloe Anti-Acne Treatment Serum ($19).  The zinc kills the bacteria that causes acne, and the aloe soothes my skin and keeps it from getting too dry.  It’s a very effective yet gentle acne treatment.

I know I have thrown a few products at you all at once, and this is only one part of the great skin care items available from Artisan Naturals.  There are other products geared toward all skin types, dry skin, and mature skin.  I urge you to go to the website to peruse the products.  Everything I have tried has been nothing short of terrific.  This is, most definitely, a fabulous skin care line that is worth every penny!!  – Lisa
