Makeup splurges for better or worse

What constitutes a makeup splurge? Is it money? Is it the lack of resistance? Is it weakness? I say it all depends on the situation. A splurge can be something that’s $5 or something that’s $100. It’s all what you believe you want rather than just need. Today I’m featuring 7 products that I feel I splurged on. Some are worth every cent, some are regrets. Please check out my choices to see if you agree.  —  Marcia

NATASHA DENONA EYESHADOW PALETTE 10 ($95)

Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10

This is my most expensive splurge and one I’m on the fence about. $95 is a lot to spend on a palette but it does have 10 gorgeous shades that are outside of my comfort zone to some degree. The shades are #56p Pearl (champagne toned shimmer), #06p Anthrazit (charcoal black with a subtle silver shimmer), #47p Dark Sepia (dark chocolate brown with a slight gold shimmer), #02m Blue Space (rich royal blue with a shimmer finish), #27m Slate (vivid purple shimmer), #19m Deep Teal (intense teal shimmer), #25m Aura (cream white with a gold iridescent finish), #13m Raw Gold (deep gold with a bronze undertone), #87m Light Coral (peach shadow with a subtle gold shimmer), #07m Graphite (dark grey with silver shimmer).

Natasha Denona Eyeshadow Palette 10

As you can see these are all shimmer shades but the extent of the shimmer is unique to each shade. It’s really not the most practical palette because of all the shimmer. The problem for me isn’t the cost though but the quality of the shades isn’t uniform. Some apply easily while others want to fight with me.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE?  Depends, it got me over my Natasha Denona craving and I didn’t buy the more expensive palettes. I like this but I can’t say I love it. (Swatches from Sephora, mine don’t look like this though)

PRETTY VULGAR NIGHTINGALE EYESHADOW PALETTE ($35)

After falling in love with Pretty Vulgar Early Bird Eyeshadow palette I was anxious for more. But I’m a pretty staid individual colorwise so I went with the tried and true. Considering I have 357962 nude and brown palettes did I need this? That’s why it’s a splurge, I don’t need it.

Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? I’m the wishy washy queen right now because I haven’t decided. I’ve had it for a few weeks and haven’t touched it. Some of the Early Bird shadows are disappointing and I’m worried that I’ll find that here too. What to do?

Pretty Vulgar Nightingale Eyeshadow Palette

DIOR METALIZER – METAL CREME SHADOW ($25)

Once I saw the Dior Metalizers reviewed I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Metallics are hot for fall and I’ve always loved metallics in accessories and cosmetics. I chose Bronze Tension – mistake! It’s too dark and doesn’t blend well on me.

Dior Metalizer Cream Shadow in Bronze Tension

I want to like this so badly that I can taste it. I love to start with a cream shadow and use it as a base or to highlight powders. But I picked the wrong shade. I don’t see any metallic on my eyes with this very dark shade. (inject crying emoji here)

Dior Metalizer Cream Shadow in Bronze Tension

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? Obviously not which saddens me.

STILA HUGE EXTREME LASH MASCARA ($23)

There’s a story behind buying this mascara. I received a sample size in one of my subscriptions and put it aside for a while. When cleaning to move I find it and tried it. I totally fell in love with it. Wearing Stila Huge was like being granted false eyelashes. You know I couldn’t wait to buy this in spite of having umpteen unopened mascaras.

Stila Huge Extreme Mascara

Stila Huge Extreme Mascara

Well … the tube I bought is a dud. Some days my lashes look totally amazing, other days they are a mushy mess. I’ve determined that the problem is that the opening for the wand is too large which makes too much mascara coming out. There’s none of that satisfying sound you hear when opening a tube. Even cleaning it off doesn’t guarantee that I’ll love my lashes that day.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? With mascara you just never know what you’re going to get. One tube can make angels sing, the next tube can make them cry. This makes my lashes cry 50% of the time.

ARTIS PALM BRUSH ($65)

The Artis Palm Brush is absolutely incredible. My words can not describe how much I love this brush and the Artis Oval 10 brush. Yes expensive, yes worth every cent to me. Here’s a description that explains the Palm Brush: “A brush with a generously sized, rounded oval of fibers to provide coverage to a larger areas of the face and body. It features more than 250,000 fibers. Artis brushes are made exclusively with CosmeFibre, a revolutionary engineered fiber made for applying cosmetic and makeup products.”

Artis Palm Brush

I use this and the Oval 10 for liquid foundation since I can’t believe the softness of the brushes and the airbrushed application.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? Without a doubt. Even though I have the Oval 10 which is the same except that the Palm brush doesn’t have a handle, I wanted this and caved. Happy happy.

TARTE SHAPE TAPE aka DOUBLE DUTY BEAUTY SHAPE TAPE CONTOUR CONCEALER ($25)

So I found myself in Ulta without a plan to buy anything and I came across the infamous Tarte Shape Tape. When Shape Tape first came out you couldn’t find it anywhere not even Tarte’s website. That made the hunt more real. The last thing I needed was another concealer.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair Beige

This very fat tube and very fat wand are quite interesting. I’ve always liked the concealers that Tarte makes and this one intrigued me. There are 14 shades to choose from and several that are light enough for me. After much deliberation I chose Fair Beige which I now see is for fair skin with pink undertones. The color choice was right.

Tarte Shape Tape Concealer in Fair Beige

Ulta explains how to use this as a contour and as a concealer. I mainly use it under my eyes. I rarely start a day with concealer but I do add it if I’m going somewhere later in the day or evening. “Powered by Amazonian clay and conditioning mango seed and shea butters, the nutrient-rich concealer helps promote skin elasticity and illumination with each crease-free application.”

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? At first I didn’t think so but it’s really grown on me. I have a ton of concealers and wondered why I bought another, but I’m glad I did. It doesn’t crease under my eyes and does a good job of covering everything up.

KJAER WEIS CREAM BLUSH – BLOSSOMING ($56)

Now this was a true splurge. I actually had no intention of buying this and then suddenly it was in my cart and on my CC. Hmm. I did no research into this other than knowing that Kjaer Weis was a luxury brand and that the reviews were amazing. But it’s a cream blush and I’m a nut for cream blush.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush

The first thing to know is that this is the heaviest cosmetic I own. It could be used as a weapon. The metal compact is beautiful on my vanity and slides open to display the creamiest of all cream blushes.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming

Blossoming is a beautiful light peachy pink shade that is subtle yet shows up perfectly on my fair skin. I’m totally in love with this color.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming

Kjaer Weiss blush is – Certified organic – Formulated with Rose Rubiginosa Seed Oil to fight signs of aging – Free from gluten, petroleum, parabens, artificial coloring and fragrance. This comes in 5 shades that all look totally amazing to me. Lovely is on my list for the next time I “need” to splurge.

Kjaer Weis Cream Blush in Blossoming

This isn’t a cream to powder but it’s not sticky. I apply a light amount of setting powder to my cheeks first and then use my finger to blend the cream on. It melts onto my finger and applies like buttah! It’s infused with Castor Seed and Jojoba Oils to help strengthen and nourish the skin and has a Beeswax base that’s well-suited to all complexions.

WAS THIS A GOOD SPLURGE? Yes yes and yes again. I love it and when I can afford it I’ll purchase another.

If you don’t know about Artis brushes it’s time to find out. These luxurious brushes have been created by one of the makeup industry’s innovators and a former MAC Cosmetics senior executive. Founder Matthew Waitesmith has always had a unique and forward-looking perspective on makeup and application.  He was convinced a true makeup brush should be focused on the challenges of makeup “self-application”, and delivering superior cosmetic performance. Waitesmith pushes the envelope of what makeup brush design can be with Artis, offering a complete range of patented, Designer Cosmetic Brushes which combine ergonomics with design, function and performance.

My very favorite brush is the Oval 10 that I use for foundation. It makes applying makeup one of the best parts of the day. Soft yet plush, it’s heaven on earth.

Artis Oval 10 Brush

During the last HSN special I bought the Palm Brush. Basically it’s the same brush as the Oval 10 but without the handle. The Oval 10 takes a very long time to dry. I wash it about twice a week but I was miserable when it was out of commission. The Artis Elite Palm Brush was on sale with free shipping and no tax and I couldn’t resist. Call me happy!!!

We are all beauty enthusiasts so favorite brushes is done with ease. For me though it’s narrowing down my huge collection to just the ones I use all the time. I love luv crave brushes and even though I have over 100 the ones I’m sharing today are the ones I use every week if not daily. A few were sent for review but the majority are ones I’ve purchased and would gladly do again.

Artis Oval 10

Artis Oval 10

When I first reviewed Artis Oval 10 I didn’t realize that it would eventually become my all time favorite face brush. I am madly in lust over this brush. At the time I was using it for powder but I soon learned that it was ideal for foundation. It gives me the smoothest visage ever and makes my skin look airbrushed. With over 250,00 soft bristles it marries the best of two worlds with its softness and refined blending application.

At $77 it’s expensive but the cost is small in proportion to my use and adoration. (Available at Saks and the Artis website)

MAC EYESHADOW BRUSHES

MAC eye brushes 239, 272, 219, 217

MAC eye brushes 239, 272, 219, 217

My first cosmetic job was as a freelancer for MAC Cosmetics. I lived and breathed MAC and that’s when my brush collection really grew. I had (past tense) a pro discount and knew that what I used on clients was what I wanted to use on myself. They are still the eyeshadow brushes that get the most use. It might have something to do with owning duplicates of them – ahem. MAC’s eye brushes all start with the number 2 in their numbering system.

MAC 242 is my favorite since it does just about everything – lays down color, blends shadows, the tip can be used with liner, and is great with both soft colors and more intense ones.

MAC 239

MAC 239

MAC 272 sadly has been discontinued – I don’t know why though since the curve makes it great for the browbone area as well as the lid. It works the same as the 239 but it has the great angle to it.

MAC 217 was always my favorite blending brush but unfortunately the newer ones are bigger and not up to the original. I still love it though and use mine constantly. I’m sure I’ll wear them out at some point.

MAC 217

MAC 217

MAC 219 is my favorite pencil brush. Shockingly I only own 1 of these but I’d happily buy another.

MAC 219

MAC 219

The MAC brushes aren’t enough to keep me satisfied, sort of like Lay’s Potato Chips, I can’t stop at one.

BEAUTY JUNKEES MINI KABUKI SET are brushes that you just can’t beat. Fabulous for eyeshadows and even better for concealer. I pretty much use these interchangeably. At $14.97 this is affordable luxury.

Favorite eye brushes: Shu Uemera 10, Make Up For Ever 218, Anastasia A6, Cinema Secrets 12, Smashbox 4

5 other brushes that get a lot of use include the Shu Uemera 10, made of Kolinsky/Sable. It’s an extreme luxury at $95 but it’s worth it if you have the money.

Make Up For Ever 218 Medium Blender Brush ($25) is great with powder and cream shadows. I use it for blending as well as application.

Make Up For Ever 218

Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro A6 is my newest brush (reviewed here) and it’s quickly became one of my favorites. Of the three brushes I received from them I notice that I’m reaching for A6 the most. I love it as a firm blending brush.

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

Anastasia Beverly Hills A6

Smashbox 4 was one of my first highend cosmetic brush purchases. I don’t think you can find this anymore which is a shame. It was called a concealer brush but I love it as a cream eyeshadow brush. Why do brands discontinue their best products?

Eyebrow brushes are my newest obsession and my two favorites are from IT Cosmetics and Full Brow. IT Cosmetics Build a Brow Brush 12 is unique because of the bristles. They are of different lengths so they really reach into your brows to deposit color. It works especially well with a cream brow product. Full Brow is perfect for powders. It just seems to apply the powder more easily and evenly.

MAC CHEEK BRUSHES: There are two MAC Cheek brushes that I use all the time. For blush I like the large angled MAC 168. Some blush brushes are so big that I’d end up with blush all over so a smaller size is my jam. The other is MAC 165, I’ll use it for blush and it’s wonderful for highlighting and contour. Sadly it was an LE brush but the Tapered Face Brush 138 would do the same job though it’s bigger.

MAC 168 and 165

Even though I could go on forever I’ll stop with 3 of my favorite face brushes.

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder No. 8, Japonesque Kabuki, Wayne Goss 00

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder No. 8, Japonesque Kabuki, Wayne Goss 00

IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush is the softest, fluffiest brush. I think mine was part of a TSV (which is why you should always pay attention to the TSV!!). I love IT’s brushes and this one is a great example of what cruelty free brushes are all about.

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

Heavenly Luxe Wand Ball Powder brush

The Japonesque Kabuki is long discontinued. It’s similar to Nars Yachiyo Kabuki though it was less expensive. It’s not the softest brush but it’s wonderful still for cream blush. It picks up the color well and diffuses it so my cheeks are softly blushing. japonesqueWayne Goss 00 is now only available as a duo – one black, one white. I bought it in a preorder and was able to buy just the one. Go find a friend to split this duo with! This is what I expected of all my Wayne Goss brushes. This is perfection in the way it applies any powders as it just hugs my face and feels like a baby bunny. I’d use it for foundation if I didn’t have the Artis.

While I really haven’t given you many wallet friendly brushes I personally think that brushes are an investment and that they are often worth the extra money. I’m sure if I were first beginning I’d look at ELF, EcoTools, Beauty Junkees, and Real Techniques to shore up my collection. But my shares today are my best and brightest.  What brushes make you stand up and applaud?  —  Marcia

You need this brush! The BrushCraft Oval 6 by Artis

brushcraftIs it possible to be in love with a makeup brush? I think it is because I am head over heels for the BrushCraft Oval 6 by Artis ($24.50)! I was actually reluctant to even try it…I hadn’t jumped on the fiber brush bandwagon at all because they looked so different from what I knew, and the brushes were so expensive I was afraid to try them. Now I can’t believe what I have been missing – and the BrushCraft brushes are wonderfully affordable.                    sample

BrushCraft Oval 6
Marcia raved about the Artis Brushes and the brush I have to review today is made by Artis. BrushCraft by Artis ($18.50 – $24.50, exclusively at BrushCraft.com and AHALife. com) is a line that focuses on combining ergonomics with design, function, and performance. The brush is made with NuFibre, which is extremely soft yet firm because in my brush – the Oval 6 – there are 60,000 individual fibres.

BrushCraft Oval 6BrushCraft Oval 6I just can’t rave enough about the blending power of the Oval 6. The size is perfect for foundation, contouring, or blush application. It works like a dream with cream and liquid products and is great for powder products as well. It makes every product look completely natural and gives an amazing finish. The beauty of this brush is the versatility – ultimately, you make a smaller investment and have less ‘stuff’ to juggle. I love a multi-tasker and the Oval 6 is the best makeup brush multi-tasker I have ever tried.

Here are all the things that make the BrushCraft brushes unique:

·         Uniform Application – The NuFibre® fibre structure and tapered ends help apply product more consistently than animal hair. BrushCraft brushes on average have 3-10 times as many individual fibres as conventional brushes. For example, the Oval 6 has over 60,000 individual fibres each with a microscopically small and soft tip.

·         Superior Blending – Every single NuFibre® filament has a tapered tip that ends in a microscopically fine structure which is only a few microns in diameter. This ultra-fine tip blends on a microscopic level, creating patterns so small they are imperceptible with the naked eye and enhancing the makeup look.

·         Efficient Use Of Product – The uniform surface area of each NuFibre® helps pick up and lay down product, without holding on to it, with less product getting tapped along the fibre’s length and instead holding it between the fibre tips

·         Retains Shape Better – NuFibre® is made with a proprietary material that has shape memory, retaining its shape better than conventional animal hairs. If a NuFibre® brush ever gets bent from compression during storage, revive the shape by passing the brush tips through steam or holding the brush under hot running water for a few seconds, reshaping, and then allowing it to dry back to its original shape.

·         Versatility – NuFibre® keeps its shape more consistently, even though it has a smaller diameter than conventional hair. This helps the fibre perform well with powders, liquids or emollient-based products.

·         Helps Avoid Sensitivities – An estimated 10% of the population is allergic to animal hair. For those with sensitive skin, NuFibre® provides an excellent animal-free alternative to conventional animal hair makeup brushes.

·         Animal-Free Beauty® – All BrushCraft brushes are 100% Animal-Free. No animal hairs or by-products are ever used in making our products.

·         Nufibre® Delivers Consistently Quality With Every Brush – NuFibre® is made using high tech production techniques that produce completely consistent fibres, ensuring that the quality of every brush will be the same, no matter when you buy it.BrushCraft Oval 6

·         Chemically Resistant – Resists excess water, alcohol, acids, detergent and won’t degrade from brush cleaning formulas.

·         UV Resistant – NuFibre® is more resistant to UV than conventional animal hair makeup brushes and won’t degrade due to sun or light exposure.

·         Wears Longer – BrushCraft brushes were wear-tested along with two grades of conventional brushes [prestige and mass] by having a simulated skin surface move against the brush bundles for 48 hours continuously. BrushCraft brushes suffered no damage, but a significant percentage of brush hair in both conventional brush categories broke and split.

·         Very Gentle Feel During Application Of Makeup – BrushCraft brushes all have NuFibre that end in a micro soft tip that is so small it is measured in microns and can’t be seen with the naked eye. These tips provide a gentler feel than other brushes, so they don’t irritate the skin during application.

·         Comfortable Fit – Traditional handle shape is not only classic, but feels familiar in the hand and fingers.

·         Enhanced Performance – Each brush is sized and balanced to help provide a familiar feel to the brush, which helps enhance application and performance, while using fibre bundles that eliminate the need for a metal ferrule. The fibres are held in place by a proprietary method that allows the fibres to be positioned in new ways for makeup brushes. Most BrushCraft Brushes have the fibres aligned perpendicular to the handle and skin surface. This keeps the fibre tips continuously in contact with the skin during application and creates superior laydown and blending.

·         Assists In Ease Of Application – Design helps facilitate self-application of makeup. The fibre alignment and the tilted handle aid in simplifying application and blending to one’s own face. The BrushCraft Brushes have matte finish surface on the handle. This helps the fingers better grip the handle and allows more control over makeup application.

·         Durability – High tech resins, matte finishes, and durable monofilaments are used to help make this handmade brush more dependable and durable over its lifetime of use.

·         More Modern – The BrushCraft Collection is both modern and classic at the same time. The aesthetics of the smooth flowing surface are pleasing to the eye.

BrushCraft Oval 6There are four other brushes available in this line, including the  BrushCraft Linear 1, BrushCraft Circle 1R, and BrushCraft Oval 3. I am so in love with the BrushCraft Oval 6 that I absolutely want every single one of them!

I’ve only tried one of the brushes, the Elite Collection Smoke Finish Linear 1 Brush ($35). All I have to say is OH EM GEE. This is a freaking fantastic brush! The rubberized handle is substantial and is ergonomically perfect for your hand. The brush is firm but soft, so it creates a PERFECT smokey line with no drag and no painful friction. It lines upper and lower lids with ease. I also love it for my brows – I just use an eyeshadow that is one shade lighter than my brows, and the brush gives such a beautiful blend while also brushing brows upward. If that isn’t awesome enough, it’s a fantastic lip brush too.  This brush does everything but wash windows.

My favorite foundations for winter – Top 10 Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday has rolled around again and I’m excited to be sharing my favorites for foundation. I have more than on my list but just as important as my favorites are my two tools of choice so that took two spots. I purposely left out CC Creams even though I will use them in the winter but I wanted to stick with foundations for a change.

These are in no particular order. These are all sitting on my vanity right now! I may not be neat but I’m happy!!
1.
BOBBI BROWN INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM FOUNDATION is pretty new to me and pretty impressive too. It has SPF 40 in it and is available in 18 shades plus it’s very forgiving. I’ve been wanting a serum foundation and the one I bought from Armani a few years ago never felt right. The makeup artist I went to loves this foundation and gave me a sample. That brought me back to buy it. It’s very lightweight and you wouldn’t expect it to hide imperfections but it does. It feels great on my skin too.
2.
TOO FACED BORN THIS WAY ABSOLUTE PERFECTION FOUNDATION just moved into my house last week. I keep reading about it and Sephora F&F finally put me over the edge. I’ve worn it twice which really isn’t enough to put it on a list but both times I was quite happy with the way it looked and lasted. This $38 foundation comes in 18 shades and is oil-free. I love that it has ingredients to help with hydration (coconut water and hyaluronic acid are two).
3.
IT COSMETICS O2 O2 ULTRA REPAIR LIQUID OXYGEN FOUNDATION ($38) was my foundation favorite of the year for 2014 and remains a favorite 11 months later. I’m a huge fan of IT Cosmetics but with all brands some products are better than others. This is a ‘better than others’ foundation. Fair matches me perfectly but it only is available in 5 shades which might be a problem for some. One of the biggest reasons to love IT is their anti-aging ingredients (Peptides, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Niacin, Hyaluronic Acid and Grape Seed Oil plus Vitamins A, C, & E). This is actually a serum foundation which I didn’t realize until I was typing this up!!
4.
SENNA LASTING ILLUSION FOUNDATION* has been one that I’ve counted on for an airbrushed finish for almost two years. This is a fuller coverage than most of the others I own and there are many days and occasions that I crave that coverage. It’s a matte satin that reflects light away from imperfections. Senna isn’t talked about enough but in my opinion people are missing out on this great Hollywood indie brand. ($48, 7 shades)
5.
MALLY BEAUTY EFFORTLESS AIRBRUSH PERFECT SKIN MOUSSE is another foundation that people need to know about. One of the problems with Mally Beauty is that it’s hard to find – all the great places that carry the line only carry parts of Mally. This is only sold at Mally’s website and it’s worth it to shop there. The coverage with this mousse is perfection. I need so little but I could build it up if necessary. Plus it comes with a fabulous foundation brush that feels wonderful and works like a dream ($45*).
6.
GIORGIO ARMANI LUMINOUS SILK FOUNDATION – there are no words for this foundation. I’ve gone through 3 bottles since I started using it and I’m sure to go through more. It’s available in 23 shades and it’s worth every penny of the $62 cost to me. It’s weightless and oil-free and the coverage is like silk.
7.
RIMMEL LONDON LASTING FINISH FOUNDATION is the opposite in cost from Armani and not similar to it in finish, but it’s the best drugstore foundation I’ve ever bought. The problem with drugstores is being unable to test colors but I got lucky with O91 Light Ivory. At first I noticed a perfumey fragrance but once applied I noticed it for about 15 seconds and never again. If you are looking for great coverage to last through the day and you have $6.99 laying around, this is what to spend it on.
8.
GERI G INNOCENT FOUNDATION isn’t known at all. I just reviewed it again along with their Transceutical Canvas so I hope that this comes more to the forefront. It’s a medium coverage that can be built up. On the days I’m looking a little worse for the wear, I turn to this to make my skin look its best. The downside is that it only comes in 4 shades and the swatches on the website aren’t really helpful. ($38)
9.
BEAUTY BLENDER SPONGE is amazing. Don’t accept imitations. I don’t care that it’s $20 while others are much less, this is the one that works. It now comes in many colors like the new royal purple. The black one is called the Pro one but I don’t think it’s any different than my pink ones. Trust me when I tell you that this could change your makeup application.
10.
ARTIS OVAL 10 ELITE BRUSH* has become holy grail to me. It changes your paradigm about what a foundation brush is and you won’t want to look back. The softness, the bristles (2500 of them!), the ergonomics, and the luxuriousness of this $72 brush make it worth the high cost. If was told I could just take a few items out of my house this would be high up on the list. It’s that precious. Review here.

What could possibly be softer than a baby bunny’s ears? What could be more luxurious than a yacht taking you to an island vacation? What could be more exciting to have in your brush collection than ARTIS MAKEUP BRUSHES? Artis is a new brand to most of us but it’s about to take the cosmetic world by storm.

Artis Makeup Brushes are mostly oval with mirrored backs. They have CosmeFibre® fibers made of soft animal-free fibers. They are densely packed with the end of each fiber tapered to a microscopic tip that can’t be seen individually by the human eye. I was given the opportunity to try out ARTIS OVAL 10 BRUSH to my delight. This brush has over 250,000 bristles!

The Oval 10 brush itself is quite large (1 3/4″W, 1 1/4″ H, 8″ L) and is meant for powder but it does so much more. My friend Helen, from Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog, taught me to use this for foundation/BB-CC Cream application and I was thrilled to learn this method. It marries the best of two worlds with its softness and refined blending application. It is also supposed to be an excellent tool for smoothing on self tanners because of the coverage it gives.

The curved handles are unusual at first sight but once you put this perfectly balanced brush in your hand, you understand the beauty of the ergonomics. The brush has a slight flexibility to it making it glide over the planes of your face with ease. And did I mention how soft this is??

There are 19 brushes (10 from Artis brushes and 9 from Fluenta) that have been created by one of the makeup industry’s innovators and a former MAC Cosmetics Senior Executive, Matthew Waitesmith. He focused on the challenges of makeup “self-application” and delivering superior cosmetic performance, while taking inspiration from how he would draw a human face.

Brushes range in price from $32 to $72 with several sets that are sold at Artisbrush.com, Net A Porter, and now QVC has a set too. Oval 10 is the $72 brush and once you see it and feel it you’ll know it’s worth that kind of money. I am so excited about this brush that I bought the QVC set and am waiting for it. For $89.00 I’ll be the owner of Liner 1, Oval 3, Oval 6, cleaning foam and a cleaning pad. I’m still lusting after Circle 1R after watching a demonstration and I’m sure that will be on its way to me too.
