What is inside Lisa’s vintage purse?

I am all about purses, but not really the latest…although I definitely appreciate a Chanel or a Prada when I see one! My style is more boho or vintage, and when I find a gorgeous vintage purse I just about turn inside out. I love my stunning vintage purse that was actually a gift to me from my most beloved friend, who obviously understands my preferences because it is perfect for me.

It may not have a label, but I love it!

Now, I am a realist and I know I am a major procrastinator (just ask my poor, ever-patient blogging partner Marcia), so I just keep this purse filled with the perfect products at all times. That way, when I am running late for a fancy evening or event – and I am ALWAYS running late – I can just grab this and go, knowing that I have everything I need.

My favorite dressy purse contains a few beautiful and essential items that I was sent last year from Mont Bleu, an online site that features Swarovski jewelry and crystal nail files. This particular makeup mirror is still available – you can find it right HERE.

I always have a nail file with me and I love this crystal file from Mont Bleu.

My Senna Blush & Bronze Duo in Beached Peach is always perfect for touch ups…have you ever noticed that nothing perks up your look quicker than a bit of blush??  I also love my little Crown Brush C109 Mini Bronzer Brush. Exactly what is needed for a purse.

Luck favors the prepared with the Minimergency Kit. It’s from the ‘Good Luck Series’ and the little four-leaf clover never fails to make me feel lucky. This little kit holds 16 different items that are truly essentials and it’s only 3.5″ x 2″ x 2″ so it fits into the palm of your hand. I am astounded at what fits into this mini life saver: hairspray; dental floss, band aids, and Blistex; Advil; a mini sewing kit that also includes a set of earring backs and clear elastics; and double-sided tape, breath mint drops; an emery board; a tampon; and clear nail polish. Just think of how many times you wished you had one of those items and couldn’t find one anywhere. Also included are three foil packs: nail polish remover, stain remover, and a deodorant towelette.

I use a wonderful little box that came with some Nudestix items to house my lippies. I always have a lip balm and this one is Savannah Bee Beautiful Sugar Lip Balm. My lipstick is the gorgeous Julie Hewett Oona Noir, and I love it with my Alison Raffaele Lip Gloss in Luscious, a shimmery gold, over top. I also carry my Face Stockholm Lip Brush that is the perfect size.Vintage purse lippies

The last items I throw into my purse before heading out the door include my phone, a Samsung Galaxy. I know people love their iPhones, but I am an Android girl all the way.

They have mirrored, gradient lenses and actually came with a hard case and cleaning cloth too. They are the most expensive sunglasses I have ever owned, but worth every single penny. They are still available on ShopBop in blue and in purple.

Alison Raffaele haul

A few weeks ago I decided my stash needed a whole lot more Alison Raffaele products, so I went on a huge binge. Here’s what I got, and my thoughts about each after spending some time with them:

I bought two of the gel blushes called Inner Glow blush ($25). I always wear a gel blush with loose powder over, then a pressed powder blush on top of that.  If I don’t, my blush will disappear within a few hours.  I thought maybe the Inner Glow blushes would make a great base blush for me.

The first one I picked was Witty. It’s described as “sheer ripe peach”, but it shows up more berry colored on my NW23 skin.I find this to be a nice player in the gel blush category.  Due to the size of the stick, it’s not necessary to use a separate brush, you can apply it right to your face.  You just need to wipe it down afterward because if you are applying over foundation, the foundation will transfer to the blush stick.  It does apply pretty wet at first, and takes a minute or two to dry down.  Then, the effect is that great ‘glow from within’ look that is the hallmark of gel blushes.  This does have a slight fruity fragrance.

The other one I bought was Playful.

I like this one on me better than Witty.  It’s described as a ‘sheer candy-apple red’, and on me it looks like a very deep pink.  I like how it goes on  sheer, and since it’s wet you can blend it or apply more to deepen the color.  If you are into gel blushes, this is one to check out.

I am usually not a fan of tinted moisturizers.  They just don’t offer enough coverage or lasting power for me to feel very comfortable in them.  I found that the Alison Raffaele Tinted Moisturizer ($35)  in Medium was different from most – it has more coverage and a thicker consistency.

I got it in medium, and when I swatched it I thought, “Uh oh, waaay too dark for me.”  But surprisingly, it somehow lightened when I applied it, so it was actually a good match for me.

I like this tinted moisturizer very much. It has coverage in between a typical tinted moisturizer and a liquid foundation, which was just the perfect thing for me.  I found the color stayed true and it lasted all day.  Very nice!

The True Concealer($23) is a standard wand-type concealer.

It has a thin consistency, but is nicely pigmented so you don’t need a ton of product to cover dark circles. It is supposed to nourish the skin as well as cover imperfections.  I chose #3, which is the color for those with skin shades similar to Jennifer Aniston or Sarah Jessica Parker.  You can see the shade in the swatch below, it is underneath the swatch of the tinted moisturizer. While it was nicely pigmented, my super dark circles really need something a little more heavyweight.  For people with typical discoloration, this is a great option.  I did find that it settled into my fine lines a bit at first, but I was putting too much on.  Once I figured out the correct amount it was no longer a problem.

Next, I got two of the Soft Glosses ($22.50) – Chic, a sheer red, and Luscious, an opalescent shimmer.

I love these.  They both go on VERY sheer, they are more for applying over lipstick or lip pencil than for wearing alone unless your lips are very pigmented to begin with. What I love about these glosses is the FEEL of them – they feel simply amazing.  Smooth, slick, but not the least bit sticky.  They make my dryer lipsticks an absolute pleasure to wear, while also enhancing the color.

I also bought two of the Soft Shadow Eyeshadows ($19.50).

Blossom is a peachy-pink color, more peach than pink.  It’s matte, so it’s a little bit chalky in texture.  It reminds me of the original matte formula by MAC, not the silkier Matte2 formula.  The color is very pretty, it really does brighten your eyes.

I also got Taupe, which is another matte shadow, this one in a medium brown.

On me, this is truly a neutral brown – no red, no yellow, no gray or purple undertones.  It’s  a fabulous neutral. Here I have swatched them with colors I found to be somewhat similar from my MAC collection.  First is MAC Tweet Me, next is AR Blossom, next is AR Taupe, and last is MAC Saddle.

I did my eyes with Blossom on the lid and brow, and Taupe in the crease.  Taupe would also make for great lid color.

And here’s my entire Alison Raffaele haul face of the day.
