Save yourself from dry indoor heat with Acuvue Oasys and Neova Breakout Control

I am loving the gorgeous autumn colors, but this dry indoor heat is causing me all sorts of problems.  I am a contact lens wearer, and my eyes get horribly dry when the heat is turned on.  Plus all that dry heat changes my skin and I end up with breakouts.  I’ve always thought having wrinkles AND blemishes was the definition of a little slice of hell.

I’ve been counting on two things that were sent to the BIZ to help me through this transition into the cold weather outside and the dry heat inside:  Acuvue Oasys Contact Lenses and Neova Breakout Control Swabs ($26).

Acuvue Oasys Contact Lenses

Acuvue Oasys Contact Lenses

My savior from dry eyes!

My savior from dry eyes!

Dry, itchy eyes make me completely miserable.  I am always surprised when cold weather rolls around and I suddenly find myself reaching for eye drops every few hours just keep my eyes feeling somewhat comfortable.  What has helped me tremendously is switching my contact lenses to ACUVUE® OASYS® Brand Contact Lenses (  The HYDRACLEAR® technology embeds a moisture-rich wetting agent into the contact lens.  That means the lens is super hydrated, and a moisture-rich lens keeps my eyes moist and comfortable, even with drying indoor heat.

Neova Breakout Control Swabs

Neova Breakout Control Swabs

Neova Breakout Control Swabs

Neova Breakout Control Swabs

Talk about convenient…the Neova Breakout Control Swabs are really awesome for treating blemishes.  Using fingers to apply blemish medication is not a good thing – oils from fingertips can actually transmit more bacteria and exacerbate the problem.  These cotton swabs are filled with 2% salicylic acid that clears out pores and neutralizes bacteria, plus allantoin and aloe to soften and calm skin.  Break the swab at the red line and the blemish-fighting solution saturates the cotton swab tip on the other end.  Just dab the saturated swab on your blemish and it’s gone before you know it.

If you have issues with dry indoor heat, I highly recommend Acuvue Oasys Contact Lenses to keep your eyes moist and comfy, and Neova Breakout Control Swabs to get rid of pesky blemishes.  Pick them up and enjoy the change of seasons in total comfort!  – Lisa

And to make sure skin really looks flawless, dab on a little Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment ($6.49) beforehand. This is a wonderfully gentle formula that won’t irritate sensitive skin.

RoC Instant Facial Smoother

The third step is to apply primer to smooth out fine lines and brighten that complexion. A great choice is the RoC Instant Facial Smoother ($22.99). Acne is associated with teens and slightly older but it really goes beyond those years. I know that I suddenly had an attack of acne after I turned 40 and I was aghast. I’d never had such severe skin problems before so to suddenly have it at that age made me slightly crazy. Knowing that this giveaway could work for a lot of our readers or for one of their children we felt we should give you the chance to win this great prize.

DR. BAXT COSMEDICAL ACNE KIT was created by Dr. Rebecca Bast a New York/New Jersey board certified dermatologist and assistant professor of clinical dermatology at the New York University School of Medicine.

CoralActives: affordable acne products that work

I am a total nut for acne lines these days. No, it’s not because I am a teenager…although I do kiss anyone who cards me…ironically, as a teen I had very few skin issues. It’s because of those horrible hormonal changes and the side effects that come with them, which include acne.

Zits AND wrinkles? I am PISSED.

Zits AND wrinkles? I am PISSED.

Skin care isn’t a joke – if our makeup is going to look good, our skin needs to look good. There are tons of acne systems out there, and one I have tried and loved recently is CoralActives. This is great stuff, and it’s extremely affordable. CoralActives uses a higher percentage of benzoyl peroxide to kill the bacteria that causes acne, as well as Sea Whip Coral Extract to soothe and control the side effects of acne like inflammation and redness.

more Sea Whip Coral

What is Sea Whip Coral and why is it good for my face??

My skin loves benzoyl peroxide so high concentrations of that are a big draw for me. But what in the world is Sea Whip Coral Extract?

Sea Whip Coral Extract is a soft coral from the Caribbean. It’s a natural anti-inflammatory extract that is wonderful for the skin and is environmentally friendly.

Sea Whip Coral

Makes me think of Sponge Bob…

CoralActives says, “Clinical studies have shown that Sea Whip Extract has both anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties when topically applied to the skin. Sea Whip has been found to inhibit 90% of the inflammatory enzyme, phospholipase.  This enzyme is the foundation of the skin’s inflammation response that leads to signs of redness and discomfort. Sea Whip Extract has also been shown to assist the skin to repair itself. It is a natural solution for sensitive and irritated skin.”

Another important point – Sea Whip Coral Extract is a renewable resource.

“Colonies of Sea Whip Coral have been researched by independent scientists since before 1990, and consistently monitored since 1996. Their studies, as well as the records of the exclusive harvester show that the coral extract has been collected in a sustainable manner that has consistently resulted in complete re-growth.”

Complete Acne Therapy System

A great buy that will give you the basics you need is the CoralActives Cleanser and Serum Combo Kit ($29.95). Here’s what I found with prices for all products when purchased individually:

First up is the Retinal Exfoliating Cleanser ($18.95)

Retinol Exfoliating Cleanser

If you want good skin that acne-free, you start here, with cleansing. Cleansing should be done every night, and if your skin is prone to acne, another cleansing in the morning is usually a great idea. You want to remove makeup, oil, and bacteria, all things that clog pores, but you don’t want to over cleanse and further irritate the skin. So it’s important to have a gentle cleanser that also really works.

This cleanser is full of tiny beads that contain Retinol. As you cleanse your skin, the beads burst and the Retinol, a pure form of Vitamin A, heals the skin as it’s cleansed. Retinol promotes collagen production, reduces wrinkles, cleans out pores, and evens out skin texture. Add in the Sea Whip Coral Extract to heal and reduce inflammation and redness and it’s a winning combination.

When I use this, I get my face wet, then put some Retinol Exfoliating Cleanser into my hands. I rub them together, which pops those tiny beads, then cleanse and rinse. Some of the tiny beads don’t pop until I am actually cleansing, which acts as a gentle exfoliant. It’s terrific.

Next comes the Penetrating Acne Serum Gel ($22.95).

Penetrating Acne Serum Gel

CoralActives says the Penetrating Acne Serum Gel has basically four ingredients:

  1. 6% Benzoyl Peroxide; to kill bacteria
  2. Sea Whip Extract; to help your inflamed skin.
  3. Humectants; to attract water from the atmosphere onto your skin
  4. Emollients; to retain the moisture on your skin

This serum soaks in quickly and is extremely effective – it gets rid of acne without drying out your skin. I use this on acne-prone areas in the evening and it works.

Finally, the third product that will finish your skin care routine is the Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin ($12.95).

Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin

The CoralActives Moisturizer for Acne-Prone Skin continues the fight against acne while also moisturizing your skin.  It has Tea Tree Oil to fight bacteria and infection, Licorice Extract to fight excessive oil production, Copaifera Officinalis Resin, Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, and Euterpe Oleracea Pulp Oil as anti-oxidants, Olive Leaf Extract as an anti-inflammatory, and Glucosamine HCL – Algae Extract – Yeast Extract – Urea as natural exfoliants.

moisturizer swatched

It’s a light, elegant moisturizer that feels terrific on the skin. It works for even the most sensitive yet broken out skin, soothing irritation and providing moisture without instigating breakouts. It’s marvelous.

And a final product – the Acne Cleansing Bar ($7.95).

Acne Cleansing Bar gives you a fighting chance against bacne

Acne isn’t limited to your face – chest and back acne (aka ‘bacne’) is horrible! I love that CoralActives has an answer to that.  The Acne Cleansing Bar is dynamite. It really knocks out body acne without over drying and stripping the skin.  Ingredients include 10% benzoyl peroxide to kill acne-causing bacteria, coconut oil to support healing, Vitamin A to reduce cell damage, Vitamin E as an antioxidant, and shea butter to moisturize and leave skin super soft.

So, if like me, you are ticked because you are plagued with both acne and wrinkles, check out CoralActives. Your acne won’t thank you, but your skin will.  – Lisa

Treating acne for real with Relogy

If you are looking for a unique, cutting-edge solution to acne, you will want to consider RelogyRelogy is an excellent solution for oily, breakout-prone skin.  It is free of harsh, skin-irritating ingredients.  Plus, Relogy has a simple regimen with only a few steps, it’s easy to use and actually pretty fun!  What makes it fun?  One word:  FOAM.

relogy logo

I know I am easily amused, but acne sucks, so if my skin care products are enjoyable I really appreciate it.  Plus I love this – they have a ‘Guaranteed Happiness’ policy.  You love your products after 60 days, or your money back.  Other reasons to love this line?  It’s cruelty free, vegan, and plant-based.

Relogy isn’t about flashy marketing.  It’s about simple, easy to use and effective natural products.  My skin is finicky, it’s oily one day and dry the next.  I have hormonal acne, and it’s difficult to find something that can handle the daily differences in my skin and the hormone issues without nasty side effects like over-drying the skin.  I really, really like what Relogy (60 day supply is $49.95) did for me, and it’s definitely something I highly recommend to anyone with acne issues.  Here’s the scoop:

step one

Step One

The first product is called Step 1 Dual Action Treatment Foam.  This a rinse-free (and fun!) cleaning foam.  You can remove most makeup with this – and honestly, if this doesn’t remove your makeup then you are probably using products that aren’t right for acne-prone skin.  To cleanse off makeup, use the rinse method: wet your skin, cleanse with the foam, and rinse.  Follow that with some foam on acne-prone areas, and don’t rinse it off.  The foam kills bacteria that causes blemishes and truly leaves your skin super soft and moisturized.  It’s awesome for your chest and back, too.  It’s full of effective natural ingredients that clear blemishes, heal skin, and soothe inflammation.

love the packaging

It has a great dispenser that pumps out this really cool foam.  You don’t need a full pump – that’s way too much product.  I would say about 1/4 of a pump is perfect for your cleansing your face then rinsing.  You need even less of that for the non-rinse application (smoothing foam on your acne-prone areas, for me on either side of my chin and around my nose).

foamy goodness

foamy goodness

To prevent acne you only need to use it once a day. If you are treating a current case of acne, use it twice a day until you are  acne-free.  The foam has salicylic acid which naturally exfoliates the skin.  Relogy recommends no other sort of exfoliation, as too much can actually irritate acne-prone skin and cause more problems than it cures.  Basically, Relogy says to get great skin you need to be kind to it!

step two

Step Two

The second step is the Skin Balancing Lotion with Coconut Milk.  The name sounds pretty rich for an anti-acne line, but it’s actually a very light lotion that sinks in quickly.  It leaves skin soft and moisturized, and doesn’t clog pores.

more great packaging

The lotion is 100% natural.  The packaging is perfect.  I love the dispenser, it keeps the lotion protected from oxygen so it keeps the integrity of the ingredients.  You don’t need much, a little bit goes a long way and it feels terrific on.

beautiful creamy white lotion

And then there is the ‘secret weapon’ – the Relogy Targeted Acne Spot Treatment.

Relogy Targeted Acne Spot Treatment

Relogy Targeted Acne Spot Treatment

Really, the Targeted Acne Spot Treatment is step 1.5.  Use this after the foam and before the lotion.  Just apply it directly to any blemishes.  I also use this by itself as a spot treatment and love the results.  It’s extremely effective and super gentle.

One more quick bit of advice:  don’t pick at those blemishes!!  Relogy recommends placing a warm, damp washcloth over blemishes first, then squeezing, pushing very gently outward.  If you squeeze too hard you will push the infection even deeper into your skin, creating more problems.  After, put some foam on and let it dry, then I also put a little Targeted Acne Spot Treatment on to finish up.

Relogy is a lovely, effective cruelty-free line.  While they say it can take up to 8 weeks to garner the full results, I had impressive results within one week.  Relogy is without question an excellent line for those of us still fighting acne!  – Lisa

Get clean skin from mud! Adovia Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask and Mud Soap

Adovia Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask and Mud Soap

There is a terrific deal on my favorite Adovia products right now at Cleopatra’s Choice.  You get a free full size Adovia Mud Soap when you purchase the Adovia Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask (which is usually $36, but right now the mask is only$27.95).  The free soap is a $9 value.  I previously wrote about the Mud Soap HERE, now I would love to tell you about the Adovia Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask.

Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask – muddy goodness

I use this mask in two ways:

  1.  Prevention:  It’s a great weekly treatment.  It keeps my skin clear and bright, and it helps make my nose less ‘shiny’ in general.  Because it’s a mud mask, it pulls out the bad oils and dirt, but it’s not drying.  It has Vitamin C and Aloe Vera as ingredients, so it gets rid of the bad stuff without removing essential moisture.  If you have very oily skin, this is a fabulous treatment that is gentle enough to use even twice a week.  It does make pores look smaller and helps to keep the blackheads away.
  2. Emergency 911:  This mask is also a fantastic spot treatment.  With my wonky hormones (someone up there has a HUGE sense of humor about women in their 40’s) my skin  just goes postal sometimes for no apparent reason.  I want to avoid being that weird chick with wrinkles AND zits, so when I feel something cropping up I put a thin layer of this mask over the area and then go to bed.  When I wake up in the morning, the problem is almost always averted.  The Aloe Vera and chamomile act as an anti-inflammatory, so even sore red areas are calmed and soothed.

As a regular face mask, put on a nice, thick layer after washing your face, then leave it on for 20-30 minutes.  After it dries, gently wipe it off with a warm washcloth, then splash your face with cold water to close those pores back up.   It doesn’t burn like some mud masks do, and it wipes off easily.  I’ve had mud masks that adhered so tenaciously I had to practically carve it off, which just isn’t good for delicate tissue and only irritates your skin.

Dead Sea Mud Soap

But if you want the best possible results, I recommend first washing with the Mud Soap then using a facial exfoliator.  I do those two things in the shower, then I apply the mask after showering when my pores are open and more receptive to all the good ingredients in the mask.

One more great thing worth noting about this mask is that it comes in a squeeze tube.  I have had so many mud masks in jars that dried out before I could use it all up.  The packaging for the Adovia Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask is just great, making application easier (and less messy!) and it really does increase the life of the product.   Plus it’s more sanitary.  Gotta love it.

Getting a free Mud Soap with your Adovia Purifying Dead Sea Mud Mask at Cleopatra’s Choice is a great deal, I highly recommend venturing to the site and taking advantage of it!  – Lisa

Blemish-free summer skin with Lush

I adore summer.  I look forward to gardening, riding my bike, and taking long hikes – but I don’t look forward to the skin issues that come with summer perspiration.  Lush has several products that help me keep my skin blemish-free even in the hottest weather.

Lush Herbalism

Lush Herbalism ($11.50 for 3.5 oz) is an exfoliant that ‘decongests’ pores.  If you have very oily, blemish-prone skin it’s like a miracle.  I absolutely love this for my back, which reacts horribly to any sort of sweating that I can’t shower off immediately.

Just look at that gorgeousness!!

You take a small bit of this and dampen it, kind of working it into a paste.  Then you apply it to your skin in circular motions, and then rinse.  I have this in my shower because it’s kind of messy, which works perfectly.  A jar is good for up to 3 months.

The ingredients that attack those blemishes include rosemary, nettle, and chamomile.  The exfoliating ingredients are ground rice bran and ground almonds, plus there’s kaolin (China clay) to clean the pores.  It has a very odd scent.  It smells like…vinegar, I guess.  If you don’t mind smelling like a salad for a few minutes, you will be just fine because the scent doesn’t linger.  I really like this, it’s a wonderful exfoliant especially if you want to get rid of the dreaded ‘bacne’.

Lush Fresh Farmacy

And for those days when I don’t want so much exfoliation, there’s Fresh Farmacy ($9.75).  This beautiful bar is especially terrific for those with more sensitive skin.

Looks good enough to eat!

This is such a gorgeous bar I had to take several pictures.  The bar has calamine in it, the same stuff that you use to soothe your skin from bug bites or irritations.  It also has chamomile, rose, lavender, and tea tree oil.  It gives a wonderful lather and it’s very gentle.

Isn’t it beautiful??  It’s so nice for combination skin that isn’t overly oily.  It also seems to brighten the skin and eliminate redness.  It smells slightly of peppermint, nothing very strong or overpowering.  I keep this in my shower too, although on a dish that’s away from the water so it doesn’t melt.  I use it every morning when I shower and it does a great job of cleaning my face and keeping the blemishes away.

Lush Grease Lightning

My final summer skin savior is Grease Lightning ($12.95).  Sometimes, despite all my efforts a blemish will appear.  I break out the Grease Lightning, which is a tea tree oil blemish treatment.  It’s actually a combination of thyme, tea tree oil, and rosemary, and it does a great job of zapping zits.  I also use this as a mattify my t-zone when it’s super hot out.  It smells slightly medicinal, like most tea tree oil products do, but it does dissipate quickly.

These three products are my ‘holy trinity’ for summer blemishes.  Try them out to banish your blemishes and have great summer skin!  – Lisa
