Biggest personal influences in 2012

soft waves

Soft waves?  No problem!

Verge One – I would say that two lines dramatically changed my daily appearance in 2012.  The first is Verge One.  Their ‘texture wands’ have completely changed the way I wear my hair.  Now pretty much every day I am curly or wavy, and I love it.  The texture wands are truly fabulous finds for which I am extremely grateful!

More lashes = love!

More lashes = love!

Novalash – the second line that dramatically changed my daily appearance in 2012 is Novalash.  I had what I thought were nicely dramatic eyelashes thanks to Latisse…and then I found Novalash.  WOW.  My lashes are huge and beautiful and easy to care for every single day.  This is a ‘get down on my knees and say THANK YOU‘ find!!

Most fun

Everything is better on a stick!

blue

Who knew blue hair could be so fun?

HairUWear – another surprising super fun discovery for me this year were hair extensions.  I adore the ones I have tried from HairUWear, whether they are lively and funky bright colors or seriously hair-enhancing extensions.  Absolute enjoyment that reminded me I need to step outside my comfort zone to make new discoveries.

My top product picks

Skin Chemists Wrinkle Killer

Skin Chemists Wrinkle Killer

Skin Chemists Wrinkle Killer – the snake serum is far more than a marketing ploy. This stuff works. If you want less wrinkles in 2013, get yourself some Wrinkle Killer.

If 2013 is even close to as good as 2012 was, then we have a LOT to look forward to.  2012 was chock full of great discoveries, wonderful ‘old faithfuls’, tons of joy and nothing to complain about.  Life is good!  – Lisa

Beauty Spotlight Team takes you to a Desert Island

Packed and ready for the desert island

Welcome to the first edition of Beauty Spotlight Team On A Desert Island. The Beauty Spotlight Team has shown you our makeup bags and also a “mystery” post about things you’d never seen that we like. Now we’re deserting each of the bloggers on a “desert island” to see their interpretation of this challenge. The rules are that we can bring a bag holding only twelve items. We aren’t bringing sunscreen or lip balm because our desert island will have a stash of that. Civilization rules when it comes to beauty bloggers. We hope you will be looking forward to our future posts.

You’d think that think that this would be an easy assignment. After all finding twelve items that you love isn’t hard at all. Until you try to put it together that is. I had several dilemmas. First do I want to look glamorous? I’m not sure who I’m looking glamorous for though. Second do I need to just pamper my skin so that when the rescue ship comes to get me I won’t look like Tom Hanks or his basketball. Third this reminds me of the book “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”. As soon as you pick one item you need more to go with it. Pick an eyeliner and you need a brush or sharpener. Pick eyeshadow or powder products and you need tools. The list could go on and you’d still want a cookie. I’ve decided to bend the rules a tiny bit. Some of these items are my Holy Grails and some are things I like a lot but could switch if needed. But they all are items I’d enjoy on my stay on the desert island.

12 items for my adventure

Here are the 12 in no particular order:

1. Anastasia’s Want You to Want Me Eye Shadow Palette– this is my cheat. This amazing set is all in one box though so I’m counting it as one even though in reality there are 4 items in it. There’s a beautiful e/s palette with 9 shades in the brown and purple families, a small liquid eyeliner in black, a mini clear brow gel and a small two sided brush. Plus the box has a nice size mirror so that crosses that off my list. This will be reviewed in full soon but believe me it’s “desert island” worthy.

Anastasia Want You to Want Me

Anastasia Want You to Want Me open

2. 3Lab Perfect BB Cream – this was one of my choices in the recent Makeup Wars. The reason I picked this particular BB cream is that the tube is easier to travel with than the Skin79 cylinder and I don’t notice any lingering fragrance. I figured that a BB cream is everything I need for my skin during the day and it’s light enough that it won’t be melting off in the sun.

3. Mally Evercolor Poreless Face Defender – which is a Holy Grail item for me. I use this almost every day (on the other days I’ll use powder especially IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores). The problem with the Mally is “if you give a mouse a cookie”…

Mally Poreless Face Defender

Mally Performance Sponge (just 1)

4. then you need the applicator. So number 4 is the Mally Ultimate Performance Sponge applicator which is perfect for the Pore Defender.

5. MAC 217 brush is next. I have a ton of brushes but this is the most versatile and reliable for the way I apply eyeshadow.

MAC 217 is on the right

6. Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Waterproof Concealer, another HG item. It’s perfect for my undereye area and I rely on this to hide the dark circles daily.

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Waterproof Concealer in Fair

7. Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Tint in Sweet for my lip product. I love the color and the feel plus it winds up so I don’t need to worry about sharpening this lip crayon.

8. Tweezerman Pro Curl Eyelash Curler is going with me but I don’t have room for mascara. I love the eyelash curler and if I at least curl my lashes it’s not too bad plus I’d probably cheat and use the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel on my lashes instead since my eyebrows aren’t great.

Tweezerman Pro Curl Lash Curler

9.  Youngblood Luminous Cream blush in Taffeta which is very close to being a Holy Grail blush. I wear this more than any other blush I own. The color works well too with my Tarte Lipsurgence and the Anastasia eyeshadow colors.

10. Algenist Eye Renewal Balm- this is my current favorite. I’m a slut when it comes to eye creams and this eye balm is one of my favorite “customers”.

Algenist Eye Renewal Balm

11. Tweezerman tweezers– if I didn’t take this I’d look like Santa Claus when I was picked up. I’d have a beard! My Tweezerman tweezers are absolute HG material.

Cynthia Rowley tweezers for Tweezerman

12.  Another cheat is coming – my Adventuress Skin Care travel set. I just reviewed this and while I was debating what my 12th item would be I realized that this kit is perfect – cleanser, SPF that is good for my face, skin purifier and a moisturizer I’d use at night especially.

Adventuress Intro Offer Collection

This sounds like a lot but think of everything I left out: shampoo, conditioner, a comb or brush, eye makeup remover, body lotion, tooth brush and toothpaste etc. I just hope I have a Twistband in my hair when I’m taken away to the island since that will at least keep my hair a little tidy. I wonder if the mouse will be a stowaway in my bag! Are any of these on your Desert Island list? — Marcia

3Lab BB Cream – the be all and end all of BB creams

Welcome to Beauty Info Zone’s Side by Side review of 3Lab PerfectBB Cream. To put it simply both Marcia and Lisa are in love! You’ll be getting both of our reviews – Marcia who has owned and reviewed quite a few BB creams and Lisa who, up to now, was almost a virgin when it came to this category.

Here’s some info directly from 3Lab: Treats fine lines and wrinkles using anti-oxidants, vitamins and botanicals including Phytocell Tec, Nano Clair GY™ and ?-white to improve and even skin tone, brightens the skin, alleviate irritation and protect the skin from harmful UV rays and oxidative stress.
.

Marcia’s Side:

As our introduction told you I’ve been using BB creams for quite a while. They are my summer savior. Since I don’t tan at all – faux or otherwise – I am quite pale and need something to liven my complexion up. But in the summer I’m a walking furnace so it’s difficult to wear foundation. That’s where BB Creams have changed my life. I get varying amounts of color depending on the product and varying amounts of coverage.

If I could have only one BB Cream it would be 3Lab Perfect BB Cream. It is as close to perfect as any I’ve tried. This is a brightening formula with SPF 40/PA+++. 3Lab’s BB Cream not only brightens but it moisturizes and works as my skincare. If you know skincare then you know that 3Lab is one of the very top brands on the market with its incredible ingredients. The BB Cream contains those ingredients making you not only look good but improving your skin’s quality.

The formula of this BB Cream is gel like. It glides on giving me beautiful coverage. I like that it’s all I need for the day since it has everything in it. It has a sweet light orange fragrance that I notice at first but it dissipates quickly. I wouldn’t mind if it lasted since I love how it smells.  The packaging is so much fun because it comes with a small roller that you can use to smooth the product on with. I apply the BB cream in a few little dabs on my face and using the roller as shown below, smooth it out. It’s not necessary but it’s fun! This is the almost perfect BB Cream. The price takes it out of the realm of a lot of consumers ($95) but it’s worth it to me and I will purchase this when I run out.

Lisa’s Side:

Up until now I haven’t been that interested in BB creams.  I like full coverage, so a BB cream sounded like a glorified tinted moisturizer.  Then I tried the 3Lab Perfect BB Cream and realized I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

My perfect tube of 3Lab Perfect BB Cream

The 3Lab Perfect BB Cream comes in three shades:  01 Light (Marcia’s shade), 02 Medium (my shade), and 03 Dark.  I find the Medium shade to be very forgiving, so even though I cycle through many shades in the summer depending on where my faux tan is, it still seems to work for me.

Shade 02, Medium

I love the texture of this.  It’s not liquidy, and it’s not really a cream.  Like Marcia said, it’s almost gel-like.  It gives such a gorgeous finish, skin looks luminous and…well…perfect!  It’s got more coverage than any other BB creams I have tried, although I have to admit I haven’t tried a lot.

I know the price point is high, but my goodness I love this BB cream.  I use it all the time, especially when it’s really hot out and I don’t want regular foundation.  (I don’t ever use the roller, by the way, since I lost it right after I got it!  Instead I just use my fingers or else my Beauty Blender.)  This feels very ‘breathable’ on the skin but still provides enough coverage to make me happy.  Now I understand the hype about BB creams!  – Lisa

Lisa’s Top Picks of 2011: Skin Care, Body Care, and the rest!

A few days ago I posted my favorite color items, you can find that post here.  ’Top picks’ posts are the ones I enjoy writing up the most, I love sharing the extra good stuff with you, and I love being able to put all this fabulousness in one review!  I was going to publish today’s post of my favorite skin care, body care, and other miscellaneous items yesterday, but boy did I get hit with the flu.  I’m all better now, so here is my list for you.

Favorite skin care:

I found several skin care items that I am constantly reaching for over and over. I love the Chella Foaming Cleanser Lavish Souffle, it the perfect cleanser and you only need a tiny bit.

Chella Foaming Cleanser

I really got into natural organic lines, like Annmarie Gianni Skin Care Neroli Toning Mist and Coconut Oil, beautiful products from a fantastic line with a great message.

I also loved the Artisan Naturals Lemon Cypress Exfoliating Mask, which is my favorite go-to for pesky breakouts.

To even out my skin tone, I have been absolutely loving the Omorfies Etenia Lightening Cream by Kleraderm.

Two other skin care lines that I adore are 3Lab (for their amazing Super Eye Treatment and Perfect Lips)

and YBF Skin Care (Hydrate B and Boost are flipping fabulous).

YBF Boost

Favorite primer:

This one is a tie for me.  I am completely impressed with Reviva Labs Makeup Primer,

it’s a great silicone based primer that actually goes on light.

And I am totally loving the Youngblood Mineral Primer,

Youngblood Mineral Primer

which has a wonderful texture and really helps my makeup stay put all day.

Favorite Facialist:

My favorite facialist this year was Joanne Kallabat, owner of Kleraderm.

Joanne Kallabat with her son, Michael

It’s such a treat to go to Nordstrom and get a $150 facial for only $20 – plus she gives the BEST face massage ever.  I love how she gives tons and tons of samples first.  She wants to figure out what works best for your skin before she will even let you buy anything!

Favorite Fragrances:

I have completely embraced the layering concept by Lisa Hoffman, and her Tuscan Fig fragrance is just to die for.

Lisa Hoffman Variations case with the Tuscan Fig fragrance

Plus, her iScentify scent finder is super fun to play with.

I also fell in love with the Juara Candlenut Fragrance.

This is a swoon-worthy coconut scent that makes everyone want to hug you.  And then hug you again.

Favorite storage solution:

Wow, this one was a life changer – the Zuca Pro Artist Case.

It has totally changed my organizational system, and has made makeup gigs so much easier, as well as travel.  Looks like we are going to be doing more contests with Zuca this year, so stay tuned!!

Favorite hand cream:

I am a hand cream addict, since I work at a school and need to wash my hands about twenty times a day.  I cannot do without my Votre Vu Duette Lux Lip Balm and Hand Cream.

Little mirror, lip balm, and then hand cream, all in one package??  Absolute genius, and the hand cream smells truly amazing.

Favorite body products:

2011 was a Whish year for me, that’s for sure. I love this retro line, every single product is a winner.

Just this morning I was thanking the Whish Gods for making their amazing Shave Crave Shaving Cream.

Tarte Cosmetics is a line better known for its great color products, but a true unsung hero is the Tarte Celebutante.

It’s a gorgeous body shimmer spray that smells unbelievably good, like fresh coconut and vanilla.  Yummy!!

Speaking of coconuts, I went pretty ‘coconutty’ for the Bodycology Island Coconut products.

The body cream, body wash, and body spray are all truly terrific, and I reach for them all the time.

Favorite sunning/self-tanner products:

I am a big fan of faux tanning, and I had some great discoveries this past year.  Hampton Sun is a go-to line for any sun products, including faux tanning.  I love the Privet Blossom products, they have a unique scent that is totally summer in a bottle.

Hampton Sun Shimmer Spray in Bronze

The spray SPF is amazing, and the faux tanning and body shimmer products are excellent.  Try this line, you won’t be disappointed.

Another great discovery that changed my faux tanning was the Beautisol Self Tanning Magic Mitt.

This $6 wonder completely changed my faux tanning experience for the better!!  No streaks, no worries, no problems.  Love it!!

I also fell in love with Tan Towels.  Such a quick, sanitary way to get a deep tan, plus the towelettes travel so well.

Miscellaneous:

Favorite cleaning products:

Dusting Fragrance

I am the first to admit that housekeeping is never a priority for me, so finding things that help make cleaning joyful is huge for me.  Sweet Grass Farm has pretty awesome cleaning products that give me extra motivation, my favorites are the Dusting fragrance and Lemon Verbena Liquid Soap.

Favorite clothing line:

I am totally digging the Sprigs clothing line.  Pictured above I am wearing my Banjee while shopping.  I love these little guys, they really do make life easier.  And I wear my infinity scarves all the time too.  So many great items, it’s a fabulous line that I am so happy I discovered this year!

That’s it for all my favorites of 2011.  And now on to an amazing year of even more terrific discoveries in 2012!!  – Lisa

Three favorites from 3Lab

I struggle with finding the right skin products for summer time.  The heat and the sun make my skin more oily and prone to blemishes, and products that are too rich make me break out like crazy.  I need sunscreen, but many types really irritate my skin.  My lips are always, always dry so I need something that keeps them moist but doesn’t cause the dreaded ‘corner mouth lip zit’.   And my eye area just begs for moisture, but in the heat many eye creams give me milia.

I think I have found three absolutely perfect skin care products, and they happen to be from a company with a 3 in the name – 3Lab.  The ’3′ represents the three owners, two of whom are chemists, one is an MD.  I can’t even tell you how many times I have drooled over this line at department stores, I love the minimalistic packaging and I have heard and read that the products really live up to the hype.

My first rave is for the Perfect Sunscreen SPF 55 ($40).  This is a terrific moisturizer for face and body, and it really protects against sun damage.  It’s a broad spectrum cream that blocks 99% of all UVA and UVB rays (it has Avobenzone in it).  Most sunscreens with this much protection leave a white film that just does not sink in all the way.  This one is a creamy lotion that smooths on easily and soaks right in.

It has zero fragrance, plus it has four different antioxidants to fight against environmental damage, and anti-inflammatory ingredients to calm the skin.  I love it, I agree with the name – it is PERFECT.

And speaking of ‘perfect’, another of my favorite products from 3Lab is Perfect Lips ($40).  Marcia and I used this constantly on our trip to California, especially on the long plane ride which is so drying for skin and lips.

I love the slant tip applicator.  The lip balm sinks in quickly, leaving me with super hydrated lips that are ready for lipstick.  There are tons of interesting ingredients in this lip balm.  3Lab says it includes:

Apple Stem Cell Technology, which stimulates stem cells, rejuvenates the skin and prevents chronic aging.
? NanoClair GY, a bio-engineered growth hormone, works as a “hormone replacement therapy” for the lips.
? Maxi Lip hydrates the lips and restores collagen, increasing lip moisture and adding volume to improve the contour of the lips.
? Sunflower extract intensely moisturizes and helps rejuvenate dry lips and treats fine lines and wrinkles around the lips.
? Vitamin E, a natural anti-oxidant helps fight free radical damage.”

That’s a lot to pack in lip balm, but it certainly does do the trick.  I reach for this all the time.

And my third pick for perfect summer skin care products is the pricey but oh-so-fabulous Super Eye Treatment ($350).

I would never, ever recommend a really expensive product unless it just blew me away…and the 3Lab Super Eye Treatment has totally impressed me.  It reduces the appearance of my wrinkles, brightens my dark circles, de-puffs my puffiness, and evens out my skin tone.  I use this morning and night, smoothing it on under my eyes and on my eyelids, which reduces the crepey look my eyelids can have.  I also smooth it on above my upper lip, and any other area that has wrinkles.

I don’t know if you can tell from this swatch, but the eye cream is a thin, smooth creamy lotion that almost shimmers. It has a whole slew of impressive sounding ingredients, mostly centered around stem cells.  I have the main ingredients and what they do listed below, for those of you who want to understand the ‘how’.  I guess I don’t even care if I don’t understand the science behind it…I just know it works.  And if it fits into your eye cream budget, then buy it – you will LOVE it.

All three products from 3Lab are sheer perfection in my book.  I use these in the summer to get perfectly moisturized and protected skin, soft supple lips, and younger looking eyes.  3Lab is most definitely a line worth a look.  – Lisa

Super Eye Treatment Ingredients:

PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica — derived from stem cell of a rare variety of apples, it protects and stimulates skin stem cells and prevents chronic skin aging
PhytoCellTec Solar Vitis — derived from stem cell of a rare red-flesh grape, it protects the most outer layer of skin, the epidermal stem cells, against UV damage
Plant Stem Cell Extract — chrysanthemum flower stem cell culture medium
E-Mortal — this nano-sized, liposomized peptides extracted from wheat effectively fights the aging of the skin, such as fine lines and wrinkle by activating/promoting stem cell, increasing collagen production by increasing fibroblasts(skin cell that increases collagen production) and inhibiting an enzyme that prohibits collagen production
NanoClair GY — a bio-engineered growth hormone-like protein, encapsulated in nano-liposomes, that works as a “hormone replacement therapy” for the skin
Derm SRC — a synergistic complex of bamboo silica, pea extract and glucosamine HCI that increases the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, and induces cell proliferation, firming the skin while making deeper wrinkles less visible
Matrixyl 3000 — a peptide blend that has a visible anti-wrinkling and lifting effect by restructuring and repairing tissue by regulating cell activities, activating certain genes involved in the process of extracellular matrix renewal and cell proliferation
Cytobiol Lumin-Eye — unique blend of Ash tree bark extract, organic silicon and vitamin B3 decreases under-eye bags and tones eye contour by increasing blood microcirculation and lymphatic drainage, strengthening blood capillaries, preventing the degradation of Hemoglobin and reinforcing and protecting the supporting tissues to prevent a decrease in skin firmness
