Benefit Fake Up Concealer – will it fake people out?

For some reason when I say the name of Benefit’s newest concealer (Fake Up) I just keep hearing Michael Jackson in my head singing “Beat It”. I think that’s apropos though for a concealer since the goal to use a concealer is to beat the darkness or redness or whatever it is that needs to be concealed.

Benefit Fake Up Concealer is different than any other concealer I own. First it’s meant to be used only underneath your eyes. Second it consists of two textures, the concealer is a core inside a moisturizing serum that Benefit created. This outer core is made up of Vitamin E and apple seed extract which help diffuse the lines and hydrate your undereye area. It comes in just 3 colors which limits its audience and is $24 which is a little steep for the amount of product it contains.

I bought this at Ulta (during a 20% off event) in 01 Light. On my hand this appears very yellow and I almost walked away but a lemming is a lemming and I put it in my little Ulta basket. On my eyes though I don’t really see that yellow so I’m glad about that. The tone is light but not white-light. It blends very well under my eyes so it does conceal.

What I like about Fake Up (actually I keep calling it ‘Fake It’ when I’m not calling it Beat It) is that it moisturizes under my eyes and it doesn’t cake. I always have to reapply it at the end of the day but it lasts for most of the day without creasing. My eyes don’t look or feel dry when I’m wearing this. I like this as part of my arsenal of weapons against the dark circles under my eye but only as part of my arsenal. If you have super dark circles under your eyes, I don’t think this is going to cut it for you. But if they are light or moderate then it’s worth a try. I’ve been using mine almost every day since I bought it so I know I like it. I think it’s a product I might actually use up and that never happens! — Marcia

  1. I have oily skin, so when I hear moisturizing concealer I just think Oh, it will probably settle into my fine lines. It looks very interesting though.

@Leticia, I’m surprised that it doesn’t crease on me. I’ve used it every day since I got it. My only complaint is that I can’t use it elsewhere but it’s eliminated me mixing a concealer with eye cream.

  3. I have super oily skin and nearly everything melts off me by lunch time no matter what I do, but this stuff hangs in pretty well. I was leery at first, but it works quite well for me. I paid full price and have no regreats at all. It covers better than I expected and doesn’t settle into my burgeoning wrinkles. Can’t beat that!

  4. I’m going to have to check this out- thanks for the excellent review. I am on the search for a new moisturizing concealer, and the NARS Radiant Concealer actually dried out my under eye area– so this looks like a suitable replacement! Thanks!<3
