I make no secret of my love for cosmetics. I go overboard buying eyeshadows, concealer, foundation, blush and more. But it all starts with the skin. If my skin isn’t looking great then nothing else matters.
I was offered the opportunity to review CALYSTA LABS ILLUMINATING ANTI-AGING SERUM. I took my time before agreeing to use it to learn about it. I liked what I saw and now I’ve been using it for the last few months. I am very fickle about skincare and I have a bad habit of not sticking with anything too long, looking for the next best thing. But this serum has been one that I keep returning to.
It’s the ingredients that drew me to the line since they are meant for fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and sagging skin. While I’m not sagging yet I do have plenty of fine lines, a few wrinkles and some hyperpigmentation. From Calysta: “A lightweight but powerful combination of hydroxyacid, retinol and antioxidants helps even skin’s tone and texture, while also treating blemishes and dark spots, boosting all-over brightness, and helping reduce the appearance of fine lines.”
The first ingredient seen in the list is Aloe which is nature’s healing product. In a lot of serums you’ll find water as the first ingredient so this starts out on the right track. Next you’ll find Retinol. I’m a relatively new user to retinol though it’s been in other skincare that I’ve tried. I was concerned about a drying effect but that never happened. As a matter of fact I’ve since added in a Retinol that I bought at the dermatologist.
Two important ingredients are the glycolic acid and the niacinamide that are important for skin turnover. Glycolic Acid will stimulate collagen production which diminishes as we age. Niacinamide is a form of B3 that helps with both acne and hyperpigmentation. Since this also has Vitamins C and E along with important oils like rose, coconut and jojoba it’s been soothing to my skin.
At first I noticed a slight tingle. Directions say to use a pea size amount for your entire face so it is strong at first. It’s also advised to use this every other night for the first several applications before you start using it nightly. In the morning my face is more even toned and looks a tad more radiant.
Everything I was hoping for with Calysta’s Illuminating Anti-Aging Serum has happened. My skin is looking good enough to go without foundation some days. On other days I’m only using light foundations, I’ve gone away from anything medium or heavy for the last few months. While a bottle costs $69 for 30ml/1.0 fl oz I use so little that I don’t envision finishing this until winter 2019. That’s a bonus.
Would I buy Calysta Lab Illuminatng Anti-Aging Serum? In spite of a very light natural fragrance that dissipates quickly, I would continue to use it. I am happy with the radiance and I believe in natural products that help with anti-aging. — Marcia
