What does Marcia actually use up? An empty post of sorts

A lovely group of bloggers decided to all post their Empty products today and link to each other. Since I think I’ve only done an empty post once I decided to get in on the fun and show you what I use and what I think about these products. I didn’t start saving at the beginning of January but I did do a slight KonMarie for this post.

This is my biggie since I love to do my eyes and apply makeup 6 out of 7 days a week. I cleaned out my drawer too to rid myself of mascara and liner that were just hanging out.

Mascara empties

COVER GIRL FLOURISH* – while I liked this it didn’t last me three months, it seemed to dry out more quickly than I expected therefore I won’t purchase it again.

MALLY SMOKY MAMA! MASCARA*  – a winner. I think this did a terrific job on my lashes and I never had a problem. I’d purchase it once I get through the many mascaras I have unopened.

SMASHBOX FULL EXPOSURE  –  a snack size from one of my subscriptions. It’s okay but not one I’d buy.

MIRENESSE SECRET WEAPON* – I was so excited to use Mirenesse after over a year away from it and it started out wonderfully. But with time I got tired of it and it didn’t live up to my expectations.

MAC FALSE LASHES  –  A very mini as an extra in a beauty order. Very disappointed in this. Maybe it’s the size but it did nothing for my lashes.

EDDIE FUNKHOUSER QUATTRO VARIABLE LASH MASCARA  –  A favorite of mine. I love this mascara and bought 2 backups the last time I ordered.

MARC JACOBS VELVET NOIR  –  a snack size from a Marc Jacobs order. It’s the second time I’ve tried this and the second time I’m unimpressed.

BENEFIT BIG BANG  –  It’s a favorite of my friend Allison from Never Say Die Beauty but this sample size didn’t love my lashes and I saw no bang.

L’OREAL LASH PARADISE  –  my favorite of any drugstore mascaras I’ve tried and yes I have an unopened one.

Eyeliner and brow empties

STILA ALL DAY LIQUID LINER (brown)  –  This is a great reliable liquid eyeliner and one I’d buy again when I’m out of liquid liners.

PHYSICIAN’S FORMULA EYE BOOSTER LIQUID  (deep brown)  – PF is my favorite liquid eyeliner and I have bought it at least half a dozen times. I have at least one new one waiting in the wings.

JESSE’S GIRL LIQUID EYELINER (brown) – this is my second Jesse’s Girl brown liner. I can’t find it at my local Rite Aid but I’d buy it again.

BOBBI BROWN MAHOGANY INK GEL LINER  –  I’ve been using gel liners again but Mahogany Ink is too dried up to use. I have a few other shades of the BB gels.

PIXI ENDLESS BROW GEL PENCIL  –  Second one I’ve used up and I probably have a 3rd somewhere. But the problem is that it dries and has to be resharpened every time I use it. So no more of these for me.

Cosmetic bye byes

IT COSMETICS IT-O2 Ultra Repair Liquid Oxygen Foundation  –  I never heard talk about this foundation but it was really great and one I loved using. It’s been replace though with Bye Bye Lines Foundation so I still get to use this winner.

CHANTECAILLE TOTAL CONCEALER (Ivory)  –  I’m embarrassed to say I’ve had this probably 5 years. I made a good dip in it but now I can’t get it out and it feels really dry. It’s doubtful I’d buy it again.

TWEEZERS  –  These are a “no name” brand that I was told was made by Tweezerman. I loved this tweezers and used it for years. I’ve just dropped it too many times and it doesn’t tweeze anymore. On my trip I found another one in my brush case but haven’t tested it.

Things to toss

All of these have outlived their usefulness and are now in the garbage.

PIXI SHADES OF BROWS*  – I used and abused this brow palette. The top snapped off and I kept using it. I used up 90% of the dark brown and now it just crumbles, I used the medium brown a good amount. The rest didn’t get used much. I remember buying a new one at Target so I’ll use it some day again.

WINKY LUX EYEBROW PENCIL  –  I had to work so frigging hard to get this to apply. It was part of a subscription and not a brow product I’d recommend.

L’OREAL VISIBLE LIFT BLUR BLUSH  –  tossing it since the texture has become rubbery. I tossed another in March for the same reason.

BOBBI BROWN TWILIGHT NIGHT SHIMMER INK  –  Gorgeous discontinued shade but it seems to crumble on my eyes.

SAMPLE SIZES OF LAURA MERCIER SMOOTH FINISH AND MAKE UP FOR EVER ULTRA HD FOUNDATIONS  –  these served their purpose since I could tell what they look like on skin and how they smelled but the colors are too dark for me.

NYX EYESHADOW BASE  –  I shouldn’t buy pots like this since I can’t get my finger in them and then they dry up too much.

ARTIS 10*  –  So sad but the handle snapped off and it became too hard to use. No fears though since I had bought the palm version of the brush and I have two other brands that I use all the time.

Hair empties

BRAZILIAN BLOWOUT ACAI SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER  –  These are my go-to hair products. I buy them 3 times a year since they last a long time.

OHC ORGANIC HAIR CARE SHAMPOO*  –  While you see the conditioner it’s the shampoo I used up. We took the shampoo on our trip and my husband tossed it when it was empty. I’d buy it again since I really like this brand.

Necessary items

Usually when I talk about empties it’s Q-tips, Mary Kay Eye Makeup Remover and cotton pads. In the last 6 weeks I finished 2 of the Shiseido Facial Cotton packages (one was half done already) instead of the DHC ones I usually use. I also am including the CRYSTAL Deodorant* since I discovered it through the blog and it’s my favorite.

Necessary items part 2

I go through a lot of Micellar Water and so what you see are two Bioderma H2O and one Garnier (I tossed the empty one when packing for home on my trip). I also used up an Evian spray which took me a year and a half to finish!! I now have one from La Roche Posey that will probably take me 2 years to finish.

Mask empties

VITABRID DUAL MASK*  –  Not only is this a great mask but when paired with  Vitabrid C12s FACE Brightening Powder it helps lighten my age spots. I’ve used this mask twice and used up another prior to this. One more left in my stash!

SNOW FOX ARCTIC BREEZE DETOX COOLING MASK*  –  Another great mask for those of us who enjoy sheet masks. I have two more of these left so I’m set for a while.

JJ YOUNG PORE CHARCOAL MUD SHEET MASK*  –  fun but so very messy. I don’t buy mud masks but I do use them when I receive them.

7TH HEAVEN COCONUT + CLAY PEEL OFF MASK*  –  These $1.99 masks are a great treat, This coconut one is probably my favorite of the ones that I’ve used from 7th Heaven.

WHEW!! I had no idea that it would be so much. I have a box under my vanity and I just kept tossing things in it. I’m sure February will be a lot less (especially mascaras). One of my goals is to start using up more samples that I receive so I am working on that.

Now go visit the other Empty posts and have fun  —  Marcia

I’m inspired that you finished that Pixi Brow Palette. I’m trying to finish a whole Benefit BrowZings this quarter. Great job with the mascara clean-out! Looking forward to your next update.

  2. Honeygirlk | 30th Jan 19

That’s so awesome that you finished so many of these products. Especially the brow stuff. I don’t get through much brow stuff quickly except for brow pencils. Awesome job with all the mascara. So much fun. I’m looking forward to seeing all the others you are going to complete.

  3. Ccarol | 30th Jan 19

I go through a lot or brow pencils, eyeliners, lip liners, concealers! I also have to toss tons of mascaras because they go bad so quickly!

  11. Michele Pineda | 1st Feb 19

very interesting set of cosmetics! My daughter has tons of makeup and loves getting the sample sizes and finding her faves from the subscription boxes I get for her. So far we have found a few, but enjoyed reading your opinions on some of these products.

  12. Cindy Ingalls | 1st Feb 19

Great post Marcia! Love your mascara & micellar water choices.

I did a big purge last year, especially when I realized I had items that were YEARS old. I had big plans to depot my eyeshadow palettes but then I realized there’s no real reason to? I like being able to throw a palette in my vacation bag and go on.

  14. 25 Sweetpeas | 4th Feb 19

    That really was a lot!

  15. Ehmkay Nails | 4th Feb 19
