Who can resist the temptation of a new, innovative ‘miracle worker’ product for skin? Not me. You can always find me in line to try it. Great skin care science is not a myth. It exists and can truly make a difference in the health and appearance of skin, although many treatments are only available from professionals. NuFACE has a reputation for immediate gratification via an easy to use in-home device, so when Beauty Brands offered to send the NuFACE Mini Facial Toning Device no one had to twist my arm, that’s for sure.
The NuFACE Mini Facial Toning Device ($199) is a smaller travel sized version of the NuFACE Trinity ($325). It does the same thing the Trinity does however the Trinity comes with a charging cradle and has the option of attachments that specifically target lips and eyes. The Mini is petite, portable, and powerful, and is perfect for ‘on the go’ or as an introduction to the microcurrent scene. My set came with the 2 oz. Gel Primer ($12), and Beauty Brands included the Optimizing Mist ($40) hydrating spray so I could try that as well.
I received this about two months ago and it has taken me a while to review it because I wanted to test it for at least 60 days. I am a fan of at-home devices for three main reasons: one, they don’t require the use of needles or a visit to the doctor; two, while they initially seem pricey they are downright affordable when compared to treatments like botox; and three, a device that isn’t complicated and quick to use is easily worked into a skin care routine.
NuFACE devices tone and tighten skin using microcurrent technology, which is non-surgical facial stimulation. Low-frequency electrical currents re-educate facial muscles, restoring elasticity and skin tone. The ultimate benefits for skin include decreased fine lines and wrinkles, increased ATP (cell energy), plumped up facial muscles, increased blood circulation, and reduced jowls and double chin. The NuFACE microcurrent facial toners are also FDA-cleared for facial stimulation.
A side note – just the thought of electricity sounds painful, doesn’t it? But this treatment does NOT hurt in the least. The metallic balls provide a light massaging effect, but that’s it. NuFACE is mega-wimp approved.
I like the fact that NuFACE highly encourages personal before and after photos. They even recommend treating one side of your face then taking a photo so you can see the difference immediately, which is exactly what I did for this review. Their clinical study showed a ‘significant improvement in facial contour, skin tone and wrinkle reduction after 60 days of use of the NuFACE Trinity® Facial Trainer’. 85% of users experienced significant improvements in facial contour, 80% said their face felt more toned and 73% reported seeing significant improvements in skin tone.
The NuFACE Gel Primer is the first step in the microcurrent treatment. The gel is lightweight and water based (oil based products inhibit the effectiveness of microcurrents). The Gel Primer is an essential step – spread across skin, it helps the device glide along easily. The 2 oz. is enough to for 30 days of treatments.
The NuFACE Optimizing Mist is a hydrating spray that reactivates the gel if it has set on the face for too long. It also has aloe vera and hyaluronic acid, so it’s a great hydrator and refresher in general. I like this product a lot and use it even when I’m not using the NuFACE Mini.
Ok, so enough background info…let’s get into the nitty gritty on how this baby works. There are three basic steps for the 5 Minute Facial Lift.
1. Cleanse skin with an oil-free cleanser (my favorite is Paula’s Choice Resist Perfectly Balanced Cleanser (click HERE for $10 off a first order). Next. apply a thick layer of the Gel Primer – skin should look wet and the gel helps the device glide along the skin. Press the ON button and control for intensity level.
2. Begin treatment. There are two basic areas to treat. The first is the jowl/jaw line and cheek. Just place the Mini on the area closest to the middle of the face and wait for a beep. Then glide upwards toward the hair-line. Stop and go to the next area after you hear the second beep, which is five seconds later.
It takes me four glides to cover the jaw line/cheek area. After the initial pass, I redo the same pattern two more times.
The next treatment area is the brow and forehead. Start with the outer portion just above the brows, and glide the device up toward the hairline. Again, begin with the first beep and end with the second five seconds later. Repeat this pattern three times.
3. Finish up by cleaning off the gel, applying skin care, and cleaning the device. A warm washcloth removes the gel and I like to finish with a spritz of the Optimizing Mist. The NuFACE Mini comes with a charging cord and also wipes off easily with a warm damp washcloth.
So what were my results?? Here is a pic after a five-minute treatment for both jaw line and forehead. I treated only the left side of my face, which is on your RIGHT in the photograph. What do you think? This photo is completely unretouched and I am wearing NO makeup except for mascara.
I see a difference. The treated side looks tighter and is lifted. I do have more eye wrinkles on that side naturally…I think it’s because it is the side exposed to the sun when I’m driving…but in general it looks much better than the other side. I am impressed, especially since the treatment took about 2 minutes.
Here is a pic after I treated my entire face:
I am very, very impressed. My face is lifted, toned, and tighter. My pores are smaller and my wrinkles far less noticeable. I find the lift lasts a good 24 hours, and over time results became even more permanent and more dramatic.
The NuFACE Mini can also be used on the neck and upper arms to firm and tighten. You can spot treat as well, simply holding the NuFACE Mini in place for the full five seconds on deep wrinkles and problem areas.
My opinion? I think the NuFACE Mini is a winner winner chicken dinner! I would love to try the Trinity to focus on my lips and eyes which are the next major areas I need to tackle. What do you think…do you find my results to be dramatic enough to invest in the NuFACE Facial Toning Device?? – Lisa
