Rahua has rainforest grown beauty for beautiful hair!

I recently wrote about the gorgeous Rahua line of hair and body care that is centered around rahua oil.  I tested several body products that I adore and couldn’t wait to try the hair care products since the Rahua line was created by the famous New York hair stylist/colorist Fabian Lliguin. He was in the Amazon doing environmental work when he realized the women all had fabulous hair that was beyond waist length. They told him it was all because of rahua oil which their tribe had used for centuries. So Fabian brought some back to the US and was astounded at the results the oil had on his clients. He and his wife Anna Ayers created the Rahua brand and the Quechua-Shuar tribe produces the rahua oil for them in the same exact sustainable way they have for generations.

Rahua Rainforest Grown Beauty

The star of the Rahua hair products is definitely the Rahua Elixir ($175). If this is in your budget, I just can’t recommend it enough. It’s like a rainforest miracle in a bottle. The oil is super concentrated, and a tiny bit gives immediate results – it makes damaged hair sleek and healthy looking, and it calms sore, itchy scalps and helps hair grow faster. The formula is full of antioxidants and antibacterials, and it also keeps hair color super vibrant. The scent is the gorgeous freshness of Palo Santo oil.

Rahua Elixir

KEY BENEFITS
Repairs, strengthens and restores damaged hair
Delivers long-lasting moisture and high shine
Calms, soothes, hydrates, and protects the scalp
Promotes blood circulation and stimulates hair growth

RAHUA (UNGURAHUA): Amazonian women have for eons depended on the oil from this tree nut to nurture and strengthen their hair. It fortifies weak, damaged strands, nourishes and maintains hair follicle and scalp health, and its super-fine molecules push color pigmentation deep into the hair shaft, greatly extending color endurance. We use Symbiotic®* Rahua.

PALO SANTO: Known as “holy wood” and prized by Amazonian shamans since the Incan era for its spiritual purifying properties, the essence of this wild tree is Rahua’s signature scent. Its sophisticated, earthy aroma offers a soothing aromatherapy experience.

To use the Elixir, you just take a few drops and rub them between your palms. Then, run it through hair and onto your scalp after you style your hair and before using any setting spray. Your hair will look and feel incredible – smooth, healthy, soft, and so shiny!

If you need a more intense treatment, use an entire dropper of oil on hair and scalp and leave it on overnight. Just wash it out the next morning and your hair will be transformed. The Elixir is the BOMB.

Rahua Voluminous Dry Shampoo

The Elixir keeps hair super healthy and there are two other products that I tested for keeping hair looking amazing between shampoos. The Voluminous Dry Shampoo ($32) is very interesting – it looks like a typical spray on dry shampoo, but it isn’t. It’s actually in an environmentally friendly non-aerosol dispenser, and inside is a mixture of clay, tapioca, and star anise for soaking up oil and providing texture and volume to hair.

Rahua Voluminous Dry Shampoo

KEY BENEFITS
Cleans and refreshes
Builds volume and body
Adds texture

CASSAVA (TAPIOCA): This edible root has been a staple for Amazonian people for thousands of years. Organic, food-grade Cassava starch absorbs oil, perspiration, and debris from the scalp and hair and builds a supportive base for long-lasting durable styles.

COSMETIC CLAY: Used for centuries in makeup and as a health treatment, clay absorbs oil, perspiration, and dirt from scalp and hair.

ORGANIC STAR ANISE: This evergreen seed offers a spicy fragrance and antimicrobial properties that help maintain a healthy scalp.

The spray bottle is really interesting but there is a learning curve to using it. Once you figure it out, this is a very nifty dry shampoo that does what it says and is a great alternative to chemical-based dry shampoos.

Rahua Voluminous Spray

Another way to keep your hair fresh and revitalized between washes is with the Rahua Voluminous Spray ($32). Such a beautiful hair freshener for fine or oily hair! It smells fantastic – a mixture of lavender and eucalyptus that is clean and lovely. It has citrus juice that gets rid of oiliness and I love that this is alcohol-free so it doesn’t dry out my ends. It just gives my hair some lift and life.

KEY BENEFITS
Soft hold
Light, beachy texture
Refreshes hair and scalp

ORGANIC CITRUS JUICES: Fruit extracts refresh hair and scalp by breaking down oils and extending time between shampooing and provide soft hold and texture

ORGANIC LEMONGRASS: Extracts from this plant give hair bounce, body, and volume by gently removing excess oils from the scalp and hair shaft without compromising their moisture balance and integrity.

ORGANIC SUGARCANE: The extract from this reedy grass give hair hold and natural shine.

LAVENDER: Prized around the world since ancient times, the smoky, herbal scent of this flowering plant (ours is cultivated in France) calms the mind and soothes the senses.

ORGANIC EUCALYPTUS: Best known for its refreshing scent, this tree’s extracts also have clarifying and antimicrobial properties. Eucalyptus keeps hair clean longer and extends the time between shampoos.

I flip my hair over then spray my roots, kind of shaking my hair out while spraying. That gives me the best results. When I want to get super fancy, I break out the blowdryer and use that for a few seconds as well.  The results are always terrific – no more oil, lots of volume, and my hair smells awesome.

The hair products from Rahua are top-notch and I am really loving them, especially the Elixir and the Voluminous Spray. You can find this beautiful environmentally conscious line online at rahua.com and at dermstore.com.  – Lisa
