Finally, it looks like fall in Michigan! This is my view as I type this post. I love the change of weather, and I always find myself updating my look in some way to mark the new season. I have been using my Stylecraft Style Stix XL Long Curling Iron with a 1.25″ barrel to curl my hair. However, Stylecraft recently sent me the almost impossible to find version that has a 1.5″ barrel, so I have switched, moving from tighter curls to much looser and flowy ones. Both curling irons share some important features, but the .5 inch difference in the barrel size makes a big difference in how my hair looks.
I have very long hair – about down to my bra strap – and it is not easy to find a curling iron that can handle all that length. The StyleCraft Style Stix XL Long Curling Iron ($54.95) does so with ease. It comes in three sizes – 1”, 1.25” & 1.5”. I have both the 1.25 and the 1.5 inch. Both sizes allow me to make long, loose, beachy waves without having to overlap my hair on the wand. Before I got my 1.25″ curling iron, I hadn’t ever experienced that before in my life.
The Style Stix XL Curling Irons have lots of great features.
• Tri-Plex Fusion to Reduce Frizz for Healthy, Silky Hair
• Ultra Glide Technology
• Temperature Range from 250°-450°F
• XL Long Barrel for Curls & Waves in One Shot
• Consistent, Even Heat Distribution
• Multi-Setting Heat Control for All Hair Types
• Ergonomic Design
• 9 FT Tangle-free Swivel Cord
• 2-Year Limited Warranty
The wand heats up immediately and the heat is distributed evenly. You can choose anywhere from 250° – 450°. Even when I crank the heat up all the way because I am in a hurry, there is no smoke or weird smell. The wand is very lightweight and so easy to use. I thought it would be difficult to use this curling iron since it’s so long, but it’s actually a breeze, especially with the swivel cord. The cord is simply the best – no matter how I move, it never gets tangled.
The iron shuts off by itself after an hour in case I forget – which I often do – so this is a really awesome feature. And the tip is longer so I can grab it and maneuver it better. The whole iron is simply designed for maximum ease of use, and it feels comfy and not too heavy in your hand. With very long hair, styling always seems awkward. With this baby it’s all so easy. It only takes one time to create a curl that lasts all day.
I also love the Tri-Plex Fusion technology which combines Nano Keratin Proteins (for healthier, stronger hair) with advanced Ceramic Tourmaline (to emit negative ions and seal hair’s cuticle) and reduce frizz by up to 75% to add super-smooth shine. Who doesn’t want smooth, frizz-free hair? It really leaves my hair looking ultra shiny and super healthy. This curling iron is a winner. Love it.
So, the difference between the 1.25″ barrel and the 1.5″ barrel all comes down to tightness of the curl. The lasting power is the same for both, but with the 1.5″ I get much more loose, cascading curls. Here is what my hair looks like after I use the 1.25″ version:
And here is what it looks like after using the 1.5″ version:
I like both looks, but I am enjoying the looser curls. Somehow they make me feel more relaxed and laid back. I do feel like I can’t go wrong with either version, but it’s lots of fun to have some options.
