MAC wants to MAC Me Over

MAC Me Over is the latest MAC collection to come our way and it’s one of their biggies. 51 pieces divided into three parts:

MAC Me Over Rachel & Ian A must-have assortment of M•A•C Artists’ favourite Nudes and Pinks, featuring confirmed classics, new limited-life shades & essential brushes: a tapered 116 Blush Brush & the 190 for Foundation.

MAC Me Over Shirley & Nicole Featuring runway-ready Lipsticks, strong, smoky Eye Shadows, stylish Nail Lacquers & new Fluidlines, this collection is the latest in pure blacks with hints of rich purples, plums, blues & greens that M•A•C Artists have been using backstage.

MAC Me Over Xee & Sharon Play it cool-toned & style-savvy in smoky greys, whites & beiges. An assortment of lightly icy, soft & grayed out shades in Eye Shadow x 4, Shadesticks, Lipglass & Nail Lacquer that range from elegantly edgy to super sophisticated.

MAC Me Over Fluidlines

What made me stop at the MAC store were the new Fluidlines ($15). Regular BIZ readers know that eyeliners are one of my biggest weaknesses and it’s been way too long since MAC came out with any new Fluidlines. With the MAC Me Over Shirley & Nicole collection they made me happy by introducing 3 new ones (all limited edition) plus included a limited edition repromote.

Avenue Fluidline

Avenue Fluidline

Avenue: (new) Charcoal black with gold pearlized. When you look at Avenue there’s a definite golden brown tone to it. On my eyes I’d call it a blackened brown rather than a charcoal. The pearlized gold is subtle on eyes though you’ll notice it if you decide to use Avenue on your eyelid as a base or as a smokey eye shade. This is my favorite of the group.

MAC Midnight Blues Fluidline

Midnight Blues: (new) Blackened blue. Midnight Blues is not navy or cobalt, it has a touch of a teal to its undertone.

MAC Dark Envy Fluidline

Dark Envy: (new) Blackened green. In the storelight this looked much more teal than it applies on my eyes. It’s a very dark green but not quite a forest green. It lightens up when smudged as does Midnight Blues.

MAC Dark Diversion Fluidline

Dark Diversion : (repromote) Darkened plum. I’ve had this (unused) in my collection since there’s a touch of red to it; even though I wanted it I was a little worried about that. It hasn’t been a problem though since I decided to actually use it. It’s definitely a plum shade and not a violet. I think it’s the one that will be the hardest for most people to wear.

The one thing I noticed about these particular Fluidlines is that they aren’t quite as smooth as my old ones. There’s a bit of crumble to them which I especially notice if I rub my eyes at the end of the day. I still love them though and I’m glad MAC came out with these shades, even if they are limited edition.

Wearing MAC Mythical, Carbonized and Avenue

I also purchased two eyeshadows ($15) from the collection: Carbonized and Mythical. Even though it seems like you’ve seen Carbonized before it is slightly different. It has a Veluxe Pearl formula which is one of the best MAC makes. It’s a very dark brown with a black undertone. Surprisingly the MA I worked with at the store thought it was a shade that MAC hadn’t covered before. We all probably have a lot of dark browns but that doesn’t distract from this eyeshadow.

Mythical though is one you’ve seen before. It’s described as ‘frosty copper red’ which doesn’t sound flattering on eyes but it really is, especially with brown or hazel eyes. It’s almost identical to Mythology though so some people may not need this in their collection. Interestingly though this was sold out at two counters I was at recently. Mythical is a veluxe pearl while Mythology is a lustre, rarely a favorite formula. Even though the colors are similar there’s more of a sheen to Mythical and it’s an easier application without any fallout.

Coming up in another review will be my two buys from the Xee & Sharon collection: Lady Gray quad and Street Cool Shadestick. While you are patiently awaiting that though, you need to enter the MAC Me Over Giveaway on Beauty Info Zone. We have purchased Carbonized eyeshadow and Oh, Oh, Oh lipstick (Lustre finish) for one of our readers worldwide. Access the giveaway through this post.

While MAC didn’t totally make me over, they did come out with some new items to thrill even this old time collector. If you don’t find something from the collection on MACcosmetics.com try Nordstrom or Macys or a store with a counter since there doesn’t appear to be one item that’s going to be that rare one that you’ll have to pay through the nose for on ebay. I just hope that the Fluidlines sell out so that MAC can see that I’m not the only one that needs more and more. — Marcia

Nice haul, Marcia. Those fluidlines look excellent. It’s so nice to see something different, and Dark Diversion is gorgeous.

I’m so glad to see new Fluidlines. I just wish they brought back Graphic Brown.

Thanks for the review Marcia, I’ve never tried fluidline before (or anything else from MAC, not yet anyway, I know, totally shocking, right?) :-) , but these liners look lovely. :-) I’m sure the liner lovers of the world (like us) will unite and MAC will have to bring some more beautiful color variations. :-)

What is the difference between the lustre and veluxe pearl finishes, and why is lustre rarely a favorite while veluxe pearl is one of the best? I’m just not terribly familiar with MAC, so I was just wondering. :-) Thanks!

The lustre formula usually is chunky. It doesn’t always go on smoothly and it’s often got fallout. Veluxe Pearl on the other hand are shimmery without glitter and are much smoother to apply.

It’s my favorite of the 4 but I’m finding myself using all of them. I didn’t realize how often I’d be able to use Dark Envy (green) until this.

Thanks so much for the explanation! :-) For some reason based on the name lustre I sort of figured that might be the case, as far as having more chunky glitter and fall out problems (and same thing with the veluxe pearl, it just sounds like it would have a creamy, smooth application with a shimmer to it), but it was nice to have my assumption confirmed. :-)
