From the heart

I have two different entities to talk to you about today yet they fit together. The first is a charity that I’d like to introduce to you, Queen for a Day. The second is a product that I believe fits perfectly for this charity.

Queen for a Day is charity that helps children with cancer as well as giving support to their families. I’ve been marginally involved with the Detroit chapter for at least 6 years. Their initial goal was to help young girls to counter the emotional side effects of pediatric cancer. It has grown though to include all children from ages 1 to 21. The boy’s charity is called Heroes. The charity does hospital visits, parties and sponsors a camp for these children. The parties are amazingly heartwarming – the girls get manicures, makeovers, boas and tiaras and are treated like the queens they deserve to be. The camp sessions give the parents a break as well as allowing children to be children yet having the support of people with similar problems and health support. In order to support these endeavors Queen for a Day does fundraising in different ways. One of the ways I’m involved is that I try to collect as much as I can for a Silent Auction and for goodie bags during their Beauty Bash. The Beauty Bash is for adults and is sponsored by a local beauty academy that donates their beauty services for this fundraiser. I’ve also helped a friend who created personalized dolls for the girls at the Queen for a Day ball (this was prior to Heroes being involved). The girls all received a doll that looked exactly like them through the power of the computer world and the response was so heartwarming.

Queen for a Day is not just a Detroit area charity, you can be involved with it no matter where you live. There are 28 chapters throughout the United States. Plus donations are always welcome no matter where you live.
