It may only be mid February but over the last few weeks I’ve formed some opinions on some likes and dislikes. My finds are products that I really like, not just a little but a whole lot. My fails aren’t terrible but they aren’t products that I enjoy – or as Marie Kondo says “these don’t bring me joy”. They work for others I’m sure but they just aren’t for me so they’ll be gone. Can you guess which three are in the Finds pile before I start?
Sally Hansen has created an Insta-Dri collection with Crayola that is really beautiful. Sonic Silver is the second one that they sent me (first is Shimmering Blush) and I’m crazy about it. This was my first introduction to Insta-Dri and the name is so apropos. I’ve never tried a polish that dried so quickly. This covered in 1 coat and you don’t even need a top or base coat (though I did use them to make this last longer.)
The shades all have a shimmer in them and the colors are all fabulous. Sonic Silver is a charcoal silver so you aren’t blinding anyone but you are wearing the greatest shade that will make you want to show off your beautiful manicure. These are sold at Walmart and I want to make a trip there to pick up other shades in the collection.
CIATE WONDERWAND MASCARA is my second find. I actually found it in January and used it most of the month. The way I found it is through my IPSY subscription. It was offered as an extra to add to the box for $3. I bought two different items and this was the winner.
Wonderwand is a volumizing and lengthening mascara. “WHAT IT DOES Create the ultimate fearless lashes with Ciaté London’s WONDERWAND Mascara. This Carbon black, smudge free formula creates intense 3D volume, curl and length with one swipe of its uniquely shaped wand.” I really liked how my eyes looked wearing this but right now it’s not available in the full size at either Sephora or Ciate’s website. Luckily I bought another mini when Ipsy had it available. Keep your eyes open for this one since it really worked well.
IT COSMETICS HEAVENLY SKIN 2-IN-1 TAP & SMOOTH BRUSH NO. 706 I saw this on IT Cosmetic’s website one day and became obsessed with the brush. I had to have it. Luckily it became available at ULTA and I needed something to get to free shipping. Perfect timing.
Did I need this? No but I wanted it and I’m so happy I bought it. This is a skincare brush for eyes which I never thought I’d need. It’s made for eye creams which I’m obsessed with anyway. The brush side helps you apply the cream without any pulling or tugging. Not all eye creams need this but I have 2 that this is definitely making a difference with. Custom-cut heavenly skin hair infused with anti-aging collagen, silk, peptides, niacin and antioxidants.
Just like I use a rose jade roller on my face I now have this for my eye area. “Handcrafted, smoothing aventurine stone massages product into skin while providing a soothing, cooling sensation.” It gives me the same advantages that the jade roller does but it fits under my eyes perfectly. I have fatty pockets under my eyes and the massage helps them look flatter. Plus it’s good for my psych. A wonderful way to spend $15. And the best find!
Now for the fails. I’m not telling you not to buy these since I think they’ll work for some people but they don’t float my boat.
ITTSE Down by Law eyeshadow single is one of the ITTSE shadows I bought during a sale but it’s been the hardest to use eyeshadow that I’ve tried in years. It’s out of stock now since it was on sale for $3 not too long ago so you won’t have to worry about it. But it’s made me worry about buying more shadows from ITTSE (normally $9).
Here’s ITTSE’s description: “This deep, revved-up khaki packed with delicate golden fleck pays it’s dues and earns a spotlight in every itts? girl’s collection. Down By Law is THE multifaceted powerhouse that elevates your look and blows other hum-drum neutrals away. Dare to enchant with this versatile virtuoso by creating a surprising smoky-eye; pair with warm, golden-jewel tones for a devastatingly daring look that won’t disappoint.” Now wouldn’t you be sold by that? And when you look at the picture of the color in bright light you’d be sold too.
BUT it turns black on me and it doesn’t blend at all. I’ve given it three shots, with different eye bases each time, and it just looks awful on me. I’d accept it as a black IF it blended but I can’t do anything with it… except toss it.
FENTY BEAUTY FLYLINER LIQUID EYELINER was a sad disappointment. I’m not tossing it but I wouldn’t repurchase it either. This liquid eyeliner gets a ton of raves. I received this using a code at Sephora and was so excited about it.
The good: It’s a beautiful dark black liner with a satin finish. It lasts perfectly on my upper lashline.
The bad: Even though the tip looks fine, I can’t seem to get a fine line with it. It comes out thicker than I want. But the real problem is that it doesn’t last on my lower lashline at all. It’s gone quickly but not neatly. I know the solution is to use something different on my lower lashline but this disappoints me.
GLOSSIER CLOUD PAINT in Dusk and Puff ($18 each). There are now 6 Glossier Cloud Paints available but I bought mine a while ago when there were just 3. I love a cream blush and wear that much more than I do a powder blush. I kept reading the raves for Glossier so it was logical that I’d buy a favorite product from them. Now I wonder if I’ll buy anything else from them.
“The pillowy, gel-cream formula is designed to be the most user-friendly cheek color in existence. If you can finger paint, you can Cloud Paint—simply dab it onto cheeks wherever you please. It’s seamless, sheer, and buildable (i.e. it’s hard to accidentally apply too much).”
I beg to disagree with Glossier but you can easily apply too much and the two I have can be hard to work with. No matter what I do I can’t get the right amount out of the tube. Even squeezing softly I tend to get too much out. Plus I don’t think these blend well. I always feel like I’ve got a face full of blush.
Dusk is described as a brownish nude but when I bought it photos I’d seen made it look more peach. Puff is exactly what I expected, a light cool pink, and is the one that I will use up although I expect it to be a very very long time until that happens.
What do you think of these 6 products? Any you are interested in? Any you have? I’d love to know in the comments. — Marciasome affiliate links sample from Sally Hansen purchased by me
