You know what I think is the best part about the fall season? Jeans. Wedge boots. Turtlenecks. Utility jackets. Oh, and the scenery isn’t bad either! I have put together my favorite fall outfit that is comfortable, on trend, and flattering on almost any body type. Here’s what I wear when I want to look good, feel great, and have a perfect day:some samples, affiliate links
Let’s talk jeans. I still love skinny jeans – in fact my absolute favorite skinny jeans right now are LEVI’S® 721™ Ripped High Waist Skinny Jeans.
They are soft, stretchy, and feel like your most favorite leggings on – but they make your legs and butt look amazing, even when they aren’t. However, I also love that bootcut is in style – the retro cut is fabulous if you are curvy, or have an athletic build, or an hourglass shape, or if you rock long legs. Add to that a high cut waist, which totally hides a muffin top and they are amazing!
My favorite this season are the Hi (Rise) Honey Bootcut Jeans in Avianna by Joe’s Jeans ($178). They are a lightweight denim with some stretch – just enough for comfort, but they also won’t sag and get baggy on you. They have a 34 inch inseam, which was a little too long for me even with boots, so I took them to my dry cleaners and had them hemmed. They have a zip fly, which I prefer, and while they are bootcut they are also streamlined so they look very sleek. The Hi (Rise) Honey Bootcut is designed especially for hourglass silhouettes, with a little more room in the hip and thigh.
I pair my perfect jeans with my perfect wedge boots. The chocolate suede Hades Wedge Bootie from Charles by Charles David ($139.95) are worth their weight in gold. The fit is true to size, so you can feel comfortable ordering them online. I went for Chocolate (both my sweet tooth and my feet love chocolate!), but they also come in Taupe Suede and Black Suede. They have a 4 1/2 inch heel, which I could never wear except in a wedge, and a super cute wraparound buckle strap. The Hades Wedge Bootie has a side zip closure, and the footbed is cushioned plus it has a flexible sole. They are the most adorable and the most comfortable boots ever, and I love being that tall for a day. They are also sheer perfection paired with my Joe’s Jeans Hi (Rise) Honey Bootcut Jeans.
Hooray for turtlenecks – they make fall even better! I love a great turtleneck that has some interesting styling and doesn’t make me feel like I am choking. There is no turtleneck better than this one by Cindy Karen, the Seattle Soft & Sultry Lean Cut ($98). This turtleneck is so soft it’s almost indescribable – the material is made from 94% micro modal and 6% lycra. It is lightweight and form fitting, so you can easily layer over it.
The Seattle Soft & Sultry turtleneck comes in three colors – nude, white, and black – and you can get long sleeves, 3/4 length sleeves, or sleeveless. I went with 3/4 length sleeves because I find that to be the best length for layering. The neck is lovely, with gathering at the seams so while the neck doesn’t fold, it still gives that illusion. I haven’t ever owned a more flattering or more comfortable turtleneck, ever. It is one that I will wear for years and years because it will never go out of style and it is fabulous with my jeans and my wedge boots.
I wanted to pair a jacket with my turtleneck/jeans/boots combo and I wanted something that was more on the casual side that kept my comfort quotient and was on trend for the season. I chose my Gap Garment-Dyed Utility Jacket ($89.95). Mine is in the color Mohave, but I can’t find it online right now – the soft green one that the Gap has in stock at the moment is still great. The inner drawcord gives the jacket shape, and it’s just heavy enough to give me some warmth without a lot of bulk. It is such a versatile jacket, seemingly going with everything. It does run a little small, so you may want to size up one. It has long sleeves with snap-button cuffs, a stand collar which is terrific with a turtleneck, snap-flap utility chest and hip pockets. Despite all the pockets, the jacket is slimming and the drawcord gives a great silhouette.
Finally, to finish off my perfect fall outfit – my favorite necklace – a Laramar Moon Necklace ($68). I bought this a few weeks ago at a trade show. The adorable Nina DiMambro had a booth with some of her handmade jewelry. Her company is Twistful Thinking, and Nina hand picks gemstones then wraps them with .925 sterling silver or copper wire. A signature of hers are these gorgeous moon-shaped gemstone necklaces. I bought one with a larimar stone, which I had never seen before. Wikipedia says, “Larimar, also called “Stefilia’s Stone”, is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral pectolite found only in the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. Its coloration varies from white, light-blue, green-blue to deep blue.” I went wild for larimar that day and ended up buying three larimar necklaces and two larimar rings. Definitely check out the Twistful Thinking online store. Her stock varies because she is always selling out then making new things, but you can also request specific items from her.
That’s my go-to outfit this fall – what are you loving this season? – Lisa
