Cool product alert: Sonoma Wool Dish Drying Mat

I am always amazed at how some of the smallest things make life infinitely better. I never would have thought that a dish drying mat would make me this happy – but the Sonoma Wool Dish Drying Mat with Linen Sleeve has me grinning from ear to ear every day. Who wants a nasty plastic dish rack junking up a beautiful kitchen? Not me. Sonoma’s Wool Dish Drying Mat is the perfect alternative.

I have a dishwasher, but I also have quite a few items that I always hand wash. I’m not anti-dishwasher…the hot water and the heat it generates during the dry cycle is amazing for killing bacteria. However, I have glasses that would fade due to the heat of a dishwasher, and I always hand wash my pots and pans because they last so much longer that way. Stainless steel corrodes due to the excessive humidity in dishwashers. More and more I notice that when I purchase really good dishware, while it’s ‘dishwasher safe’ they still recommend hand washing.

Wilton Texturra Performance Non-Stick Bakeware Set

I recently bought the Wilton Texturra Performance Non-Stick Bakeware Set, and the instructions said hand wash before first use…and continued hand washing is preferred. So, I hand wash lots of things, but I always improvised when it came to my dish drying mat (usually just using a hand towel). Then I tried the Sonoma Wool Dish Drying Mat and my life got infinitely better!

The Sonoma Wool Dish Drying Mat with Linen Sleeve ($39.95) is called the ”Best Eco-friendly Dish Drying Mat for your Home’. I never would have thought of wool as a great option for dealing with wet dishes, but thank goodness someone did.

100% natural – no dyes
Absorbs up to 30% of its own weight in moisture
Naturally resists mold and mildew
100% wool and linen
Measures 16″ x 20″ x 3/8”

This dish drying mat is attractive and incredibly effective. The wool mat comes with a linen sleeve as a cover. You can purchase an extra linen sleeve for $14.99 if you want. Wool and linen have ‘super’ fibers that naturally resist mold and are incredibly absorbant. So much better than plastic! After using the mat it has to completely dry in between uses, and it does so on it’s own. I keep it on my wood countertop and it dries beautifully. There have been a few times that my mat got extremely wet, so I hung it over the faucet to dry, but I was probably being a little OCD about it.

The Sonoma Wool Dish Drying Mat with Linen Sleeve is so absorbent it’s unreal. It wicks water away from dishes and pans so they dry quickly. It doesn’t get any sort of musty smell, and it always looks beautiful. I’m no longer searching for something to throw on the counter for my hand washed dishes, and the Drying Mat does such a great job and looks so nice I feel happy every time I look at it. I really think this is BEST housewarming/bridal shower/any occassion gift. I just love it.

That drying mat sounds amazing — I always have dishes that overflow my drying rack and need three types of mattes that’ll not absorb the water and become a soaking wet mess ??

I love this idea of the wool mat, it’s great that it’s eco friendly and it doesn’t mildew
