I couldn’t let National Lipstick Day go by without a review of amazing lipsticks!! Kryolan Cosmetics has a new collection of matte lippies called Lipstick Matt and they sent me five shades to test just in time for this day of homage to the lipstick.
I typically don’t reach for matte lipsticks because with my skinny lips, a super flat finish is not flattering. I also have to have some slip It drives me crazy when my lips feel dry. Kryolan’s Lipstick Matt ($20) intrigued me because while it begins with a small amount of shine, it dries down into a velvety matte that doesn’t feel dry.
These babies have tons and tons of pigment, yet they aren’t chalky or difficult to apply. The colors are gorgeous – so vibrant!
Remember, the key to wearing matte lipsticks is lip prep. Because mattes have a flat finish, any flakes or cracks will be exacerbated. There are lots of great lip scrubs out there or you can always use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub lips. Do this at night then apply tons of lip balm. Every morning your lips will automatically be matte lipstick ready.
Athena is a pinky-brown nude. It’s a little too light for me, but I would bet money that J Lo has this in her lipstick collection. The swatch picture shows what it looks like immediately upon application. It dries down to a flat matte finish, which is shown in the group swatch pic at the bottom of the review.
Luna is a light coral, mostly peach with a hint of pink. I love this shade. It just screams summer to me and while it is light it has enough brightness to show up on me.
While I love Luna, my most favorite is Maia. This is a beautiful medium pink matte that I know I am going to reach for again and again.
Eos is a very pretty warm orange shade. It isn’t a color I would typically go for, but I can definitely see myself wearing it in the fall. This is a terrific shade for those with darker skin tones.
Hera is a deep wine shade. This is the only one that took some work for an even finish…initially it applies a little spotty if applied swiped straight from the tube. It’s better to either press this shade on or else use a lip brush. But that color….fabulous. I think this is a perfect dark berry shade.
Worth mentioning is the Lipstick Matt packaging. I am totally digging the new dark blue tubes. They have a sleek, classic look, plus a magnetic seal so they click shut and won’t come apart in your purse or pocket.
Kryolan says the Lipstick Matt is smear-proof, but it takes a good while for them to dry down enough to not transfer. That said, I am incredibly happy with the long wear of these lipsticks. After five hours they start to wear off, and I like to liven the color back up with a little gloss. I know, I know…matte lipstick sin!! But I enjoy mixing it up and the colors are gorgeous matte or shiny.
There are 18 shades available and information on where to purchase is at us.kryolan.com. Celebrate National Lipstick Day by picking out a few shades for yourself! – Lisa
