One of the first things I did when I walked into the IMATS last month was watch Dexter Phillip, founder of Dex Cosmetics, give our friend Patty an amazing makeover. I didn’t move from my spot. I was going to be the next makeover if it killed me. I knew it was going to be good because Patty has a real eye for good stuff, and I was so impressed with her transformation under his talented brush wielding skills. The wait was worth it – I loved my makeover. Here is pic right after with Dex himself.
Dex is an absolute doll. He is the founder and CEO of Dex Cosmetics which is based in New York. He’s a makeup artist who created a line that was practical, easy to use, and glamorous all at once. The products all give a natural look that isn’t boring, and they are formulated to be perfect for film and photography. Every product is named after a street, neighborhood, or getaway in New York.
I fell in love with everything Dex chose for my makeover, and I ended up buying the foundation, three eyeshadows, and a palette for the eyeshadows. I wish I had bought more, but it was the very first thing I visited at IMATS and I was trying to be a little conservative. I am usually not like that…and boy do I regret it now!
I adore the Mineral Tinted Hydrator ($38). This is a foundation, sunscreen (SPF20), and anti-oxident moisturizer all in one. It has more coverage than a typical tinted moisturizer, I would say this one is medium coverage that you can either sheer out or build up.
You can see that it isn’t thin and runny like other tinted moisturizers, this has a thicker, creamy consistency.
The foundation color Dex chose for my makeover was Amagansett. I find this to be the perfect foundation for summer because in addition to everything else I listed, it’s also moisture-resistant, so I feel very confident wearing this in the heat. In fact I chose it for a recent trip to Disney with the kids, and it was perfect.
Another stand out in Dex’s line are the eyeshadows. He has beautiful, affordable palettes for them.

I picked three Mineral Eyeshadows ($18) and filled the Mini Portfolio myself, choosing colors Dex used for me that day. I don’t know why I didn’t get the brow shade as well…what was I thinking??? Oh yeah, be conservative. Never again!!!
The colors I chose were Rockefeller Gold Pearlescent, Tompkins Square Brown Matte, and Tribeca Olive Brown Pearlescent.
Here are swatches, from right to left: Tribeca Olive Brown Pearlescent, Tompkins Square Brown Matte, and then Rockefeller Gold Pearlescent. These eyeshadows are just gorgeous. They have fabulous pigment, are super smooth, and they do not fade throughout the day. The colors are truly perfection in person. He used the olive shade on my mobile lid, put a pop of color in the middle with the gold, and shaped my eye and crease with the darker brown. He used a lighter color for my brow area, I am pretty sure it was Bryant Park Bisque Matte. He also used Wall Street Onyx Matte, a matte deep black, for lining.
I absolutely adore everything I purchased, and I am so impressed with all my products I plan to buy a whole lot more. I love how every item has a little card inside with the ingredients on one side, and saying ‘Be fierce’ on the other. I most definitely feel fierce when I wear my Dex Cosmetics, and I’ll bet you will too!! This is a great up and coming line that you really should check out. – Lisa

IMATS is amazing. You can’t believe the amount of lines there or the amount of people. It’s hard to pick from everything available.
