The best new bronzers for spring part one: Beautisol and Le Metier

Spring has sprung, and in Lisa’s world that means ‘Break out the bronzers!!’  I love self tanners and bronzers for lots of reasons.  The main reason is that a deeper color instantly slims you – and in Lisa’s world, a little slimming is a LOT appreciated.  I am far too old to even consider getting a real tan, so I am always on a quest to find the best fake one out there.  Here are some of my favorites for this spring.

Let’s start with the body.  I am totally loving Beautisol’s Summer Glow Beautikit and accessories this year.  Self tanning the body is a bit of an art, and Beautisol has amazing how-to videos on their website.  I watched them all before I even got started, and was so glad that I did.

Beautisol is a great line that has some fabulous skincare items.   It’s also known for its self tanners, because they give a very natural color and they actually smell great.  If you want a truly authentic looking, streak-free, easy to apply summer tan, here are the products to buy.  I highly recommend the Summer Glow Beautikit ($55.00), which includes the Go Slough Yourself Dual Action Scrub pictured above, a 6 oz. Dark Self Tanning Lotion for Body, 2 application gloves, application guide and instructional DVD.

Above is a swatch of the Go Slough Yourself, which gets my vote for BEST NAME FOR AN EXFOLIATING PRODUCT.   It’s a creamy scrub that you can use on dry or wet skin, and it very gently exfoliates problem areas like the knees and elbows so your self tanner goes on evenly without streaks.  It has tiny beads (the scientific name is Diatomaceous Earth) that are genius.  They cleanse and exfoliate without stripping or tearing the skin, making for an extremely pleasant exfoliation experience.  It also has salicylic acid to assist the exfoliation, and it contains the antioxidents Acai Berry and Passionflower.  You don’t need a separate cleanser because this awesome product both cleanses and exfoliates.

After exfoliating, your body is ready for the self tanner.  Beautisol sells these Latex Gloves (a 10 pack for $4.50).  A two pack is included in the Summer Glow Beautikit, but you are going to get more than two applications out of these big bottles so it doesn’t hurt to get more gloves.  These are a must when applying a dark self-tanner to the body, because you absolutely don’t want to end up with tan palms.  The front of the body is easy to reach, and the backs of the arms and legs are no problem, but what about your back??  My hubby isn’t always around to help me out, so I got the totally ingenious Back Applicator ($10.00).

The Back Applicator isn’t in the Summer Glow Beautikit, you buy it separately, and it’s awesome.  Here it is, you can see how it folds up in the middle for easy storage.  You just squirt about one pump of the self-tanner onto the sponge applicator, and it makes covering all your difficult to reach areas super easy.

Here it is up close.  It also comes with two extra application pads, so once your sponge wears out it’s easily replaced.  I even use this with regular moisturizer when my back feels dry and itchy.

The Summer Glow Dark Tan Body Self-Tanning Lotion is superb.  It has a color guide so you know exactly where you put it, and it’s easy to make sure you have a streak-free application.  It smells great, and the scent dissipates pretty quickly.  It gives a wonderful, natural, amazingly believable tan.

Here is a swatch for you, you can see how dark the lotion is.  I find it to be very moisturizing as well as bronzing, and the color is very long lasting.  Just one application lasted me over a week.  And of course I love it that both this and Go Slough Yourself are Paraben-free, propylene glycol-free, sodium laurel/laureth sulfate-free, and cruelty-free (PETA certified).  Seriously, if you want a quick, deep, realistic looking tan, these products are the answers to your prayers.  Beautisol has great brochures, application guides, and DVDs to help you make sure you self-tan right the first time.  You can find Beautisol in some retail locations, online here, and at Dermstore and HSN.

So that takes care of the body, what about the face?  I recommend you try Le Metier de Beaute’s Bella Bronzer ($85).  Yup, it’s pricey, but it is a fabulous liquid bronzer and my bottle has lasted a long time even with frequent use.

It’s difficult to use too much of this product.  It blends in beautifully, and even though it has some shimmer to it, it looks very natural and gives the best sun-kissed glow.

Just look at the swatch below – how gorgeous is that???  I buff this in with a kabuki brush for a terrific glow when I either have forgotten to faux tan or else just want to ramp it up a notch.

I know, I know, it’s so expensive…but I still love it.  The color is perfect, not too dark and not too light.  It’s perfect for the face, and works great on your body as well, although you don’t want it put too close to areas that rub up against clothing.

And here I am, all bronzed up and ready for warmer weather!  I may not be a bathing beauty like I was in my teens and twenties, but that isn’t going to stop me from looking like one (although I am not wearing a string bikini anymore, lol!!)  – Lisa

  2. Lisa, you look fabulous! I love the LMdB products, but admit I’m intimidated by bronzers, must give this one a try.

  3. You look gorgeous, Lisa! Absolutely glowing! Do you use the Le Metier liquid bronzer over your foundation or on bare skin? Also, I really NEED that back applicator in my life! Great review, thx! 🙂

  4. You look great Lisa!!

  5. Daddygirl says:

I can see why you love your bronzers. You look great and both brands sound terrific.

  6. I am too busy painting my nails to fuss with bronzer, so I just embrace the pale and pink look. 🙂

  7. Wow, you look beautiful! It is hard to believe that is a “faux” tan!!! Im a huge self tan junkie and a I have to say, I am ordering both tonight! And yes, the liquid is expensive, but considering how much I would spend anyway trying out a bunch of new ones, hopefully I will save $ in the end! 🙂

  8. Hi Cheya! The Bella Bronzer was used over tinted moisturizer, which is what I normally use when I have faux tanned. And you are going to love that back applicator!

  9. I looked at the website and found that a spa pretty close to me carries Beautisol! I am so excited!!!! I had no idea. I hope they have the whole line there.
