One of the easiest ways to apply foundation is with the new cushion compacts. Hydroxatone, known for their skin care, has taken that knowledge and combined it with their BB Cream to bring us a buildable BB Cream with Broad Spectrum SPF Sunscreen.
Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact contains some key ingredients that make this stand out from the cushion crowd.
Beauty Info Zone was sent two of the three available shades to test and share our findings with you. Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting Air Cushion Compact is available online at ULTA, as well as Beauty.com and Kohls.com for $49 which includes the compact and a sealed refill.
o Light for fair skin with neutral undertones
o Medium for light beige skin tones
o Tan for golden skin tones
MARCIA WEARS LIGHT
I’ve been a fan of BB Creams since I first learned about them. I don’t like heavy coverage on my aging skin. I’m looking for light to medium coverage at best. Hydroxatone’s Air Cushion Compact fits my needs perfectly for this. It’s easy to use, has great sunscreen with broad spectrum SPF40, and can be built up.
Normally a foundation that only comes in 3 shades isn’t going to be light enough for my pale skin but surprisingly Hydroxatone is. The Light is ultra light. I couldn’t get it to show up in my swatch for you, that’s how light it is.
For every day I pat this on with the included applicator lightly and go about my business knowing I’ve evened out my skin. When I’m going to be in closer contact with people I’ll apply concealer under my eyes and nose prior to application. The soft cushiony applicator it comes with doesn’t remove my concealer when using it to apply the BB Cream. I like to build it up to slightly less than a medium coverage and I’m good to go.
The cherry on top of the pie for Hydroxatone’s Air Cushion Compact is that there’s basically no fragrance for this. At first I notice a little bit of citrus and even that dissipates quickly for this scent sensitive blogger.
LISA WEARS MEDIUM
Marcia has beautiful porcelain skin, but mine is freckled with uneven patches so I typically like more coverage than she does. I didn’t think the Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting AirCushion Compact would give enough coverage for my preferences, but it really is buildable and does semi-full coverage as well as it does sheer.
The medium shade looks waaay darker on the sponge that it does on the skin. It’s actually a pretty versatile medium shade that will work for light to medium skin tones. I have to admit I wasn’t sold on sponge compact foundations at first, but now I love them – especially for traveling. You can see that my compact actually leaked a little but the sponge and the compact kept it from getting outside of the package.
I use my Doll10 Rotating Foundation Brush on top of the sponge and it picks up the perfect amount of foundation. I just do an extra pass over uneven areas for more coverage. I find that in general, sponge foundation compacts don’t last as long as liquid foundation, so I was happy that a refill is included in the box.
You can still see my freckles but the uneven tone is gone. I also find that this foundation wears extremely well. Usually by the end of the day my foundation is mostly gone, but this one is mostly there.
With all the pluses – buildable coverage, skin friendly ingredients, wearable shades, and a travel friendly packaging – we think the Hydroxatone Skin Perfecting AirCushion Compact is a winner. It’s definitely a sponge-worthy foundation!
